He didn't want to die, and especially not like this.

There were a lot of things, that he hadn't done yet, he'd only recently really sated being considered a real adult. He hadn't felt like he had accomplished enough just yet, he had yet to really make his fortune.. He wanted to spend more time with his lover.. He wanted to even start a family with him..
He had wanted to go out with a bang, when his time came. He wanted to die in the heat of battle, a sword in his hand and feared by the surface creatures.
If he had lived thought that to his old age, what he had wanted, at the very least, was to die in his home with loved ones near-by to remember him. He wanted to have achieved that if that was going to be the way he had to go.

But this was not the case. The reality of his situation was that he was alone, he was trapped without protection from the sun, he could tell that the middle of the surface-night had passed.. And he was terrified. He knew that the pain the sun promised was going to be like nothing he had experienced before, he could not get the disturbing memory from his mind of a fool who had been thrown out of the protective blanket of darkness and into the daylight. Those screams were going to be a testament as to just how much his eyes and his body were going to hurt and burn when he was met by the alien force of nature. Even if he survived it, he would have gone mad from it, no doubt. He hoped.. That if it came to that, he would be put out of his miserable existence..

He opened his eyes again, forcing himself out of his macabre thoughts to look with forlorn desperation at his pack, several feet out of his reach. It hadn't stopped him trying to reach it, the claw marks in the dirt testament to that as he had tried vainly to drag himself closer to the pack, to at least get the treated blankets that were inside. If he was found, he'd be cowering, but he would have been relatively safe from the elements, if he'd have his goggles.. he would be better still.. He would hurt, but it would not be nearly as bad as his current prospects.. Skin could heal but eyes.. They were far too sensitive and would take far too much damage to recover from. With a shaky sigh he closed his eyes and flopped back down, facing the sky. Even the stars and the moon were uncomfortably bright on the surface.

He wished.. He had been blessed with quicker reflexes. There was the chance that he would not have found himself in his current situation if he had been. It had started with a simple night-strike. The mission was mundane, routine almost, they had achieved their objectives and had been heading home on their own accord, each drow wishing to take their share of the spoils of the raid stayed that little bit longer. He was one of those. He always had been. He didn't want to live out of the barracks forever. He had to eat, to buy new equipment, and one always needed objects of value to get those essentials.
He had been the last to leave, he had taken the least loot but he had taken his time picking and had chosen few valuable things over many with less value, it made sense. He remembered, he had re-mounted his lizard and he had been on his way home to the tunnels. The lizard had stopped, Teggs would not have had stopped, he remembered urging it forwards past a crumbling building near the edge of the woods they had passed through, he remembered something rushing from the remains of the building and the lizard shying away violently, throwing him from its back and into the oncoming fury of falling masonry.

He had woken in pain, his legs and an arm trapped. He had dug one of his arms free, initially, but the rest of the earth had been too solid to free the rest of himself. He had tried, he had dug until his hand were rubbed raw, his fingers threatening to bleed which was when he had lain back and realised for the first time, how exposed he was. He'd tried calling for a while before he had spooked himself out of it, scared of attracting a hungry beast of a vengeful surface creature. He'd bawled and he'd struggled but when it came down to it, no matter how regretful he was of his situation, he could no longer do anything to help himself. And he knew he was going to die in this pitiful situation.

If he could not change his fate but had one wish, he would have at least have wanted to have someone with him. He did not want to die alone.

Time had been passing in a bizarre flurry for Zakn. Since he had somehow managed, (by way of a number of goofy presents and a case of the talkies that wouldn’t control itself) to cement his relationship with Kalan more firmly, he’d just been so happy… it wasn’t that he’d been unhappy before, oh no! He had enjoyed his life regardless; the thrill of the rushes to the surface, the parties and celebrations of those who survived afterwards, the kind remembrance of friends who didn’t… it was all so much a part of him that he really hadn’t noticed there was something missing. Until the day he met Kalan that was… from that moment on he knew what was missing from his life, and his heart had not mislead him, now that he had Kalan things were undeniably pretty perfect for him.

He’d not realised quite how much he did love the smaller male until the words had all come tumbling out, then for a moment he had dreaded that he’d lost him, but well… things had turned out rather better than that, and the pair of them had been closer than ever for a while now, which was utterly lovely!

