Why was he doing this? Why...? The whole tradition of giving someone a gift on this one foolish day was... well... foolish. They didn't taste good, for one thing, they smelt really awful, and frankly they had Drow shanking each other all over the place down in the Underdark for the simple pleasure of a lump of man meat. What on earth was the point? Now he was a fully loyalist Drow... and the tradition still seemed like utter rot to him! So WHY then was he heading to his friend... yes... friend, they were still friends... okay so they were friends that cuddled a lot, and sometimes spent the night curled up sleeping together, and Kalan was a friend he missed a lot and... okay sod it, they were friends but he'd fallen head over heels for the smaller male, as unfortunate as that was as they both had rather... involving professions... both risky, both time consuming and both with the added bonus of possible death in the sun!
Either way though, he liked his friend more than he probably should, and had been struggling with that more than ever over the last month and a bit... they'd known one another quite a considerable time now and after having realised that they got on well had started making a point of seeing one another at least once a week, then more than that as Zakn realised that he really missed the other on the days he didn't see him.. so maybe two or three times at the least now a days... and well, today he knew where Kalan was staying having had the presence of mind to bother the crap out of one of his superiors by virtue of his own rank, and had decided to take him a gift... well, two if he was honest... but he'd been unable to pick between them.
Either way, he was dreading this almost as much as he was looking forward to it... it meant he got to see Kalan and spend time with Kalan and hug Kalan, but equally, the pack on his back held two gifts that had the potential to either have him shunned, or just laughed away on principal that the notion had come to him as a way to avoid needing to give the one he cared for the gift of an actual heart...
Sure okay, there was probably a part of Zakn that fell into affection too easily.. but Kalan..? Well damn. He was just pretty much perfect wasn't he?

Kalan felt.. Oddly relaxed today..
It was a peculiar sort of thing to be feeling for him, it was not something he was allowed to feel with his line of work. Always the niggling little stresses about if his equipment was in working order, did they remember to move his lizard to the next base-camp, how tough was the next raid going to be? An endless stream of worries and little things to do in preparation.
But today.. There was simply nothing on the agenda, and it was a truly wonderful feeling!
It was so nice that the small male truly wished that he had someone to share it with, and the certain someone that he was thinking about had let on that he was going to be busy today. He hadn't left details, but then Zakn'fryn wasn't exactly known to go right in to the small details a lot of the time. The male smiled fondly as he leaned back against the wall where he sat on his bed. The bed was slightly larger than the one in his usual barracks, however it was not as comfortable and it could be improved upon greatly, in Kalan's opinion, if he had his talkative friend to sleep on in said bed during the night. Zakn, he had found, seemed to have a knack for sleeping well no matter how uncomfortable the surface has was resting on was.
On that thought Kalan couldn't contain an amused little chuckle as he lingered on the aforementioned drow.. Their last little excursion from the base-camp on almost the other side of the Underdark, a week or so ago when they had decided to take a small stroll to see the shining 'stars' of the Glimmer Sea caverns, something that apparently just had to be done. He had been more than happy to play along with Zakn as he tried to secretly make their outings more.. Romantic..
And it had worked, in fairness, it was a pretty magical sight.. Until they'd disturbed a mother-drake and her clutch of eggs of course.. It had still been a lovely evening after their forced run as well.
He'd really loved that.. The fact that Zakn had been taking more and more of an interest in him, and genuinely seemed to want to spend more time with him, and in such sweet and intimate ways. Just being able to be within cuddling distance.. And the gentle touches to his hair or back.. He made a pleased little noise and fidgeted his top a little further down his stomach as he was snapped from his more and more rambling thoughts by a sharp knock to his door however.. It was curious.. He had not been expecting anyone today.. And if it had been Shi'n.. Well, he'd certainly be able to tell it was him already.
Rising from his day-dreaming spot on the bed, his goggles around his neck, and tugging the snug-fitting, pale, blue-grey top down yet again he made his way to the not as sturdy as he would have liked door as the rapping came again.. It was strange how he could have sworn that it was Zakn that was on the other side, his knocks.. Well, there was a certain pattern to them, is was oddly familiar..
He was pleasantly surprised when he tugged the door open to reveal the main object of his recent day-dreaming, and he couldn't stop the happy smile that spread across his features.
"Zakn'fryn De'Faer.. I do believe you are the most wicked liar I have ever met.." He announced, affectionately, "Only the other day you were telling me how horribly busy you would be on my days off.. Yet here you are, as bold as ever contradicting yourself.. I am entirely unsure as to whether I can trust your word anymore."
All the same, he extended a hand to touch the other males chest as he pushed the door all the wider, to let him pass, the same fond happiness shining in his eyes.

