 Blue curled up just inside the cave he had found, a warm fire going to take the chill from the air. Unfortunately nothing could take it from his heart, it seemed. So close, he thought he had been so close. He had made a friend, watched her grow, then she too slipped from his life. She just stopped coming to meet him, the butterflies found other places to be for the winter, and once again he was alone. He struggled hard, trying to remeber her face, her name, the sound of her voice. The first friend he could remember, and already he was forgetting. Was that a natural act of time? Or was it something more? Who was he before, why did he loose his memory? Would he be doomed to always meet people, just to forget them when they stayed away for too long. He sighed, and hoped not. Laying back down he gazed out into the dark wood. He knew his cave would project a twin light to any travelers, the orange glow of the fire, and the blue glow he himself naturally gave off. But it was rare that anyone ventured this deep into this part of the wood. At least... he only remembered one or two ponies....

Vanyel was, in truth, a bit lost. He'd known every road and every tiny woodland path back in Valdemar, but here was obviously not there... and the Herald-Mage turned pony had managed to wander into some kind of woods that it was proving damnably difficult to find his way out of again.
Sighing softly, he walked slowly forward... then looked up, ears pricking a bit. Was that light up ahead..? But of what... blue and orange together?
Curious, and yet cautious, Vanyel moved slowly toward the source of the light, trying to be quiet.

Not hearing him yet, and certainly not seeing him, not with the light coming from his flank and the fire behind him, Blue sighed and leaned his head back, closing his eyes. "A friend," he whispered. "A friend I won't be able to forget. If I can't have any of my other wishes, could I at least have that?" he whispered, not realizing that some one would be able to overhear him.
(It has been a very long time since I read that series, and my memory is foggy, I somewhat recall his being able to read minds. Can he? If so, should I post Blue's thoughts as well?)

Ears still pricked forward, Vanyel heard that and paused for a moment ... then went on. Whoever was here certainly didn't sound dangerous. No, he sounded rather lonely.
"Hello?" Van called softly, nosing some branches out of his way.

Blue Whisper leapt to his feet his eyes wide. He tried to force his heart back into it's proper place as he looked down at the cave floor, unsure who or what was out there. All he knew was that it could talk, and hadn't attacked him. Yet. "h...hello..." he whispered.

Vanyel tilted head a little at that, coming slowly to the entrance of the cave. "Heyla," he said quietly - seeing easily enough that the other male was about ready to bolt if he did anything startling.
"I'm sorry to intrude ... but I seem to have gotten myself lost," he said then, ducking head a little.

Blue blinked a few times then gave a soft nod. "I...I can help," he whispered. "If you want."

Vanyel tilted head a little at that with a faint smile. "Lead me out, you mean..?" he asked - still keeping his voice down.
Then he shrugged just slightly. "I don't mind it in here... I'd just like to know my way around. There were forests like this... where I came from originally."

Van blinked at that, head tilting a little. "You found this place first... I wouldn't kick you out."

Vanyel smiled gently at the other. "But since you were here... that must mean that you like it too. And I would not be so inconsiderate as to steal your spot from you."
Then he realized suddenly that he had never given his name and bobbed head slightly. "I am Vanyel ... Vanyel Ashkevron, though I doubt my last name would be known around these parts." Something he was glad of, in fact.
