Rhine held herself deep in the Lost Woods. She sat depressed in the crook of a tree. Her grey-bluee ocarina to her lips, her words caressed the sky and carried far through the trees. Her lament pouring out to all those that surrounded her. The tune luring in an audience of deku scrubs and phyri and fairy of the like... even some unsuspecting Kokiri children.
There was that one girl that she made fall into the stream. The recollection added a merrier note to Rhine's tune. The sound was painful to her ears, resulting in the intake of a pained breath, before attempting her sad song again. She was not allowed to be cheerful. Not with the way her heart was trampled.
She curled deeper into the crook of the tree. Her grey hair falling over her teal eyes, shadowing her from the sunlight of the world, bringing her ever so much further into her depression. Her focus completely on her ocarina.
Men... the devil's work... her words echoed through the woods.

Recently grown into his new body, he had difficulty at times, trying to understand the forest influences on his body. He could feel things. Things his ocarina form had not been able to. Even when he was with Rotem, his senses had dulled to focus more on him.
His ears flicked and suddenly he caught the faint echo of a melody... Sad and of a kind that causes his heart to feel as if it were on ice. His own ocarina pulsed with a longing to respond, and before he knew it the wooden ocarina was at his lips and he was playing a cheery tune, that captured the happiness he felt at every moment.
He was moving steadily among the trees, constantly making his way towards the sad song, gathering a train of dancing fairies and other creatures. His eyes opened upon reaching Rhine's tree and he looked upon the only other Forest Child he had ever seen.

Rhine's ears perked as she heard Jordan's song. Her music stopped. What was this? She looked around her to find who dared disturb her melody. Her teal eyes rested, and narrowed, on Jordan.
Another Forest Child. He looked much happier than she was. Why hadn't her song effected him? She looked him over. Bright color, pretty robes, a lovely ocarina... where had he faired so much better than she had? Did he have a friend? Someone to care for? What was his story? She was curious... but didn't care to ask and find out.
Instead, Rhine just rolled her eyes and curled back into her tree. She brought her ocarina to her mouth again, and continued with her heart's song, louder than before. She would drown out this annoyance.

Jordan stared in amazement, pausing in his music for a moment in order to study Rhine, she saw herself as imperfect or damaged, but he thought she just looked different, so interesting.
He looked around him, and the fairies and assortment of creatures were surrounding him and dancing happily. Then, the others who were further away, looked gloomy... Like they had heard the same song as him but had been affected much more...
Jordan glanced up at the other Forest Child as she resumed her music and he could see the immediate effect on those around him. They lost their boisterous luster. The song allured them and depressed them at once. Jordan looked up at the other in the tree and began his song again, playing just as loud. He was determined, his music was cheerful, happy, and filled with the longing to make those around him feel the same.

Never had Rhine lurred anyone so cheerful. She looked up again, not caring to stop playing. She continued. Rhine enjoyed watching the other forest creatures sway to her song and prostrate themselves at her. It gave her a feeling of power. She wooed so many!, but she had yet to lure the one she wanted... and Jordan was not it. He was much to perky.
Rhine couldn't help but keep her eyes on the vibrant forest child. He was inspiring to say the least. The way he attempted to loop his song around hers. His heart song effected the critters just like hers, but in a complete opposite way. He could sway his own population of animals, but leave hers alone!
Rhine's song changed. Jealousy and anger flooded her notes. Her eyes rolled back and closed, she wouldn't watch, she could feel the emotion of the forest change with her tune.
Let's play.

Jordan's ears flicked and his mind screamed in pain at the harsh tones of her music. He had to close his eyes to keep them from tearing up. The forest hurt, and its pain echoed through every one of his senses.
He looked up into the tree again and forced his music to keep coming. His notes poured forth, with emotions of love and care, his concern for each and every living thing around him. His music fought with Rhine's, trying to pull any souls he could from Rhine's pit of despair.
Is this what you want?

Rhine was getting fed up fast with this intruder to her parts of the forest. Her music ceased. Her eyes opened. She watched Jordan suad all the forest creatures. It was amazing how easily effected things were to music.
The fairies stopped wallowing. The deku scrubs stopped sobbing. Every soul became cheerful and began to dance. Dancing! Really, Rhine was so unused to it.
The lorelei jumped down from the tree and circled the green forest child. With narrowed eyes she looked him over. What made him tick? What made him happy? Why was he happy? Why did her care?
She stopped by his side, facing him. She brought her stone colored instrument to her lips and sang.
Everyone to feel how I do, is precisely what I want...
Her notes rang in a whisper, but the impact was there. The other inhabitants eyes became teary and they stopped their dancing and sat and listened to Rhine's story. How sad it was to be unloved...

Jordan stopped his music as the other circled him. He watched her cautiously and wondered at her interesting appearance. He thought to himself, She reminds me of a reflection in a pond...
He turned to look at her as she stopped and sorrow washed over him as she sang. It was such a heart chilling melody. He needed to respond, it was not just a want. His own heart, which had felt the wave of sadness but had remained bright, was telling him to sing.
Then we are kin, for my heart wishes the same...
His own music battled with hers among the creatures, many were conflicted, battling between happiness and sorrow.
Tell me Heart Sister, what sorrow you hold...

