It had been several months since their adventure to the mountains, Calantha hadn't seen them since they parted company on the mountain top as winter had just arrived.
It was turning into spring, all the snow had melted into the rivers, which now flowed over their banks as the rushed to the sea. It was a cloudless night, that was quickly turning into a cloudless day, finally warm after months of freezing. A perfect day for flying, which was why Dustin now entered the mare's thoughts, having greatly enjoyed his company in the air.
She streched out her wings, the familiar feeling of restlessness returning as she felt the wind rush over her wings, toying with her feathers. She stood in the meadow, which was quickly turning green once more, as fresh grass had grown in as soon as the snow had melted. As she flexed and flapped her wings, she stared up into the faintly lit sky, hoping to see someone to fly with her.

Dustin yawned and stretched his wings. It had been an interesting past few weeks/months for him after his mountain adventure with Calantha. He had met a mare who was pretty much afraid of good and not evil. He wasn't sure why this was so but she seemed pretty back words to him and after a few weeks of "protecting" her from cute things, he decided to go his own way again.
The weather was starting to turn warm again and giving warning that Spring was finally on its way. He hadn't seen anyone he knew for quite sometime and wondered how everyone was doing. The teepee where he stayed was abundant with joy at the moment as the eldest mare of the bunch just had another brood of children. Being that most of the herd was related, he didn't feel as though he should be there at the moment and had left to let the family have their joyful space.
It wasn't that he didn't like that stuff he just didn't feel it was his place to be there since he wasn't a relative. He really didn't have any family of his own that he remembered so he didn't bother looking for them and it seemed as if they didn't bother looking for him. But he was beginning to become restless in his old age and wanted a family of his own, even if he wasn't actively looking for a mate. Almost everyone he lived with either had a mate or someone they were interested. He was the most surprised to see Taylor find herself a stallion as she was the most flirtatious one of the bunch. Even Sadie, as independent as she was, had even found herself someone she was happy to be with (though she would never outright admit it).
Now he wondered through the forest looking for something to entertain himself or someone to give him company while he was temporarily displaced. The trees hadn't started budding leaves yet and his dark coat was easily seen amongst the whiteness of the ground.

It didn't take long for her to realize there was no one in the air yet except for the birds, perhaps some were still in hiding, not yet knowing that spring had arrived. She stretched and flapped her wings, walking towards the forest where some might be hiding, despite it now being colder in the forest than out in the open, perhaps they just needed reminding that spring was here. She stepped into the first mound of half-melted snow at the base of a tree, the chill traveling up her hoof and through her leg, it wasn't going to be a feeling she missed.
She took another step forward, trying to avoid the snow as best she could. It wasn't long before she heard hoofbeats half-crunching half-sloshing through the forest. Peaking over a fallen tree, which even fallen was almost as tall as her, she spotted a familiar black and red Soquili. "Dustin." She said as she flapped her wings and launched herself over the tree.

The black and red stallions ears swiveled in the direction he had heard his name being called from. The voice was familiar and it wasn't long before the Soquili who it belonged to, flew up over the fallen log that was on his left. He stopped and turned, cocking his head to the side curiously with a crooked grin to match. "Calantha." he said still grinning and headed towards her.
He hadn't seen her since their adventure to the mountains. He had pretty much stayed grounded and at the teepee since the snow began to fall. He had been taken care of all winter by the Indian girl who lived there and he didn't mind the other Soquilis that lived there, but he had missed seeing his own friends and acquaintances.

"I am glad I found you. I was thinking about you actually." She said returning his grin as he came towards her. She had spent the winter alone for the most part, not caring to stay in a teepee, or anywhere so confined, even if it was too cold to fly.
"How have you been?" She asked, as she shook some of the snow from her hooves, it was surprising how much colder it was here than out in the open, why anyone would still be here on such a lovely day, she didn't know. But perhaps he hadn't seen the lovely weather yet, and they would be able to fly together.

He was rather curious about her comment about thinking about him. It was interesting to him that she would just admit out right to something like that. Though it was also possible that he was just overly thinking about a simple comment.
He stopped when he was right beside her and he was still grinning. "Oh, I have been doing alright. Can't really complain. Just been waiting for the weather to break and finally get nice so I could stretch my wings again." he said casually and stretched his wings just for emphasis before folding them neatly again on his back. "What about you?" he asked curious as to what she had been up to throughout the winter.

"It already has broken, at least outside the forest it has. I guess the trees keep the sun out of the forest, and the snow in, because it is much warmer outside the forest." She said as she flicked her wings up and down a few times, she hadn't felt this anxious when she had woken up this morning. She didn't know if it was her wanting to fly, or who she had now found again, but it was a good kind of anxious.
"Winter treated me well enough, aside from being very boring and uncomfortably cold at times. I didn't do much though, except wander on the ground and try to find food that wasn't completely frozen." She said as she took a step away from him, back the way she came, hoping he'd follow her out of this miserably cold forest.

