Why he had ever allowed his familiar and watcher to coax him into entering that ridiculous dating service, Answayth could not recall. And then he'd gotten a missive stating that a match had been found - at least she was of his species! Had she been anything but a P'an Lun, the Serpent Mage would likely have rejected the match.
Protested it greatly, at the very least.
Just his luck then that a suitable P'an Lun female had been found. Sakura. Exotic sounding name, he recalled vaugely that the word meant some sort of blossom in one of those odd Asiatic languages. Perhaps he could ask her which blossom?
Answayth left his familiar back in his cavern, preferring to make this attempt without any additional eyes peering in. He had not been with much female company for many a year - not since his youth, when he had just begun the study of ancient grimmorie and the Arcana - and was probably painfully rusty when it came to niceties.
The service had suggested a fairly neutral place with water available and beasts of prey to hunt, should food be required. Annie went early to do a small bit of spell-casting and also so that he could hunt before hand. Females did not always like to have to work for a meal when one was - for lack of a better set of terms - taking them out on a date.
Tender ptarmigan, warmed with magic, and an assortment of fruits would be waiting for Sakura on delicately worked Jade. An offering. Waiting...

This was certainly a rather interesting turn of events in Sakura's quiet life. Her many days of just painting with her familiar for a companion and at times a model was soon disturbed when her watcher had come calling and suggest she sign up at a dating service. She had asked to be given a period of time to consider what she would be getting herself into.
Finally Sakura had decided that something new in her life wouldn't be a bad thing and she promptly filled out the form and sent in a self portrait of herself. It was then she found herself facing her watcher again who stood gleefully by as if ready to explode on the spot when Sakura asked her to just spill it out. That incident ruined a rather nice painting of a serene view out her window.
So here Sakura was on her way to this location that was suggested by the dating service. Her watcher and familiar had both made sure she was presentable and with that headed off towards this location that was suppose to supply them with necessities.
"So he's a fellow p'an lun," she mused. That would help. She was more comfortable around her kind. Other species where a little too energetic or disruptive. Another p'an lun would understand her better and would not overwhelm her.
Stepping into a small clearing she sighed softly. The scene was lovely and she found a mouth watering assortment of fruits and prepared ptarmigan waiting. Her blind date had gone to some lengths to have everything ready a head of time. She checked herself and then came out of the trees some more. A few blossoms from her horn drifted about her.

Answayth's scaled-and-secured cloak rustled as his body shifted, snaking a little ways out of the tree-line. A female with blossoms instead of horns stepped out of the trees -- that must be Sakura. She seemed...pleased.
Excellent, he had not been wrong in taking the time for thought and preparation. Perhaps females were more like his spells than he knew? The Serpent Mage threaded magic through the spells he had cast earlier, activating them fully so that as she came closer the softly glowing lights would flicker prettily for her.
Behind his mask and fittings, the pitch colored dragon was not so shy so he stepped forward to greet Sakura; his opalescent markings and multi-hued cloak picking up the light and shimmering as he moved.
"Greetings. Are you--" He paused and settled onto his haunches, tail coiling behind him in an arch, before continuing. "You must be Sakura. So named for your blossoming horns."

As Sakura moved further out into the clearing she was given a beautiful light show as softly glowing lights appeared around her. She gasped in delighted surprise and then noticed a movement out of the corner of her eye. Her gaze turned upon the male p'an lun that showed himself.
With an artist's eye she thoroughly appeased his appearance. She was in the presence of a magic user, a mage. He certainly had a way about himself and how he used his magic and it pleased her. She took in all the images before and an hid them away for a rainy day of painting.
He then spoke to her. She took note that he too knew her name and she smiled softly at him. "Greetings. I am indeed Sakura. Rightly named for the cherry blossoms which grow upon my horns. And you must me the mage, Answayth. I must say....I'm very delighted by what you've done here." Again her smile caressed her lips as she praised him.
A suddenly shyness came over her as she wasn't at all sure of how to behave around him. His profile was rather...interesting and she did not want to offend him. She hadn't prepared herself at all for the result of sending in that form. She took in a breath and looked up at him. He was so handsome and his attire was...she at a loss for words. The garment was stunning. She was hesitant but then spoke," That cloak...did you make it?" she inquired.

He seemed to turn what she said over in his mind as though committing something to memory. "Ah, so it was a cherryblossom." There, he hadn't been wrong - just forgetful. And who could blame him for neglecting to remember the precisetype of bloom meant by some Asiatic language when his acute intellect was better spent remembering complicated and often dangerous spellcasting rites?
She had come into the clearing with a bit of confidence, but before him she seemed to grow smaller...unsure of herself. Answayth's masked head tilted a bit as he watched Sakura gather herself again.
"Indeed. Much work went into it. Magic and otherwise." He wouldn't mention the numerous mythical beasts required in various sacrifice for his cloak - deep-sea serpents were not common and the details of such things absolutely not for a lady's ears. At least, not on a first date fated out to happen by some deranged matchmaker.
"Come, you must be hungry..." Anything to help ease the awkwardness he felt. The P'an Lun spent the better part of his life without other's company; he was finding it difficult to make small-talk and to not be his usual abrasive self.