Today however, something felt a little off. He’d been waiting for Kalan to meet him for close to three hours now… it wasn’t that unusual for runs to the surface to be longer than predicted, but this was beginning to push it… and when he finally saw a couple of Drow he recognised as actually being a part of his lovers party… well, that was when he really started to worry once again. It was certainly a bad sign for there to be people had been on the run with Kalan… and no Kalan…

He waited only a few moments before he got to his feet and went to talk to the Drow he’d recognised. It didn’t take him long to find out where the commander of their run was currently based and with that knowledge he set of to find him.

What he found out didn’t comfort him however… in fact, it had quite the opposite effect. About a half our before Zakn himself had shown up, the lizard that had been carrying Kalan had trotted its way back down into the Underdark… without its rider.

Now this was bizarre in itself. The warriors were meant to look out for one another at least to some degree! Kalan wasn’t supposed to get lost like this… no! It was Zakn that had the worse line of work after all and if he came back alive then damn it Kalan had to as well! There was no bloody way the lovely surface warrior was going to be anything other than alive and well… but with him missing for a good three hours by this point Zakn was getting to the point where he wasn’t going to take any chances if he could help it. It had to be passing midnight by this point… in fact… probably an hour or two past in truth… he needed to do something.

It took a little while of course, for the Streeakh to ready himself to actually head up to the surface. He was, after some carful talking, able to procure a vague route that the party should have taken, and a couple of other possible ones… it was a risk and a half simply heading up to the surface and riding around for a while, but honestly… what other choice did he have? If something bad had happened to Kalan, which the uneasy feeling inside was telling him was probably the case, then he had to at least try to find his lover… the thought of losing Kalan was like a knife to the chest… he’d be lost without him… it would make everything, even fighting far harder and… well… in his line of work that could be lethal.

One he was ready to move he wasted no further time in driving his mount, a lizard he used fairly often and knew could hold the pair of them with little difficulty up onto the surface. He had his own goggles down over his eyes so that the moon and star light would not hamper his vision. His own dark hair was a blessing a night. He was able to vanish like a shadow, and with his dark lizard as well he hoped he’d run into no trouble… he needed to follow the routes that the commander had marked on the map and he was really going to have to hurry if he wanted to make sure he covered them all… leaving of course time to rush around aimlessly if they all proved useless…

It was everything he could do at the moment to hold the worry and unease inside… panicking would not help him find Kalan, so he needed to keep that emotion at bay…

It was cold and it only seemed to be getting colder. He'd been shivering more and more as the stars had started to stop shining quite as brightly, an indication that it wouldn't be too too long for the sun to start rising. A few more hours in the least, he hoped however that it would take longer and that he was wrong.
He didn't want to die, he knew he was hoping to delay the inevitable, but what hope was there in trying to stop nature?

He shivered a little more violently and curled his now bloodied fingers against his palm where he had tucked his hands under his arm to try and fight off the slight frost that came with morning. The young male had tried again to dig his legs out from under the masonry, a desperate attempt though his fingers had given out on his this time. The earth was just as unyielding as it had been earlier and he'd damaged himself further in his own hysteria to try and break free.

There were still tears in his eyes, he only noticed them now, in fairness, as they served to chill his cheeks and temple further. He couldn't seem to stop them now, nor did he care to save face anymore as he simply could not believe that he was going to be found.

He hoped that he would be found, that his absence would be noticed and that he would be searched for. He hoped but he did not expect to see a search party happening into his line of sight. He knew, deep down that at least one person would have noticed his absence. His lover, Zakn'fryn. He recalled, smiling and joking with him before he had left on the raid, they were going to meet when he had returned and find something good to eat, something warm, then maybe later keeping each other warm. His lips quirked into a bit of a smile at that thought as he shuddered with another bout of shivers.

He loved that daft drow more than anything he had ever known, and he hoped that he meant as much to him in return. Deep down he knew, they shared something very special, he could see in the way Zakn looked at him, his lingering touches that he cared and that he cared a great deal.. Maybe Zakn cared more for him, which was why he wondered at the slight differences in the way that he himself looked at his lover, Zakn. He made a soft noise of protest when he came to the conclusion that the difference probably came from their preferences in the relationship. He would never admit it but he did take on the more feminine role..

