It's aggravating because every fight seems like a boss battle. Nothing sticks (status effects) but everything the enemy throws at you sticks like glue. Overall, I find the system confusing (it gives messages that you can't decipher), to difficult, and to hard to unlock to its fullest potential.
I thought I was ahead of the game in EpII but now I just feel like i'm weak again...

Overall, I'd say I like episode 1's battle system quite a bit. And I like some things about episode 2's (like the shared boost gague for one) but I really didn't like how it got rid of tech attacks. On the whole they're pretty standard RPG battle systems, with the exception of the whole boost/AP/tech attack system -- though I will agree that the stat effect thing in episode 2 was really difficult to deal with.

I actually really liked episode I's battle system, but that kind of made me disappointed at the many changes that they made to it in episode II. In Episode I, I was quite fond of the tech attacks (as shojokakumeii said already) so I was disappointed with the fact that they had gotten rid of it, and I guess replaced it with the zone attacks, which I guess wasn't that bad, but I liked the tech attacks and the attack type (ether attack, physical attack, etc) with square/triangle better.
In episode I, I also liked how you could use points to boost your ethers/tech attacks as well.

I had no qualms with either battle system to tell the truth... Well...nothing that hasn't already been said, I guess.I adapt to pretty much anything. =/

I much prefered the battle system of Xenosaga I. When they took my tech attacks away for II, I cried.

I really enjoyed the epsiode battle system, it made each character unique and gave them all unique attacks, in episode 2 all the attacks the characters could learn were the same and so it made the battles kind of boring, but the battle system in epsiode 3 is similiar to episode 1

there are a lot of things that i like and dislike about episode II's battle system- as with most of the other game things {cutouts} but i liked Episode one, reminded me {just the buttons really} of Xenogears, which is the only game where i purposely got into fights.
so yeah, i liked Eppy one, but episode ii just... it took out most, if not all, of the good stuff- but hey- what can you do?

I thought the system for I was a little monotonous and not particularly interesting. II was just an expansion on the I system, but it worked for me much better. I loved the combos and the little loopholes and tricks available.
One thing that I absolutely love (and have noticed that other people are increasingly beginning to hate) is turn-based battle.
The only thing about the battle system that I don't like is the fact that monsters are visible in I, and that in II the encounters always occur in the same place.
Otherwise I liked it. (I'm more into the FF8 type of turn-base system, but this one seems solid, especially in II.)