"I might have told a teeny tiny little fib..." he stated, a smile creeping happily over his lips at the sight of Kalan. "But well, I sort of had to, just a little.." he lifted one of his hands up and caught hold of the fingers that were now touching his chest. He was so happy to see him again... he really was, it was actually pretty goofy. "There was something I needed to do today..." he stated, leaning down slightly to just catch the other male's lips in a very light kiss, the same smile still lifting them slightly. After that he stepped past his... friend? and just caught carried on holding onto the fingers he'd been holding, walking Kalan back into the room.
"You see, there's this thing... it's a little silly, this whole.. and don't get me wrong, I know its really late but... hmm." He stopped for a minute, his smile turning wry. "Okay, lets try again... the tradition of giving gifts, well... hearts to people... and please don't worry I'm not giving you a heart... I mean.. yeah. I'm not giving you one." he really hoped Kalan wasn't a particular fan of the heart giving tradition after all, else this would be rather a misspent attempt. "Well.. its just.. I might have maybe gotten you something... maybe.." he wasn't doing very well at explaining himself, but despite his usual brash confidence he'd suddenly come over really worried and uneasy...
He guessed it was just because he was worried he'd say too much or push it too far... or something..

Kalan grinned all the more and curled his fingers around Zakn's, "A teeny-tiny fib..? I still think that makes you a liar.." He continued to tease, the surprised joy of having Zakn drop by today pretty evident in the way he was smiling, the smile easily reaching his eyes as well.
It nly got better when he was gifted with a little kiss, which the smaller male was more than happy to return, no matter how brief it was. He let Zakn pass him and paused to push the door closed once more before he allowed the other to tug him further into the small room. He seemed to be babbling a little, usually a clear sign that he was nervous.. And when he was nervous it meant he was trying to broach.. Something he thought was a l little awkward..
"A heart..?" He pulled a little face at that as he listened to the taller drow, "They are not even good for eating, so I suppose.. If you're being as.. Mushy.. As I think you're trying to be," He tried to sound reassuring, "I'd be.. Pleased to help you break the tradition..?"
He stepped a little closer, giving the bigger fingers that had caught his a squeeze, leaning up to gently bump his nose against Zakn's chin.

"Thats actually a real relief." he stated with a smile, his free hand lifting up to brush over Kalan's cheek. "Because its not really my cup of tea either..." his fingers brushed gently down to the others chin as he leant down, brushing another little kiss over his lips. "I didn't think you'd want that either.. so.. I was trying to find something.. better... but.. I'm not that good with gifts really.." he pressed his forehead against Kalan's for a moment. "So you can't hold them against me, okay?" he smiled again, straightening up once more with another little kiss to Kalan's forehead. "Sorry... I'm worse than usual today, huh?" he stated. "I guess I'm just stupidly happy to see you when I wasn't sure I was going to be able to and.." he paused again, just grinning at Kalan.. "I'm sorry, I should probably stop talking, shouldn't I?"
He really did talk too much when he was nervous, it was daft really but he just couldn't help himself.. Kalan was just.. perfect! He couldn't get over how happy he was to get to spend time around him, even if it did make him act like a really goofy a**... he couldn't help it though. "I really do hope you like them though, even though they are a little odd..." ge grinned at Kalan.. by Lloth he was lovely.. cute as anything, really good fun and damn was he hot...

If he'd had a paler complexion Kalan feared he'd be teased to no end for the small flush creeping over his cheeks at the gentle kisses he received. He didn't think he'd ever get used to it, in a very good way, they'd never get old.
"Hmm.." He started, pressing his other hand to Zakn's chest as he continued to nervously explain what he was doing, the purpose of his visit, "Though you never think so.. I believe you to be a far more insightful drow that you think you are.. And I'm very confident that what-so-ever you have chosen instead of that horrible heart, will be perfect." He hummed up to him as a kiss was pressed to his forehead, stroking his hand up the chest he was leaning more and more against to curl his fingers over the others shoulder, his thumb just brushing Zakn's neck.
"I don't mind you talking though.." He grinned a littel more, leaning back to peek up up at his companion through his hair, still with wearing a pleased little smile, "If it helps you feel more relaxed.." He shrugged, who am I to stop you? Though I have to admit.. I do think you're trying to stall now..? Please, Zakn.. Can I see?"