He loved that drow, he really did. He had chased away his past fears and pains, but he had wanted to experience so much more with him already. He had a feeling that it was because he was close to meeting his end that he had started thinking more and more about children. Would Lolth have blessed them and allowed them to have them? Who would they have looked more like, himself of their dark haired father? The endless possibilities of names, what professions they would follow, would they love them? Would they be good parents?

His eyes stung with fresh tears as his mind presented him with even fresher regrets.

He groaned another protest of pain, his eyes were starting to ache more and more as the dawn rolled in. It was still dark to the surface creatures but he could feel the increase in light, hampering his visibility all the more. If this was pre-dawn then he was dreading what the rest of this.. Morning, was it? The rest of this morning was going to hold for him. It was futile but he shut his eyes regardless, trying to block out how cold he was feeling. He was trembling like a leaf, a mixture of the cold and the fear, he supposed.

“KALAN! KALAN WHERE ARE YOU?” He’d dispensed with subtlety a fair while ago now… At first he had figured he should be careful, the creatures of the surface world were dangerous in their own way, even if with his goggles on he could at least see them… that didn’t make it any better really, he didn’t want them stalking him only for him to bring them to Kalan and end up possibly making things worse…

He had followed the routes to the best of his ability, the speedy lizard he had as a steed making fairly short work of the distance, it was a good creature, though he’d not used it before… He had, however, found no sign of Kalan at all, which had distressed him. As time had worn on he had become increasingly more frantic. If the sun rose he knew that there was little chance his lover would survive… the sun would be agony and the cries would attract someone or something to Kalan, and they would not be friendly… there was no way that a Drow could refrain from screaming when faced with the scorching rays of the sun.

Every time he thought he saw something his heart had skipped a beat, and every time he was crushed to realise it was not what he had thought… that noise he had heard had been a creature shifting through the undergrowth, the shape that looked like it might be a drow was nothing more than a trick of his hopeful eyes! Goddess! How could she be this cruel to him? Did they not do her honour by crushing the wretches of the surface! Did they not put their lives on the line? He worked for a squad of drow doomed to death! Was that not enough for her? Oh cruel Lloth! How could she do this? How could she take Kalan from him?

“KALAN, FOR THE LOVE OF THE GODDESS ANSWER ME, PLEASE!” He had become frantic at that point, his need to stay hidden had gone as he felt around him the pre dawn lightening of the sky… he was running out of time! He had to find Kalan… he had, a while back found what looked like lizard tracks… but he couldn’t be sure. For a time he had been following them as best he could, but his nerves were setting him on edge, and his need to call out now would frequently tear his eyes and attention away from the tracks as well. He wished he was still as composed a she had been to begin with, so calm and able to think things through, but he was like that no longer… his hands trembled slightly on the reigns as he held them… it would have taken a far colder hard that Zakn’fryn’s to stay steady in the fact of losing a lover that meant as much to them as Kalan did to Zakn… he loved that drow far more than he could ever express…

Kalan was… well… Kalan was his everything…

“I SWEAR BY THE GODDESS KALAN, IF YOU DON’T ANSWER ME THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY!” His voice was his only hope now… he had always been loud, maybe… if he was lucky… his lover would still be conscious somewhere and would hear him…

It was a slim chance, but it was looking to be the only one he had just now…

Judging by the pain, dawn was starting to roll in ever quicker, and he found that even with his arms up across his face he could not stop the whimpers of pain that emanated from him. His eyes were hurting enough as it was and he could not bare to try and think how much worse it was going to be. His skin was.. It felt odd to say the least, and he could not feel his bloodied fingers anymore. He was too cold and had stopped shivering a while ago now. He was going to look a state if he was found, he mused, wondering if it would worry the surface creatures that would find his body to see the scratches, the bloody claw-marks in the earth, or if they would pity him. Perhaps they would simply be pleased to find him dead. That would be more likely.. With his twisted expression from the..

