Rook swam along the bottom of the shallow end of the pool. He was a bit nervous as his last time here he'd almost been tricked into being drowned and thought the boy was a good swimmer he had no desire to brave the deep end again just yet. Maybe in a half hour or so when he felt calm and safer. Until then Rook was content to navigate the shallows picking up weighted rings that other children had dropped and neglected or been unable to pick up.

Shiraz was sort of pouty as she was brought to the swimming pool. She'd not been allowed to munge for the last hooooooooour because of this trip and that just seemed cruel. Ebby had explained if she ate before swimming, she'd get sick, but Shiraz still didn't get why she had to swim at all. Oh well, may as well get it over with and then she'd have an excuse for a bigger meal!
The toddler pouted a bit as she was carried towards the shallow end by her elder brother. She'd managed to keep them from making her wear a little girly type swimsuit like Ebony liked, a tank top and shorts of the funky shiny stretchy material had been gotten for the panda instead. She'd wanted it in black but Bailey said it looked too odd on her so they got her a dark green. So picky were her siblings! At least they were nice, she could take that.
Soon as the toddler was plopped into the water, she started splashing around a bit, half walking and half attempting to figure out how to float. This was just plain silly!

Rook carried the already captured rings on his tail as he headed for the last one he could see. It was located near a young panda child who seemed to be engaged in learning the mechanics of swimming and the fact that water resisted when you walked much more than air did. He didn't want to interrupt the learning process but instead watched from nearby smiling encouragingly, well at least this one wouldn't try to drown him anytime soon.

At one point, the furred child ended up tripping, falling over a bit in the water and though she sat up rather fast and only got a bit waterlogged, she ended up spotting the strange boy in the process. Moving into a position that was half floating half sitting, she waved a bit at him. That's what her siblings did when they saw people so it should make sense, right?

Rook smiled and waved back with a three fingered hand, " Do you want help?" Clearly her kind was not meant to swim normally and she wasn't adapting to the water nearly as fast as he had when he first entered a pool. The least the boy could do was offer to help her get the basics down so it wasn't such a hard process, maybe he might even make a friend during it. over the last little while Rook had realized that while he did have a few friends he wasn't nearly as social as many of the others he knew and it bothered him just a little. Made him wonder if there was something about him that made only certain people like him.
The boy's tail swayed in the water as he stood there, still curled enough to keep the rings on while it did so.

Shiraz shook her head. "Mmno. Gotta figure it out on my own." she said, "'fanks for off'rin' though."
"S'yer name?" the girl asked, thinking on how the boy had approached her and how the others in the pool area had. She was much better at watching and figuring out rather than just being told.

Ahh, rejected again but at least this girl was polite about it and she was less rejecting him than simply wanting to learn on her own. iI was admirable really.
" I'm Rook" Rook said with a smile shifting his left leg a little so that a boy nearby didn't step on the hand span of chain that was attached to the shackle that still refused to leave his leg. " And your name is?" he inquired.

"Cab'renay Sh'raz" the other said, sticking out her tongue a bit as she tried to reposition herself so she was floating on her back.

" Don't tuck while you're on your back" Rook warned " You have to stay spread out or you'll sink." He might not be able to physically help Cabrenay but he didn't think she'd mind the odd pointer , after all it was for her own benefit.

"The heck is tucking?" the panda said, trying to spread herself out anyway, "anyway, 'n't I say I 'n't really want insructuns?" Well, now she was at least floating, her slightly more round shape leaving her somewhat buoyant for the moment. "Th'y're distractin' 'n then I figure nothin' out."

" You shouldn't swear" Rook chided softly, this girl seemed sweet and the only people he knew that swore were mean, or his mother if she was really mad. The grey skinned boy sighed softly and leaned back to float as well " I'm sorry" Maybe.. maybe he just shouldn't try to help people anymore, it never made them happy.

Shiraz replied, screwing up her face a bit, "'not been allowed to munge aaaaaaaaaanything for the past hooooooour, not even a little bit, and I'm all confused cause this is new and weird. I thought when you offered to help you were offerin to tell me how to do it but tellin doesn't work for me and then you told me 'nyway. Sorry."

" It's ok " Rook said softly " I should have just listened when you said no." Well at least cabernay wasn't horribly mad at him. " It's a myth you know that you can't eat before swimming, you don't really get cramps and you'd only get sick if you ate like a big meal and then swam really hard." Rook had heard the myth the first time he'd gone swimming from some kid who'd been forced to wait an hour by their parent before entering the pool. His own mother had quickly told him the truth and reassured Rook he had nothing to worry about.

".........I'ma tell my sister and brother that, thanks. They don't go swimming much so they wouldn't know but still..." the toddler commented, noticing how much she'd moved from her previous position with the floating. Hastily she raised her arms in the water a bit, trying to - in a way - push herself back in Rook's direction.

" My mom learned it on a tv show and then checked the facts online, lots of people even grown ups still believe it, they were probably just trying to protect you." It was the sibling type thing to do, to try and protect your family. Rook resisted the urge to explain to the panda girl what she needed to do as he watched her. His head was titled to the side and his nose just under the surface, fortunately he could hold his breath longer than the average person and he didn't feel in any danger at the moment.
