I'm going to be participating in my school's talent show next week, playing this song, and I have a problem concerning how I should most adequately amplify my acoustic guitar (a Schecter Diamond Acoustic). It is an acoustic-electric with a piezo pickup and an active onboard preamp with +/- 12dB Presence, Treble, Middle, and Bass controls. My question is whether I should plug in and use the PA, or if I should have my guitar miked, since the song involves a bit of percussion (finger/palm taps, etc.) on the top of the guitar, and I'm not sure if the piezo would pick that up very well. Suggestions?

I'm actually unsure of that. A flier we received a while back detailed the dates of various school events and said that the talent show would be on the 19th, and since we got this week off, that leaves us basically NO time for the tryouts/rehearsal that usually goes on.

I would NOT mic the guitar unless you know how to do it properly. If you only have cheaper microphones (dynamic and not condenser) you will never get the right sound out of it. Also, your piezo is more likely to pick up the percussive elements of the sound than your microphone will.
Are you using a wedge monitor or will you not bother?

The school has a fairly large auditorium and its own supply of sound gear, but I'm not sure about the state of the mics or whether or not monitors will be in use.

Well, since the song involves some finger/percussion work, I'd mic it up, but otherwise, I'd just plug it in. Unless you're super picky about your tone, you should just need to adjust volume. Well, depending on how good the PA is I guess, but it shouldn't be anything you can't handle.
