The Necromerchant's Debt: the ten-minute opera by Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich that eventually morphed into our beloved Repo! The Genetic Opera.

Who's actually heard it and what did you think?

It's available to buy on CD Baby but unfortunately, they're out of stock.
sweatdrop However you can enter your e-mail address to be alerted when they do get some in, if you really want it.

All three songs from The Necromerchant's Debt (Anno Domini, Genetic Repo Man, and Daybreak in the Graveyard) were played on KrisB's radio show if you want to hear them. They're interspersed throughout the show, along with some other really interesting demos and old stage show versions. (This includes a demo of Terrance singing Thankless Job, and the song Don't Poop In My Pool! Definitely worth a listen. Plus CJ was very informative and entertaining to listen to.)

Now, onto my own opinion: I actually like Anno Domini better than 21st Century Cure. This version of Genetic Repo Man I like better than the movie one as far as music goes (although lyrically I think the movie one is better), and Daybreak in the Graveyard is just awesome.

If I had to choose, I'd much rather get to see a recorded version of The Necromerchant's Debt than the 10-minute Repo! movie.

Zydrate comes in a little glass vial
And the little glass vial goes into the gun like a battery...

I haven't heard it yet and I want to so badly. I've only heard: Stage Version, Pre-Surgery Sampler, and the official soundtrack. I'm going to put my e-mail on that site though for when (hopefully) they go back in stock. I'm going to try to listen to the radio show sometime today. I love all the music from Repo! so I want to hear EVERYTHING.

Do you think they'll EVER release the 10-minute opera that they did? I'm dying to see it.

...And the Zydrate gun goes somewhere against your anatomy
And when the gun goes off it SPARKS and you're ready for surgery.

I really don't know. I hope they do. I think I'm going to send Terrance a message on Myspace asking if it's possible to release a video of it. (Legally, I mean, since they've already said they can't do the 10 minute short.)

Why can't they release the 10-minute opera? That's sad. I wish there was SOME way we could see it.

Essentially it has to do with how much the actors are paid. It was filmed as something not to be released; just a way to get funding for the project. If it's ever sold, the actors and crew involved have to be paid for it.

There's always the possibility of it getting leaked, though. (SpookyDan I'm looking at you.)