"Maybe a little.." Zakn replied, the smile on his face turning sheepish once again. "But... I dunno Kalan.. everything's just been so good since I met you.. I've never been this happy and and I guess I just don't want to do anything stupid.. okay.. I mean more stupid than I already do..." He lifted his hands up to catch the other Drow's cheeks between them, his darker blue eyes fixed on Kalan's for a moment. They were so beautiful, the pale blue eyes... in fact everything about him was beautiful..
"It has to be perfect Kalan.. I just... I just love you so much that-!" He froze suddenly... okay. So that thought had crossed his mind a few times, true... but he'd not meant to say it! They'd only been seeing each other in any stretch of the word for two months... and even then it was sketchy.. Lloth! What had he done...
It was probably visible in his eyes that he'd just scared the life out of himself, and with a garbled apology of "Oh Lloth I didn't mean.. I mean.. I did.. but I shouldn't.. Oh Goddess..." the much taller drow started to try to move his way back over to the door. His actions however, while never actually graceful anyway were even less than coordinated just now and in an epic act of stumbling he managed to trip himself up with his own foot, stumbled around and ended up sprawled on his a** on the floor, leaning back on his hands, his knees hitched up and a highly panicked look on his face. "Goddess Kalan, I'm sorry... I'll... go I'm trying to..." he started to make an attempt at getting up.

The fond little smile only grew when Zakn smiled sheepishly, his freed hand snaking up to rest against the back of one of the hands that Zakn now had resting on his fairly warm cheeks. He just couldn't resist nuzzling against his palm.
"You're not stupid." He almost purred up at him, "And I'm sure it-" He broke off.. Those words.. "You..?" He started, only to have the other male break away from him with a quick, panicky apology. He loved him..? He had been sure that he'd heard that, and the way that the other male was acting.. Sort of confirmed it. His eyes widened as the other male made an attempt to escape the room, and with a distressed little noise he started to move off after him.. Not that he had to go far as Zakn fell only a foot or so short of the door, giving him a terrified little look as he attempted to scrabble away.
Kalan almost felt as if he was going into auto-pilot, he didn't want the other to run away! He almost threw himself down at the other, finding himself soon sitting astride the larger male, his hands gripping onto his top and shoulders, hoping that dispite his slight frame he could make Zakns escape that little bit more difficult.
"Please.. Please don't run away from me, Zakn.." He managed after the briefest of pauses, his eyes shining a little with a mix of emotions, "Please don't go after that.. I don't want this to turn into.. Into last time.." He ducked his head a little, squeezing his eyes closed as he gripped Zakn's shirt that little bit harder, "I.. I was shocked to hear that, but I... I.. Like it.. I love you too. I love you, and I don't want you to say that and then run away like he did.."
He'd said it at last.. It made sense, to him at least. They'd been seeing each other for a fair amount of time, he knew he had feelings for him, he also knew that it was probably going to be an.. Interesting subject when it came to it. He'd known that, or at least he had certainly hoped, Zakn had shared these feelings.. Seemed he had been right.
He just hadn't expected this to be the time for it to be admitted at last.

The shock he had felt at his own stupidity wasn't a patch on what he felt at suddenly having Kalan attached to him, or hearing the same words actually said back to him... "You do...?" He could hear his voice was laced with disbelief, "I mean... you don't... have to... but I love you Kalan.. I really do.. you're so... you're just you.."I'm not going anywhere..." he brought his arms up and around Kalan's shoulders, giving him a gentle squeeze as he rested his cheek against the somehow soft spiky hair. "I'm really sorry I freaked out back there.. it's just, I was worried I'd said too much, that you'd be upset or scared. I'm not weirded out by how I feel at all.. I was just worried I'd gone and shoved my foot right in my mouth.." for a moment he fell quiet and just smooshed his nose a little more into Kalan's hair.
"I mean.. honestly..? I can hardly get you out of my head.. you're always in there doing something or other..." he chuckled once. "I'm so pleased you're not.. worried about it... and.. this is so.. well, I guess its so us... we're never exactly conventional about anything, are we..?" He was so pleased Kalan hadn't wanted him to leave.. he'd convinced himself time and time again that he'd need more time, and he'd not wanted to do anything to pressure his lovely partner...
He found himself smiling, as he sat there on the floor with Kalan in his arms, somehow the clumsy way of admitting their feelings actually worked for them. Though, in hindsight, his arse really hurt. "Oh hey... I've still kinda got your present Kal..." he murmured quietly, still nosing at the fluffy white hair.

