Jhovam - Future
Setting: Jhovam's first glimpse of the dragon world.
Summary: Jhovam switched places with his dragon in the middle of the night. He met Cedric in the dragon world, but does not know who he is. Cedric warned him about the dangers of using his magic so young. So Jhovam returned to find his room a mess, including a rather crushed bed. The staff will be looking for wild animals on the premesis for another week or two.

JJhovam tossed and turned under the wool sheets of his meager bed. The young boy's face contorted and relaxed under odd pressures that could only be fully understood by entering his realistic, odd dreams.
"I have an idea," the metallic form across from the swirling field of colors suggested softly.
"Yeah, Rashmak?" Jhovam answered, stretched out amongst the blended blades of grass around him. His form was crisp, and it was well-noticeable that he was wearing his precious silver robe.
"Well, you know how we talk?" The silvery, blurred mass asked.
Jhovam smiled gratefully. "How could I forget? It is wonderful!"
"Well, what if we did more? What if we tried to break down this ... blurry barrier thing between us?"
Jhovam paused for a moment. Mentally, he probed at the blur, thinking nothing would happen. After all, it is just a blur. However, he felt pressure, and probed further to find a barrier around him.
"It seems ... weak." Jhovam observed, astonishment in his voice. "But I can not break through it."
"I think if we both try, we can. Hey, it is worth a shot, right?" The silver mass let off a wave of contempt joy.
Jhovam never saw the details of this silver mass. If the barrier was down, maybe he could see who is imaginary friend really was! Grinning, Jhovam propped himself off the ground onto his elbows. "Let's do it!"
As soon as Jhovam probed the barrier again, he saw his silver blur for what it really was. In front of him stood a lizard, at least two times taller than he was. The deep eyes looked like rippling pools of mercury, and the frilled head shown like polished platinum. His regal wings were folded over the sinuous tail, which appeared to be plated polished steel. Jhovam took in a breath of air (which smelled lightly of Ozone and fresh rain), and felt awe for the beauty of Yghrashmak.
However, that moment was over, for Yghrashmak fell back into a blur, and then vanished completely in a smudge of silver. Jhovam stood still for a second, and then actually looked at his surroundings.
Tall spires of what looked like stone shot up around him, so tall that they might touch the maroon sky. The scarlet-tan grass around him rose up to his waist, and hissed softly under the small zephyr that wisped over the field. Jhovam found it oddly peaceful, but was still at shock at the introduction of a new world.

A large form flew over head; a dragon. It screeched, like a dog that barks to tell you that a visitor has arrived. The dragon was an adult female, bigger than his own dragon. When it flew over him, the shadow was big enough to lower the temperature around him for an instant. It landed near to him and crouched, its neck stretched out towards him curiously. Now another dragon was in the air over head.

Jhovam almost screamed in shock and terror, but his voice was cut off by the blast of icy wind that vanished as soon as it had come. Instead, with the tall grass, Jhovam fell back from the force of the landings, and did not want to rise up to meet the second one. But he knew that hiding in grass wound not stop them from finding him. So, to at least seem like he was harmless, Jhovam rose up with his hands over his head.
"I ... come in peace."

Big reptilian nostrils sniffed a woosh of air past his hands. The dragon lumbered closer. She was a little over weight, so not exactly the most graceful of her type. She moved until her shoulder was next to him, then got down as low as she could. Her long neck curved back as if to say "Well?"

Jhovam paused, watching the Draconic figure. He glanced left, then right, and then finally lowering his hands. Jhovam watched the dragon, then peered at her eyes. "You won't eat me, right? Because I don't taste good, according to my Mistress."
Jhovam watched the other dragon further away, wondering who that was. He smiled, then laughed at the scene. A hulking beast was waiting for a scrony, short teenager in a white, silver, and blue robe!

She brought her head closer with a big, toothy grin. She nudged him sideways, toward her shoulder. The dragon expected him to ride, and if he didn't get on, she was going to carry him in her teeth.
And my, what big teeth she had!

Jhovam figured out what she had meant after the roughish grin, and he approached her back. "Tell me if I hurt you."
He gripped her back spikes, then lifted himself onto her scaly hide.