Rhine stared at him. Why, why, why was he so friendly and happy? She was hellbent to find out. He was completely incapable of sadness. Never had she met such a being in her life, and she has lived a long life as till now! Her teal eyes boared into his brown ones. She would find the answers.
Kin? We are the same? You are wrong, we are very different.
Her musical response still whispered her heartache.
This world is a horrid place, it's inhabitants are evil, that is what saddens me... and you...
Rhine's melody trailed off, as the forest child turned face and headed in a whole new direction altogether, she needed to get away from Jordan. He was truely confusing her. His song mingled with hers in all the wrong ways. His almost made her want to add in hopeful notes to her own melody! The odacity!
She needed to be alone when she wished to brood... and that's how it would be. Rhine zig-zagged between a few trees and headed far off into the distance. She was headed towards the Zora pond. There were many fairies always gathering around there, they enjoyed her song.

ordan's heart sang, but before he knew it she had left. Her song echoed around him and he could see its lingering trace of sadness as she fled.
He felt her path through the woods as if he walked it himself. Her song left a visible trail of weeping dekus and drooping fairies. He brought his own ocarina to his lips and blew one clear note. It echoed far and wide, sent with the full force of his voice and mind. It set each living thing in preparation. Preparation for the next note to be played...
Finally, as the last echo of his note silenced, he played again, a chipper, bright melody that caused the creatures in his immediate area to break into dance. He played now, not the full force of the single note, but a steady, continuous melody as he weaved his way through the trees.
He tried to mend the large gash in the forest's mood. There was a palpable sorrow in the air, leading him to where Rhine had fled. He was a determined fellow, and her sorrow seemed to strike a particularly iportant chord in his heart.

Rhine had hardly left and that pesky other forest child insisted on happiness. Didn't he understand that she didn't want company? Her music picked up an intense anger.
The drifting Forest Child stopped on a dime and turned to glare at her follower. Her music loud and sharp, she near shouted.
Why are you following me?
Then her song softened, still agitated...
I want to be alone.
And then, she turned and continued on her path to the pond. Her music even more aggrivated and angry than before.
He dare follow her! She left him... what made him think that was ok? Oh, he best stop trying to make her happy. All he was doing was ticking her off... let's be angry and sad! Jeez, she really needed alone time....

Jordan's ears drooped, and he stopped momentarily. He was newly born into his body, and was unsure if he really should be pushing this other...
Confused, he sat on a root and thought things over. He wanted to make Rhie happy... But she said she wanted to be alone...
He whistled once, not happily, not sadly, just... a whistle. He looked around, his deep brown eyes examining the forest wistfully. He hadn't seen the forest much, ever really, and his eyes were eager for every little bit.
Finding the way Rhine had gone, he looked after her and he closed his eyes in thought.
Why would anyone want to be alone?

Rhine made it into the clearing. She watched as the tiny fairies circled around the water and weaved in and out between over grown blades of grass. The moved so carelessly, just happy and content to be in the company of other fairies. There were not many Forest Children... where had that all gone? The only one she had ever met was Jordan. Go figure, he was cheerful, annoying, and confusing...
Rhine's lips went to her ocarina. She sang a tiny melody, it was more confused than sad, but there was still the ever shrouding emotion. The fairies stopped to listen.
He called us kin.... She songed to the other pond occupants. We have the same drive. But, he is wrong... He is cheerful and happy.... loved even... and I am sad.
The lorelei continued to muse about Jordan, spilling her feelings for the other Forest Child over her ocarina. He confused and angered her, but there was still a curiosity. Was she really his kin?

Jordan could hear the echoes of Rhine's song, it wasn't the same as before. It wasn't as sad and overwhelming, just confused. He felt the same, confusion and unsure of what to do next.
He moved towards the song and watched her from around a tree. She was the only Forest Child he knew, and he truly believed she was kin.
Again, he wondered what had caused her such sorrow...

Rhine finished her musing. She floated up into a tree, a tiny clatter of twigs and stuff taking her attention for a second. Once she got to a branch and settled herself Rhine sat surveying the clearing. She watched the fairies go about their natural ballet, swirling and sparkling without a care.
Without a care... I can be like that.
The grey forest child laid against the trunk of the tree, lolling back peacefully against the bark. It was rough on her skin, just like her moods were rough on others. But she was comfortable.
Was she truely as abrassive as this bark?
There I go, caring... my mind is racing.
She needed her ocarina. She did care and needed to let it be known. She reached for the instrument that always hung about her neck. Her hands contacted only herself. Her ocarina had gone missing. She just had it, had it fallen during her climb into the tree? Rhine peered down, her teal eyes scouring the dirt and grass far below her. A glint of shiny grey caught her eye, her ocarina, it was down there. She sighed and fell back against the tree again. Why was the world so rotten?