He paused his macabre imagery, pressing his hands all the more firmly against his eyelids for a moment.. He had sworn he had heard something. It was distant, it could have been anything. A beast or a surface dweller.
It came again, still distant, but a steady sort of call.. Every so often he would hear it again, sometimes a little closer, sometimes a little further away, or so it felt, until it seemed to steadily draw nearer..
His heart skipped a beat, and he allowed himself the wild hope that he was being searched for, and it was his lover who had braved the dawn to try and find him! He was sure it was his voice!
"Z-Za-Zakn!" He called, weakly at first, but then again, a little louder as he mustered up what energy the cold and his struggling hadn't leeched.
"ZAKN!" he threw himself up into something of a sitting poisition, pulling his hands away from his face for a moment to hold onto the crumbly masonry that had trapped him, only to find out exactly how much brighter the world had become as he had lain there trying to make himself believe that he was going to die quickly.

He let out an agonised howl as he fell back to cover his face again, the trembling back in full force as he continued to repeat his lovers name again and again as loud as he could. Even if he attracted something else with his hallucination of a rescuer, as least they would probably put him out of his misery before his suffering increased.

There! He heard it that time! For a couple of minutes he was sure he could head a voice, but he’d not been able to hear it clearly enough to work out what the voice was saying, where it was actually coming from an if it actually was a voice at all… some of these surface creatures made the most troubling vocalisations. Regardless though, as soon as he’d heard it his heart had leapt in his chest, and he’d known he absolutely had to follow it… it had to be Kalan, Lloth wouldn’t torment him, he was faithful to her, he’d give his life for her in a moment despite the happiness he now had, she wouldn’t beat down one so faithful to her… Zakn had faith in his Goddess like few other male drow could claim to have.

He’d give anything for her… the only person who even came close to equalling his affection for her was Kalan, and she had to know that Kalan was no threat… it was his mortal emotions that excited for Kalan, his heart… Lloth… she had to know she would always have his blackened soul!

When he finally heart his name called out he was ready to react in moments, he knew where to go, he could find him! He wasn’t that far away! Maybe a couple of hundred metres by the sounds of it! He wheeled the lizard around and sent it scurrying in the direction he was certain the voice had come from, but… where was he..? He should be able to see something by now! His eyes were protected and his vision was good! So where was Kalan..?

Where…?

Where was he..?

He had to be here!

Wait!

There off to the side of the track he had had the lizard running down he saw a fall of earthworks and masonry. At first its had seemed as insignificant as each of the other points of scenery that he had seen, but then just highlighted against the dark of stone and mud he had seen a figure, a figure with white hair, muddied now it was true, but a figure that he recognised. In a moment he had been off of the creatures back, barking a command at it to stay put which he trusted that it would obey, as he’d sent himself running towards the fallen structure, his greater height and longer strides a thing to be thankful for.

When he finally scrambled close enough to his lover to be in his line of sight as well, were he able to see him Zakn sword. “Kalan, by the goddess where are you goggles?!” He demanded, his voice clearly tinged with relief worry and a hint of panic all at once. The cloak he worn around his own shoulders to protect from the elements he pulled off in a moment to covers his lovers face with, after leaning down very briefly to kiss his forehead. “Its okay love. I’ll have you free soon..” how the hell was he going to manage that… still.. at least he could make sure Kalan was protected while he worked.

Kalan shuddered, sobbing his relief when he at last heard his lover drawing closer, running to him. He reached up, pinching his eyes closed to blindly grope at the air, trying to find Zakn, revealing a tear-streaked face. He was so so cold, but his savior was here at last! If he hadn't been so tired, cold and pain addled he'd have felt a fool for the behavior her was presenting, sobbing nearly hysterically into the blessedly dark cloak that now shielded him from the oncoming daylight.

He shivered and trembled, curling a little into the small amount of warmth the cloak provided, absorbing the residual body-heat that Zakn had left there. He was talking, quite incoherently between his tired sobs, words of love and fear, and he hoped, vaguely, that he wasn't scaring Zakn even more. He reached a hand out to try and find his lover again.

"A-A-Are.. Y-you there? Are.. Y-you real?" He managed to get out.. As for the other question, he tried to gesture at his pack, and in the general direction of where the cracked goggles had tumbled as well.
"COld.. I-I-'m.. Cold.. It hurts.." He groaned, whimpering as he curled a little more.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 01, 2009 1:20 pm

“I’m here.” Came Zakn’s reply, “try to stay calm Kalan, I’ll be over to you in a moment…” he was moving around trying to gather Kalans things closer to him.. the goggles were broken, it was true, but they’d still provide better protection than anything else they had to hand… “Here…” he moved over to his lover and caught his hand, being careful of the fingers that he could see were rather badly hurt. “They’re a little broken love, but at least hold them over your eyes… I’m going to work at getting you out, I know its cold, but just hold on..” he kissed the back of Kalans hand again and pressed the goggles into it. He’d give him his own, but he needed to be able to see to actually get Kalan out of the mess he was currently in.

