Tomkin had been established. Although in his heart, the leader knew at some point followers would be come to the territory he had staked out, it was still somewhat of a disbelief that the pack had managed to gather as many wolves as it did. It was still a small number in comparison to larger, older, more prospering packs, but it was on its way, and was successful so far. And more members were to come. The growing tension between the territories to the west was starting to creep throughout the woods, spreading like an infectious disease, and feeling it spread threw his paws up into the rest of his body, Aguta knew that Tomkin would find it hard pressed to stay neutral.
While he disagreed with involving the whole pack, he wasn't above including his price. After all, he lived for opportunity, and his services were for sale. That was the theme for Tomkin. A band of wolves, an guild of assassins, as it were. Ebony paws traveled lightly through the slushy earth, covered by patches of dingy white where snow was slowly soaking away. A mission was what prompted him to move this day. Shifting through the dense foliage, he breathed in slowly, not pausing to note the breath puffing from his maw, nor how a light breeze lightly whipped past, only paying enough attention to gather what he needed. His eyes never ceased moving.
Before he realized it, he had stopped. Raising his tail, he glanced to his left, having heard a distance shuffle in the distance. So he wasn't alone this night.

Lumbering across the sodden ground the massive wolf made his way through the thickening undergrowth. Competing with shrubs and taking care with his footing on the slick ground required some thought, though he'd coped with far worse. It was still early though the sun had given way to the moons reign and the stars had only just started flicking into view in the navy blue sky.
The temperature was dropping and before long he was going to have to find somewhere suitable to rest. Apart from the soft swishing noises of the shrubs as they brushed his body and the metallic click of the shackles embracing his forepaws the night was silent. Inhaling the cool air deeply he noted an unfamiliar scent upon it, there was another wolf about, male and from the strength of it, very close. Pausing for a moment he raised his head to look about him.
Amber eyes didn't find what his nose told him was there, the undergrowth was too thick. Thus following his nose he crept closer. Pushing through his eyes finally came to rest upon the other. The strange male was of similar size to himself, slightly taller perhaps but not as heavily set as Blank. His eyes scanned across the other male and after some examination he came to the conclusion that he did not wish a confrontation with such a creature and more to the point there was no reason to instigate one.
Blank sauntered out from the remains of the undergrowth and blinked slowly at the other male in acknowledgement.

The other male kept his silence as he fluidly pulled from the brush, and for a moment, the painted wolf observed him, taking particular notice to the scars that riddled his muscular body, as well as the human objects at his paws. This perhaps intrigued him most; after all, anything of the human persuasion collected his thoughts. However, he didn't ponder at it long and instead focused on the stranger. Blinking, he gave a short nod for a greeting, uncertain if he should be first to speak or the brown male. It not mattering to him, he started, "Evening."
The male wouldn't linger long, not unless there was business to be made here. He was, after all, on the job. Even so, Aguta was always willing to strike a deal, especially if this canine had sought him out...he didn't presume as much, and reserved his thoughts of the wolf for him to answer if he would so wish it. This was probably a random encounter, and he knew this. "May I ask what brings you here at this hour?"
The tall male shifted slightly, keeping his crystal eyes locked on the other male.

Amber eyes met those of crystal blue and he held the stare evenly. He rumbled in a deep baritone voice, 'Evening.' Staring down at his fore paws he flicked one out in front of him, the metal shackle rolling around slightly, the weight of the remains of the chain drawing it back, holding it there for a second and then placing it back down on the sodden ground. He added to his greeting, 'Well, in answer to your question, my paws did.' He raised his eyes again and placed them back in line with the other males eyes.
He chuckled in good humour, the sound a deep rumbling at the back of his throat. 'Too be honest my friend, since my escape from the men, I've simply been enjoying the freedom of simply walking.' Which was true, Blank was rather laid back, he always had been until driven to fighting and working by the men. Right now he wondered the land with out rime nor reason.

This male could hold his stare...he was thankful to not have someone in his presence who would cower down in submission immediately, and as he stared back, he listened to his voice and the greeting he gave in return. His eyes followed the glint of the metal, transfixed on the intriguing object once again as the amber male also seemed to give the chains a bit of attention. His eyes flicked back up to the male's face as he listened to his explanation just in time to have Blank's meet his once again. It was a logical answer.
"Ah," he murmured lowly, further interested as the male allowed him a bit of insight to his past and how he had now entered this territory. "So you've spent time with man? I can see their treatment wasn't exactly humane," Aguta made notice before continuing, "How did you come to be with them, if you don't mind my asking?"

