This was it. The edge of the forest, and the beginning of a new chapter in her life.
Vienne stopped to glace back at the expanse of trees she had come to call her home. She loved it dearly, yet had constantly found herself wondering what else was out there in the world. There were many times the young mare had told herself it was time to step out of her burrow, but had never summed up the courage to do so.
Until today. Keep walking... she told herself, focusing her gaze back to the landscape before her. One golden hoof stepped out, then another. Vienne soon picked up her pace and trotted lightly through the grass, head held high and thoughts on the future. She wasn't sure where she was headed, but it didn't bother her. Travelling without a destination was part of the fun, after all.

Taigi's hooves pounded in the already-softening spring ground, throwing a beat into the air to accompany that of his traveling companion. This was an open plain, stretching out before the two contrasting figures running across. He and Nevara had just set out on their expansive journey and his heart raced with the wind as they galloped towards the still-rising sun. They'd left the morning after Nevara spoke her good-byes, strategizing to get across this boring flatland in the least amount of time possible.
Though, suddenly, upon this flawless sea of grasses still dead from the passing winter, he spotted another color that did well to contrast the field. It appeared to be another equine which departed from the forest that was a mere line along the horizon from his point of view. And so, mid-run, he tossed his head to face Nevara, then gesturing to the slight, dark figure quite a way in front of them. "What do you think it is? Friendly?"
His muscles tensed to be ready to protect his companion. It would still be a time before they reached this dark shape disturbing the scene and he liked the ease of mind that came with the idea of being prepared to face this possible obstacle. Though it would be a shame to have a disturbance this early on in their adventure.

After making the past few days full of goodbyes the change in senery was welcomed. The pale blue mare followed her companion through the sea of darkened grass and few bushes. Her mane bew wildly as the wind whipped through the fielf mercilessly, though because of her unique mane cut, it just russled the hairs on the back of her neck and blew her bangs around her eyes. She suspected Taigi's mane was causing more problems than her own.
At the sound of the distress in his tone, she snapped out of the little scene playing in head and came up beside him, looking over his shoulder curiously to investigate the subject in question. "Vait a second..." Nevara squinted her eyes, trying to get a better glimpse at it, but from this distance she just saw a slender black equine figure with accents of red. Perhaps the small figure meant it was female? "I don't know. But it don't look dangerous. I think it's a female" she blinked and looked back at him. "Vhat do you think? Should ve check it out?" She asked tilting her head slightly in question.

Her light humming faded away as her attention was turned to two figures in the distance. She continued to move towards their general direction, slowing down slightly to give herself some time to investigate further.
They were obviously of equine shape, one larger than the other. As they drew nearer, Vienne confirmed that it was a male and a female heading her way. They're probably a couple, she thought, inclining her head slightly in curiosity. The male didn't seem to resemble any stallion she'd come across during her time in the forest. She found herself staring at his odd tail, and... what was that sticking out of his forehead? It looked rather dangerous, and for a moment she was unsure if he was friendly or not. But the mare next to him seemed quite as ease at his side... perhaps there was nothing to fear from them.
Her speed picked up again as she strode forward, eyes trained on the pair before her.

His head nodded in approval at Nevara's question, and his hooves began treading through the browned grasses once more. The shape was approaching as well. Perhaps it was curious as well... Either that or it was hostile. Whichever it was, Taigi made sure that Nevara was shielded by his body, so that even if it was an evil creature, it would fight him first and she would have time to run.
As it neared, he could make out definite features. It possessed the wings of a butterfly. This, he knew all too well, was a flutter. His body relaxed as his thoughts brought back the pleasant memory of his first encounter outside his family. His first adventure.
Tai's pace was relaxed and a smile slipped onto his face. He was ninety-nine point nine percent sure that this was a friendly entity. This flutter seemed to be a female, because of her slim and graceful proportions. Flowers were woven into her mane and a strange glow came from the general area of her face. She was young, too. She wouldn't be too much of a threat. So, his foal-self curiosity restored with the recalling of his very first travels to the border of his forest, he walked to meet Vienne.
