It was that time again, migration back to the beach. The foals were ready for the long travel, and Shrilal just wasn't cutting it now. Luckily for Aitumn he had already gotten use to the sandy terain of the beach from last time, and wasn't too worried about how his movement would be affected this time around. In high spirits the blood bay stallion kept an extended version of a walk, every once in awhile he almost seemed to be pranching. Quirne, it was close now and the smell of the salty air wisked through his nostrils.

When they said they were moving back home she wasn't entirely sure what that meant. Wasn't the tree their home? Apparently not. At the moment Tehya was walking close to her Ute, having switched between the adults every once in awhile just to change it up a bit. She liked walking with her family, it made her feel comforted.

The gilded mare smiled down at her golden-bay daughter, and lent down to lightly n** at her short mane. Like her mate, Cressida was very glad to be leaving the fruitlands. She liked the area, of course, but it held too many negative memories. More often than she would've liked, she'd found herself on the look-out for the big green brute while Aitumn was off in Ryuten, fetching her a basket full of food. The chances of him showing up there were slim at best, she knew, but she didn't feel truly free until they'd decided to leave the place. She was all too happy to do so.

Catching onto her dam's impish antics, the snowy filly grinned and pranced over to her father's side and nipped at his lengthy mane. She could only reach the ends, unlike Cress, who easily reached the top of her sister's head, but that didn't bother her. She'd be that big someday, she knew. Someday.

"Ute, riruy, when will we get there?" She didn't understand this whole 'home' situation not being Shrilal, just like her sister, but unlike her sister she was intent on finding the reasoning behind it. She had thought the tree was their home, but apparently it wasn't their parents' home. Where, then? Quirne, they'd said, but she didn't know what a quirne was.

She was perfectly fine just pondering the question as it rolled around in her mind, thinking on just what 'home' exactly meant. What was home? Tehya had been under the impression it was a permanent residence that belonged to her family, and that was considered there's, but that didn't seem to be the correct definition of the word. Apparently a home could be changed, and a nequus could choose its home at will. That was very intersting, Tehya might need to experiment on that.

All of the sudden her mane was being pulled at and the little filly gave a surprised squeal, bounding a few paces forward before turning to glance at her mother, a baffled look on her face. "Ute!" she gasped, trying not to giggle after her startled leap out of her thoughts. The golden-bay pranced back over to Cressida and nudged her nose into her dam's shoulder, delighted. She almost missed her sister's question, and perked her ears to listen for the response.

Aitumn had chuckled when Tehya nearly went racing off at the n** to her mane, but was caught off-guard when Rose happened to tug at his. The stallion tossed his head and glanced down at his snowy daughter, sticking his tongue out at as he praced forward in an egaserated trot. "We're almost there, I can smell the salt in the air, so probably several dozen paces until the ocean is in view", he informed, arching his neck and glancing over his shoulder, waiting to see if either Rose or Cress would decide to chase him.

Cress grinned as Tehya jumped and gasped. That wasn't the reaction she was aiming for but it amused her all the same, and she chuckled as she reached down to nibble at the filly's mane. "Lost in your own thoughts again, mimila?" Should it worry her that almost all the golden-bay did was think? ...no, she wasn't too social as a foal either, but that hardly mattered. Besides, Tehya was social enough; she did love Aitumn's stories, which made her glad. That was one thing he loved, telling stories, and she knew it made him quite happy indeed to be able to tell them to his children.

The snowy filly beamed at her sire, excited that she'd caught him off-guard. But, salt? The air did smell different here than in Shrilal... Much different, now that she actually paid attention to it. Hu. "Riruy, what's Quirne? Why is it our home, and not the tree? Why do we live in whatever a quirne is?"

But, he'd said they were almost there. Almost able to see it, anyway. With a broad grin, she wiggled her behind and suddenly bolted off up the small rise, intent on being the first to see whatever Quirne was. She met the sight with a gasp. She could see what looked like white grass - was it really grass? She couldn't tell from there - and lots of water that didn't sit still like it did in ponds, but it wasn't acting like water in rivers, either. There were rocks too, big ones, and ones that went straight up like a nequus' foreleg did. Was this Quirne? It looked so... so cool.