Blank held eye contact with the other male for a moment longer, taking in his words and then his eyes wondered and his attentions drifted to his own thoughts on the matter. The other wolf seemed somewhat interested in his human contact and he supposed that this could be of some interest to a wolf with no or little exposure to such creatures.
He flicked his gaze once more down at his shackles and then smiled to himself. ‘I suppose everything I bear, scars and adornments, are from my contact with humans, directly or indirectly. Though, I must say they are not all cruel in nature.’ He shifted his weight slightly and stood straight and proud, a grin slowly stretching across his face, ‘I stand before you because of the justice of another group of Humans which attacked those which had held me for so long.’ He shifted his weight again and his stance dropped to something far more casual and far more relaxed, much more his style. ‘As for how I came about to be in the possession of the humans, well I was an adolescent at the time and as we all are at that age; we are curious souls. I wondered too far from my pack and was captured, shall we say, by the humans to whom I remained with until a couple of nights past.’
Blank held no malice, it was not his style. He accepted such things happened, be them good or bad, dealt with them and then moved on from such events, hopefully more the wiser or if not, more learnt. Of course there were things that would boil his blood if he pondered on them for a certain amount of time but good rarely came of such things.
He fixed his amber eyes back onto the male in front of him and asked his own question, ‘I don’t know this area well at all, I don’t suppose you could direct me to somewhere where I could rest out of harms way.’ His eyes rested upon his, awaiting an answer.

With interest peeking in his eyes, he listened to the story the stranger told him, and always with fascination when it came to humans and their myriad of differences, he tired to imagine Blank's ordeal mentally. Aguta understood that many humans were different. He observed from both the light skinned and the darker cruelty as well as kindness, but unlike Blank, he had never experienced it firsthand. Instead, he collected these stories from others and watched them in the dead of night, mesmerized by their fires and their strange talk.
So he had a hard time of it when he was young and was then rescued by another group of humans. "I understand," Aguta commented, shifting his position slightly as they spoke. He wouldn't ask him any further information of his youth, after all, it wasn't really relevant to the now, and Blank had answered his question with more than he expected to receive, which pleased him. The wolf was certainly an interesting character. Perhaps he could even learn a bit from him, but all of that could only be assumed if he lingered within Tomkin.
This was what came to mind when Blank asked if he would be given a place to rest. "My pack's den isn't too far from here, if you don't mind traveling a little ways. I wouldn't mind you resting there if you'd like. It's a large area and perfectly comfortable," he told him, turning his body to face the direction of the den, "If you'd like to follow me, I will direct you there."

Flicking his eyes downwards and lowering his nose slightly before bringing it back to rest in the natural, casual position between his shoulders he acknowledged the invitation and responded in his deep, rich baritone voice, ‘Mind walking a way? Not at all my friend, lead on.’ Walking at his own pace all day was something new to Blank and so he had generally been setting a very easy pace for himself after so many years of long gruelling runs, it was nice to take it easy, so his energy reserves were, as of yet, untouched.
Though night had fallen and the ground underfoot was currently wet and muddy which made it tricky in places and wasn’t the sort of ground to be travelling upon at night and a little excessive rest wouldn’t harm him.
With care he place each paw, his eyes scanning the ground approaching him and every so often he cast his eyes upwards to catch the male who led him, though his nose was the organ which was used predominately for that role. His newly made acquaintance seemed to only say what was necessary, no excess chatter, which Blank didn’t mind at all so he followed in silence.

He gave a nod as Blank gave his okay to continue, and as he swiveled around to canter a few paces away, he halted only briefly before slowing the pace and allowed Blank to join his side. Their traveling wouldn't be long, thankfully. Blank was right to assume Aguta would be quiet. He hardly asked anything unless prompted to by some willful thought, and usually only responded when prodded for an answer. Thus their walk went in silence as expected.
Upon arriving at the open mouth of the den, Aguta paused, turning back to stare at Blank with his own bare expression. "This is the den of Tomkin, the largest cave opening in the immediate area. It leads off into different caverns and trails farther beneath the surface, but for now we'll be resting in the front corridor," he explained, moving forward once more to find himself in the confines of the dusty mouth. He wouldn't be sure other members of the pack would appear, but he was certain that Blank's staying wouldn't be of any trouble to the different members. "Feel free to make yourself comfortable."

Blank strode forward, passing the male on his right and taking a look around, his amber eyes observing the large cave opening and noted various smaller openings that branched off from the main area which they now stood. Not wanting the possibility of having a draft bother him he sat with his back to a solid rock wall away from any of the openings.
He then focused his attentions back upon the male who had led him here. Still he did not know his name, but Blank rarely asked for such things, he generally used other forms of address anyway, even when he knew the wolf’s name. He sat in a relaxed pose, his back legs kicked out in the same direction underneath him and his forelegs supporting the remaining weight, display the white cross of fur clearly on his chest.
‘So, friend, the den of Tomkin,’ repeating the other wolfs words, ‘I’m guessing then that is the name given to this pack. It is a long time since I was around and in such an environment. I mean working with dogs for men, it has a pack structure of sorts but not how I remember it as a pup.’ His amber eyes focused upon the crystal blue of the other males and he tiled his head to one side and a grin slid up the side of his face. He wondered if the other male shared his thoughts much.

