Most cacti live in habitats subject to at least some drought. Many live in extremely dry environments, even being found in the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on earth. Cacti show many adaptations to conserve water. Most species of cacti have lost true leaves, retaining only spines, which are highly modified leaves. As well as defending against herbivores, spines help prevent water loss by reducing air flow close to the cactus and providing some shade. Cactus spines are produced from specialized structures called areoles, a kind of highly reduced branch. Areoles are an identifying feature of cacti. As well as spines, areoles give rise to flowers, which are usually tubular and multi-petaled.
The leafless spiny stem is the characteristic feature of the majority of cacti (and all of those belonging to the largest subfamily, the Cactoideae). The stem is typically succulent, meaning that it is adapted to store water. Botanically "spines" are distinguished from "thorns": spines are modified leaves, thorns are modified branches. Cacti produce spines, always from areoles as noted above. The spines of cacti are often useful in identification, since they vary greatly between species in number, color, size, shape and hardness, as well as in whether all the spines produced by an areole are similar or whether they are of distinct kinds. Most spines are straight or at most slightly curved, and are described as hair-like, bristle-like, needle-like or awl-like, depending on their length and thickness. Some cacti have flattened spines. Other cacti have hooked spines. Sometimes one or more central spines are hooked while outer spines are straight.

The gray wolf is a species of canid native to the wilderness and remote areas of North America, Eurasia, and North Africa. It is the largest member of its family, with males averaging 95–100 lbs, and females 80–85 lbs. It is similar in general appearance and proportions to a German shepherd, or sled dog, but has a larger head, narrower chest, longer legs, straighter tail and bigger paws. Its winter fur is long and bushy, and is usually mottled gray in color, though it can range from nearly pure white, red, or brown to black.
The gray wolf is a slender, powerfully built animal with a large, deeply descending ribcage and a sloping back. Its abdomen is pulled in, and its neck heavily muscled. Its limbs are long and robust, with comparatively small paws. The front paws have five toes each, while the back paws have four. The forelimbs are seemingly pressed into the chest, with the elbows pointed inward, and the feet outward, thus allowing both fore and hind limbs on the same side to swing in the same line. The wolf's legs are moderately longer than those of other canids. This enables the animal to move swiftly, and allows it to overcome the deep snow that covers most of its geographical range.
The gray wolf's head is large and heavy, with wide a forehead, strong jaws and a long, blunt muzzle. The ears are relatively small and triangular. The teeth are heavy and large, being better suited to crushing bone than those of other extant canids, though not as specialised as those found in hyenas. The canine teeth are robust and relatively short (26 mm). The wolf can exert a crushing pressure of perhaps 1,500 lbf/in2 compared to 750 lbf/in2 for a German shepherd. This force is sufficient to break open most bones. In cold climates, the wolf can reduce the flow of blood near its skin to conserve body heat. The warmth of the footpads is regulated independently of the rest of the body, and is maintained at just above tissue-freezing point where the pads come in contact with ice and snow.
The gray wolf usually carries its head at the same level as the back, raising it only when alert. It usually travels at a loping pace, placing its paws one directly in front of the other. This gait can be maintained for hours at a rate of 8–9 km/hr, and allows the wolf to cover great distances. On bare paths, a wolf can quickly achieve speeds of 50–60 km/hr. A running wolf holds its head slightly low and cocked to one side, directing one ear forward and the other back. This posture allows the wolf to continually make use of its exceptional hearing.
The gray wolf's sense of smell is relatively weakly developed when compared to that of some hunting dog breeds, being able to detect carrion upwind no farther than 2–3 km. Because of this, it rarely manages to capture hidden hares or birds, though it can easily follow fresh tracks. Its auditory perception is sharper than that of the fox, being able to hear up to a frequency of 26 kHz, which is sufficient to register the fall of leaves in the autumn period. Its night vision exceeds that of other Canids.

Strengths

Personality: He can think quickly on his feet and react fast. He's not one to easily give up on something he thinks should be done. While it's definitely not easy to befriend Garret, the few friends he does manage to make are held as dear as family to him. He would do anything for family. His loyalty is not easily gained as it usually takes something outstanding enough to catch his attention in the first place. And heaven help you if you break his trust. Garret does not take that easily and you would fall quickly from "family" right to "worst enemy" territory. He might even think you need some sense knocked into your thick skull.
He's good at what he does, knows it, and will often make sure you know it as well (repeatedly). Doesn't often get along well with others due to this. Hates having to deal with people slow to understand or overly cheerful people. Usually it brings out his temper and he tends to lash out (more often verbally than physically) at them.
Garret doesn't go out of his way to interact with others, but he's not one to actively push someone away if they try to make friends. He is rather quiet and reserved, reluctant to share anything about himself with anyone. He doesn't trust anyone easily, hardly at all, even. Bad things happen when you trust someone. Easier to just not trust and therefore not have that trust broken than to have to deal with it. He doesn't need your help and doesn't appreciate you offering.
Garret also tends to speak mostly in grunts with the occasional word or two, especially those those he does not know well. His friends might hear a few more words than others, but don't expect long speeches from him. That's just not him.
Garret is far from patient and is prone to losing his temper, especially when dealing with something he's already grasped and others are holding him back because they cannot grasp it. Most often he lashes out verbally (often the most words some hear from him!), though he's not above resorting to violence if he deems it necessary.
Garret finds himself walking the same paths to a location, sitting in the same spot to eat, lurking in the same areas, and keeping to a schedule. He is not fond of changes to his usual habits, such as a roadblock or someone taking "his" seat. An unexpected change in his routine will really throw him off balance for a while, making him even more prone to snapping.
Likes: Quiet, reading,
Dislikes: Change, large social groups,
Fears: Opening up to someone only to have them hurt him.

