By request and plot tying, some extraplanar fun 14 years later...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kieran stared at the far wall, elbows on his desk and hands clasped tightly, chin resting against his hands. He couldn’t get it out of his head but he supposed that it wouldn’t be out anytime soon. Another argument between him and his father…this one would go unfinished however. Ahkallyn screamed, he screamed, and then Ahkallyn just went quiet. The silence had left Kieran blinking before yelling for his father and trying to grab him as the elder elf fell limp to the floor. It was cruel…the last moment he had with his father, the last conversation he was ever going to have was a fight. He had sat there on his knees, trying to get his father to open his eyes like an incessant toddler before his mother’s scream had redirected his attention. It all seemed a blur from there. A week and a half and a funeral had passed since then. Kieran had fallen into a routine as a plane mourned with his family over the death of his father. Stoic for the time being he pulled himself together and got up, walking like a ghost down the halls to his mother’s room, knocking softly before letting himself in. Please…don’t let her be crying again, please. He couldn’t stand to see her cry. “Morning mother.” He himself looked like hell from the stress, grief, and guilt of it all but he didn’t care. His focus was on Elaria and Lharika as well, hell he hadn’t even been paying attention to Rainsongs, or Fianna for that matter...mostly because he knew what they would want to say to him if they caught him idle. Nor had he sent word to Piper either. He'd rather this stay as limited as possibe.

Quiet was the way to describe things that had been going on lately. What with the death of Ahkallyn, it was like things had momentarily shut down...that was save for Nillrik whom seemed the least unaffected by the moment. Perhaps that was because he hadn't know Ahkallyn as long as the rest of them but she didn't fault the boy for it. Someone had to be upbeat in times like this. He did a grand job trying to keep spirits up seeing as he didn't like to see anyone unhappy around him. Pressing a kiss to a now young teenage Nillrik's hair, she gave him a pat on the behind and sent him on his way. "Get to classes now before you're late." Of course Lucana as a nation had taken an amont of time to grieve together but people had to get lives back in gear at some point. Which meant shcool was back in.

Nillrik hugged his mother, giving her a kiss on the cheek before he headed off from her and down the all too quiet halls out of the palace. He was a cheerful child, if not overly hyper and energetic, always getting into trouble as he had taken after his mother. Frankly he wasn't looking forward to going back to classes, he'd rather be playing. "Oh well...sooner started, sooner done I suppose."

Galesen sighed as he stood in his home, fourteen years had been a long time, even though he was an elf. Still for the past fourteen years he had done enough to make himself known somewhat on the plane, even though he did not meant to do it intentionally. The best thing he had done since the move he made actually came quite by accident. It all started about three years after he had moved into his new house after building it with his own two hands like he wanted. It started when he, Isle, Nillrik, and his Brigade guards since he was still being watched, went to the beach on Torea. He was busy watching the water as Isle was playing with Nillrik when he happened to be just in a bit of a trance by the waves rolling in and out, and how some of them got pretty large from time to time. Then he saw someone windsurfing far out for him to watch for awhile, it seemed like a lot of fun and Galesen had tried it once so he knew out it worked, but it was when he was staring at the actual board and then back to the waves that he had an idea spring in his head. So he called Barhnel, who was always with him back then when he needed his stead and with his Brigade members headed into town to the only windsurfing shop that was opened. There he purchased once that suited him for full price and took it with him back to the waters edge where Isle and Nillrik were waiting for him patiently. When asked what was going on Galesen just leaned down and removed the mast, much to the surprise of the others. He told them he had an idea and with the looks of other elves on the beach he set out for the water. It took him a good ten minutes to swim far out without the mast with him, and when he settled himself on the board properly he waited until he surely felt a big wave coming in. When he was lifted up by the water Galesen quickly stood up on the board and allowed the waves to carry him to shore, the problem was as he tired to ride the wave it was easy for the force to knock him off so he quickly fell into the water as soon as he was moving with it. After failing badly at that and getting a few laughs from everyone, Galesen tried it again, and again, and again, and again. He kept on doing it despite what people were thinking and soon enough he had people asking him how he was doing it and if they could try it out. He decided after awhile to learn how to make the boards, since it seemed people wanted to buy one without having to buy a windsurfing board just to remove the mast, and he began to sell them after finding the best technique and approach to making the boards. Once he noticed that everyone was wanting to buy his boards well Galesen decided the best thing to do was open a shop in Torea, and so he was able to bring a new sport to Andal, which he of course called it surfing since it seemed fitting enough.

