Kisa wandered through the halls, science book in one hand and a half-eaten apple in the other. Crunching down on it, the girl played around with chemical equations in her head. She wasn't terribly fond of maths, but when it was math that involved science somehow, it was worth doing. After all, she'd never make it to space without science! Besides, she had a natural ability to understand it. Especially physics. Biology had a little more trouble for her, moreso than chemistry even. Still, she was soldiering through it with a little help.
Absently, she looked up from her book to make sure she didn't bump into anyone and recognized a familiar face-- someone she'd seen around the holiday party, though she hadn't talked to her. Smiling and grateful for the idea of a break, she took another bite of her apple, chewed it, and stuffed the chemistry book in her backpack, "Heya," she said, going over to the girl, "Pretty busy in here, huh? Time for exams is always like that though, it seems."

Ophelia, half-asleep in her biology textbook, snapped awake and looked at the girl who had spoken to her. "Yeah," she agreed, yawning and trying to figure out what had been asked. One minute she'd been reading about mitosis, and now this? She rubbed her eyes.
"Exams," she said, blinking. "Yeah, it's crazy."
She did not think she knew this girl's name, even though they had gone to school together for months now.
"I'm Ophelia," she said, still a bit groggy. She was putting so much work into her paintings that it was starting to disrupt her sleep schedule.

Kisala grinned, "Kisala. Or Kisa, whatever you prefer...." she peered at the girl's biology text. She didn't have biology this semester, but she'd had some introduction to it before, "Tough stuff, huh?"

"Sorta," nodded Ophelia. "It's just a lot to absorb, kinda hard to wrap my head around how small all this stuff is, you know? Everything on the cellular level - it's tiny! But it's better than taking Chemistry or Physics, I think - I'm terrible at math."
"What science do you take?" she asked.

Kisala grinned, "Chemistry right now. But, physics is my favourite. I'm going to be an astronaut, so I've got to get as much science under my belt as possible."
The girl sat down next to Ophelia, setting her book bag down on the table, "I'm not much good with math either, but when it's put together with science or music it makes more sense."

"I'm going to be a painter," said Ophelia, thinking that it suddenly sounded a whole lot less impressive when put next to Kisala's dream.
She stared down at her biology textbook. "I've got chemistry next semester," she said, "So I guess I'll find out then."
She smiled. "We've gotta have some classes in common," she said. "Why don't we study together?"

Kisala beamed, "Oooh, that'd be neat! Painting, I mean. I'm not much good with it myself-- I'm better with numbers and stuff, but, I like looking at 'em."
She pulled out a couple of her books, "I've got English, Ancient History, Chemistry, Health and Music this semester."

"We could study for English," suggested Ophelia. She leaned over to pull a notebook out of her bag. "I've got my notes on the novel we're studying in here somewhere," she added, flipping through page after page of neat, girly handwriting. "Did you like it? I thought it needed more action bits, and the heroine was too much of a priss."

Kisala grinned. -Now- Ophelia was speaking her language, "I know! I get so tired of these stories where the heroines do -nothing- but sit about and wait for rescue or whatever. Why don't people realize that us girls can take care of ourselves too!"
She knew for certain -she'd- never just stand about if someone were in trouble! Especially if it were herself! Her adoptive mother had taught her all kinds of self-defense, after all. She could take care of things if necessary!

"Yeah," nodded Ophelia. "I will be more than happy when we finish our unit on early feminist literature. I cannot believe that women had nothing better to do back then than sit around and complain."
She found her notes and skimmed them for a moment. "Do you remember if this is going to be an essay exam? Or just multiple choice?"

The girl flipped through a few pages of incredibly disorganized (especially considering her penchant for logic) notes before she got to the pages on the English test, "It's gonna be mostly multiple choice with a few short essays," she said, "I think she said there might be some vocab matching too, but not much. I'm okay with the matching and multiple choice, but I always have trouble with short essays. They're not like long essays with the nicely mapped out format."

"I'm not too bad at essays - short or long," said Ophelia, and sighed wistfully. "I just wish we got to do more creative writing!"
She glared at the book in front of her and then put it aside to look for her vocabulary word notes. Finding them, she surveyed them and then asked, "Want to quiz each other? What's a requiem?"

Kisala wracked her brain.
"Requiem...is..um...a mass for the dead?" She giggled. Vocabulary wasn't so hard because it was pretty logical. It was the creating sentences bit and the writing paragraphs bit that usually got her.

Ophelia nodded. "Yeah," she said, "That's it."
She scanned the list, looking for something a bit harder. Ooh, this one was a bit tricky! "How about 'Draconian'?" she asked.

Kisala tilted her head thoughtfully, "Well, Draco means dragon, right? So, something to do with dragons? Dragon-like?"
Word bases were the absolute most fun, because you could use them to figure out just about any word.
