Cordelia sat upon the battlements of the castle, looking down at courtyard below. There was much merriment as humans made music and dance around a fire. There was no occasion...not really. They were simply enjoying life appearantly. The drink was flowing and off to one side there were cooking fires where meats were being roasted and other foods prepared.

The black she-gargoyle watched them all with narrowed eyes. They were dancing about happily now... But humans were wicked creatures who turned on their own for no greater reason than they didn't like the other's face. Humans held fear for the gargoyles, and what they feared they eventually destroyed... It was human nature to do so... She was not so easily fooled as their clan leader. There were humans out there that would not hesitate to harm gargoyles.

Still, with her clan leader being so accepting to the humans, all they could do was watch... and wait...

Cailin stood there in silence with her arms folded across her chest as she listened to the daily fussing of her father. Did this man think of nothing else besides her marriage. If she didn't want to be passed off like some cow then she should have the right to voice her thoughts on it and stand her ground? Apparently not according to him. Would help if her mother would back her up sometimes but no. She chose to be silent.

"Now, for my sake do you think that you could at least act normal and keep your head out of the clouds. Participate in the festivities and maybe..."

"Maybe what? Someone will take interest in me? Look I could care less if the men find me less appealing than the other females around here because of the way I act. If they can't accept me for the accepting, thoughtful free spirit that I am then I don't want to have anything to do with them. Further more I'll not allow you to pass me off to some man like some cow thank you. Now if you'll excuse me I am going to go back to what I enjoy the most. Having my head in the clouds as you so love to put it."

It had taken a great deal of will power to keep from yelling at her father. It really hurt her that he couldn't just accept her for who she was. It took even more will power to hold back the tears that threatened to fall. Turning her back to him, she briskly walked away from her father and past those who were in the festivities. Right now she just didn't want to be around them...she was in no mood for celebrations.

Cordelia was almost bored watching the festivities when movement towards an unexpected area caught her attention. She caught sight of the lone female human separating herself from the rest. She was young. So why wasn't she in the festivities? What was this human up to? Her narrowed eyes glowed red as a low growl escaped her. Suspicious actions like these usually lead to trouble. But what kind? Was she a traitor, meeting with someone in the dark? Or a lust-filled whore gone off to meet with her human male in private? With the festivities in the courtyard was she taking advantage and trying to steal something?

If anything, she would find out. Standing at the edge of the battlements, she spread her wings and gracefully dropped from the precipice, the wind filling her wings and holding her aloft. Silent as a shadow, she followed the girl.

When she was far enough out of sight...or so she thought, she booked it. She had never felt so free. Running through the tall blades of grass, the wind caressing her cheeks. Bliss. Yet their was one disadvantage to running through tall grasses. You couldn't see the thick roots from trees or thick twigs. It was a twig that brought her down. Cailin fell to the ground and proceeded to roll the rest of the way down the hill. Luckily she managed to stop before she came to the lake. That wouldn't have been fun to be drenched in cold water.

When she came to a stop, her laughter filled the air around her. She couldn't help but be amused by her own carelessness. Running in tall grass and at night no less almost guaranteed something to happen to you. As she pushed herself to sit up, her laughing slowly faded away and a sigh left her. The tears were coming back and a feeling of rejection consumed her form. Why couldn't they just accept her for who and what she was? Her lower lip began to quiver as she lowered her head and silently cried.

The moment the girl began to run Cordelia growled low. She was running from the castle. Treachery! Betrayal! The human was running away! She watched as the human fell in her haste, rolling down a hill and almost straight into the lake beneath it. She would have taken her chance then and there, diving onto the human and subduing her....but laughter filled the air. Cordelia slowed her flight, circling the girl. The human was laughing? Was she crazed? Well, if she was betraying everyone to an unknown enemy then of course she was crazed!

