When Uzuri was a younger, sillier mare, she'd dreamt of conceiving a perfect little filly, whom she could entrust all of her traditions to and raise with all her love. She'd never dreamed that motherhood could entail anything else.

Then she'd- well. She'd gotten careless with a routine, no-strings dalliance. And the Spirits had sensed her disquiet, and they'd given her sons.

Uzuri wasn't always sure what to do with sons. But she'd been pleasantly surprised to find that she could still love them to distraction.

"Idris," she directed her wingless colt, "Please find me some feverfew."

Idris' brow furrowed with concern.

"Are you well, Mum?"

The idea of Mum feeling weak was almost unthinkable! They'd travelled all over the Kawani lands, and even beyond, but Mum never failed or faltered. Like all mothers, she was clearly invincible.

"Yes, dear. This is a test." Uzuri arched an eyebrow, silently bemused. "You were listening to the lessons I gave you last week, weren't you?"

Idris was too easy to tease. If anyone was likely to forget lessons, it was Asar. But Uzuri couldn't let on that she knew he lapped up her every word. A colt needed to be held to high standards by his mother, so that he didn't grow up into a shiftless stallion.

Perhaps if she sent Idris off on enough lonely errands, he'd find some of the boldness that came so naturally to his brother.

"Oh. Uh, right. Of course!"

Idris flicked his tail, golden eyes bright with determination.

"I'll be right back, Mum."

With that, he disappeared into the brush.

Thoth landed as gracefully as possible when he decided he would like to take a walk instead of flying. having the day to himself, he decided exploring on foot would be better suited than from the air. stretching his wings fully before closing them to his side. he gave is wings a ruffle to smooth the feathers out before contiuning on his way. figuring it would be like any other day, he expected no surpises at all what so ever since well he wasnt the most social one because of his brother teasing him, which caused him to be self concesness when around others.

Idris poked and prodded around in the bush, looking for the feverfew that his Mum had asked him to find. The colt loved studying the lands that his family travelled through, yet he couldn't allow himself to become absorbed in the landscape, or let his thoughts turn into daydreams. His ears were pricked and alert. He had no wings, so caution was his byword.

When Idris heard twigs crackling under the weight of an approaching stallion, he immediately turned and dove into a bush.

hearing something russle in the bushs, he gave a snort and eyed the bush. " hmmmm...." standing still, he wondered what had decided to run off from him when it was obivious he was no threat and was just passing through. " if anyone is hiding theres no need to." speaking calmly and in a mono tone voice, he kept himself none threating since he figured he had by accedent scared someone or something. if it had happened to be some rabbit or mouse, then he would go on his way since he really didnt need to stick around if there was no one really about. giving a flick of his tail, he was only going to wait so long before moving on and going about his day as usual.

Ordinarily, Idris would have let the stallion go on his way without making another sound.

He wasn't shy. Not really. It was hard to be a recluse when Asar was around to make introductions for you everwhere you went. But one never knew what intentions that strange stallions might have, no matter how harmless they claimed to be. They were wandering through unknown and unsecured territory. Idris would be in very big trouble if he allowed himself to be duped by kidnappers or part-Kalona or worse.

It was lucky for him that he was much plainer than his brother, and could blend more easily into the dirt. Otherwise he would have been seen almost immediately. Hiding was the sensible thing to do.

Only...

Idris leaned forward, squinting through leaves and branches to try and get a better look at the wanderer.

Only.

Oh, my.

Idris and the stallion had the very same eyes.

They looked utterly unlike another in every other respect. Idris was dark, with red hair and brass markings, while the Wind was a sort of light dun. Idris was the plain boy in his family, while the Wind was covered in extravagant jewelry. Yet they both had eyes of liquid gold, with a glyph-like markings surrounding them.

That was... hmm.

Idris couldn't help but wonder.

"Excuse me." Idris politely extricated himself from the bush, and tossed the leaves out of his mane. "Good evening, sir. Are you here to see my mother?"

