"Now Iris, listen to Grandma okay?" Triton asked of his (overly) hyperactive daughter as he double checked to make sure he had everything he needed.

He was surprised at first that Lin hadn't begged to join, but she had said something about, if she was going to travel it was going to be with Earendil first. That made him chuckle a bit as he made sure his sword was strapped to his back, along with his throwing stars at his belt. He checked his boot for his knife... maybe Donovan's paranoia was rubbing off on him he thought absently.

"Mew...." Iris pouted but did as her father wanted, but still, she didn't want him to go.

"Be good," he murmured and making sure she was out of the room (lest she dash into the portal) he then went through into the Borderlands.

It was early summer in the Borderlands, but though the day was warm it was gray and slightly drizzly. The birds were hidden away in their nests, and the forest was silent and still, void of the animals that usually crept about freely.

Triton looked up and his ears pressed flatly against his head. Rain... how he disliked it like any good feline, even though he wouldn't complain if he had to travel in it. Hefting his bag on his shoulder he trudged his way to the house his mother and Lin had described. Then again it was easy, he had seen Aliya's house after all so it was the matter of picking the one out of the three he could see right off the bat that he didn't recongize.

He knocked on the door, he had something for Cindy, which was why he was going there first instead of Ulani and Ulrich's.

It was Shael who opened the door, her long hair braided over her shoulder, and when she saw Triton standing in the rain, water dripping from his ears and hair, her brow furrowed with worry and she opened the door wider.

"You must be a Winters," she murmured, moving aside to make room for him. "Come in, come in. You'll be wanting to see Cindy, I presume?"

Triton nodded with a small smile, it shouldn't be a surprise pretty much anyone who didn't look like anything locally or in this world was probably a Winters.

"I was going to drop by Ulrich and Ulani's first, but then I have something to give to Cindy, so I thought I would come here first."

"Well, you're welcome to stay for a bit," Shael smiled warmly, closing the door behind Triton to keep out the rain. "I've got hot water on to boil, I can offer you tea or something else hot to warm you up ..."

Rhea, eleven years old now and a slender, pretty girl, already showing promise of great beauty, and as tall as Triton, stepped out of the study, her expression curious, enormous staff in hand. Following her was Whisper, identical to the day she had grown to adulthood.

"Hello," she said to Triton with a bright smile, her eyes sparkling mischievously. "You're Triton, right?" She gripped her staff with both hands and turned to Shael. "Mama, shall I get Cindy for him?"

Shael nodded, and girl and cat ran towards the stairs.

"Tea sounds wonderful actually," Triton admitted.

He judged Rhea to be around ten or so, since he didn't know when she was born or how much time had pasted. It was going to be weird he thought having Cindy so old chrologically speaking.

"And I see the fluffball grew," he chuckled.

Shael laughed and motioned for Triton to follow her down the hall, towards the kitchen. "Indeed she has ... her name is Whisper," she smiled warmly. "And there are time when I think Rhea is just as obsessed with her now as she was when she first received her as a gift. Four years ago already ..."

And suddenly she remembered that neither of them had been introduced yet. "By the way," she smiled warmly, "I'm Shael."

Rhea was already up the stairs, staff in one hand, holding her skirt with her other hand so that she wouldn't trip over it. She knocked on Cindy's door (or rather tried to, though she was excited and her knock sort of turned into a bang instead) and called out, "Cindy, your brother's here! Triton!"

Whisper sat down next to Rhea and tried not to roll her eyes. "You're never going to change," she sighed softly. She ruffled her wings as they waited for Cindy to come out of her room.

"It is a pleasure to meet you Shael," Triton nodded, "And as your daughter already has pointed out, I'm Triton."

He took a seat as soon as he entered the kitchen. Triton couldn't recall if he had ever met Adonai, but he was pretty sure he hadn't before.

Laughter came from behind the door as Cindy opened it to see Rhea and Whisper before her. Even after all these years Whisper was still commenting on Rhea's antics.

"Is he now? That's rare," she murmured, "Then I should go down and see what's up."

Shael laughed softly and headed to the cupboard to pull out another mug, placing it on the counter beside four others.

"Rhea has a knack for knowing things," she smiled warmly at the neko. "Much like Aragost, though she doesn't realize it - and of course not to the same extent."

No one, she thought, could know as much as Aragost.

Rhea giggled. "Yes you should," she agreed, "because I want to see what it is as well, he says he has something for you." She moved out of the way so that Cindy could go ahead of them, stroking Whisper's head absently.

Triton had to chuckle at that, so like the infamous Aragost huh? He had never met the man, but had heard enough stories about him.

"I see, and here I thought Cindy was telling stories."

Since there weren't a lot of nekos in the family and he was the only first generation neko without wings.

She should have figured Cindy thought as she chuckled at that closing her door behind her, "Alright then, downstairs we go."

Going ahead of the two, she wondered what Triton brought, books hopefully, and maybe some seeds though it would be too late to plant but she had spring coming up.

Shael smiled at Triton. "Some, but I'm afraid Rhea doesn't give her much spare time. Though she usually spends her time in her room doing ... I'm afraid I don't actually know what." She laughed and moved to take the kettle from the fireplace, and as she removed it she heard footsteps on the stairs.

"Here they all come," she smiled.

Rhea grinned and skipped after Cindy, Whisper following closely on her heels.

"Triton!" Cindy smiled as she greeted her brother the moment she walked into the kitchen.
Triton chuckled a bit as he got up from his seat and hugged Cindy. It hadn't been that long, but it was a strange Christmas without her and New Year actually.

"Hi Cindy," he murmured.

"And what brings you here? Besides whatever it is that Rhea said you had," Cindy eyed Rhea for a moment knowing how curious the girl could get.The neko laughed, he should have figured someone Rhea's age would be curious, "Books, of course, new clothes from Helen, the Lunar New Year has passed so I brought mooncake as well. As for why I'm here, the family wants to set up a portal in the Eastland."

Which everyone was for really, especially Lin but that was a given.

"But we need someone to go there first, otherwise we could end up anywhere without a reference point."
PostPosted: Tue Jan 27, 2009 4:41 pm

"Oh," Shael blinked. "You're going to the Eastland ... was that why you wanted to talk to Ulani and Ulrich?"

Rhea's eyes had grown bright at the mention of the Eastland. "Mama ... you promised we could go this year," she murmured, turning to Shael and folding her hands in front of her. "You say that every year but something always comes up ..."

Whisper sighed. As much as she didn't like Rhea pouting or whining like this, she knew it was true- and truth be told she wanted to see this 'Eastland' too.

"I think," she purred softly, butting Rhea's leg and looking up at Shael, "she's asking if we can go with Triton."

Rhea nodded eagerly. "He'll need a guide anyways," she pointed out, "and you said we could go and meet my aunt and uncle someday!"

Cindy giggled helplessly at that, it was so predictable of Rhea it was just plain funny.

"Rhea...." she murmured.

Triton laughed, "Well yes, I was going to go to Ulani and Ulrich for a guide. Really there isn't anyone else who's good to travel at the moment. Mother would have loved to, but she's so far along now, maybe at most she could come here, but not travel to the east, and that's only if she convinces Donovan that she would be fine doing so."

Well she could go see for herself after the portal was up.