Hurt her?
What, penetrate the scales on her shoulder and back? Did he think he could possibly be too heavy? The dragon stood up quickly and scampered forward. Even before her wings started beating, it was a bumpy ride. That was because dragon legs are nearly as tall as a human, and with a gait similar to an untrained horse, that meant a lot of up and down with no saddle.
Then when the wings started, the muscles that attached the wings to the dragon's back could be felt as they worked. As the dragon began to lift off the ground, so could the changing air pressure the flapping created. The dragon seemed to laugh at him as they climbed higher, an airy sort of laugh that didn't involve the vocal cords but was nonetheless audible, because of the dragon's huge lungs. They approached another dragon, a male, who led them through the sky.
Jhovam's dragon was careful with him. She knew that dragons weren't really built for riding, although their large wings defied the air currents that most birds depend on. Flying was much smoother than running, so that he could pay attention to his surroundings. In the distance, the grass grew greener and there was a human kneeling beside a much smaller dragon. Soon the distance was shortened and Jhovam could see that the man held a large bottle for the baby dragon, who sucked at it eagerly.
When Cedric looked up, boy was he surprised. "HEY!" he shouted to the female dragon that carried Jhovam. "GET DOWN HERE!" he yelled, not like he thought he could command a dragon, but like he was begging. The dragon started to circle downward.
Cedric was a somewhat tall man, which Jhovam could see as they got closer. He had blonde hair that was greying, light skin, and blue eyes. Definitely a forienger.

Jhovam stared at the man, then began to get off as soon as he touched land. However, he was not yet skilled in dragon riding, and ended up squirming around until he could get one leg over the dragon's spine. As soon as he did that, Jhovam slid down the dragon's side, then whispered, "Thank you for the ride. It was wonderful."
Jhovam turned his attention to Cedric, curious of why another human was here. However, he had questions, and these questions needed answering.
"Where am I?"

Cedric stood with his hands on his hips. The baby dragon behind him was struggling to get milk out of the huge bottle Cedric had put down.
"Some where else, kid. Let me ask-- who's you're name? Where are you from? I'm from a place called Tok, and my name is Cedric." Cedric held his hand up. "Wait, I'm sorry. You have so many questions, and here I am asking my own. Do you know how you got here? Somewhere in the real world you've got one of those running around now," he said, and pointed back to the baby dragon, "but a little older. You, uh, you switched places."
The man was about forty and a little worn looking. If you'd just been wrestling with a baby dragon, you might be too. He wore crisp, black clothes that hung loosely on his frame, blowing with the wind.

Jhovam stood strait, proud to say who he was owned by.
"My name is Jhovam, and I am a proud slave of the Isabel Eldic. I retain the position of medic in the training fields for the other slaves."
The latter questions made Jhovam shrug. "I do not know how exactly I got here. Rashmak, my silver blur-" Jhovam paused for a moment, then corrected himself. "-dragon, sort of wanted to probe at the barrier, and poof! The misty world crispened, the grass grew, Rashmak grew, or I shrunk. I am not sure yet."
Jhovam shifted on his feet, then tilted his head. "Cedric? I think I have heard of that before ... but I am not remembering where."

"You come from Feretris?" Cedric asked after a moment. The man looked a bit pale, like he might be sick. "Come here. Help me feed this baby."
Cedric let Jhovam answer, but he already knew the answer. "Here, we are all kin," he told the boy quietly. "We share our lives with these creatures, these dragons. The dragon you rode on? Somewhere, she is related to you. You and I are related. This baby here is probably your neice. My dragon told me that she was sickly, so I brought her some milk." Cedric cleared his throat in an attempt to clear his mind. He felt like there was something more important to tell his son than all this, but he didn't hit on it until just then. "If you can, Jhovam, I want you to go back. Didn't you feel the least bit disoriented, the least bit hyper, the least bit wild when you came here? That is because your dragon is not ready to do this with you yet. You are not ready. Besides, if the women catch you... I don't want you to go back...but you must go back."
He didn't want the boy to go back? That felt like the biggest understatement that had ever come out of Cedric's mouth. Of course he didn't want his son to go back! His son would never be safe in Feretris, and he would never know any thing but a life of slavery. And he made Cedric feel guilty. Why hadn't the man come to save them all? Cedric knew that it was a fool's errand, trying to track down goodness knows how many children and pull them out. But guilt knew no such thing.

Cedric turned to put a hand on the boy's shoulder, nearly dropping the bottle the dragon was suckling out of. The beast yanked it out of both their hands and started trying to feed itself.
Cedric had both his hands on Jhovam's shoulders now, towering over him at nearly six feet. Obviously, Jhovam got his height from his mother. "That's not important right now!" he said, frustrated that the boy had picked up on the one thing he was trying to let slide. He hadn't had the chance to act like a father, so why should he try to claim the position now? It meant far more to him than it could to a Feretris boy. "Listen to me!" he demanded. "You have to go back! You can't stay here-- and you can't come here again until you're older, ok? Maybe when you're twenty. Please, child. I have a wife who started these things when she was too young, and she's... she's not well. Your dragon can break you. Their memories sit on your mind with a heavy weight, and they don't even do it on purpose. Please."
Cedric would hear a 'Yes Sir' before he would tell the boy who he really was.
