January 109

The adolescent wolf tiptoed through the tall mound of snow, pausing to sniff the air now and then. The myriad of late spring scents combined into a sweet aroma, a delicious succulence that made her smile, made her want to run, to jump, to laugh out loud. Shaking her head slowly, she focused again. She could smell her close at hand. Her scent was warm, invigorating, like clothes dried in the sunshine.

Chehero caught the swaying grass off to her left as she pretended not to notice Feathermist's proximity. The nearly twenty year-old girl sighed and tried to concentrate on her books. ‘Six more weeks, Chehero. You can do it! Concentrate!’ It was a very real concern to her, the length at which she had not seen an attack from the centipedes.

Flicking her white-pink hair over her shoulder as she leaned in closer to her books, Chehero Asakaur frowned in concentration as she absently fingered the edge of the book she was reading. Funny how plans change. Chehero sighed and closed the book with a loud snap. Rolling her slender shoulders to alleviate the tension below her neck, Chehero sighed and let her head fall back, absently noting how nice the warm sun felt on her skin. With an exaggerated gasp of surprise as a blurry ball of giggling fuzz landed in her lap, Chehero hugged Feathermist's head.

“I’m getting better, huh?” she demanded, her eyes bright, proud of her own ability to stalk her prey: in this case, Chehero.

“Absolutely,” she agreed, giving Feathermist another quick cuddle before the young wolf pulled her head out of her arms and turned to glance over to the distance. Something was moving-

[OoC: So is her last name AsakAUr or AsakUAr?]

Stardust strolled through the grass casually, enjoying the spring-like weather that had bestowed itself upon them after a month of nonstop snow. No doubt the warmth would not last long and the winter cold would return shortly, but that wasn't a reason not to enjoy the pleasant day. That and she had been so busy keeping her human's mind on track that she hadn't had the time to interact with the pack as much. There were some new faces that she had yet to acquaint herself with, as did Riya.

Riya walked alongside her wolf, taking long strides to keep up with the Alpha who was already stepping slower than usual. But the pace was familiar as they often walked side-by-side - riding was only necessary if they need to reach their destination quickly, or if they were sent to New Eve to deliver one of Shizuka's strange packages. The memory of the acidic green gloop brought a shiver to the young Lieutenant, deciding she wouldn't be visiting the former Captain any time soon. One nightmare was enough.

"Who did you say we're going to see?"

Feathermist and her Chehero Asakuar. A delicate sniff of the air informed Stardust that she was heading in the right direction, that the pair were nearby. Finding the pup had been easy since she always knew where her wolves were, but it was nice to know the human was with her.

"Asakuar," Riya mumbled to herself, trying to recall what bio had been attached to that name. One of the girl's parents had been a wolfrider here, if she recalled correctly, the girl had practiced medicine for a short awhile, and now the apprentice of Vala and Feathershroud. Beyond that, nothing of interest had captured Riya's attention - her performance review from the Drill Sergeant had been like anyone else's.

There they are, the Alpha announced as the apprentice pair came into sight. Stardust watched with amusement as the pup pounced onto her human, remembering her own rambunctious ways when was she was younger.

"Hm..." came the thoughtful response from Riya as they continued to make their way to Chehero and Feathermist.

{OoC: shoot sorry sometimes I am not watching how I type that name its AUr}

Ears twitching like little radars on her head, Feathermist then proceeded to sniff the air. The familiar sent of the alpha pulled the adolescent to face the direction of which the pair were walking. No doubt Chehero had not met the alpha nor the human which accompanied the powerful wolf. "What is it Feather?" Being human, Chehero found herself dependent on her companions great sense of smell and hearing. Turning her gaze to look at the direction Feathermist was looking towards.

It's the Alpha, Stardust, and her human. But why are they coming way out here. We aren't out of bounds are we? The questions fluttered themselves like leaves into Chehero's mind giving the young adult something to mull over.

There was no way they could be out of bounds, at least she was sure they weren't. She was used to coming this far out of the fort, she had been doing this since she was very small. Having grown up here she quickly learned the places that she was free to roam. But Feathermist did bring up a good point, why was the Lieutenant coming here? "You didn't go and tick off Stardust did you?"

