The curio was not quite sure what was going on. This morning he had suddenly appeared in a strange house and watched a smelly man sleep on a couch. This had been fun. Then the man had woken up, looked confused, made funny pain noises, and crawled away. This had also been good entertainment. While the man had left, the curio had cut up fabric and made himself some clothes. He could not remember learning how to do this, but he had the needle and thread, so why not? And then he had tried to eat the food in the cardboard box, this had tasted very, very bad. Then the man had run downstairs, yelled a lot, looked very scared, picked up the curio, drove him to a far off building, and left him there, driving away very quickly. This had been the most fun thing of all.
Obviously, the curio was going to have to walk back to the man's house. Then he could have even more fun indeed.

Amaranth was pretty sure he wasn't supposed to be there. That is to say that he knew Raina would be worried sick if he was discovered to be wandering around and that he had absolutely no way back to where he was supposed to be, but that was alright. That was partly why he had snuck out in the first place, though now he was beginning to regret it.
Tree, he announced in his head wearily, trying to keep his mind off his bigger-than-small predicament. The small fir bent in turn as if to bow to his thought and he blinked, waving back solemnly.
All it had taken was the smallest hint of curiousity, and then he had discovered that he was a little better at sneaking out locked doors than he thought he was. He reached up absentmindedly and fingered the spike protruding from his neck which showered him with odd and alarmed looks from passerby.
He was lost. And cold. Thinking that he needed to get into a building -that wasn't Raina's, naturally- he pressed his face to the glass of the nearest building window and tried to see through the thick frost.

In front of him, the toddler saw another child. He looked at the child's blonde hair and then fingered his own. This child was obviously his doppelganger to be used later in an amusing plot that probably involved intrigue, so the lad went up to the one with his face pressed against the glass and gave him a dramatic bow. "'Ullo." he said conspiratorially. "Wherefore dost thou make amusing glass-faces?" As an afterthought, he lied "If thou dost do it much longer, thy face shall stick to it." The curio sounded rather hopeful, as if this would make the other boy more interesting than he currently was.

When he opened his inky eyes, most of the forst had melted to create a face-shaped hole in the frost. He reached up with a white robe sleeve and, after a moment's hesitation, wiped away the resulting ice water and stared into sea-grey eyes that shone with a hint of amusement.
He strained to interpret what was being said, and the embellishments that the boy added to his speech did not help one bit.
Hello? Wherefore dawst thowe... glass faces? Dawst, dawst, thai, thai... stick to it.
He blinked and stayed silent, pulling away from the glass reflexively. His face crinkled a little with distaste, but he said nothing, only stared as if this boy would suddenly change his manner of speech into something more understandable.

The curio looked gleeful and crinkled his face back. This was interesting. "Thou art not talky, thou art not. Yet I lik'st thee well, we shall be best friends." He reached to pat the other child on the back. Yes, they could be best friends and then confuse people and cause drama to happen. This was most pleasing to the curio and he thought quickly about how to cement this relationship. Eventually he reached a most excellent conclusion and grinned widely at the compass boy while secretly admiring his own rampant genius. "Walk with me. We shall annoy Funny Man and eat gross foodstuffs called 'pizza'." The plan was totally flawless, and he felt the glow of pride in his chest.

In suddenly noticing the brilliant flaxen shade of his newfound companion's hair, Amaranth reached up instinctively to the unkempt, snow-brushed mess of his own and played with the nearest strand, trying to find a way to wiggle out of this newest development.
Seriously, he had just wanted to get out and have some freedom, except now he saw what freedom entailed- creepy little boys who couldn't speak English properly. Still, as the other boy spoke up again, he couldn't help but try to understand it again, this time having less trouble.
Thowe art not... talky? I likes-tuh you well... best friends- best friends?!?
His eyes widened in surprise. He didn't even have a regular friend yet (because Raina didn't count), so he felt a bit of interest electrify his heart. Still, his poker face remained stitched on just in case the guy was a pretty big joker.
"Is 'pizza' good...?" he ventured quietly, taking slow, measured steps with the conscious decision to follow the other boy.

Gregory pondered this question. "No." he said. "Tis a food most foulle indeed and even I recoil from it with great fear. But alas, 'tis all Funny Man has to eat, which explains most succinctly why he is so very funny." He looked at Amaranth. "Let us go anyway." he suggested. "Thou can decide for thyself whether pizza is foulle. Then we shall be best friends forever." Having agreed with himself upon this course of action and assumed that the other boy also agreed without really asking him if he did or not, Gregory reached for the other boy's hand so he couldn't escape and began walking towards the Funny' Man's home. It was a long walk, but he would make it in good time. He had a most excellent turn of speed about him.

"Why would pizza be a chicken?" Amaranth asked after a moment. It was all he understood completely from what the other boy was saying, but, ironically, it made no sense at all.
To be honest, he didn't know if he'd like his new best friend very much. He talked too much, and to make that even worse, half the stuff he said was pure nonsense. He was about to protest when his hand was suddenly grabbed, causing him to cry out.
"H-hey," he started uneasily, though he was whisked off with such speed that he had to concentrate on not slipping on the ice. "Wh-where are we going...?!?"
Though his wrist jerked with every few steps, eventually he gave up and allowed himself to be towed, though his eyes glinted with the trepidity of his actions.

"I spoke not of chicken," Gregory explained patiently, "I spoke of disgusting pizza." The other boy could be addled in the brain, reflected the Shakespearean lad worriedly. This was not looking good for their future best frienditude, but he had chosen him so he adamantly decided to stick to him. "Come!" he encouraged. "Thou shall see soon enough."
Finally, he made it to the apartment. "Let us ascend." he said grandly, and paused. There was an elevator, but Gregory didn't understand those contraptions. He looked around and made a beeline for the stairs. "it is only a few floors up!" he encouraged. "Most simple."