Thoth was surpised it had been a foal that had been hiding from him. but no matter, he kept calm as ever and eyed the foal. he was taken back however by what came out of the foals mouth. now why on earth would he be here to see his mother? to is knowlage he was only here exploring and taking a breather from flying. raising a brow, he spoke in a dry tone. " I'm afraid i have no clue as to whom your mother is or who you are for that matter. so young boy if i might ask as to who you are and why you appear to be alone?" it was true they had the simular trait of the eye marking that was a trait only in his family to his knowlage, but he paid no mind to the simular eye markings since well he had no clue that his brother Seth was foolish enough to unknowingly get a mare preggo then leave her.

Idris' brow furrowed. This stallion didn't have very good manners. He spoke in a dry, disaffected tone, and demanded to know who Idris was and what he was doing without offering so much as a simple greeting.

Mum always said that rude people either weren't very important, or were so important that they felt they didn't need to be polite. Idris wasn't sure which category this stallion fit into, yet, so he'd have to try and be diplomatic.

Meeting a rougher person was scary...but also a little exciting! Usually Soquili were on their best behavior around Mum.

"My name is Idris. My mother is Uzuri, Holy Priestess and Ambassador of the Kaskazi Veldt. We're travelling to meet with dignitaries amongst the Kawani herds." Idris blinked earnestly up at the Wind. "You don't look Kawani either. Ummm... if you will pardon the intrusion, may I ask who you are, where you are from, and why you are alone as well?"

Using big words and set manners made Idris feel more comfortable about being alone with a stranger.

" a pleaser it is to meet you Idris." Thoth was actualy quite shocked at how well mannored Idris was as he knew foals where well suppost to be full of energy and liked to cause trouble but then again he never had as a foal. " my name is Thoth, i was born in these Kawani lands, and if i may say that i have everyright to be alone as i am an adult. but i was just taking a stroll to admire the area and explore." giving Idris a formal bow, he was always polite, proper even if he could be a bit dull and dry toned. " excuse any rude mannors of mine. but in all seriousness arent you suppost to be with your parents?" having never had much interaction with foals or anyone for that matter, he well wasnt sure how he was suppost to be or act towards a foal so he just well was himself.

Oh. W- well, that did make sense, but it didn't explain anything at all about their similar eye markings! Not anything at all! Idris was practically drowning in curiousity. He had to fight to keep himself from fidgeting with foalish energy; Mum wasn't impressed with behavior like that from young colts.

"My Mum sent me on an errand to find some feverfew. Mum is teaching me all about Kawani vegetation! She says it's really important to know things, and I agree!"

Idris surveyed the surrounding vegetation, his eyes aglow with earnest enthusiasm. He didn't care if the other foals made fun of him for it. He liked being able to impress adults by rattling off facts about various species and cultures.

"I, um-" Idris looked a little embarassed. "That is to say- I don't have a Dad, so Mum teaches me and my brother how to do things."

thoth probably would of just said that he got it from one of his parents and he now only knew the name of his mother which wouldn't help in any in explaining why Idris had the same eye markings. but when it came to asking questions, he would of encouraged it since it met learning what you didnt know before hand. but to say the lest he was actualy pleased that Idris was well in a way alot like how he had been as a foal and ontop of it, his mother was teaching him and making him educated. " if you want i can help you search for this feverfew so that you don't let dont let done you mother." Idris had no father?! well now that was a shocker right there for him since he expected foals to have both parents but it didnt help he was antisocial and rarely met anyone. " atlest you have your mother who cares about you and even teachs you useful things that you could use at one time or another."

"O- okay!" Idris said happily, his rust-colored tail swishing back and forth. "That would be really great! I can't look for things from the air like my brother, so, um, sometimes it takes me longer to do things than it takes him."

The difference between them being that Mum would never ask Asar to look for feverfew in the first place. Asar was outgoing and loved to find his own adventures. Mum didn't press him to go out and experience things the way she did with Idris.

"Do you know what feverfew looks like, sir?"
PostPosted: Mon Mar 16, 2009 9:01 am

" i never had to find feverfew myself but if you give me a discription of what it looks like i asure you i can find it." Thoth gave a smile as he always liked learnign something new or go off to find somethign specific for whatever reason. " and just call me Thoth, cause there no reason to call me sir whe you know my name Idris." chuckling, Idris amused him as he reminded him alot of himself but little did he know that he was idioly chatting with one of his nephews he did not know about.