A deep huff escaped Feathermist as she looked back towards Chehero, I know better than to get under the alpha's foot. She snapped, her ears laying back against her head as she looked back towards the pair. Do you think that we should go and meet them? Taking a step forward and stopping abruptly she looked back at Chehero, she could feel the insecurity that coursed through her human. Over their short time together she had learned Chehero wasn't very good with conversation, and try as she might, always managed to get the wrong message across.

"Can't we just sit and pretend we don't see them?" Chehero placed the medical book she was reading back on the ground. Leaning back against the tree they were by. She didn't know Riya, actually she had never met the girl before even after her time at the fort since returning with Feathermist.

[OoC: Lol, no worries. I just wanted to make sure I certed her correctly. =P]

Riya knew the pair had seen them, not only because wolves were naturally in tune with their environment but the girl had looked this way, so she was slightly surprised that they hadn't jumped to their feet in greeting of some sort. The fact didn't bother her so much as it amused her, since having been raised by the (in)famous Captain Shizuka, she had been drilled the ways of the military since a young age (thankfully not as harshly as what Damien had suffered). Vaguely, Riya wondered if the girl's lack of reaction was attributed to uncertainty in her new rank or simply a shy nature.

Only one way to find out, the wolf responded as they neared the young pair. Stardust approached with a relaxed form as she had never been very aggressive or domineering towards the pups, though she never lost the usual straight ears and lifted tail that accompanied her every move. The white scarf was wrapped around her neck and the end thrown over her shoulders in a royal fashion, as per usual. Feathermist, she called in a pleasant tone once they were near, tail swaying in a slightly playful manner.

"Chehero Asakaur," came Riya's greeting, a question though it sounded more like a commanding statement. They had come to a stop a mere few feet away from the relaxed pair, and the young Lieutenant quietly awaited the formalities that would (and should) pass. But she also took the opportunity to look over the young wolf, noting with interest the shoulder accessory, leg wrapping, and especially the laurel headdress - the pup looked rather cute.

I'm much cuter.

Of course you are.

{OoC: awe lol, sorry I will try to better watch what I am typing.}

A sudden chill raced up her spine as the sun disappeared, obscured by a head she couldn’t see. The brightness of the sun behind her cast a blackness over her expression, and, tilting her head back to stare into the darkness where a face should have been, she felt her lips turn up in an impish smile. “And here I was hoping they would walk right on by.” Stuffing her books into her bag she quickly found herself following protocol. Standing strait with her one arm raised to her head in a salute, her feet shoulder width apart. "Morning, Lieutenant." At this point Chehero would be left up to the orders of her higher ranking officer. Trying to refrain from looking back at Feathermist.

The young pup had managed to do quiet well recently, the ability for the young wolf to talk seemed to almost come overnight. When they had first met she didn't seem to understand her words only her movements. Though over the course of the next few weeks, as both human and wolf became accustomed to the feeling of each other Feathermist learned quickly. Especially how to communicate and her personality couldn't help but make Chehero laugh.

When Chehero had first bonded with the young pup, she had taken her back to her room and while gathering up her things came across the old emblems her mother used to put on her wolf. Feeling a sense of attachment to the past she then put them on Feathermist, who didn't seem to mind the gifts but found it odd that not many of the wolves seemed to have such expensive gifts. Not to mention they were a real pain to keep polished during the wet seasons.

"You must be joking, they obviously came out here for something, Chehero."
Feathermist bounded forward towards Stardust, her ears pushed back against her head. Reaching near enough in front of the Alpha Feathermist tucked in her tail to approach her the rest of the way finally rolling on her stomach in a 'play-with-me?' sort of way. Her tail swinging heavily from side to side, "Good morning Stardust!." Feathermist playfully greeted the wolf with excitement, finding herself needing to pull away from Chehero's mind as the girls uneasiness was starting to rub off on her.