Still, with a new shop under his belt it didn't keep him from actually doing what he was suppose to be doing in the first place, being Malik's eyes and ears on Andal. Though Galesen knew he was sort of getting more than was actually stated when he talked to Malik so long ago, his health had improved some what, his magic seemed a bit stronger, he had access to things that he did not get much in the Underdark, and he had forged a relationship with Isle. Things were looking up and he was happy, more than happy. But he did his duties, he made sure that the kingdoms on Andal gave him certain reports on what Malik had interest in and wanted to keep in the know how, and in turn he would send his own statements in case any of the kingdoms of Andal ever wanted to trade with him. When there were gatherings Galesen was there to represent Malik of course and to make note of what had been spoken of so he could send what was needed to know back to the fortress. Though there were times where Galesen went back to the Underdark and visit everyone, some times he was bearing gifts and things for each child and parent, excluding Sevilin of course, and there were times he just went there because he wanted to be there or Malik summoned him for some purpose.

More or less Galesen suddenly became a busy man, his business was good, Malik paid him well for his services, and he was known among those who were important well enough by the time he reached his tenth year of living there. Still he was glad for the fact that his house was all by itself on an island off the coast of Lucana, Tyyrael and him were able to find one which had some forest cover and big enough plot for Galesen to actually build personally without much bother; though he did ask for certain materials like wood form Odaria, stone form Lucana, and the furniture and stuff which he bought from the market place in Torea. When he finished, which took him a year to build, Galesen had made a two story house that was sort of like the one he had back in the Underdark. The first floor contained a kitchen, bathroom, a large gather space where he could eat and train, and a cozy fireplace which the chimney was the only thing that stuck out on the side of his house. The upstairs contained three bedrooms, all soundproofed. The one far down the hall was his master bedroom, and the other two were guest bedrooms which of course he allowed Nillrik to claim one since he did sleep over some times. The best part was he had runes set up on the house, and he had the same ones places exactly like he had Sevilin place on his old house. Basically, Galesen had made his own mini castle far enough so people would not brother him and he could live in peace.

His relationship with Isle was a strong as ever, they had been seeing each other after he had moved up to Andal, and Galesen couldn't be happier. Though he was extremely happy that his relationship with Nillrik had grown more ever since he had begun to take care of the little guy when he could. Though he wasn't actually bonded with the two of them, he mostly felt something that felt tingly from Isle and Nillrik well he could probably sense just a blip of what could be a bond but he did not dwell on it, he was just glad to be involved with them. He knew though that with the passing of Ahkallyn things had changed a lot, Isle was upset at the whole ordeal, not as much as Kieran but he could tell she was. Galesen was there for the funeral and of course respected the wishes of Kieran not to tell Malik of Piper just yet. Still he could sense that Isle was deeply upset and he had to try and make things better for her again. So Galesen was planning something for the two of them to do together, maybe a picnic up in the mountains could do her some good. So after gathering a few things he called for Barhnel and set off to the palace. When he reached there he got off and walked inside, seeing Nillrik just coming down the hallway. "Hey, Nillrik! How are you doing?"

He jumped down the last few stairs, backpack slung over one shoulder and whistling some. Indeed he was the spot of happy and sunshine in this place. Not that he minded. Continuing down the hall he gave a grin to Galesen, high-fiving him when he got close enough. "Doing fine. Have to go to school though." Sticking his tongue out at that, seeing as his free spirit did not enjoy being cooped up, even for a few hours.

Galesen raised his hand for that high five he knew that was coming and chuckled at Nillrik's attitude toward going back to school. "Well you are getting an education which you need, so just stick with it. It will all be over soon enough Nillrik." A small chuckle though as he placed his hand on the kid's head and ruffled his hair a little. "Hey, where is your mother? I need to speak with her."

"Yeah...everyone is just still in a bummed mood I guess. Classes won't be any fun if it's still like that." He liked his classes...when they were fun. "She's up in her room. She wasn't dressed in the going out fashion though." Granted, his mother had been sticking indoors for the last week and a half. Mostly because she was trying to tend to the wounds created in his grandparents from this all. And Nillrik understood enough not to hassle her to go outside and play with him too much. Grandpa was really close to Kieran and well....Kieran was distant from everyone save two people right now.