It was killing him how unhappy Kalan sounded, he’d have done anything right then to just be able to lean down and wrap his arms around his lover and cuddle him close to him. He wanted to reassure him, kiss him and juts generally make everything better… but to do that he needed his hands, he had to get Kalan out, so this was one of those moments where he knew he had to be really cruel to be kind. He just wanted to get Kalan back down to the Underdark and to a healer as quickly as was physically possible…

“There’s a lot of rubble here Kalan…” he stated quietly, “So just hold on okay, be patient I’m gonna start moving it, I’m not gonna be far away from you though…” Helping Kalan had never been so hard… he was well pleased for his thick hide gloves which made it easier to get a firm grip on the blocks of masonry that were holding his lover in place so painfully. He dreaded the amount of damage this might have done his lover…

He spent a good while shifting the bigger blocks from the top and sides to make it possible for him to see what sort of challenge faced him… this wasn’t going to be easy… the blocks were quite heavy.

The small drows breathing came unevenly, in odd gasps sounding like he was on he verge of hyperventilating. He was fighting it, he just wanted to get out of his current situation, and the sudden rush of emotions, the sobbing when he had realised his lover had come to find him had put him into a tired emotional overload.

He flexed his fingers as he felt a comforting warm press against the back of his hand, it felt good, but it did not stay for nearly as long as he would have liked, protesting weakly when it moved away, though he tried to curl his numb, bleeding fingers around the goggles. He mostly succeeded, and he drew them under the cloak as well, obeying his lovers instructions as best he could. He was too tired and too cold to fight him, and he pulled the goggles on over his eyes and the back of his head, though he did not yet open his eyes, regardless, they were far too painful to risk.

He regretted every sound of discomfort he made as his lover went to work on shifting the lumps of rubble to try and free him. He knew it was making the job all the harder for Zakn, and with every noise he instantly stuttered out another apology.
The more the masonry was moved aside, the more acutely he started to feel that his legs had not fared well while he had been trapped.
"NNnhh.. C-Can't.. F-feel them well.." He groaned, flinching at the grinding sensation as another lump was lifted then whimpered again, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.." He pulled at the cloak, tucking it around himself a little more.
He could feel that one of his legs had broken, the other was still uncomfortably numb. His hip.. Just felt very out of whack, but he had also been twisting and struggling around rather violently, which had knew had not helped. Since he had stopped, the adrenaline slowly starting to wear out of his system, he had found left arm hurting more an more, and was hoping that he could put it down to a strained muscle.
"Please.." He tried his utmost to keep the whine from his voice, "Please hurry."

"I am trying Kalan, by Lloth I'm trying. But if I move the wrong block I'm worried they'll slip and hurt you more...please stay calm, I'm right here by you. I won't leave you." the tall drow's eyes, not that they could be seen were hardened by concentration, despite the over all look of concern on his face. He really hoped he didn't harm his lover... if he did anything to make Kalan's suffering worse he'd be mortified. There were not too many more of the lumps of masonry to move however, and soon Zakn was able to devote the majority of his attention to furiously digging his way through the earth that had also formed part of the slide. It was one of the only things that was keeping him from Kalan. "You need to stop saying sorry, beautiful. It doesn't sound good from your lips, okay? Just tell me you love me instead... I like that better. Because I know I love you." He carried on working, the feeling of the dawn glowing around them was unsettling, but he knew he could do this now...

When he'd pushed as much of the dirt and rubble away as he could, the black haired drow moved back over to his lover. "Kalan... I know this will hurt you... and I'll never forgive myself for that, but I'm gonna have to life you up now... I don't think you'll be able to stand on your own, and I'm sure that trying that will hurt worse... don't feel bad if your instant reaction is to hit me or bite me or anything... its fine... okay..." he crouched down to Kalan. He was a mess, there was no denying it. One of his arms at least was damaged. His leg was clearly at the wrong angle, and there was a shift to his hips that Zakn' didn't like the look of. All in all... well... Kalan was in a bad way, and it was vaguely unsettling. He knew he had to help him though...