The golden-bay lifted her dainty muzzle and pointed it in her dam's direction once more, a sheepish grin spreading over her lips as it was all she could do. That, and simply nod to the question that her mother no doubtedly already knew the answer to. "It... well, I was trying to figure just what exactly home really means." The filly then gave a little whicker of a squeak and shook her own head. "But, that doesn't really matter, does it ute?" Not when she can play and n** at her parents that is. With a quick grin and a wiggle of her tiny wings, the filly glanced in her sibling's direction and simply bolted after her. It didn't matter why her sister had done so, for Tehya had missed the conversation with Aitumn and Rose entirely, she just wanted to play with her snowy counterpart.

Imagine the foal's shock as she stopped beside Rose, and gazed at the world in front of them. Tons of water. Crashing, always-moving, deep blue and white water. It was everywhere, she couldn't even see where the water ended and land begun. It was certainly bigger than any pond or lake they had ever visited. "What is this...?" she murmured, quite baffled with what she was attempting to wrap her mind around.

Before he could answer, the snowy filly had taken off without a backwards glance to hear his explanation. The sleek stallion simply snorted in amusement as he settled his pace next to Cress; a light smirk of a smile stuck to his muzzle. "That is the ocean", he answered Tehya as her question jumped out of her. However, that still left Rose's question unanswered. How could he begin to explain what a home was, when he himself had never before called any place home? Being a wanderer, it was a difficult issue to explain.

A slight dip of his head and he gently nudged at Cress. "I'm not quite sure how to explain the concept of a home to them", he whispered to her, hoping she would be able to come up with an explanation better than what his mind could wrap itself around.

The gilded mare smiled and nuzzled the blood bay's neck gently, then trotted forward to her two daughters. "A home is where you choose to live. Your riruy and I chose to live here in Quirne. No matter where we go or travel to, this will always be our home unless we decide to live somewhere else. A home is a place you can always come back to. If either of you left, you know you could always come home to us here." She wasn't entirely sure of how to describe it either, but hopefully that did the trick. She thought so, anyway.

She grinned and nipped Rose's flank gently. "Well, come on then, let's go see Quirne! You can't really see it from here, can you?" She asked, flicking her muscular tails and pranced toward the sands with a grin.

The snowy filly squealed and grinned at her dam, wiggling her stubby tail. She wasn't sure why her tail was different than her ute's, but that didn't matter really. What mattered was seeing Quirne! She kind of understood what Cress meant, but she was too busy to really pay attention more. With a giggle, she galloped towards the beach, turning her head to shout back at her sibling. "Can't catch me, Tehya!"

She laughed more as she bounded over a small hill, noting the grass becoming thinner and more sparse before she hit the white sands - and went down with a surprised squeal at the sudden change of foreign terrain. She quickly shot up onto her unsteady hooves, and stared confusedly at the sand below her. What was this? It wasn't grass or dirt, it was... it was so strange. It felt so different here!

The filly's ears twisted around to hear the explanation of what 'home' meant. True she would have been just as happy to n** at her father's mane at the time, but the young girl was sincerly interested in what the two adults had meant by calling Quirne their home. Plus, Tehya always did love to learn things, be it words or some new game. At the end of her mother's explanation Tehya gave a small snort, pondering over the meaning as if she'd understand it better if she gave it a moment longer to sink in-

No moment allowed. As soon as her sister dashed off and told her to catch her, Tehya sprang forward with a laugh. "Better run fast then, Rose!" she giggled and went after her sibling. Over a small hill and... WHAT?! She noticed Rose take a tumble and quickly dropped down to a cautious trot as her sister righted herself. "What happened?" she asked, perplexed. But come to think of it, why was the ground pulling at her hooves? And why did it all of the sudden become more slipperly? The golden bay danced in a nervous circle around her sister, staring at the white ground below as if she were afraid it'd swallow her up as soon as she stopped moving. "What is this?" she all but gasped.

Aitumn nudged at Cress' neck as he watched the two foals run off together, not even a comment on the explanation and they were off like that. He wondered just what they might think of the sand when they reached it. It had certainly taken to some adjusting when he had first came to Quirne, and though he was much better at it now he still slipped up every once in awhile on the strange terrain. Once in awhile, not often, but enough to be noticeable to the usually well balanced blood bay.