"Of course I do!" Kalan was quick to reply to the first question, looking up to Zakn's face again, his eyes shining with the threat of tears, "I'd have thought.. That with how close we've been, all the time we've spent together.. It should have been a little more obvious that.. That I.. Loved you." He faltered a little realising he was making himself look more and more like an insecure fool, so he decided to put a stop to it himself, flopping down on the drow beneath him and pressing his face to his neck with a heavy sigh.
He was getting frustrated with himself, he was coming across as a bit of a wreck when presented with something that should have made him feel happy. It did make him happy, he just.. Damn he hadn't been expecting it. He had realised the gentle tremble running through him until familiar arms wrapped around him and held him closer.
It certainly helped re-affirm that the other wasn't going to go now.
"I'm sorry.. I'm sorry, I'm acting like such a fool.." He spoke up, though his voice was rather muffled where he was still burrowed against Zakns neck, "It doesn't seem like it, but I'm happy. You've made me so happy!" He managed a little laugh, "Your trying to escape startled me a little, I fear!"
He took as deep a breath as he could, where he was buried, lipping a little at the others neck, "You promise you're not going anywhere..?" He queried quietly, smiling a little more at last at the gentle pettings and nuzzles against his hair. It was soothing..
And.. Presents..?
"Heh.. I'd.. I'd nearly forgotten you'd bought me something.." He admitted with an amused little noise.

"You shouldn't be saying sorry.. I'm the one that ended sprawling over your floor after startling us both..." he stated with another little nuzzle, slightly amused and definitely pleased with the attention his neck was getting. "I promise though, really, I'm not going anywhere.. I wanted to see you so badly today that I don't think a pack of riding lizards would actually drag me away if they tried." He gave Kalan a little squeeze once again, before just letting his hands run over the smaller Drow's back once. "I'm really sorry for startling you like that, I didn't exactly want to escape.. I don't think I'd have actually gone much further than just outside, I just wasn't sure how I'd have dealt with it if you'd not wanted to hear what I'd just said.. I was just trying to give you some space I think.. though I'm honestly not exactly sure what I was really actually doing... autopilot I think."
As for the presents though, he still wanted to give them to Kalan. Keeping one arm wrapped around the other Drow, he reached out and snagged the bag that he'd carried the gifts over here in by its handle, and dragged it closer. Once he had hold of it again he skooched himself back a little so that his back was against the door, and set about one handedly opening it. "Like I say.. you'll have to forgive me if they're silly gifts but... I kinda wanted them to be useful, rather than just... you know.. gifty.." he smiled slightly and worked one of his hands down inside the bag.
"Aaaha." after almost of minute of silent rummaging he pulled his hand out again, finally removing the hand that had been petting him from Kalans back to lean the other Drow away from him a little. He brought both his hands in between them and, opening them up like a clam he revealed a fairly seizable lump of diamond. "Its not just to look at.." he stated, "Though it is kinda pretty, its for your sword.. diamonds work, well, really really well if you get them cut just right to keep the blade sharp, so I..uh.. got this one cut for you.. gotta help keep you safe after all?" He queried with a smile, reaching past Kalan to pull something out of the bag again.. "And warm... of course..." the second gift... the pelt of a fairly large, and very black wolf from the surface... "Winter's cold after all..."
By Lloth he really hoped Kalan liked the gifts...