With as much care as he could manage, a surprising amount from such a large Drow, Zakn' leant himself down, and ever so carefully tucked his arm under the exposed knee's of his lover. With his other hand he very slowly adjusted Kalan's arms so that they wouldn't be crushed against him, knowing that in this case, a little pain now would save a lot later. "I'm so sorry love... I'm a fool, I should have brought something with me to kill the pain.. I didn't think..." he wished he'd thought this through better... but if he'd waited, maybe he wouldn't have found Kalan in time...? He had to make the best of what he had... at least he'd found Kalan... better to have him here and hurting than have the herbs that would help and Kalan dead...

Finally he eased his arm under Kalans back, just below his shoulders and lifted his lover up into his arms, holding him as close as he could, and as carefully as he could to go with it. "Okay love... I've got you..." He was keeping the cloak over Kalan... he didn't want to risk his lover facing any more exposure to the rising sun. He could cope with that... Kalan couldn't just now.

Kalan couldn't help the next whimper of an apology as Zakn asked him to stop apologising to him. He just couldn't help himself in his delirious sort of state. Nor could he help the pained little whimpers as his legs were uncovered all the more. They didn't feel right and were starting to hurt ll the more.

"L-Lift me..?" He stuttered, a slightly panicked tone creeping into his voice as it slowly dawned on him that there was even more intense pain to come, "Nnnh!" He threw his good arm out as he felt a movement by his side, wanting to have some contact with his lover before he started to be shifted around. He was so cold. He just wanted to curl up with him and rest, "Z-Zakn.. I.. I couldn't.. Don't want to hurt you too." He mumbled out with a shiver, his voice catching for a moment.

"N'you're not a fool!" He winced as he was carefully shifted, "Didn't know.. I'd be.. In such a.." The pain wasn't that bad actually.. "Sorry STATE!" He howled as he was properly lifted, his legs pulling free from the dirt, the broken bones grinding against each other and pulling in strange ways as he tried hard not to tense his muscles or move.
It brought a prickle of tears to his eyes, and just for a moment he seemed to forget how to breathe as he was shifted carefully, his knuckles paling under the cloak as he gripped at Zakns top and chest with surprising force.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 04, 2009 12:47 pm

He felt horrendous. He'd never wanted to hear Kalan make anything close to the level of pained noises he was making now, let alone at his hands. He was meant to be there to make it better, not to make it worse... if only he'd thought to bring something or someone with him... then again, rash behaviour... hurried thought processes...they were far more his cup of tea, and were also the reason his brother, Nath was in charge and he wasn't...Nath actually tended to think things through.

"I didn't even know if I'd find you..." he mumbled quietly as he let Kalan settle in his arms. He knew it was going to be a hideous journey for his lover, he knew that there was going to be far less comfort to be found his his arms just now, but there was no other way of making sure Kalan was gotten home safely. With a leg he hooked up the other Drows pack, pulling it along with him so that when he neared the lizard he'd brought up here, the creature itself becoming uncomfortable at the growing light. He was able to hook it up with a leg, and drape it over one of the pack hooks on the side of his mounts saddle.

After that it was just a matter of settling himself on the creature, which was as hassle free as he could make it. He was used to the beasts, so it was more a matter of keeping Kalan steady in his arms. He was able to settle him a little on his lap so that Kalan's legs were at least partially supported by his own. He knew it would have helped to fix them in place, but he just couldn't face the idea of doing any worse damage to his lover, which he feared his own attempts at healing might result in. "I love you." he stated. "You're safe now... you will be fine..." with that they were able to move off, the creature being kept in check by the larger drow... he'd make sure it moved as smoothly as possible... and his first stop down in the Underdark would be to get Kalan to a healer...

The small male tried to steady his breathing once he had forced the air back out of his lungs and remembered to breathe back in. The pain was.. Horrible. He'd suffered breaks before but the situation in which he had received these was simply making things all the worse for him.

"I'm.. I'm glad you came.." He whimpered out, his grip only tightening all the more as he settled a little more heavily against the other male with a soft hiss as his hip sort of popped. "I thought.. That.. That.." His breath caught again and he turned to press his face against the warmth of Zakns chest.
"Thank you.." He virtually whispered against his lover, shifting a hand away from the fabric over Zakns chest to shift the broken goggles up a little to gingerly wipe at his cheeks.

