For most, it was a passable day. The sun was bright, but the sky was more like a gray haze, with thin clouds stretching over the sky like soot, standing around with no wind to send them along. Though there were birds chirping in the trees of the palace's garden, they remained unseen, the only creatures who dared betray their presence as a certain pale Tabula walked along a random path, head lowered and gaze to the ground. His mind far from his surroundings, Jaydon was content to walk alone, the coat that had been forced on him tied about his waist as soon as he was out of sight. It was funny, really, how the palace staff (and just about everyone else) insisted that he stay as warm as possible, when really it made him quite uncomfortable; sick, even.
Which is why he was walking about with no real protective clothing when the snow and ice were just beginning to melt. He'd thought about going outside the gates to the city, but there were people who would beg for that coat he didn't need, and he'd feel guilty, and there'd be too many people, and...
Jaydon wasn't sure if he was making excuses or not. Over analyzing was a big thing of his. Like the idea he had in his head, right now, that was consuming both his creativity and awareness. Why, he could literally run into something or someone and probably not even notice.

"Stupid clouds."
Amika walked through the gardens, in a pant suit with boots. She didn't want to wear the slim jacket, but she was a bit cold -- she was only accustomed to cold during night, and even then, it wasn't like this.
"I see the light, but no sun." Referring to the fact that the clouds seemed to stretch -- most times covering the brightness of the sun.
Amika pouted, wanting to feel the sun and take off her annoying jacket. She fumed and walked so much, she bumped into someone without looking and almost fell down. "Oh!" "I'm sorry" said Amika, shaking it off. "I wasn't looking."

Thinking too much was, apparently, a dangerous thing, as an oblivious Jaydon did fall from the collision. With a rather solid thud, he blinked in both surprise and to clear his vision from the water that was welling in his eyes. So, that was pain, he mused. He'd never tried it on purpose, understanding that it was Bad, but other than the shock and tingling, it wasn't so awful. That, and part of him was concerned that whoever he'd bumped into did manage to get hurt.
Before him was another pale Tabula, this one dressed in trousers, mostly in sunny colors, and seemed to have an inner brightness, though at the moment that appeared to be dampened by the weather. Working his mouth around a reply, Jaydon rose to his feet and brushed himself off before he turned his attention to the young lady, whom he was fairly certain he'd never seen before. Then again, he didn't get out much, so that went for a lot of people.
"It's nothing," he said gruffly, eyes downcast. She didn't look like she was injured... "You are fine?" Okay, he wasn't really paying attention either, and by the slight blush on his face, Jaydon knew it, but he hadn't been expecting company, either. People usually stayed inside on days like today. Usually.

"Oh, dear" said Amika. "I am really sorry." Amika blushed a little, mostly from embarassment. She thought it was that thing called love that Aquinas mentioned once, but later determined that no, because this hurt too much to be love and it felt icky like rain, so it must be that other thing.
"Oh, yes, I'm fine." Amika moved a bit closer -- "are you sure you're ok?" -- and placed a hand on his arm, gently. "You don't look like fine to me." She made a small grin and nodded her head to the side a bit. "You look like you're not having much fun."

Jaydon absently waved away Amika's apology, momentarily opting not to speak. He'd probably sound angry or something, trying to talk at a regular volume. At least, that's what it seemed like, to him. He closed his eyes for a moment, then nodded at the girl's questions.
"I am sure." His arm gave a spastic twitch at her touch; she felt so warm...he wasn't sure if he liked the feeling or not. There weren't too many who'd spoken to him, let alone touch him. He knew the touch of things, many things, but a person? That made him wonder, too - did a Tabula feel different from a normal person?
"I was thinking," he said as he pulled his arm away. Jaydon wasn't sure if that counted as 'fun' or not, so he didn't bother putting it into perspective.

"Oh, I see." Amika wondered what was he doing here alone -- yes, 'thinking' of course. But...why? "What were you 'thinking'?" asked her as she moved again, almost standing by him. He acts so weird!, she thought. Why is he like a cloud?
Amika folded one of her hands behind her, and stretching out the other one, said: "Well, my name's Amika."

"Jaydon," he said with a slight nod, not entirely sure he wanted to answer the other Tabula right away. "People say it's bad to over-think, but is that possible?" It was something, really. He obviously had too much time on his hands, which were stuffed into his pockets after a swift handclasp with Amika. Touch was something he needed to decide if he liked.
"I was thinking..." Jaydon trailed off for a moment, his gaze falling on the fountain in the center of the garden and absently heading towards it. "Of things. Many of them."

Amika smiled, uttering under her breath his name as to make sure how he'd pronounced it. "Hmm, I don't know" answered Amika to Jaydon's 'overthinking' question. "I guess if it doesn't hurt..." Amika shrugged: "I never think too much."
Keeping up with Jaydon as he headed towards the fountain, she asked once again: "What sort of things?" "Bad?" -- she jumped in front of him -- "Good?"