Slowly Aitumn had made his way up the hill- slowly for Aitumn being a brisk jog -and immediatly shook his head at the scene below. "That's sand, dears. You need to be more careful around Quirne, its easier to slip." Well, he couldn't say that had been unexpected, but it was still amusing to say the least.

The emerald-eyed mare couldn't help but chuckle as the fillies reached the sand, and Rose went down. She trotted after them, and nudged the snowy foal after she'd risen. "Yes, sand; you do have to be careful until you're used to it." That said, she pranced over across the sands and danced in a circle. Oh, she'd missed Quirne while at Shrilal, it felt wonderful to be back. "Come on, now! How are you to get used to it if you just stand there? Let's play tag! Riruy is it!" She said with a laugh and cantered off down the beach.

Rose watched her dam curiously, wondering how she was so good at walking on this... sand stuff. Well, at least they would get used to it soon. But as soon as Cress jumped away and said tag, the snowy foal grinned and squealed as she bolted off after their ute, stumbling and staggering as she did so but managing to stay upright. "Riruy's it, riruy's it! Run Tehya, come on before he gets you!" She giggled, flapping her small wings as if they'd help keep her from falling over in a heap.

It? Tag? Eep! The golden bay jumped, hopped, and skipped over the sand a few paces before finally gaining the courage to break out into a sprint after her mother and sister. Oh but the ground kept moving under her hooves, and the filly nearly stumbled and fell quite a few times before finally deciding it was much safer to canter than it was to gallop. "Ack! I don't like sand-" she squealed before her tiny hooves slipped on the wrong patch of sand and down she went in the same fashion Rose had before. Why? Why did sand have to be so difficult to move on?

The blood bay was in pursuit of Rose when, as his nose reached out to touch her flank in a 'tag' he happened to hear his other daughter's outburst about the sands. Well, yikes. "Rose is it!" he declared; however, loping off in the direction of Tehya to be sure that she was alright.

Drat! She was it now. Digging her heels into the sand and stumbling to a stop, the white filly looked around for who to get next - she couldn't get riruy again and since he was right next to Tehya, she couldn't get her either. Turning bright eyes onto her dam, she grinned and sprang into an unsteady canter to catch her. Cress had slowed and was waiting to see if the golden bay was alright, so Rose had an easy time of running over to prod her side with her soft muzzle. "Ute's it!" She said with a grin and cantered off to join her sire and Tehya.

The gilded mare chuckled at the nudge to her side, turning to study her family, or at least part of it. Tossing her lengthy mane to the other side of her neck, she half-reared before loping towards them. "I'm it! You better look out!" She called, mostly to the two fillies, and elicited an excited squeal from Rose before the snowy filly dove off to the side to avoid being tagged.

Seeing Tehya sprawled out in the sand without making an attempt to get up on her own, Aitumn pranced over and nudged his nose into her side. "Come on mimila, you'll get use to the sand eventually." Hopefully that spill wouldn't deter her confidence any, but he had no doubt that it was going to take some getting use to. Even though he could prance, sprint, and do all manners of manuvering in the sand now, he remember how early on that he had trouble doing such simple things as just running in it. He was surprised Rose seemed to be doing so well, but maybe she was just better at adjusting than Tehya was. The sleek stallion grinned as Cress turned towards them, and mockingly side-stepped away, tossing his head in all manner of playing. Hopefully the display would encourage their golden daughter not to give up.

She pondered being stubborn even after receiving encouragement from her father, seriously disliking the change of terrain and the weird ground that slid underneathe her hooves. Though when she saw her ute loping towards them, Tehya went wide eyed. Eep! She didn't want to be it! In a rush of hoof and legs, Tehya sprang unsteadily upright and half-hopped, half-ran in a direction away from her dam.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 11, 2009 4:19 pm

Rose squealed again as her dam barely missed her, and she half-cantered, half-stumbled to her sister's side. "Come on, Tehya-waru! Hurry, or ute will get us!" She said excitedly, trying to encourage her golden-bay tree-sibling not to give up on moving on the sand yet. Rose was having trouble, too, not just Tehya, but she wasn't giving up! Nope, not her! "Hurry up, riruy!" The pale filly called behind them. She didn't want him to get tagged, either! ...well, it would be better if he did than if she did, but still!