Sameness: He feeds off the identical properties of items, causing small differences to begin appearing. - Multiple Me's: He is able to create multiple copies of himself. As a Frei, he is only able to create one copy, but as he grows older he'll be able to make more copies. Personality: He treats others in accordance to how they rank to him and in his personal hierarchy. Jobs of service (janitors, waiters, etc) are among the lowest of the ranking. Those older are treated with a bit of respect until he determines exactly where they fit while younger people are mostly ignored. He will follow orders from those higher in ranking, though he may or may not like it and will possibly grumble while obeying.
He is a good leader, though. Those in his command become family to him and while he will still be a bit bossy with them, he'll also be more open with them than another of that same "rank" who is not in his group. He is one that you can tell to do something and know that he will get it done (even if he delegates it to someone else, he'll make sure THEY do it).
He tends to turn everything into a competition, and he must win! Want him to actually do something? Dare them that he can't do it. Then watch as he tries his best to do it even better than dared.
He has a hard time being still and prefers to be moving, which tends to drive his guardian up the wall. He also does not like being left alone. He craves company and companionship constantly, which also drives his guardian bonkers. She just wants two minutes alone to go pee, for Pete's sake!!!

- Howling message: He (or his copies) can howl out a message. To anyone but the original or a copy, it is just a simple howl, but to the original and copies, it is a encrypted message. Shorter, simple messages are much easier to send and understand. The message can get garbled if there is a lot of background noise or if the receiver only hears part of the howl.
- Enhanced senses: His hearing is quite acute, able to hear things from a distance more easily than most. However, this leads to loud noises disturbing him more. While his vision is not any greater, he does indeed have night vision.
- Cold hands: His hands are very cold, just above freezing. He is unable to make them warm and he does not feel the cold. However, he learns to wear gloves to handle items and touch other people.

PERSONALITY : Nikiana is a rather quiet person. She tends to speak less around those she doesn't know. However, once you get to know her, sometimes it's hard to get her to shut up. She's polite and almost always has a smile on her face. She's kind-hearted and always willing to help out. Niki puts her whole heart into pretty much everything. While this could be considered a strength, it often leaves her open to be hurt. A people-pleaser... going to the extreme of doing something she wouldn't normally like to do just to make them happy. She's fairly stubborn.
HISTORY : Niki was born to Donald and Tamara Ledell. She grew up an only child, secluded from her peers for the most part due to her interests in schoolwork and learning rather than keeping up with celebrity news and gossip. When she was entering high school, her parents had another child, a little boy they named Manson. Niki was not overly thrilled about this. A little brother was a bother and a pest, knocking over her chess games with herself (as her parents did not know how to play) and, on more than one occasion, eating her homework.
She graduated and left home to go to college, where she graduated with honors with a science degree. Hearing of Gaia, she fled there, hoping to find a job researching dragons. Sadly, she was unable to do so and instead researches independently from home while working on a secret project of her own in her spare time.

I just want to let you know right away that there are others questing a similar essence, Shattered Diamonds and Malleable Diamonds. I can't remember whose these are, but I do remember then being talked about. One is fragile diamonds and the other is diamonds that are like squishy or something of the like. Anyway, I tell you this not to discourage you, but so you are aware.
Onto it then. So the liquification of diamonds? I could see the storm causing that. Water that glitters like diamonds comes to mind for this essence. But then would the Raevan feed off diamonds then? That could get quite expensive for your guardian. Then again maybe it could be more than just diamonds it feeds from. Maybe all things that glitter like it.
Your soul is fine as far as I can tell. Minks are cute. 4laugh

Firstly, the mink picture makes me think of a puppy dog who has gotten in trouble. XD
Next, I did have a diamond based Essence before I started questing, but was told there were already diamond Essences out there. I let that idea go, but keep with yours since it appears to be unique.
To Ebony: Malleable means it can be worked with, like it's easy to mold, bend, cut, stuff like that. n.n
Back to Nikiana: Since the Essence is liquid, would the Raevan feed off of liquids or would she feed from somethings solid, kind of like to regain the original form lost by the storm? Or, like Ebony said, glittery things would be cool for her to feed off of, though she could get into some hilarious trouble trying to feed off a car in direct sunlight. X3

Yeah, when I got Kyou to critique my semi-custom entry, she said there were other diamond essences. However, I didn't see them when I'd looked into my entry. Since then I've looked into them and mine seems to be different, so hopefully not stepping on too many toes there...
Plus Kyou said it was neat and different.
I was kinda stuck on what to feed on, but I think sparkles would be awesome. XD Or, pretty much, the light from it. Like from a prism or something.
... The image does look like a sad puppy... XD It was just one of the first ones I found that showed the full body coloration and such. XD

After a bit of looking at wiki, going with dispersed light. So a prism would probably be carried around and jewelry stores would be buffets. Especially since they have lights angled to maximize the sparkle of the stones.
