Police find marijuana field on Google Earth Cops in Zurich have stumbled on a field growing £550,000 worth of marijuana ... by using Google Earth.
They were using the satellite mapping software to investigate an alleged drug ring when they spotted the 1.2 tons of marijuana.
The two acre field in northeastern Switzerland was surrounded by corn which meant it would not be seen from the ground.
16 people have been arrested and the gang is thought to have sold up to seven tons of hashish and marijuana over the past seven years.
Officers described the the find as "an interesting chance discovery" ... not the words the gang are using.
Prosecutors in Zurich plans to complete an criminal investigation in February, when the 16 will be formally charged.

In Canada:
Growing marijuana is still illegal, though there is an exception, only for medical usage.
It is currently legal in Canada to use cannabis for medical purposes.
A December 2008 ruling by an Ontario Superior Court judge overturned a decision by a lower court judge last year that found there was no valid restriction against possession of cannabis because of flaws with the country's medical marijuana regulations.
So at it currently stands it is not legal in Canada to use cannabis for recreational, or any other purpose save for medical use.

They are and cannabis use is wildly tolerated by the general public.. just remember that if the cop wants to, they can still bust you.