Dustin did take her hint, and followed her. He flexed and stretched his own wings a bit and was glad to finally have someone to talk to who he hadn't been stuck living with for months on end. "It's good then that the weather had finally broken. Once it gets warm enough and stays warm, the forest will warm up again and the snow will finally be gone from there as well." he said as he settled his wings on his back again.
He too was feeling anxious and wasn't all too sure why. It wasn't the type of anxiousness that comes when danger is near. It felt like something good. He figured it was probably because he was with someone who hadn't annoyed him all through the winter and whom he hadn't seen in such a very long time. "Winter was rather...annoying for me to say the least. I am glad to finally be away from the teepee and everyone who is currently living there. My teepee mates aren't at all bad but after being with them through the winter months, I am ready to get away from them all. There are way too many of them and they are all way too different for my liking and too much of them for a long period of time wears on ones patience."

"And it will be far nicer here once it is green again." She said as she stepped into a partly melted area, which was mostly just a very cold puddle of mud by now. She had to refrain from jumping out of it as soon as her hoof hit it, and instead just shuddered and carried on.
"I can't imagine being cooped up in one place for an entire season, even if it is warmer there. I'd probably leave after a week and brave the cold instead. So I can understand all winter would be quite hard." She said as she now avoided the half-frozen mud puddles.
(Sorry about the wait)

"I don't mind it too much." he said and side stepped the cold mud puddles as well. It wasn't the cold of the puddles that bothered him so much as the mud. He didn't feel like be dirty at the moment. He watched her as they walked along and the thought that she looked cute watching the ground for cold puddles to dodge slipped into his mind.
"Being cooped up makes it that much nicer when you finally get away from it. It also makes meeting up with friends that you haven't seen in a while that much better as well." he said still watching her, a smile also slipping its way on his face.

"If I had to, I'd live there if there was a blizzard outside, but I like to stretch my wings even if I am not going to fly. I wouldn't want to hit anyone with them in such tight quarters." She said, not really knowing how much room there was to move in a teepee, having never been in one.
It seemed to take far less time for them to reach the outer edge of the forest, than it had taken for her to get into the forest. Here the snow had disappeared, leaving it wet, and slippery in places, but also green in other places. She felt a warm breeze ruffle her feathers, and she knew the open field wasn't far away.

Dustin chuckled. "I don't actually live inside the teepee. The Indian girl who lives there made a shelter for us Soquili that stay with her so that we have a place big enough for us to go to when the weather is bad. It's not much but its better than nothing. If its not extremely bad I stay outside most of the time and let the older Soquili and the foals have my space." he explained to her as they walked.
He too felt the warm breeze and he took a deep breath of the fresh air. A smile spread across his face just as he took a step into a particularly large puddle of mud. He almost slipped because he had not seen it and it was a bit deep. He looked down and pulled it leg free which made the mud make plop kind of sound. "We should be careful with all of this mud. One could easily break a leg and that would not be good."

"Ah, I couldn't really picture it until now, that makes more sense." She said, having strangely thought they all lived in the human's teepee, with feathers, hooves and tails bursting at every seam. She now realized that was a rather strange idea.
"I've been avoiding the mud ever since I stepped in it, though that time it wasn't so hard to spot." She said looking over the saturated land, which had yet to grow enough grass to hold the land together, leaving a slick, slippery mess instead. She skirted around it, stepping on tree roots to avoid it, but looking rather silly as she did it. It wasn't long before she saw the field she had come from, the short spring grass rippling in the breeze.

Dustin chuckled as he watched her step around the mud by stepping on tree roots. She did look rather silly but she also looked cute. "I've been trying to avoid most of the bigger mud spots but the little ones I just walk through. Can't avoid them all." he said as he walked along side of her with his feet already muddy and getting even muddier.
Dustin breathed in deeply as the spring breeze blew and ruffled his feathers. It was nice to feel the slightly warm breeze.

"Oh I know. You just never know when the little ones aren't actually little ones. I stepped in one the other day that looked about as big as my hoof, and ended up with water up to my knee, it was a former gopher hole." She said as she splashed through a puddle that thankfully wasn't very deep. It also seemed to be the last of the puddles in their way, as they made their way out of the tree line, and the first spring grass took hold. She resisted the urge to bounce around like a newborn foal, something in the fresh spring air always livened her up after a long winter.
She smiled at Dustin as she streched out her wings now that they were free of the forest, ready to take flight.
