The most difficult thing about a family that constantly changes within a few months was that plans always had to be revised. Adjustments had to be made, and for man like Donovan, sometimes it was a down right pain in the arse.

There actually had been a debate on whether or not Kara should come, mainly because she was six months along, and there was a high risk she could give birth in the Borderlands because no one really knew if she was six months along or more. Partly becaue the last visit kind of messed it up a bit, which was why Kara was staying here. It was very difficult for Yukito to convert elvish months into solar months and then try to figure out how much time his mother had spent there. Over all, it was better for her to stay home, even though Donovan had full trust in Ulani if anything happened well... he rather not push it.

Miyu on the other hand, had grown (finally) into a young lovely teenager. A young lovely teenager who's uncle and father had interned around her age. So it wasn't a surprise when she decided to do the same thing, it was however a surprise when she decided she was going to help out with the children as a healer. Not that he could complain, this was a good thing... they needed and she needed to learn to be more social. Besides it was weird to see a six foot angel still skittering every once in a while.

Then there was Lin, Lin was the joy and somewhat bane of his existence. Unlike the mer twins he had never been prepared to have Lin grow up as quickly as she had, which was why he (grungingly) gave training rights over to Vincent. As much as he hated to admit it, he was going to have to arrange for Lin to take shifts with another fighter on the Ranch, because she was going to need the experience (not that she hadn't been tailing Elros on his shifts but that was besides the point).

Though Vincent actually told him to take her on a Hunt, he really wanted to deck his cousin for that suggestion.

Even if he was right.

At least, Donovan thought as he looked over to where the mer twins were, Feng happily bouncing Naida in her arms. At least some people never change... sort of.

"Alright everyone," he called out, "Into the portal, Lin your weapons."
Lin gave him a look that said of course, "Sword, knvies, bow and arrows, and yes I do know how to know how to use those. Stop worrying, you'll give yourself wrinkles."
"I really didn't need to hear that from you."

She smiled sweetly at him that suggested maybe Lin has been spending a bit too much time with his mother. Donovan didn't really want to think about it, as he shoved her through the door

It was early autumn in the Borderlands, and the trees were just beginning to turn shades of gold. The sun shone brightly, and the air was filled with the sounds of nature: wind whispering gently through the trees, birds calling to each other, taking flight, squirrels chattering ...

And then, suddenly, a faint scraping sound behind a nearby tree. Hiding behind the tree was a little elven boy. He was young - very young - but the way in which he was hiding so skilfully and so silently showed that despite his age, he knew his way in the woods. Dark blue eyes watched the group that had suddenly arrived, his dusky face framed by golden blond hair with a black streak down one side.

He had a feeling he knew who these people were ... he had heard stories about them ... though he had never seen them before.

Feng bounded through taking in the sights and sounds, it looks like they made it just in time... barely. She turned and grinned at the rest of her family.

"We're heading off to Aliya's now," she grinned at Lin and Miyu, "Have fun!"

Naida who managed to snag a falling leaf waved as well, "Bye bye!"

She giggled and stuck the leaf into her hair.

"Don't you two forget to visit Cindy later as well," Ryu reminded the girls, "Since she's living here now and it has to have been much longer for her."

Donovan nodded at this, "Fine, behave, especially you."

He pointed to Feng.. or Naida, or perhaps both. For a little child that was supposedly not related to Feng, the little girl was far too much like her mother for his own comfort.

Lin laughed at that as she dragged her father in the direction of the Ranch, "Come on Dad, these two new people Triton were talking about are here too, and I want to see who is taking the children home now that Elros is in the Eastland."

"I swear... you live in the barricks nearly half the time," he muttered as he went along now down to three.

The little boy watched as the group split up and headed in two different directions. He wanted to follow both of them ... but of course he couldn't. But he couldn't make up his mind which group he wanted to follow now ...

But the bouncy lady had mentioned someone he knew very well ...

With an impish grin, he decided that he would follow the man and the woman and the little girl. Just to prove he could.

He held back a giggle and zipped after them, dodging behind tree after tree, bare feet silent on the grass ... though from time to time he rustled the leaves that were collected on the ground.