Well, that was definitely one way to see it. The thoughts didn't hurt, really, though Jaydon was still trying to understand the concept of pain, and if it had anything to do with the tingling at his temples. More than anything, though, the thoughts kept expanding beyond his reach, and the Tabula found himself fighting to keep up with them. He frowned slighlty at this realization, because talking with Amika was slowing him down, and that was turning out to be bad. But being Rude was even worse.
"Just...things," Jaydon decided with a shrug. "I...I don't know the word for them. Ideas?" It was like looking at a flower and calling it a rose because you knew the name applied to floral things, but it wasn't the right one. That was bad, too. Jaydon preferred to know what he was thinking or talking about. He gave a frustrated little noise and ran a hand through his hair, trying to chase the elusive thoughts before they ran away completely. Then he would never know.
"What makes a thought good or bad?" he asked, coming to a sudden stop and looking at Amika. It seemed, by his expression, to be a rather important question.

"Ohhh, ideas...." exclaimed Amika as she made a facial expression similar to being wowed off her ideas. She pondered; that actually sounded a bit like what Locke talks about. Maybe Jaydon was helping him? He didn't seem to be having any luck, Amika thought, as he made some weird gesture and a noise. One of the gesture seemed to look like what Aquinas does when he's yelling at her. That didn't make her feel good.
Nor did his sudden question. That didn't sound good either. Well, maybe 'confusing' was a better word.
"Um, good or bad?" Amika looked at him just as he looked at her. His eyes are pretty, she thought. Blue just like the sky where the sun resides. "Hmmm" uttered Amika while she walked around him until she stopped and went to the fountain. "Well...I think" she said as she turned around to him "that bad thoughts are ones that hurt. But then I don't know -- because I think that the sun is good but Aquinas thinks it's bad for me." "So I guess...." Her voice trailed off. She held herself -- it was getting a bit colder now. "You just know?" She frowned sadly -- she really couldn't quite get it on why is something good or bad. "Locke is the one who tells us what's what, though."

Jaydon hadn't really meant to upset Amika with his actions, but that seemed to be the way of it: he usually wound up doing or saying something that was misunderstood.
His brows furrowed into a small V as he listened, eyes on the water's rippling surface and bit his lip in thought. The way Amika explained it made sense, sort of. But that was the problem, he decided. Sort of.
"But what about things that hurt one person, but not another?" he asked out loud. "Or if it was an accident?" He thought over her comment on the sun. "The sun is warm and gives light, so that's good, but maybe too much is bad?" Gah! Frustration again. He was still trying to wrap his brain around that one.
"Maybe we should go ask Locke?" When all else failed, Locke would surely have the answer.

"Eh...." Amika questioned whether that was a good idea. At least with her, Locke seemed to be very busy -- then again, wasn't he always busy? Still, he was the one who knew most where they lived, and he probably would know the answer.
"Yes, I think we should." Amika nodded: "That way, you can stop looking so hurt and we can actually see him."

The infernal banging would not stop, no matter how much Locke willed it.
He had been willing to let Aquinas hide in his chambers once, and the maid had never let him forget it. She'd make sure to clean especially vigorously when she was in a room adjacent or above his. He cried out in frustration and buried his head between his arms. No academic could work under these conditions. Perhaps if he gave her some sort of gift, she'd be placated? He didn't have the faintest idea about what ladies liked to receive as gifts, however, and this proved to be an impediment. Aquinas would not be much help in this case. Perhaps... one of the Tabula? They did seem fanciful, and the maid appeared to like that sort of thing.
Locke swung open the heavy wooden door and stepped out into the hallway. He hoped he'd find one of the Tabula that didn't frighten him. He knew it was silly to be scared of something you were supposed to be taking care of, but some of the Tabula were just... frightening.
He was in the gardens now, and had spotted two of them over by the fountain.
"Hello!" He waved tentatively.

Jaydon didn't quite understand Amika's reaction to his suggestion of Locke. He, himself, had never really had a run-in with him, but maybe that was because Locke was busy all the time.
"I look hurt?" His brows furrowed at her words, confused. He wasn't hurting, because he knew what pain was. Was there somethig else wrong with him that he didn't know about?
Speaking of Locke, there he was, heading towards the fountain. Jaydon seemed to shrink into himself ever so slightly as Locke neared, not used to dealing with more than one person at a time. Still, he'd try.
With a neuteral expression, he waved in return. Seemed that both men were a bit hesitant about this.

Amika was surprised -- to see Locke out of his room was a wonder in and out of itself. For some reason, she couldn't help but grin widely.
"Hello!" waved Amika back. She walked up a bit closer to Locke and motioning Jaydon to perhaps come closer too. She was getting somewhat giddy at the thought of actually being able to talk with Locke -- and maybe at last find some answers.
"Locke, sir, Jaydon and I -- that is, we were talking here about some things that we thought you could help us with."
"What do you think makes a thought good or bad?"