[OoC: Trust me, you're nowhere near half as bad as Shikai. XD]

Riya had to hide the smile that threatened to spread over her face at Chehero's expression changes. She personally wasn't very good at reading people - which she also found to be a waste of effort since she'd simply ask if she really wanted to know what another person was thinking or feeling - so it was always amusing to watch the more obvious facial features when they did open up. That and she respected anyone who was quick to follow protocol, especially an apprentice.

Taking the time to look the new apprentice over, Riya noted that the girl was rather short - she was usually one or two inches taller than the average woman already, but Chehero was unusually short in her eyes. Trivial details though since the skill of a wolfrider wasn't determined by physical appearance. However, Riya couldn't help but admire the odd hair coloring, deciding that the pink on white looked girly but cute. The thought had her thinking back on to whether or not she had brushed her hair properly this morning...

Nodding in acknowledgement at the apprentice's salute and greeting, Riya offered a friendly smile. "About time we met," she responded, and then extended a hand to Chehero for the girl to shake - also to signify that any strict formalities could be dropped. She'd always found that when you wanted to acquaint yourself with someone, peer level allowed a better glimpse into the person's true personality; acting as a superior officer usually only made the other nervous or formal, neither of which was very interesting.

Stardust ignored the human interaction as they never interested her. The wolf bounded forward in a short leap, playfully nuzzling her nose into the pup's cheek. A soft growl rumbled through her throat, but there was no aggression in the noise, only an invitation to romp. Nipping Feathermist's ear softly, Stardust then jumped back and flicked her tail in a frolicsome manner.

Given recent events, Stardust had had little time to no time for play, so it was a nice change for her to relax and let loose. With a soft bark, the large wolf circled the pup coyishly as if stalking a prey and waited to see how Feathermist would react. Playing like this was as much a good way for the young ones to learn and train, as it was a method for the Alpha to determine a wolf's nature.

{OoC: oh dear that's not to good }

Feathermist rolled quickly back onto her stomach watching the older wolf with interest, as she was nuzzled by Stardust. Her tongue snaking out to lick the side of her upper lip, both ears laid back against her head in thought. Sapphire eyes still watching in an attempt to determine the movements of the Alpha, her left ear flicking forward towards the alpha and back again. Almost as if she were confused at the playful manner the alpha had come into, she quickly brushed it off and burst forward letting out another bark. Her tail wagging like a small puppy getting the chance to play with a ball, she nipped playfully at Stardust's foot.

Quickly jumping back with a playful bark again she jumped to the left, made a mock run and jumped back to the right bursting forward once again to n** Stardusts foot. Having figured the second time the alpha would have seen that coming she moved to that her but was now facing the alpha. Her tail now wagging in a 'you-can't-catch-me' way, this game she often goaded Chehero into and was very successful at it.

On the other hand Chehero's face quickly grew into puzzlement at the tall woman before her. She felt like a miniature dwarf, at least Riya was friendly. Not like her drill sergeant back at the academy, oh how she wished she could one day just give it back to him. Snapping back to attention when Riya spoke, finding herself automatically meeting hands with the higher ranking officer letting her stance relax into something more casual. "Y-yeah I guess..." Chehero stuttered not really knowing what to say, she had never been in the situation before, and still slightly nervous she was going to be scolded for something,

"I am sorry if I wandered to far, I-i made sure we were within the ranges of hearing in case of an emergency." Chehero wasn't sure if she really needed to appologize. Seeing as there was no way that she and Feathermist would have been any use to the fort, being still the apprentice under her patrons watch. Not to mention Feathermist was still much to young to even ride, though that didn't stop them from having drill classes randomly called by Vala, her patron.

((OOC: hope you don't mind me jumping in the other rp seem a little to daunting. Thanks for the great starter to work with.))

Dave pulled the book off the shelf and scowled in concentration as he leafed through it. On the one hand, he wondered if he weren’t being a little short-sighted in thinking that finding some kind of answer as to why Sandra couldn’t carry a baby to term might help. On the other hand, it might exacerbate the situation, too, given that there wouldn’t be any way of reversing whatever caused it. Still maybe it would be comforting for his sister just to know that she wasn’t the only woman with the problem. Dave only wished he could do more.

