Aaaalrighty then. It's pretty early, but my bd told us what the basic theme for our show will be...an 80s theme! Not just the music from the 80s, but the history, popularity of things (pacman!), and more. She told us that some of the music will probably be The Police (I went CRAZY over this), Beethoven's 9th (for the fall of the Berlin Wall- actually, the guy writing our show wants us to have a giant Berlin Wall prop and have us knock it down at the end of the show, however that would work xd ), and...we haven't been told anything else. My bd told us that they were meeting on friday to discuss the plans for the show. But it sounds like it's gonna be awesome...and all the seniors that are graduating are jealous because they don't get to do it. xd (Especially my old section leader, he loves The Police...)
Sooo, any word for anyone else's shows, yet? I know it's a bit early to be thinking about...but I'm excited for mine. =D
Edit: Alrighty, so we've gotten some of our music, and we got to hear what else we'll be playing awhile ago. Part 1 is basically a mash-up of a bunch of small, patriotic themes, most likely having a voiceover. I think it deals with Pearl Harbor. Part 2...I'm not so sure about this one and Part 4, but I know we'll be playing an awesome version of the Ferris Bueller theme, Journey, and a lot of other songs basically mashed together and flowing from parts of one song to the next. From what I've heard, it sounds really cool. Part 5, our closer, is Ode To Joy, except it's really intense. I'm pumped for this show! I'm just worried, because we have a month off before band camp this year...nice, but it makes me a bit nervous.

Ooh, 80s theme sounds awesome. We did an 80s show last year with Footloose, Spin Me Right Round, Tainted Love, 99 Luftballons, etc. That's a good idea about incorporating events though.
Right now we're in the cut tape submission stage (anyone in band can submit their idea for a show, and later the best ones are selected to perform next season). I was thinking of making a Musicals cut tape, but I heard someone else already did, which is great cause I'm lazy. xD
I haven't heard from any others what they're submitting yet though. Who knows, if I recover from my laziness I may make a Hall and Oates tape.

Mirienne Right now we're in the cut tape submission stage (anyone in band can submit their idea for a show, and later the best ones are selected to perform next season). I wish our band did that. Anyways, our BD said something about a possible Duke Ellington-themed show for next year. Of course, this was way back sometime in September/October, so it might not be that anymore. My personal hope is Fantasmic, but that's for the 2010 season.

My BD is so hypocritcal >.< She tells us to suggest themes to her, and she never takes any of the suggestions, nor thinks about them. So everyone in the band is all, "NO FANTASIA PLZ!!!" and now she's all, "Year after next, we're going to do Fantasia!" sweatdrop
I'm not sure what our theme for next year will be, but a fairly influential friend of mine sent her some suggestions from msconcepts (the only site she lets us use, because of course the only thing we can write for marching shows is our own guard work, even though before she got there the shows were written FROM SCRATCH!!!) and they were some good-sounding ideas. He's pretty much like teacher's pet (but he has a lot of sense, thank goodness) so she might actually take time to consider his reccommendations.
Gosh darnit, if it weren't for the fact that I love spinning a flag so much, I'd quit marching band because of her. But unfortunately many people have been quitting for that very reason. (She's screwed us over more times than I have the patience to keep track of.)
One of the suggestions that my friend sent was Star Wars, and though I know that she's probably not going to choose it, I'm hoping for a miracle. (Guard spinning light sabers would be pretty kickass.)
EDIT: We're most likely doing a Copland show.
DOUBLE EDIT: Our show theme is "Copland Lives!" We're doing Fanfare for the Common Man, Hoedown, The Promise of Living (and it seems like everyone is dyslexic with this title... everyone calls it "Promise of the living" but that connotes a totally different meaning), and Copland Finale.

Alright, lately my band director has been going CRAZY over old music.
It started with our 2007 show 'Music from the Soul' which had all this soul music like, "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" "Soul Finger" "Shaft" and "Soul Man", and we sucked, badly.
Our come back year was 2008 - 2009 with "Earth, Wind and Fire" more music from the 80's and what not. We kicked butt with 'In the Stone' 'Fantasy' 'After the Love Is Gone' 'Lets Groove'. Absolutely amazing music.
Now, this coming year, 2009 - 2010, the only hint I really got was 'Tower of Power' which the girl I sit beside said was another band from back then. @x@ Grah, I'm always so confused around this time of the year, whether things are rumors or not. Hoping for something fresh this coming season!

My BD hasn't decided yet, but he said it won't be anything like this year. He wants to have some change. I think another rock show would be awesome, though his idea of a soundtrack(Don't know which one yet) is pretty thought-inducing too. This year, our theme was Golden eagle Rock Tour(We are the Golden Eagle Marching Band.) We did these awesome songs in this order: Rebel yell-Billy Idol Dirty Deeds done dirt Cheap=ac-dc Wanted Dead or Alive( heart One of my fave somgs)-Bon Jovi Sweet Chld o' Mine-Guns n Roses
Seriously! It was awesome! And we rocked too. It wa sone of our best yeaars at the beginning. We had straight excellents. I'm hoping we get a fun show like that next year, or at least we do as well or better. Who knows, maybe we will have straight superiors. I know if I become section leader, there will be some serious practicing. I have plans.
(By the way, do you think candy would be a good bribe tool to get a section to practice? I mean, during sectionals every week asking everyone how many days they practiced and giving them a piece of candy for each day? I know they will probalby lie, but I have ways. I willl find out or send them on guiklt trips. I'm good at that...)

It would for me. =D My section leader was planning on bribing everyone with donuts so we could have sectionals, but he never did...it made me sad. I really wanted those donuts. xd

I am SO stoked for next season. My band director has decided that our show is going to be Gangsta Jazz. Ah if you get the chance to listen to it I think it's fantastic. Very intense, heh I hope we can pull it off rofl