The twins (and Naida) always looked forward to a visit with Aliya, mainly because of her children. Even though they were no longer children, which was a bit of a pity. Feng especially was very fond of Adan.

During their walk, Naida would sometimes beg for a particular leaf she saw making a small bouquet of fall leaves which she waved around. Every once in a while Ryu would pause, there was rustling, but it wasn't often and it could have been easily an animal of some sort.

"Hmm...."

He tilted his head a bit before looking back at the direction they were going.

He also wondered how Tao was doing, she had to be incredibly old by now...

"Here we are!" his thoughts were cut sort by Feng's voice.
"Door!"
"You're hands are full," he pointed out, "You're not going to be able to open the door."

Fortunately, the debate came to an end when the door opened seemingly of its own accord, meaning that neither twin had to worry about it. It was Amdir who stood in the doorway, a coil of rope in hand and a grin on his face.

"Well now," he chuckled, "isn't this a surprise." He laughed and stood to one side. "Come on in. I'm supposed to be heading over to the ranch, but it can wait a while."

He blinked suddenly, seeing something behind them, and laughed again. "It looks like you've caught yourself a tail," he chuckled, nodding towards the yard, where the little boy was crouched underneath the yard table.

"A tail?" Naida looked at hers.

Probably the wrong thing to say to a little mermaid, she took things a bit literary at times.

Feng looekd behind her and giggle, all the while resisting the urge to pounce on the boy. He was so cute!

"Hello there," she called out ot the boy.
"Who's that?" Ryu inquired.

The last time he had checked all the children were grown up except for Rhea at the time of course.

The little boy giggled and scooted out from under the table, then ran to Amdir and just about tackled his legs, then held up his hands to be picked up. "Hold me, Grandpapa!" he giggled.

Amdir chuckled and lifted the boy into his arms. "Feng, Ryu, Naida," he grinned, "our first and only grandson." He poked the boy's cheek gently. "Introduce yourself."

The boy giggled and touched his forehead with two fingers. "Ecthelion!" he beamed. "Nice to meet you!"

Feng giggled at that, he was so cute, "Hello Ecthelion, it is really nice to meet you."

She wanted to reach out and ruffle his hair.

"Who are the lucky parents?" though Ryu already had a guess, he wanted Amdir to confirm it.

For that matter was there another house around here then?

Amdir chuckled, his expression proud. "Adanedhel and Rose," he said warmly. "They've been living in the same house where Elnara and Lore lived, and Arwen and Roydon, ever since Arwen and Roydon left ... give or take a few weeks. Ecthelion, tell Grandmama's friends how old you are."

The boy giggled and played with the strings of his tunic. "Five."

"Aww... so cute," Feng squealed a bit.

Somehow she wasn't surprised seeing how much those two spent together. Well as Aliya had told them it was either Adan or Adoni, but it wasn't surprising it was Adan.

Ryu chuckled at that, "So Aliya was right, it looks like we have a lot of catching up to do."

Amdir grinned at Ryu and nodded. "A lot of catching up to do indeed," he agreed. "So stop standing on the porch and come inside and sit down." He laughed and moved aside to let them in. "She'll be glad to see you."

"Happy to see you," Ecthelion echoed in agreement, grinning at Feng, his dark blue eyes filled with laughter.

Ryu laughed as he stepped inside along with Feng.

"We're coming..." he looked around.

Made him wonder how the other 'children' were doing.

Aliya was in the kitchen with Alyse, and the two women (for Alyse was far too grown up to be considered a girl anymore) were chatting happily while they washed the dishes together. As soon as they heard Ryu's voice, however, Aliya was drying her hands and rushing into the living room to greet their friends.

"Ryu!" she squealed, almost pouncing on him and hugging him tightly. "It's so good to see you again!" Then she turned and hugged Feng and Naida together, giggling giddily. "It's been so long! How have you been? Come in, come in, are you hungry? Can we get you anything?"

Ecthelion giggled at his grandmother and climbed up to sit on Amdir's shoulder. "See?" he grinned self-righteously at Ryu. "Happy to see you!"
