It took her longer to fly to her boss's nest than it normally would due to her various injuries. Since she was missing a tail feather, Pebble had some difficulty steering, and found herself fighting at the wind currents as she tried to make her way to the train station. Eventually, though, she managed to get there, but not without being exhausted, out of breath and aching in pain.

"...Psycho.." she called out feebly, slowly making her way to his nest once she had landed safely on the beam it was located on. "Please, help.." Her right eye had gone completely dark now, and she could no longer see out of it. Losing her sight, however, wasn't the worst thing she had lost that day.

Tears fell from both of her eyes which caused her right one to hurt even more. A mixture of both blood and tears streamed down her face as she hopped into the doctor's nest. She wasn't even crying from the pain, not really. No, her tears came from the fact that she had lost one of the things that was most important to her: her best friend, Sunshine.

The brown Pidge turned at the sound of her voice, and he almost vomitted at the sight of Pebble. Her feathers were bloodied, and her eye..... He got to her as quickly as he could, and helped Pebble over to the nest he and Friendly Skies had made for her oh so long ago. "Shh...shh...it's all right, I'm here." Psycho said soothingly, while his heart was pounding madly. He rushed over to his supplies, always well organized, and returned with a wad of cotton, partially a bandage for her eye. The doctor got to work as quickly as he could, swabbing off the blood and tears. Then he used some special tape with a little more of the cotton and places it on Pebble's dead right eye. Psycho then began to feel about her frame for any broken bones, wondering if he should take her shawl off.

She sniffled as the doctor felt about her to check to see if anything was broken. Whimpering, she began to cry again as she shrugged off the shawl that was draped around her neck. There was no way she would allow any blood to get on it. That would ruin the entire thing, which is something she couldn't have.

"Sh..she...she has Sunshine..!" Pebble managed to get out, bursting into a fit of tears again. After working for Psycho all this time, this was the first that the doctor actually saw her cry. Before, she would take careful precautions to hide it, but now it didn't matter. She just let them fall freely, not caring what anyone thought.

"And you lost a vital flying feather, which might grow back in time, and you lost an eye, which won't work again. Pebble, I need you to realize that. I know you're going through trauma about your friend, but there's nothing either of us can do about it right now. You can cry and wail all you want, I won't stop you, but I need you to stay in your nest and try to rest." Psycho said, slipping out of his normal, hard voice into a cracked voice that sounded truly scared. He put her shawl near the little nest, but not close enough to get any tears or blood on it.

As much as she wanted to object to what Psycho said, she knew he was right. She had to give herself time to rest and calm herself down. It was the only thing she could do at the moment. Exhausted, Pebble laid down in her special little nest and got comfortable. Once she had done that, she then wiped the tears from her good eye while trying her best to relax.

"I'm sorry..." she murmured in a soft, almost inaudible voice, "..I didn't mean for it to turn out like this."

"I know you didn't." Psycho replied, his voice now soft instead of normal and formal or cracked and shaken. "You don't need to apologize. I love you, Pebble, and I'm scared for you. I need you to rest up, and be calm. I'll do something about this in the morning, I swear I will. If you need anything to eat or drink, just ask." He wasn't going to say that there really was no way that he could save her eye. That would be something for tomorrow. The doctor turned away before Pebble could see a tear in his own eye.

"..." Pebble gazed at Psycho when he turned, completely taken back by what he had said. That was the last thing she expected, but his words didn't bother her at all. Quite the contrary; they filled her heart with so much happiness that she thought it would burst. "I love you, too, Psycho," she told him quietly, even though he wasn't facing her. "I always have."

She had said all she had needed to say after that. Raising a wing, she tucked her head under it and drifted off to sleep. The dreams she had were comforting. Not nightmares like she had expected, but pleasant dreams of Psycho and her together living peaceful and happy lives.

The doctor went to sleep...eventually. Sleeping was a rocky business that night. Psycho kept having nightmares of waking up with Pebble being gone(or dead), and one time even dreaming of turning into a wolf. When dawn came, he woke and went to Pebble's side to check on her. Psycho didn't look very tired, as he had stayed up late many times before.