Making up her mind she dove with a roar, landing several feet from the human who now seemed as though she would weep. The girl MUST be crazed. Her eyes glowed red as she stomped closer, wings held high and body crouched, ready to spring. She was crowding her towards the lake, cutting off her escape.

"What are you doing here human?" She spat out the last word, malice dripping from her words.

Cailin jumped when she heard the roar and instinctively coward, lowering her head more towards the ground while setting her head on top of it. Hearing the gargoyle come even closer with speed frightened her more, but when the female spoke to her she looked up curiously. What was she doing here? Had the female been following her. Lowering her hands slowly, she wiped the tears from her eyes.

"I came here to be alone...but if this is your place of solitude I will leave and find another." Her voice was low and apologetic. She really hadn't meant to anger anyone.

She roared again, stepping right up to her. "LIAR! Traitor! Reveal to me whom you work for! To what enemy do you take information?" She bent and picked the slight girl up by the arms with a tight grip. "Don't you dare try to lie to me you despicable human. I can crush you where you stand! No one runs from their home in the middle of the night without a purpose." She growled low. "Do not test my patience."
PostPosted: Fri Jan 23, 2009 11:35 pm

"Why would I lie to you? I have no need to! Maybe I didn't tell you why I left my home because I don't know you nor does it seem like you'd care. It's easy to see that you think of humans as deceivers even when it comes to humans who have done nothing to you to earn such a title but I can name a title you are earning for yourself and that is an ignorant brute! Furthermore, you've no need to mention what you could do to me for I am full aware but if it means that it will end my life so i won't have to live amongst the ignorant beings both human and gargoyle alike then so be it."

Where all of this sudden courage was coming from, Cailin couldn't tell you but she supposed that's how she got when she was truly angered. To be insulted by someone when she had done nothing to deserve such treatment just pushed her past the "turn the other cheek" mentality she had.

Cordelia sneered. "Why would you lie to me? Maybe because you're a spy or a traitor who was caught in the middle of running to the enemy and needs to lie in order to live. You humans ARE liars. You lie to each other at almost every breath you take. And you're right I don't know you, though you're wrong in assuming that I don't care why you ran. If it endangers me and my kind then of course I am going to care. You can call me whatever names you wish, they are meaningless to me coming from the lips of a human. You humans are all the same. Deceitful beasts lying in wait. You tolerate us so long as we are of use to you, then, one day, you turn on us, your very protectors. And why? Because we are different! Because we have wings and tails and turn to stone during the day. It doesn't matter to the lot of you that we choose to protect you instead of destroy you." She growled, her grip tightening to the point of crushing. "Don't you dare deny it. Every last human in the castle fears us...secretly wishes to destroy us. And why not? After all, you destroy each other and even yourselves over a mere whim."

"I will not say every human fears and hates you because I am different. Yes your temper may scare me at times but everyone has a temper. Don't you think this is probably why humans fear your kin? Because of actions like this. All it takes is one gargoyle to influence how humans think and vice versa. If I was going to betray anyone I wouldn't do it at night when I can be caught. I'm not stupid. However, since you must know why I ran then fine. I'll tell you. I ran because of my father. I ran because all he wishes to do is marry me off or how I see it pass me off like some cow. I ran because....because...."

Her voice was breaking as the tears came and her cry was about to begin. "I ran because my father dislikes the fact that I adore gargoyles instead of hate them. I ran because he refuses to accept me the way I am. Happy now? Happy to know what causes me so much grief? Happy to have such knowledge that you could exploit or laugh at?! Well go ahead and laugh. Relish in the sorrow of something that you despise so much!" She was past the point of being strong, past the point of even fronting. She was simply balling now and trembling.

The glow in her eyes faded, but Cordelia growled as she dropped the girl. "I would relish in your sorrow if there were something to relish in." She eyed her with a frown bordering in a scowl. "I will believe your words. But despite your disagreement with your clan I will be bringing you back home. This is not a place you a young human female. This isn't even a place for a young gargoyle female."