"Yeah well this is a hard time for everyone, with Ahkallyn passing everyone is effected by it. From what I know he has been very important during his rule and after and he was very close to those we know Nillrik so I can see why everyone is upset." Though he gave a nod to the boy and smiled a little. "Thank you, now you get going to your classes, can't be late today now can we?" And so he let Nillrik go and continued on his way to Isle's room, when he got there he knocked on her door and slowly let himself in. "It's me." After letting himself in Galesen closed the door behind up and looked at Isle, her son was right she wasn't in the mood to do anything by the looks of it. "Hey Isle, how are you doing?"

Not crying this morning but not in reverie either. She hadn't been able to bear reliving the memories just yet. Half of her was missing, her heart felt like it'd ripped out, mangled, and sewn back into her body. She was sitting in the same place she'd been last night when he'd bussed her cheek with his lips and wished her a good night: the window. It seemed to be one of the only places she wanted to be anymore, overlooking Farhian and trying not to think. Forcing a smile for her son's sake, she nodded. "Morning, Kieran. Have you eaten yet?"

Tiptoeing around the palace seemed to be the only thing to do these days. She'd heard the screen from the solarium and come running and the sight of her grandfather lying there was still fresh in her mind. Her first instinct had been to run to Fianna and she had, blubbering out the news. The rest of the time was a blur. Somehow they'd gotten back home. She vaguely remembered eating and the funeral but most of it was undefined shapes and faraway voices. Now she was leaning on the balcony watching the sun slowly creep into the sky and wondering why.

Lateef hated life right now. He had his own grief over Ahkallyn's passing but it was more Kieran's grief that he felt in the marrow of his bones. Elaria was like a ghost, wandering the palace at any nondescript hour. More than once he'd caught her searching for her husband and gently shepherded her back up to her bed. Little was being done but little was expected. Sitting in Kieran's office, he set down yet another missive, jotting off a quick reply. Kieran didn't need to worry about the running of the kingdom right now. He had enough to be concerned over.

Her casual, to her, relationship with Galesen was by the wayside right now. There were more important things than personal indulgences as her and her mother struggled to help her father with this all and spent morning prayers that this would pass and everyone would be well once more. When she wasn't doing that, she was doing whatever was needed her around the place, and taking care of Nillrik...whom she felt guilty to right now as well, seeing as he wasn't getting as much playtime as he was used to. "Oh...hello Galesen. I'm alright I supposed. Just weary. Did you see Nillrik heading out or did he detour himself?"
--
If it wasn't hard enough to watch his father die, he knew his mother was perhaps not long to follow after. Surface elves died of heartbreak after all, and he knew his mother's was broken and no one, not even him, could fix it. Walking over to her, he pressed another kiss to her cheek. "Not yet, I'm not hungry. Do you want me to bring you something up?" He wasn't forcing her into the company of others yet either.

Fianna rested a hand of Lhairka's shoulder...Kieran may not be speaking to her, but that didn't mean she wasn't here. Luccaydyn could try his hand at running things back home for a while while she tended to family matters. Yes, Ahkallyn had been family to her despite his dislike of her and her not officially married to Kieran. "Come on Lhairka, let's get something to eat." Tending to the girl to indeed keep herself busy and Nillrik as well, or anyone else who needed her for matter. Pulling Lharika away from the window, and into the hallway...though she stopped at Kieran's office at the noise. "Kieran?" Poking her head in, giving a lightly sigh. "Oh...morning Lateef. How are you feeling?" She cared for him almost as much as she cared for Kieran and seeing as the two were so close...she knew he also needed someone too.

"No, thank you, dear. I'm just going to sit here for a while." Reaching out, she caught her son's hand and pressed a kiss to his palm before holding it against her own cheek. "You should try to eat, Kieran. You need your strength."

She followed easily enough, used to Fianna or someone else handing her food and making sure she ate and bathed herself and all of those other mundane tasks that seemed to unimportant now. She was in a funk of sorts and had no idea how to get out of it. Standing quiet, she gave a nod to Lateef and waited patiently for her mother to stop talking.

Glancing up, he sent Fianna a tired smile. "I'm surviving, Fianna. Same as anyone else, I expect. Kieran's up and about; he's with his mother right now." They both knew what that meant and he shook his head. "Just tending to the few things that can't be put off. He'll be back sooner than you think."