Good, that had gotten Tehya up and running, hadn't it? She'd adjust to the strange, shifting sands soon enough, it would be a few suns but she'd have lots of fun here, the gilded mare knew. With a grin, she set green eyes onto her mate and sprang into a lope after him, catching up to him after a moment and prodding his shoulder with her muzzle it. With a broad grin and a playful whinny she sprang away to the side, making sure he couldn't get her back right after she'd tagged him. "Riruy's it!" She shouted with a grin, cantering towards the pair of fillies.

Sulking didn't seem to get her anywhere, but apparently neither did trying to run in the sand. Augh, it was just so frustrating! Though... well, tag was fun anyway. She couldn't imagine not having fun with her family, so she supposed that was one positive thing about this trip to the wacky ground place called Quirne. "Haha, I'm NOT it!" she squealed cheerfully, now trying to head in the different direction from her father.

The blood bay felt the prod to his shoulder and knew he hadn't been quick enough in his escape. Heh, his fault for that one. "Alright then everyone, I'm it and the edge of the water is Safety!" he called. Meaning, to anyone who knew Aitumn's speed, the last one to the water's edge was likely going to be it. The Jala stallion pranced in place, sleek, powerful neck arched in play and tail flagged in high spirits. This certainly was fun, now to just pick off the slowest member and chase after it. A grin formed on his muzzle.

Uh-oh! It was always a race to see who got to safety first, and Tehya often times wasn't the first one to get there. Digging her heels into the sand, the golden dapple filly raced- well more like tripped and sprang, to try and get to the water's edge. Oh, why did she have to be so far away?
PostPosted: Sat Nov 21, 2009 2:41 pm

The gilded mare chuckled lightly and changed her direction slightly to head towards the water. She kept her pace at a slow canter, not wanting to rush ahead of the girls but not wanting to be the guaranteed last one there, either.

Rose giggled as their dam claimed their sire to be it, and as soon as he mentioned 'water' and 'safety' she quickly turned towards the water's edge and dug her heels into the sand before springing forward as fast as she could. "Hurry, Tehya!" She called as she half cantered, half stumbled towards safety. Why did it have to be so far away? "Hurry, or riruy will--oof!" Had she been paying more attention to where she was going, she might've noticed the sand slanted down and became firmer the closer they got to the water's edge. As it was, she didn't, and the sudden change made her stumble and land with a surprised squeal in a tangled mess.

With an amused chuckle, Cress slowed and nudged the snowy white filly with her muzzle before continuing on her way. "Better hurry and get back up on your hooves, mimila, before riruy tags you!"

Pale eyes widened as the filly gasped at that realization. Oh, no! She didn't want to be it! Especially since everyone would be in safety then! She struggled to hoist herself back onto her hooves, bits of dry sand stuck in her coat, and rushed as fast as she could towards the water's edge again.

The stallion certainly had his work cut out for him now that he had choose just who to go after. Either way, the stallion ground himself for but a moment, counting down in his head to give his family a headstart to the water's edge. One... two... three! Aitumn rocked back and shot forward in the sand, sparying a cloud of it behind him; luckily no one seemed to be directly behind him, otherwise they would have had a face full of it.

Seeing her sister fall alerted Tehya to the severe change ahead, and greatly helped her not to stumble as well. Although, her speed had turned to a crawl for the most part, but she was so very close to the water, and she really, really didn't want to fall down again.

He had already closed some of the distance when he spotted Rose stumble, fall, and get back up again. Good for her, Aitumn was rather proud neither of his daughters had given up tackling the sands, for even he remembered his first few awkward weeks trying to move around in it. But, that did make him so much closer to Rose. If he'd wanted to, the stallion could have dug his heels in and hurled himself faster with longer strides, and he could have easily caught up to either of his daughters, but he decided against it. After all, he didn't want them to feel bad for losing the game once everyone else would be in safety.

So, the stallion switched his gait from a gallop to a very showy, very movement oriented prance. Why? Because it gave the illusion of running, while in reality he was going much slower than before. Heh, he expected Cress to see through his little trick quite easily, but he was certain it would fool his daughters... for the most part.

As his family reached safety, Aitumn finally halted in front of them, blowing and tossing his forelock out of his face as if he had made a genuine effort to catch them. "Geez! Looks like I couldn't get here in time after all," he laughed.
