Tips for Character Development

If you want a few tips that will make your character 10,000 times better try this:

Tip 1: When you add something ask yourself: How does this make my character concept more complete?
Example:
Genin A wants to use the “Ice” element. How does this play into her character concept? Is she a cold b***h with a closed heart in need of a friend? This might reflect on her character. (See: Wikipedia: Metaphor)

(Alternatively she might be from the Snow village and she really wants to play this up.)

Tip 2: Make your character weak starting out.
A gimped character can grow. Let him/her get beat up. Let them break a bone. Let them learn. Let them fail so that way when they succeed its that much more impressive!

Tip 3: Let things happen in the RP, not in your history.
Its Ok to have normal things happen to your character in their background. As long as you have a good RP, things will make your character better IN the story.

Tip 4: Play things outside the norm.
Everyone is an angst-ridden pretty boy teenager with a dark past, dead parents, and a mysterious power. Live a little! Express yourself! Be a 56 year old with war stories to tell and a wife! Try being a little upbeat or have no power! What about parents? Have then nag you, inspire you, protect you.

If you use these 4 tips I guarantee your character will be 1,000 times more interesting than the emo clones everyone has.

What is an "Archytype" Van?

Theme and archetype are two literary terms when it comes to play when you look at character development.

In character development an archetype is an established character, an example of a potent ideal , whatever it i- it's a symbol recognized by everyone. Some common examles are "the reluctant hero", "the fem fatal", "rebel without a cause", "the Greek hero" (hubris anyone?), ect ect ect