Why couldn't she care more about herself? Why couldn't she try? He was going to be forced to watch his mother give up on life from a broken heart. It terrified him. "You do too..." Curling his fingers around her hand, he pulled her up from where she sat and tried to force a smile to her, but it perhaps didn't come out more than a strained grin. "How about we get something together. His eyes searching hers for some confirmation....and fearing to find blame in them as well.

"Not if Elaria..." Trailing off the sentence because none of them wanted to hear what the end was, even if most of them knew what that ending indeed was. Kieran just lost his father and now was living in the constant fear of his mother going the same way. It made good reason for his distance but at the same time...his distance from the rest of them hurt just as much. A pet to Lark's hair before looking to Lateef again, "We were going to get something, would you like to join us?"

She knew what he needed and she wanted so badly to give it to him but it was difficult. She didn't blame Kieran, would never have blamed him and wished he didn't blame himself. Ahkallyn was older than he'd admit and far more frail than he'd have anyone believe. Elaria knew he'd gone just the way he wanted to; blustering and proving to everyone he was as young as they thought he was. Her son was dealing with the fact the two of them had been arguing when his heart had failed. Giving him a slight smile, she gave a nod. "Alright. It would probably do me some good to get out of this room anyway."

Lateef's eyes dropped back to the desk and he steepled his fingers, no more willing to think or talk about the other's death than she was. "He will," he reaffirmed quietly. Then a small shake of his head. "I already ate earlier with Caprice, but thank you for the invitation. Make sure Lharika eats enough. She's skin and bones."
PostPosted: Sun Feb 08, 2009 12:36 pm

That got a more genuine smile out of him as she agreed and he followed her words with a nod. "Changes of scenery are always nice." Lacing her arm through his and leading her out of the room, both resuming their quiet ways as they wandered down the hall. He hated the quiet, it allowed him to think. And yet they really had nothing to say...both grieving but hardly together on the matter most times. "I was thinking of sending Lharika home with Fianna. Let them spend some time together."

A nod to Lateef before she hugged in Lark, giving the girl a smile and inserting humor into her voice. "We all keep telling her that men aren't partial to twigs, but she just won't believe us." Herding Lharika agan with another nod of goodbye to Lateef. "Lharika...why don't you go see Glynnic today? You haven't been to see him in a while, I'm sure he'd love a visit." And if not, she was writing to him.

She clung to her son as her last living memory of her husband and gave a nod. "That poor girl is only being dragged down into the miry pit with us, my son. You and I...we need to be there for a while but she doesn't." Yes, Elaria was aware that she was depressed and grieving and she was also aware of how dangerous it could be. Death had been constantly on her mind and she still hadn't made up her mind whether or not she still wanted to live.

She was idly twisting the ribbon on the end of her long braid, not really paying attention until her name and her beloved's caught her attention. "Hm? Oh, he's fine. There's some kind of issue in Carris that he's handling but he said he'd let me know when it was all taken care of. He sends his love."
PostPosted: Sun Feb 08, 2009 1:32 pm

"Which is why I think it's best for her, for a while." Him and his mother were more or less the only ones they each admitted to how bad they were off, despite it being plainly obvious to everyone else as well. Especially if his mother decided that she didn't want to be without his father. Considering Lark's past...he worried about how the girl was taking all of this as well, she didn't say too much on it.

"There's always an issue somewhere, constantly, Lharika. You can't let those things get in the way. Besides, if you marry him they'll be your issues too." Fianna was well aware of how those two felt about each other and until the recent death in the family, Lhairks spent a lot of time in Carris. "How about if he comes and see you then? If he is dealing with something, I'm sure he can use a break."

"Yes, and Fianna won't keep her from seeing her young man. I do hope there's going to be a wedding soon." Keeping her arm through her son's, she slowly made her way down the stairs. Sometimes it felt to her as if she'd aged overnight. "He's such a nice boy and they might really be able to work that change you're always going about."

"I'm prepared for that. Issues have never bothered me but I'm a distraction to him and he doesn't need those." She saw what her mother was trying to do but right now she just wanted to be alone. "I'll send him a note and see if he'll come. A break might indeed do him so good." Then she'd just say that he'd linked her with his regrets and promised he'd see her soon.