When she awoke the next morning, the whisperer was in better spirits. She was greeted by Psycho who was now at her side, and when she saw him she flashed a light smile. It was good to see him like this - to know that he cared so much about her. "Did you sleep well," she asked, the pain in her eye now down to a dull throbbing. "I hope so. And it's good to see you again. I'm glad I came here instead of flying back to Baker's. I probably wouldn't have made it if I did."

"You wouldn't have made it. Thank you for coming here first." Psycho agreed. "I had a fine sleep. You seemed to have a good one too, unless I'm mistaken." He looked at her right eye again, sighed, and replaced the gauze. "Pebble, I need you to brace yourself. There really is nothing I can do for your eye. I believe you'll be....blind....in it for the rest of your life. But it doesn't look infected beyond that, and nothing seems fractured in the rest of your body, and the bleeding stopped." He doubted that it would be safe for his lover to fly ever again.

In the back of her mind, she knew what was coming. How could she not know? There was absolutely no way she'd be able to see out of her eye again, and she understood that. But it was something she was willing to live with. After all, she would still be able to function with one eye. The only thing she really cared about was getting her associate back. Her own well-being came after that.

"It's okay, Psycho," she cooed to him in a gentle and reassuring voice. "I'm just happy to still be here."

User Image"YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT! I DID NOTHING WRONG AND BROKE NO PROMISES!"
"GULLSPLAT, MESA, YOU HAVE THE LOCKET! YOU PROMISED YOU WOULDN'T STEAL IT!

Nintendo and Mesa were crossing words. Nintendo had himself puffed out to full size and Mesa was hissing. She had wrapped a cloth about herself to hide her wound. They were under the station, in the underground. Nintendo was glaring daggers at his lying friend. User Image

"I DIDN'T STEAL THE TRINKET! SHE GAVE IT TO ME! ASK HER!" She snarled at him. Nintendo was enraged. She'd always been so loyal to him, but now she was spurting lies.
"What did you do to make her give it to you, then? Threaten her? Peck her to pieces?"
Mesa glared. "I'm telling you, Nintendo, I didn't take anything from her! Not really, anyway..."
"MESA! What did you take!?"
"IT WAS JUST A PASSERIDAE! Its not like their lives are worth anything. And its not theft. Its abduction."
"THAT'S WORSE THEN THEFT YOU GUTLESS GIT!" he shouted, cuffing her on the side of the head. "NOW WHERE IS HE!?"
She hissed, but her eyes looked to the TV where a very soft chirping was heard.

Nintendo hopped down. He knew that Mesa stored her things here. He unwound the knob and poked his head in. He looked over at Sunshine, just a purple head. The poor thing had orange spots on its head from the blood earlier dripped on him. "Hey little guy." he said, smiling.

"I am, too." Psycho admitted. "Are you hungry?" he asked, handing Pebble the blue shawl and flower she always wore, making sure to make it visible to her left eye.

Off in Mesa's nest, Sunshine could still be found inside his prison of a tv. He jumped up, startled, when Nintendo poked his head through the hole. The purple thief had scared him and he cowered in the corner shaking from head to talon. Any friend of Mesa's had to be just as bad if not worse than she was, and the little passeridae wasn't going to take his chances.

----

She shook her head when he asked if she was hungry. "No, but thanks for asking. It's so nice of you to take care of me like this." Despite the fact that Pebble hadn't eaten since yesterday afternoon, she couldn't bring herself to eat anything. Her stomach probably wouldn't be able to keep it down, not after how much she was worrying about Sunshine.

Nintendo smiled in at him. "Its okay little guy." he said cooing. "You're not gunna be hurt anymore. I promise that Mesa will keep her distance....You don't understand a word I'm saying, do you?" he asked, shaking his head.

He left the hole open and sat his bum down, lifting his ocarina to his beak and playing it gently. He played a soft, sweet melody to try and lure the frightened associate out and show that he meant no harm. ( http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=5rjh74DdQP4 )
