Today I had a bad day, a real bad day, my car had reached the point where the service rep advised me to talk to the salesmen rather than the mechanics.
So tonight, I decided to bury my angst under a mountain of comfort food.
So I went to the ONLY Jewish deli I know that's open of Friday night.
What did I eat? To be frank, a Jewish Pu Pu platter... here was what I had.
a plate of half sour pickles.
a cup of matzoball soup.
a plate of chopped liver
a Latke with applesauce and a Beef Knish, with a side of cole slaw.
a Kishke in brown gravy, with a side of fries also in brown gravy.
and two Dr brown diet black cherry sodas.
I think I over did it, I can never tell. Now, I didn't finish everything... about half a cup of the chopped liver came home with me.
But I must ask, what do you consider Jewish Comfort Food?

Lumanny Latkes and (MMMMMM....) Hamentashen when in season. Alright, ready for this... ok ok... check this out... There's a local kosher bakery that makes... get this... Hamentashens... Year... Round... Yeah, how awesome is that?

So, do you eat any other part of the matzoh, or just the balls~?
Seriously, hummus is certainly comfort food for me, even though it's not proper Ashkenazi Jewish.

Love matzah in sheets, but like other holiday food besides latkes, I don't eat it except for on Passover.

I would have had all that (minus the soda and the liver) even if I didn't have a bad day. Now I'm hungry for that stuff... sweatdrop

The story of how Jews created the Bagel and how it came to be known as the awesome food that it is:
Once upon a time there was a place with a king and some Jews who liked the king becuase he was nice to them. He liked riding horses, so for his birthday they created a stirrup-looking food called the Bagel, which means Stirrup in that language.

It's Austrian/German
Stirrup in German is Bügel

(Yes, and original buegels were tough as stirrups, hence the name.)
My Jewish comfort foods:
Chicken soup, with rice or matzah balls or gluten-free potato dumplings
Biryani (chicken, turkey, or lamb)
Tajin (ditto)
Shawarma (chicken or lamb)
Baked zaatar chicken
Palau (pilaf -- rice, couscous, or millet; also called Persian rice/couscous/millet)
Chamin (suspiciously close to biryani or tajin)
Pie, streusel, cobbler, or crumble (cherry, blueberry, blackberry, cranberry, or apple)
Fried chicken with collard greens, butterbeans or black-eyed peas, rice or mashed potatoes, and fresh juicy slices of tomatoes from my grandfather's garden
Pot liquor over rice (pot liquor is the juice left after cooking green vegetables, sometimes along with meat)
Stuffed peppers
Huevos rancheros
Chickpea and pomegranate salad
Great, now I'm hungry. wink