She glared down at her. "Why do you 'adore' gargoyles? Your kind has loathed and feared us for centuries. You have no reason to love us."
PostPosted: Sat Jan 24, 2009 12:33 am

"I'd rather stay her for a while longer. It's the only time I can just let the stress go away." She sighed, bringing her arms closer to her form as if hugging herself.

"Your kin as a whole has given me no reason to think other wise. Despite our obvious differences, I still find so many similarities. No matter how strong or wise gargoyles are, there are always black sheep amongst the flock. Same for us humans. I will admit that the fear and hate they display are uncalled for and unjustified in most cases but it hard to stay mad at them. We were bred to fear things that look different and out rank us in strength. Perhaps their fear is so strong because they think gargoyles might have a hidden motive when protecting us.

After all, why would your kin want to protect us? What have we done to deserve such kindness. Humans can be so petty and violent and seemingly have no respect for the animals, the earth, gargoyles let alone themselves. I like to think that you choose to protect us because you are wise enough to know that not all humans are deceitful or violent. Not just that but I think if your kin note the similarities we have. Like our nurturing side, and how stubborn we both can be in our beliefs when we have something set on our minds." Cailin rubbed her arms gently, the more than likely were bruised. Oh well, with time they'd heal.

"Sister, I am greatly disappointed in you. While I understand you reasoning for alarm, you must never threaten a human. Not only that but your roughness was uncalled for. You could have seriously injured her and possibly be sent to the rookery if not worse for your actions." Bhàtair had been flying about searching the lands for possible intruders when he heard Cordelia's fearsome roar. By the time he had come to the scene he saw her lift the human calling her liar, though before he could intervene, the human female begun yelling right back. So he chose to stick to the shadows and watch what would unfold sure to step in when things got too serious.

Cordelia had to hold back a scoff. "You have not deserved our protection. You've done nothing of the sort. We want peace. And it is in our nature to protect. You share the same home as us. That is all." At the male voice she turned, eyes glowing. It surprised her that she hadn't seen him. When she noted the voice belonged to one of her own she held back.

"I will gladly take any punishment given to me, brother, in the name of protecting my, our clan. I will threaten any human that threatens our existence first. Our clan leader may be sympathetic to these humans, but history has taught us much through the years. They are constantly at war, bringing us into their fights. Our numbers are dwindling, brother. Should the humans turn on us, or even so much as go to war while we are here, the last of us will die."
PostPosted: Sun Jan 25, 2009 1:12 am

" Yet through what history has taught us, still so many of us has yet to learn anything of it's lesson. The humans are a young race that have yet to learn the way of things. Yes, the humans war a lot and they come to us for help...but thats not bringing us into things. We could always say no. It is us that gets us involved in the wars.

Yes we protect them for the sake of peace. Sad thing is we can't even hope to see such a peace if we don't do our part to make them feel as if we truly want it. Actions like what you displayed make them hate and fear us. Make them think we are demons that take thrill his frightenning them. Had another human been around to see that they would have told the village and the king that a gargoyle were trying to kill her. With news like that it would push us many steps back into gaining the peace we dream of. It would make our leader seem like a liar whom rules over monsters or get you banished from a clan ad eve though you say you'd gladly take any punishment for the protection of the clan that I know is one you wouldn't beable to live with." Bhàtair watched Cordelia closely studying her body for any sudden changes, any sign of a potential lash out.

She growled and flung her arms up in anger. "Fine then. Since you're SO sympathetic to the little human's plight then you can escort her home. " She turned and stomped off, eyes aglow and fangs bared. She was NOT going to be lectured by her own rookery brother on loving humans. She was ultimately in the right. Too many clans had already met their fates at the hands of the humans they protected. It was only a matter of time. They all had to be vigilant for the signs.

With nowhere to climb higher in order to catch a good air current she was forced to walk. While it also meant that they too would have to walk, it didn't please her that she wouldn't be able to put distance between them.