His first thought this morning when he awoke in his bed was that he ought to go back right away. Sandra would be saying goodbye to Hideaki at sunset. His next thought had been that RapidCloud hadn’t come after him in the night, and with that realization had come a feeling of complete melancholy. He sighed. How selfish was he, to think of something as silly as that when his dear sister was suffering so much?

Shaking his head with irritation he stuffed the book back into the shelf and turned to leave. Grabbing his white uniform off the rack by the door he pulled it on using one hand to button up the shirt while the other one opened the door. "You headed back to see your sister?" The all to familiar voice of Rapidcloud echoed in his mind forcing a sigh.

"And what of it cloud?" Those very words seemed to bring the wolf out of the tree lines towards the older man.

"Well I can't let you leave, spring has come. We need to be busy defending the forts and the main city from the centipedes not to mention you and I both know we wont survive the travel alone with their threat so close." To Dave it the words sounded more like a lecture to anyone else standing nearby the words would be a growl.

What did he care of the centipieds? He and Rapidcloud had been fighting them for years, "then you can stay here." The older wolf growled snapping at the human.

[OoC: Naw, Shikai's just too lazy to correct anything, lol. And Gymn, I'm assuming your characters are nearby.]

Stardust was amused by the pup's courage as the young one dashed forward and nipped at her foot. She lowered her ears and feigned defense, eyes still sparkling with playfulness. Lowering her head to watch the darting movements, she expected the next lunge but didn't move, simply pushing her snout lightly to tap Feathermist's head as the youngster approached the second time.

The Alpha had to admit, the pup was already very good with pulling strategies. Most wolves took a few months to learn anything beyond the simple wolf instincts of hunting, and it was always nice to see a few that stood out from the pack. Now wanting to test Feathermist's speed and endurance, Stardust let out a challenging bark in response to the youngster's supposed invitation to play chase. Bounding forward, she faked a lunge and stopped a foot short of the tan adolescent, snapping her jaws once before taking off at a quick trot.

Stardust had noticed Rapidcloud in the distance, one of her less liked wolves since he was a little too flamboyant for her tastes - he always ended up stealing her spotlight. But it would do for Feathermist to acquaint herself with the pack, so the Alpha headed in the male's direction. Her head flicked back only momentarily, releasing a yip that called for Feathermist to follow.

Playful barks reached her ears, causing Riya to tilt her head slightly in the direction of the wolves, watching with mild interest as they romped. It was always refreshing to see Stardust revert back to such frolicsome behavior especially since she was usually so composed - except when Ember was involved, the cases of which seemed to have increased as of late; then again, that should've been expected given the adolescent's new reveleation of rank. The news had spread like wildfire through the Fort and there had been some controversy, but nobody dared deny the wolves.

Returning her attention back to the young apprentice, Riya raised a delicate eyebrow at the girl's stutter - she wasn't that intimidating, was she? Some of the wolfriders still found it rather appropriate to be.. well, inappropriate with her, but nothing too out of hand (and usually in a playful manner anyways). But the Lieutenant smiled slightly at Chehero's explanation, remembering that she herself had been just as uncertain of herself the first month in the fort. They always grew out of it.

"Nothing like that," Riya reassured the girl with a kind smile, pulling her hands casually behind her back as she looked around. The scenery was quite nice, almost like it was really spring, but there was still a week or two left of winter. So the wolfriders weren't on-call for another week or so. "Still winter, so you're allowed to roam wherever you want.. unless you have orders otherwise from your Patron. But we usually don't meddle in Patron-Apprentice affairs until you're ready to ride."
PostPosted: Fri Feb 20, 2009 1:05 pm

Feathermist lowered her head and kicking off with her hind feet burst forward to keep up with the alpha. Her whole body seemed to move like a ribbon being trailed behind in the air. Being a small pup it was hard for her to keep up with Stardust as she wasn't as big and thus her legs didn't quite span the length, the alpha could. Speed wasn't her best area, as quick thinking and stamina were starting to develop into her strong points. She was so busy keeping up a game of tag with the alpha she hadn't even noticed they were headed right for another wolf she had yet to meet.

