Fogmane peered into the cave curiously, taking a cautious step into it. It was roomy, but comfortable. There was more than enough room to stand in, and if he reared up, he could just scrape the ceiling with his claws and horns. So the space was big enough. Next he investigated the ceiling as best he could from the afternoon light. It appeared stable--it would be extremely unlikely for it to collapse, and the tunnel at the back of the cave could easily be blocked. Satisfied, Foggy nodded briskly and poked his head outside into the afternoon light. "It looks like a good place!" he called out to his mate.

Aine turned and smiled at the love of her life. Although that wasn't accurate...Lives on the other hand was. "I'd hoped so." she said going over and peering in. "I'd seen this spot before and sort of planned to bunker down here for awhile before I ran into you. I was getting so tired of sleeping out in the open." she looked up at her mate and nuzzled him. "I love you." she said before letting out a giggle. "Always."

She stayed close to him for a few minutes before peering back into the cave. Why don't you work on securing the back for now. Keep it open though...just in case we ever need a bolt hole. I'll go look for something for us to bed down on." she said giving him a lick before heading off to look for a pine or cedar tree to take branches from.

Foggy grinned and watched as his love peered into the cave. His love. His love for now and forever, for as long as he lived. He nuzzled her and peered into the cave again. It didn't seem as threatening as the term "cave" implied; instead, it was large, welcoming. He turned to smile at Aine. "I love you too," he laughed. "From now into eternity, Aine."

He wrapped his tail around her and nuzzled the torque around her neck, nibbling on ear, his eyes sliding around to look at the hearts spread across her body. She was beautiful...how could he have missed her all his life? It was destiny, he was sure. He licked Aine in return. "So would you like me to explore it? Or shall I just block it? If we have children, I don't want them to go wandering around and getting lost in there..." He followed Aine instinctively, not really realizing what he was doing.

Aine limped slightly and considered before blushing hard at the thought of children. She had a sudden flash of a bright smile like her own and wings to match his father's fur. She turned slightly and looked at her love. "Do...you....you know...want children?" she asked. "Now?" she blushed harder and giggled somewhat nervously the words just tumbling out of her mouth without much thought. "Because I'd be more than happy to give them to you." she said before squeaking at what she'd just said. "I mean...er...Yes, looking over the back of the cave sounds like a wonderful idea. You should do that and then decide if you want to close it." she said rather rushed.

She then looked around. "Oh, look a cedar tree!" she said changing the subject completely again and going over to the tree to collect boughs for bedding.

Foggy quickly stepped forward to his mate's injured side, brushing his side against hers. He had forgotten her ankle in the excitement of having a comfortable den. He blushed at her offer. "I...well...someday I'd like children...with you..." He gulped and shifted on his paws, wrapping his tail around her unconsciously. "I'm sure that we could make beautiful children together." Foggy leaned forward and nipped Aine's ears gently, purring softly.

He nodded when she changed the subject. "Right," he said, standing up. "I'll go, uh...explore that hole, shall I?" He turned away, flicking her with the end of his tail. As curious as he was about where the hole lead to, something told him to stay with Aine. Not a sense of foreboding, but a far more animal and base instinct that reached deep into his body. He wanted children. He wanted them quite a bit. As a father many times and a mate more often than that, he knew what he was feeling, and he allowed a wicked smile to grow on his face.

Aine nodded. "We did....once..." she said absently trying to remember her child. She then shook her head the memories to clouded to get a clear picture.

She then smiled as Foggy followed her subject change and went off to look at the back of the cave. As she watched him go she felt something shift within her. It was like a...well...she couldn't really describe it but everything she could remember from her past life told her what it was. She licked her lips and quickly gathered boughs and drug them back to the cave making several trips to make a comfortable bed. She then absently arranged them into a more nest like structure. She wasn't sure why she did it but she did know one thing. Foggy was in trouble when he got back...the good kind.

Foggy nodded and moved back to the cave, feeling somewhat disappointed. Oh well. I get to explore that hole, at least... He slipped into the cave and padded across the bare floor. He could almost imagine the children running amok through the cave, learning to defend themselves, sheltering from a storm...it was the perfect place to raise hatchlings. And he was confident that they would be as lovely as their parents.

Foggy smiled and took a sniff of the hole. He could smell fresh air--a good sign; perhaps this was a bolthole like Aine hoped. He squeezed into the hole, exploring the path in front of him as it led into a tunnel with his paws and nose. It got a little narrower for a stretch, but after not too long, it opened up further. Twitches of his tail determined that there were no side openings, and in due time he came to a tiny cave, the entrance screened by pine boughs. Foggy slipped out and trotted down a small, dried-up creekbed and around the hill to the main entrance.