Aguta sat back, his eyes positioned on the other male observing him as he in turn looked around his new surroundings. It was when their eyes met once more that they were capable of continuing their conversation. The alpha's dark tail wrapped around his hip, flicking there before becoming still. The fur about his shoulders was sprawled out as if on end, but his expression and nothing more of his posture gave off any sort of threatening aura, instead he stared back at the male calmly and with interest.
He listened to what he had to say, giving a firm nod as Blank assumed the pack's title, confirming his assumption without words as he was still listening to the comment he was making. Aguta had observed before the way human's moved about, working with their dogs and other animals they made to serve them, and noticed how there was usually one or two alpha among them and any children the bore or any animal under their care were lesser members of this so called pack. All though they were similar, the differences between a human's and his was unquestionable. "I can understand they are considerably different," he answered him, still intrigued by his association with man.
"Tomkin itself isn't structured like most packs. It's far more open, free, but still secretive. Members are allowed to move about freely, tend to daily life as they see fit as long as what they do does not jeopardize the pack. But what I think makes us most unique is that we have a bit of a business going. Most packs are family units, while Tomkin is only brought together with the opportunity of wealth in mind. Many of our members are bribed to perform tasks for other associates. At times, even multiple members work together."

Blank listened intently, the male spoke of a free and open structure, something he did not remember when he was growing up as a pup, but then he truly did not take much of an interest at such an age and was rarely effected by it anyway. He liked the idea of having a free reign and yet somewhere to come back to and rest safely in the company of those he knew and Blank was a social wolf, roaming as a loner, although he enjoyed the freedom, would not suit him forever.
His ears flickered forward at the mentioning of business and work though. What was even more interesting was that the work came from other packs and wolves. His amber eyes took on an intense spark and he inquired, 'What sort tasks are we talking of here?' his voice rumbled deep within his throat.

Aguta watched his guest carefully, but scarcely stared, not intent on being rude to the lone wolf whose behavior he had hardly had a taste of. The interest in the other's eyes was reassuring, pleasing. But would it hold even after Aguta lay flat exactly what sort of jobs he was referring too? He wasn't one to fluff facts, preferring to spill them with frank promptness rather than mask his intentions, or at least when it didn't matter if it was beneficial to him or not. He shifted slightly, growing serious, his lids falling half mast.
"I won't lie to you, and I hardly see any benefit in beating around the bush," he answered Blank, glancing again for a short moment to the chains about his ankles, "Assassination. I find, though an unconventional career choice, it proves advantageous. It's not in the least bit glamorous, but this is how I live, as well as a few members of Tomkin." His eyes came again to the male's golden amber and there they rested, looking to calculate his reaction.

Blanks eyes didn't flinch or falter as the other male outlined the packs nature, it was just the way of things, such wolves would be created because of the needs of others. Though a sadden sort of glaze did cross his eyes momentary. A deep rumble followed, 'I am have seen much blood, mistreatment and death in my time and I am not even old and grey yet.' He smiled ruefully and then added, 'But we all do what we must.'
After a moment of remembering past events Blank offered himself, 'I would like to think I could be of some use to you and your pack. I have long had somewhere to call home and others to call friends. I would think my past experiences would be of great benefit to this pack and to those with that you work. If you would consider me allowing to call this my resting grounds, I have one request, that I can choose the jobs I wish to take on.'
Blank, underneath all his boyish ruff and tumble was a sensitive creature and he had been forced to fight other dogs and creatures. Now his own master he would only do what he perceived as right and just, he did not desire any more innocent lives to fall under his fang.

The alpha listened to him intently, watching his expression falter prior to the words before picking back up and giving a firm explanation of his offering and application. No doubt Aguta was interested, but perhaps more intrigued by what he had to say other than offering his services and asking to join. His little requirement was something the large male could certainly fulfill as most members were free to choose what sort of projects they so wished to pursue or, in some cases, avoid. With a firm nod (no smile embraced his expression, not even for a new member looking to fill Tomkin's ranks) Aguta accepted Blank's words.
"I am thankful you are considering joining Tomkin. I have no doubt that you would be a valued member and I won't deny that you interest me," he paused slightly, shifting a bit. "Of course. I never force any of my pack mates into a job or deny them a wish to track whatever bounty they want. So long as what you do does not compromise the condition of the pack, you are welcome to come and go as you please."