Finding herself caught in the trance of the playful wolves Chehero could only smile. The game and rate at which the wolves played with one another only made her wish she were one of them. Forgetting she was standing in front of Riya when the wolves eventually moved out of sight she jumped once the tall girl caught her eye. She had completely not heard a thing the lieutenant said and, figuring it best she not let her know Chehero merely nodded.

It would be a long time before Chehero would be able to ride, being a fresh apprentice in the white shadow fort. Not to mention Feathermist was only three months old and still had so much growing in front of her to complete.

Rapidcloud growled in annoyance at Dave, You won't make it back in time and I really don't feel like running their and back for your sake. Besides there are just to many girls here for me to keep occupied. Straitening his head in the direction of Stardust and Feathermist Rapidcloud continued. Speaking of the lovely girls here comes one, no make that two there is a new one if the fort. Completely abandoning Dave to his own devises the male wolf pranced forward, his whole body bobbing up and down with every foot step.

Upon reaching the Alpha and what he assumed was her pup he properly greeted Stardust. Sitting down on his haunches he curled his tail around his body and front paws, carefully watching the elegant caremel pup. Why hello Stardust, what bring you and your pup my way. Letting his toungue loll out in a pant he couldn't help but smile at the pair. It wasn't often you saw the alpha romping about with anyone.

Dave watched in stunned silence as Rapidcloud hurried up the hill away from their house, and himself. He had been irritated beyond belief when he’d asked for help from his wolf only to find that he had been utterly rejected. He’d been left alone at the house while his rather one tracked wolf had taken off towards what had been preciously mentioned female wolf. Waiting around was driving him crazy, and it hadn’t taken long before he retreated to the roof to wait for him to show his face. What he hadn’t expected was that Rapidcloud had traveled out of speaking distance. Irritated he headed back towards the inner part of the fort, maybe there would be something to distract his mind with over there.

Stardust raised her head and tail as they neared Rapidcloud, eyes taking on a dominant spark as her body stiffened instinctively. She was extremely strict and unforgiving when it came to rank, expecting a complete show of submission from all the wolves below her as soon as she approached. But Rapidcloud failed to keep his body low enough for her, instead sitting down carefreely.

Lips curled up as she released a dark growl, white fangs showing as she broke into a sprint. Stardust was on Rapidcloud in two strides, her slightly larger frame towering over his as she snapped her jaws close to his right ear. Her icey blue eyes starded down at his orange orbs, rumbling deep in her throat as she threatened to sink her teeth into his head if he didn't submit to her right then and there.

Riya simply raised an eyebrow when Chehero only nodded in response, noting that the girl wasn't a very talkative one. Neither was she, most of the time, unless she was being informative or if she was in one of her moods - and it was really hard to shut her up if during the latter. But the Lieutenant shrugged casually as she too glanced over at the wolves, noting with little interest that Stardust was peeved at the other male.

"So how is your training?" she asked curiously, wanting to know what Vala had been asking the apprentice to do. That and people's responses to different types of work showed what they were like, both mentally and physically. It would help Riya to know what position to assign Chehero in the future, though she was probably getting ahead of herself. But she couldn't help it, she had a habit of planning way too far ahead.

The sudden change in Stardust slightly frightened Feathermist, digging her claws into the earth beneath her feet in an attempt stop herself before she ended up crashing into the pair. Leaving scratch marks in the ground, evidence of her attempt, her one front paw buckled sending the small wolf tumbling head over tail like a wheel spinning past Stardust and Rapidcloud. Eventually hitting a tree and coming to a dizzying stop, sprawling herself flat on the ground with her ears pulled back. A small whimper escaped her as she attempted to rise to her feet only to find the sky and ground were not quite still. Falling over once again she figured it was best to just wait it out, maybe by then the earth would stop moving so quickly.