He was thankful that his lover was taking such care guiding the lizard. Though it's gait was far from being smooth it was the best that could be done and he tried biting back whimpers of pain. It wouldn't do to come off as such a weak individual. He was ashamed enough already.

"Did you-" A hiss, "Did you remember my pack?" He startled a little at that thought. It would be.. horrible if after all that he had gone through his things and treasures were left behind.

Zakn gave the reigns a steadying tug "I have your pack." he stated with a small smile. "I'm not certain everything is still in it, I didn't check, but if anything is missing I'll ride back out tomorrow and look for anything that actually went missing.." he fell quiet again for a moment, still feeling quite distressed that Kalan was hurting as badly as he was... "We can take care of that when we've finally gotten you looked at though okay? Think about the really important things okay... you know... you being okay, alive... well..." he smiled slightly to himself again, and as he spoke it showed in his voice. "I love you Kalan.." he fell quiet after that. It was hard to speak when he was so worried... he was trying desperately to be calm, to be strong, but it was difficult to keep his voice from shaking... he loved Kalan so much, and he was just so worried there was going to be an injury of some kind that he'd managed to miss... he'd over looked or something...

The rest of the trip was easy. he was able to take them on a relatively direct route back to the opening out of the Underdark.. and once that had been reached it was relatively easy to get back to the camp and have a healer notified and assistance sent for. Zakn, luckily, had the money to pay for the best that they could find at short notice... and Kalan was going to get the best after all. There were no two ways about that...

"Nnnhh.. Thank you.. Love.." He forced out, settling himself fully against the taller male, uncaring now of his aches. "M'trying.. Thinking about.. M'safe.." He was starting to feel a little groggy despite the haze of pain, the gentle warmth that was so slowly seeping back into his body from the cloak and from his lover felt very very good.

"I love you too.." He mumbled with a bit of a frown, pressing his ear against Zakns chest, "Don't need o worry about the pack much.. It.. It shouldn't have popped.. Open.. Wasn't open when.." A low hiss again, "When I was.. Reachin' for it earlier.." A little grunt of discomfort again as the lizard took an awkward step. His tired state was quickly trying to overtake his other senses.
"M'so tired.." He groaned gently as he drifted off slowly. It wasn't going to be solid sleep, but at least the short bursts if rest would be something. He was safe and he was warming up, and the periods of time he was sleeping, were blissful release from the pain.

It was some time until the healer left Kalan's rooms at the temporary base camp for his raiding party. A few good solid hours had passed and she had emerged looking.. Somewhat tired.
She gave a nod to the agitated, dark haired drow that she had recalled had summoned her at such short notice. He had offered her a fair price, to say the least which she was not going to turn her nose up at.. SHe had thought to question where he had come across the sort of coin to cover her fees.. But he had looked so desperate.. And with the colourings he had and the way he had slipped the streekah commanders name in.. Well.. No more questions would be asked.

SHe was just not used to working in such conditions. She was dedicated to healing the higher powers withing the family that took charge of these raiders.. But again, the gold.. It was certainly not something to be sniffed at.

"They are both doing well." She announced calmly to the fast approaching male, "The Goddess appears to favour them."
She took a moment to brush at some imaginary dirt clinging to her sleeve.
"He's sleeping for now, he will likely be very sore for a long while until he heals fully. His eyes took the most damage, unfortunately. Though they are.. Changed for now, he was lucky that he was not exposed for onger, he shall recover fully. His left leg was broken badly, as was his left arm. These I have set and cast upon so they heal with a little more haste. He has a crack on his hip and a possible one on his other leg where it was under pressure for so long. They will hurt but they will heal fairly swiftly. The one on the hip, should not cause you any complications as it should have healed when the time comes."
She paused to hold her hands out, offering Zakn a small selection of vials and pouches.

"For the pain and for healing." She stated, matter of factly, "A large pinch from each of the pouches with food twice a day. A small sprinkle in water for the pain when it is needed.."
She sighed a little, looking somewhat tired, "You may see him now, but, and I assume that I have no need to tell you this, lots of bed-rest and calm."