The smaller drow laughed a little, sniffing, "Sorry.. Went into.. A bit of an emotional overload.." He snuffled again and pulled back just a little to nose at Zakns jaw for a moment, peering up at him through slightly damp eyelashes.
"I promise I'll behave now, I'm okay!" he snuggles a little more, thoroughly enjoying the closeness as Zakn moved the pair of them to a sitting position, still cuddling him close. He loved how it felt, and it was certainly helping to calm him. He loosened his death-grip on the other drows top at long last, slipping his hands down the broad shoulders to he could lean in and rest his cheek there.. Until he was moved away however.
He had to admit, though he made a small sound of protest at having to move away, he was still pretty curious about what it was that was in the bag. His stomach seemed to think that way too as once again his top had ridden up during their rather.. Active out-burst earlier, and quite unlike him, he had failed to notice for the time being, finding himself instead looking down at quite a hefty diamond. His eyes widened all the more, "It's beautiful.." He mumbled, accepting the fairly shiny gift, "And I promise I'll use it well. I'll do a much more satisfactory job that my current whetstone." Ne nodded his approval, obviously drawn to how pretty the rock was just as much as it was useful to him..
But then he was presented with the pelt..
He set the diamond down beside them and reached to stroke the fur, "I think you know my sleeping habits to well.." He beamed, leaning forwards to wrap his arms around the taller males neck and burrow closer, "But if you're giving me a pelt to keep me warm then I may not need you, anymore!"
He couldn't help but tease just a little.. Only a little!
"I love them, Zakn! Thank you.." He murmured, becoming more himself at last after his little fright, curling his fingers into the deceptively soft black spikes of his other-halfs hair.. He liked how that sounded, his partner..
"Much better than a gooey smelly heart.. Well a human heart.." He stroked a hand down his neck, thoughtfully and rested it on his partners chest, "I much prefer this one."

That was quite possibly the sweetest thing that Kalan could have said to him... the look of almost wondering surprise that registered on the other males expressive face was clear, his eyes slightly wider than usual, and his mouth ever so slightly opened with the breath he almost held. "Its yours..." he stated, his hand lifting to cover the one on his chest. "Every part of it is yours Kalan.." he curled his other arm around his lovely Kalan, and just pulled him close once again, keeping their hands held between them. "I'm so glad you liked the other gifts as well though..." They didn't seem quite so silly now that Kalan liked them.. he was relieved.
He could honestly just have sat there for hours, his arms around Kalan. If he was quite true to himself he would have happily never had to let him go again. He loved the other dearly... it had been an odd meeting that had set them on this path, a run, a stolen kiss, and here they were, curled in eachothers arms for now... "Kalan..." he finally murmured after being quiet for quite some time... "Can I stay with you tonight... I'd rather not be parted from you for a time... not because I fear anything in the future, simply because I don't think any amount of persuasion will take my arms from you my love..." It felt strangely nice to say that word so easilly now...

Kalan made a horribly pleased little noise, leaning as close as he could get to the other male, pressing his face against his neck.
"As is mine, for you.." He mumbled, smiling happily as he pressed a kiss to the others neck, "I'm afraid it is all I have to give you in return for your other thoughtful gifts.. Love.." He grinned a little more, enjoying how the word sounded.
"I'd love for you to stay with me!" He responded to Zakns query, pulling away from him just enough to rest himself more comfortably against him, but so he could look up at the other males face, "Now at least we no longer need to think up an excuse to have you stay like.. We were doing on occasion previously.." He chuckled softly, leaning up to press his lips to Zakn's lower one, "We may have to move their sooner rather than later however.. My stomach is getting a little too warm with the furs between us.. And I'm not sure that the floor can be all to comfortable for you..?"

"Discomfort is as nothing." Zakn stated at once, finally releacing Kalans other hand, the one he held between them to wrap both his arms around the smaller male, delighted by the fact that Kalan was happy to have him stay! Not only happy though! He'd love it! He couldn't help the slightly smug sensation, he really couldn't.. Kalan was lovely... "You've given me more than I could have hoped for anyway.." he stated, nosing at Kalans cheek. "Couldn't be happier if I tried just now.." He smiled down at Kalan for a moment longer.
"You know though, if you're not adverse to it, going and laying on the bed could be nice anyway.. I mean, I'm fine down here but, if you'd like to be a little more comfy as well... well, then I guess that could be a plan..?" He lifted a and once more to bury his fingers in his dear ones hair, it always felt so nice to the touch. "I'd quite like to be able to hold you properly, I will admit.. and I know its still early but.. a little rest couldn't really go amiss.." the kisses to his botom lip were lovely, and he reinitiated that little practice as soon as he was done speaking.