Chehero smiled at the mention of her patron, Vala. Unlike herself, Vala loved to talk which filled in most of their conversation. And Chehero didn't mind it, the tasks she had given Chehero were respectfully suited for her rank, and rather fun to boot. "I rather enjoy working with my patron," Chehero admitted still grinning. "Though I have to admit her pranks do tend to lighten up the fort." Stifling a giggle at that she quickly corrected herself clearing her throat before continuing. "And she doesn't give me anything that anyone could do and she keeps me in strict training, sir." It was one habit Chehero found she couldn't break. Referring to the upper ranks as what they deserved, friends or not.

Running her fingers through her hair she quietly mulled through the first few days in the fort. Vala had come running out of the building quickly closing the door behind her as a loud crash had been heard. She was later informed that it was due to a mouse that had been placed in the owners bed. "I am surprised by Feathermists ability to keep up with the assigned tasks. She has surprising endurance." Even Chehero was pleased with the pups endurance even at her small age, but then again it could be the age that allowed her to have such a high endurance after all.

The unfamiliar growl from Stardust didn't faze Chehero, though when she was new it would have been certain to pull her distraction, but then again after spending time with Feathershroud she had been dulled to the sound. Tilting her head slightly to the side she tried to figure out what it really was Riya was getting at and figured it wasn't really something she needed to know being so low in rank.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 21, 2009 6:52 pm

A whining whimper resounded between the two adult wolves, ears pressing back against his head as his tail pulled up against him. He was more shocked by the sudden attack from Stardust than anything, sure that he had properly greated her a few moments ago. Making sure to keep all four paws close to his body he attempted to wiggle out from beneath the large female wolf, attempting to keep himself from wetting his fur. Keeping his large glowing eyes on her, he wanted to say something teasing but given current cirrcumstances he didn't really want to gamble it. Reaching his nose up he licked the underside of the alpha's snout looking over to the collapsed pup over by the tree.

Entering the clearing where he believed the blasted wolf to be, Dave stumbled upon two girls hidden away under one of the trees. At first glance uncalled images raced through his mind. Stiffling a blush, running a finger under his nose as he sniffed he realized the taller to be Riya. The second, he assumed, must have been the new arrival Chehero. Eye's washing over the rather feminin pair he continued forward. Mine as well see if either one of them would help him out of this blasted fort.

Stardust watched with easing satisfaction as the male submitted to her almost instantly. She always expected a wolf to lower himself to her up until her approach and obvious show of acceptance, but some of the wolves got so lost in their human's minds that they forgot to follow pack mentality as closely as they should. But it proved to be a good opportunity for the Alpha to beat sense back into her wolves, which was always a necessity from time to time.

Relaxing her stance as Rapidcloud licked at her muzzle, Stardust allowed her growl to soften into an affectionate rumble as she nuzzled the back of the male's head, even playfully nipping his ears. Then she turned her attention back to the pup, having noticed Feathermist roll by earlier but thinking nothing of it - the young ones were always clusmy on their feet, which they grew into eventually. Nevertheless, her tongue rolled out humorously as she trotted over to the adolescent.

How's the spinning? Stardust teased the youngster as she reached down to gently nuzzle the pup, softly licking the top of the snout in a comforting fashion. No doubt Feathermist was suffering the effects of rolling head over heels at the moment, something the Alpha had done many a times in her younger days.

Riya nodded quietly as she listened to Chehero recount her training in almost fond manner, which didn't surprise her in the least since the Drill Sergeant was always very good at preparing the recruits for what they would face in the forts. If anything, she sometimes thought that Adrian Black's training could be slightly harsher than what they did in White Shadow - she couldn't say the same for New Eve since she knew they were insanely ruthless over there. Not her style, but whatever works.

"What exactly has she been teaching you? Formations?" the Lieutenant asked curiously, wanting to know how far along Vala had gotten with the apprentice training. It was always good to keep track of an apprentice's progress simply to know how well a patron was doing with the task - but Chehero was lucky that it was wintertime, for patrons had less time to devot to their apprentices during the rest of the year.

Movement to the side caught her attention and Riya looked over to see Dave making his way to them. The young man was only a year younger than her if memory served her correctly, but he had only been in the patrol for two years. Riya simply watched and waited for the private to approach, a little curious as to what he wanted.
