Okay, so my school is holding drum major tryouts in a week or so. I'm a sophomore, and not even a section leader, but I think the directors like me. IDK. :/
I don't particularly want to be a drum major. I mean, sure, it seems fun - getting to do the salutes and be the leader of the band, but when it comes down to it, I really like marching. And with next year's show promising to be pretty epic, I sort of want to, you know... be in it.
Normally, I wouldn't even consider trying out for drum major. However, all four of ours are seniors - that leaves four spots open, up for grabs by both juniors and seniors. With that as an added advantage, it would be considerably easier to make it, but there are at least four or five people who would be good competition for me.
Like I said, normally, I wouldn't even bother... but there's this girl trying out, one of the favorites of the band directors, and... ugh. She's awful. Like HELL I'm going to let her run the band, at least not without being in the same position to keep her in check.
I have a feeling I'd make a complete a** out of myself if I went, and I probably wouldn't even make it, since I'm not a section leader -- plus, I really do like marching. But something about that girl taking over as drum major really irks me.
Should I try out or not? I'm torn.
