My sister and I had a big discussion about what is a horn. Her bd says its any wind and mine says its any brasswind. Discuss- your opinion of the definition of "horn" (not french horn you goosies)

... a horn is any wind instrument. Like, a bassoon can be a horn just as well as a trumpet or piccollo.

Just for the sake of this comment/joke I'm gonna say it's a brasswind.
The english horn is niether english NOR a horn... I think it's german. xd

I'm going to agree with just about everyone else and say any brasswind, but especially those instruments that are marchable.

a horn is any instrament you blow into. (i.e. snare drums are NOT horns)

I have to go with brasswinds. Woodwinds are just too...well wooden!! Original horns back in the elden days were brass, so just to say the same today they should be also brass!! domokun domokun domokun

Ive always heard any wind instrument called a horn. Professionals have always told people "Grasp your saxophone by the horn" as well as calling it the "Bell." Its either one! besides, it doesnt matter. its just a technical name.

Whenever my BD says "horns," she means any instrument you blow into. She uses "horns" and "winds" interchangably.

we call our mellaphones horns because their like a marching french horn. i know that wasnt what you were talking about...anyway, i think a horn is any instument made out of AND that has a bell: trumps, mellos, saxes, tubas, bones, and such. not clairs or flutes.

and our bd never calls us horns as a group. he says guard, percussion and winds.