Aine worked until her back foot was too sore to continue. She sat down in the center of the cave and looked around. It wasn't perfect, not yet, but it would do for the night and more than that it wouldn't get to torn up since if Aine knew anything it would be a long night with her mate.

She smiled to herself and fidgeted eager for Foggy to come back. Although she wasn't conscious of it, deep down part of her knew that tonight would be far more than just remembering and relearning all her lover's tricks.

Foggy padded back up to the cave, feeling restless. His curiosity satisfied, he was ready for a satisfaction on a deeper level than before. Just the thought of that made him blush from tail-tip to ear-tip, but he was honest enough to admit that it was the truth.

A few more pawsteps and Foggy ducked into their cave. The smell of the pine branches made him close his eyes delightfully, but even they were not as pleasant as Aine's scent. "Well, I explored the hole," he reported, sitting down next to her. "It leads out all right, no kinks or turns. There's a small cave on the other side that leads into a ravine--I haven't checked where the ravine goes, but it's a good bolthole like you said." Foggy leaned over and nipped Aine's ears. "So, are our chores done?"

Aine watched him enter a thrill going up her spine as she watched her mate. She shivered as he nipped at her ears. "Yes, more than done, I think." she said. "I'll have more to do tomorrow...but it can wait until tomorrow." she said moving closer to nuzzles against him. "Now I think something's on your mind, dearheart. Pray tell dare I say show me what it is?" she said playfully leaning up to n** at him.

"I missed you." she breathed into his ears. "Now remind me why." she purred.

Foggy purred and nuzzled Aine, the blood in his ears and neck pounding hard. He felt part of his mind shut down, and he welcomed the feeling. He began to lap at Aine's beautiful, graceful neck, around her ear and down her neck past her torque. "You're on my mind," he breathed between licks. "You've been on my mind for a long time."

He shivered and flicked his ears at her words. His mind all but closed shop at that point. He gave the world outside one last glance before he looked at his entire world. "I haven't seen you for so long in this life..." he whispered. "I have missed you so much...and I will remind us. Both of us."

Aine woke slowly the next morning, savoring the feel of a warm body next to hers. It had been so long since she'd awoken with someone it felt both strange and comforting at the same time. She murmured and leaned up to nuzzle at Foggy nipping lighlty at his ears before leaning back to watch him sleep. She shivered at thoughts of the night before and purred deep in her chest with a smug sense of satisfaction, although why she wasn't exactly sure.

She got up carefully and tested her back leg. It still hurt but it was feeling much better from the day before. She sighed and wondered if she'd be able to catch anything in her current state. She suddenly found that she was starving despite having caught fish the previous day. She bit her lower lip not really wanting to wake up Foggy but finding it hard to ignore the twinges of her stomach. She slowly moved over to him and nuzzled him harder. "Foggy....?"

Foggy woke just a slowly the next morning, though partially out of reluctance to wake up. He didn't want to move from his position, curled around Aine with one arm draped over her shoulder. He felt like he could sit there forever and never care, the warmth of his love against his heart where it belonged. With a lazy, concealed smile, he thought to last night. Everything was back in place; everything was where it belonged. Or nearly everything. Something was missing. Our son.

Foggy withdrew his arm sleepily as Aine got up, watching her through slitted eyes as he delved into his memories. He remembered her tan fur and his silver--but feathers? Had they been birds in another life? No, Aine had wings...that sounded right...their son had, too...It's all so confusing...I'm sure I could figure it out if I could just pin things down... He sighed and tried to go back to sleep. It was no use without her warmth against his heart. Where it belonged. He was almost relieved when she nudged him awake. "Yes, love?" he murmured.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 23, 2009 10:57 pm

Aine looked down at him eyes soft. "Did I wake you?" she asked gently before continuing. "I'm sorry if I did...Foggy...." she trailed off for a second feeling terribly helpless at the next part she had to say. "I'm...I'm hungry." she said. "And I don't think I can catch anything." she said. "Would you....please....?" she asked eyes begging. "Something with red meat...no fish please. A rabbit or two would be fine...or a young doe or buck...just....please...?" she asked pleadingly not really knowing why she needed to eat so badly, just knowing she needed it now.

Foggy shook his head. "It's quite all right, Aine. I was awake anyway." He got up and stretched, nodding. "Of course I can get you something!" He leaned over and nuzzled Aine. "Catching rabbits is instinctive to me, I'll bring you back a couple. They will make a good breakfast," he added, smiling at her before trotting out. Outside, he could see the sun rising above the surrounding mountain peaks--it was beautiful, turning the lingering snow on the very tips of the tallest ones into glowing pink gemstones, the valley filled with a pale gold light. A lovely morning to be out and about.

The day seeming brighter than any day since he had hatched, he raced off into the woods, searching out a nice warren of rabbits.