Sakura merely acknowledge the small bit of info on the lovely garment with a slight incline of her graceful head and a smile which softened her features even more so. She noted that she must get him to elaborate more on the garment for it was indeed a work of art and pure genius.
When Answayth called attention to their meal he had caught and prepared ahead of time her smile widened and she rose and moved quietly towards the meal. The delicious smells of the meat and fruit caressed her senses as she slowly took in breath somewhat unwilling to let it out but did in hopes of snatching another breath of the aroma.
"Oh this looks absolutely divine Answayth," she murmured. The pupils of her eyes had dilated as it took in the feast. She had of course made sure to take of a light snack before coming so that she didn't make herself to look like a starving artist. Not that she was, but sometimes when one was so deep into their art it's hard to come out of it til you reach a stopping point or the piece is finished. Thus at times she went without sleep and food and it showed painfully. Luckily tonight she had only been dabbling in small works and nothing extravagant. She looked like the picture of health and her blossoms bloomed of vibrant color.
Sakura sat down and looked upon the feast and then glanced up at Answayth. "Shall I start?" she cooed at him.

The finer points to stalking, capturing, killing and skinning mythical beasts with spells, fang and claw would have to wait for another night. Answayth was unlikely to discuss such things with his peers, let alone a lady whom he had only known a few short minutes.
Mages preferred to keep their secrets close; it was part of what made them quite successful at what they did.
"I'm glad you approve." The Serpent Mage rumbled the words and shifted his body so that he was better able to remain attentive to the blossom-graced female while they ate. "Please, help yourself Sakura."
The soft lights flickered and floated around them slowly as the sun set; vibrant ruddy-purple colours flavored the lights and the sky darkened all but where they were. Fireflies began their own little rituals; their smaller lights flickering almost in sync with the magic-wrought orbs. Beautiful dinner planned for a beautiful lady. Answayth was quite pleased with himself for selecting this location as opposed to one of the others that had been suggested.

A slight thrill went up her spine as he said her name after encouraging her to help herself to the amazing feast before her. A faint tinge of pink colored her dark cheeks as she picked out a couple pieces of aromatic meat, and some colorful fruit.
She smiled at him and took a bite of her choices and made a delighted sound as the flavors clashed brilliantly in her mouth awakening her tastes buds. Sakura savored each bite. All the flavors flowing over her tongue. She swallowed and gazed up at the handsome mage. "Answayth...this is so delightful. It tastes as good as it smells...." she practically cooed at him.
Looking away not wanting to stare at him she gazed at the setting around her. Her artist eye taking in every shape and color, every emotion, the smells, how she felt. The painting her mind created made her sigh with contentment. Surely this was the best evening she's had all her life and it was brought to her in such a....interesting way. A blind date.
"This truely feels like it was meant to be.....I'm rather....delighted to have filled out that silly form my watcher gave me." She murmured quietly but still loud enough for Answayth to hear.

Observant as Annie could be, it wasn't really needed with Sakura. She seemed to have no problems enjoying her meal and commenting as such...which pleased the Serpent Mage greatly. He was surprised to find that he was taking a good bit of enjoyment from this evening - and with a strange P'an-lun met through filling out some stupid little survey!
He kept the conversation light while they ate, but didn't shy away from intelligent questions or answers, for that matter. Eventually, the lightening bugs would begin to settle in with their mates for the evening, and the orbs surrounding them would grow faded, dimmer (after all, he hadn't expected to enjoy himself so much - or for so long - so he hadn't expended enough energy that the orbs would only dissipate when he un-threaded the magic).
"Yes..." He rumbled and snaked his head to look at her; mask finally having come off sometime during dinner, only to be tucked and fastened into his cloak conveniently. "I've enjoyed this...more than I had expected..."
All good fairy tales had to come to an end. Answayth found himself asking if he could see her again...and if he could accompany her home. Purely gentlemanly, that one. One walked - or flew - their lady home, yes?

Sakura daintily licked, as best as one could, her lips in satisfaction of a great meal. She had been careful to not make a slob of herself even though she wasn't really one to begin with. But she felt the evening was coming to a close and so she refrained from eating anything more having had her fill. Her warm smile was freely given as she looked upon Answayth again. Her eyes glowed in the dim lighting and seem to sparkle too.
The food, company, and conversation was much to her delight and to think it was with this handsome serpent mage. She never thought that such an event would happen since she was one to hole herself up in her room most of the time painting away and not coming out til she had something to show for herself. And she may end up in there again soon to paint out her wonderful evening under the color streaked sky.
Sakura's gaze had slid away from him again as she gazed to the darkened sky, seeing the first stars lighting it up. Her ear twitched as she heard Answayth ask to see her again and to accompany to her home. She refrained from lighting up too eagerly for she didn't want to scare him off. She enjoyed his company and didn't want the night to end too soon.
"Yes...I'd enjoy it if you accompanied me home. And I'd be delighted to meet with you again as well," she said softly keeping her tone even and lowered.

With Sakura's soft agreement and his own bemused pleasure at her acceptance, the two P'an-lun dragons would not have to spend much time on a "clean-up"; a few lowly called words and a bit of tingly-to-the-skin spell-casting and it would be whisked away.
Being a mage was a very good thing, indeed.
Once all that was taken care of, the dark-scaled Painter would accompany his date back to her place; exchange a few pleasantries and perhaps a quick brush of his snout against hers in a gentlemanly fashion...and then he would be off with the promise that they would see each other at least once more.
