He'd been acting calmer, much calmer, since Rit had taken it upon herself to have Galley sew a little silver crucifix into the bow of his shirt. As much as it seemed to make the boy wither to wear it, at least he could now go out in to public without trying to attack anyone that came near him. Rit saw that as a plus, and so did everyone else in the household.

So it came to pass that Rit was sent on an errand by the olders in the house to a movie store, as it turned out, Port wanted to watch a musical that they (oh gasp!) did not already own. Why he couldn't go and get it himself was beyond her reasoning, but as she took Vox's hand into her own and started for the nearest shop she made sure to keep her step in with the little child.

"Stop grousing. Your face will freeze like that."

"It will not."

".. . .Yes it will."

"Says who?"

"Because I said so, and I'm older than you."

The small child didn't seem like he wanted to argue, instead rolling his eyes, and they continued their steps in silence.

Sable was going away for the weekend. While he was at home, making enough meals to last his boys until he got home, he sent his son and Rook to the video store. It was very important that the trio remain occupied, or Sable had no doubt that his apartment would be reduced to shambles within the first twenty-four hours.

They had permission to rent movies and video games, and Levi was allowed some candy if he'd really like. Sable didn't really care what the boys brought home; Leviathan had picked up cussing already anyways. It wasn't like he couldn't stop Rook from renting anything rated R, either. Rook did appear older than a seventeen-year-old youth. If he didn't make a rule about it, the troublemakers were less inclined to make a fuss about it anyways.

Of course, that didn't guarantee they would get along.

"We don't have enough for twenty movies, Leviathan."

"....so?"

"Pick some, you little b*****d."

So Lev grabbed Rook's favorite out of the stack and marched around the corner to put it back, nearly running into a lady in his way.

"Watch it!"

Rit looked up just in time to see someone coming towards her, and without hesitation she quickly scooped Vox up into her arms and turned her back to let the impact strike her instead of him. She took a few steps forwards as her body seemed to wince from the slightly impact, but she didn't topple over, and once the stinging stopped she loosened her grip on the bundle in her arms.

"Vox, are you okay?"

It was surprising that she was showing concern for child, and when Vox looked up at her and nodded, his little hand rubbing the back of his head, Rit turned to those who bumped in to her and frowned. Deeply, and rather loudly.

"The hell you think you're going, ya little ********?! Didn't you learn to watch out for others, or are you too stupid to even see straight?!"

Rit's volume was basically loud enough that everyone in the store could hear her, and she stood her ground before these two. If she hadn't moved Vox out of the way when she did, who knows how hurt he could have been.

Lev blinked, momentarily stunned into silence. People didn't usually yell back at him, they just stuttered and stared at him, noted his arms, and quickly got out of his way. Maybe it had something to do with the long-sleeve shirts and gloves the child had adopted. He did want to be treated more normally, after all. "******** off, lady," Lev growled, skirting around her.

He noticed the child in her arms and only looked breifly. There was something there that twinged at the senses Leviathan was fairly certain he wasn't supposed to have, but he didn't pay too much mind. Yet. He stuck the movie in a random spot and spied the lollipop rack. Hm. He grabbed a pair, ripped the wrapper of the purple one and stuck it in his mouth. (He also grabbed grape when sea salt wasn't an option.)

Trotting back to the lady and the kid, he unwrapped the red one and offered it to the kid. Everyone liked cherry.

Rook sighed and shook his head. Leviathan was a boy of many faces.

If Rit didn't have Vox in her arms she most likely would have punched the little s**t square in the face, hard enough to make her feel better and hopefully show him, but instead all the young woman could do was glare and spit back just as spiteful words. She didn't bother to cover Vox's ears ( kid had heard much worse at the garage ), but before she could really get going the freak had come back with something - and he offered it to Vox.

"The hell is this? A peace offering to my kid?"

She clearly didn't approve, though Vox seemed to be interested.

He had been staring at the boy's arms for a while and when the hand was close enough to offer the sucker the small toddler leaned as far as he could in Rit's arms, enough that he could easy take the sucker with his mouth - but he missed it entirely. Instead, he moved quickly and bit down as hard as he could on the older child's palm.

Leviathan just sort of stared for a minute when the toddler latched onto his arm instead of the lollipop. He blinked, tilited his head, and blinked again. "Idiot," he finally decided, pulling his hand away from the kid. "I know the lollipop and my arm are the same color, but jeeze, that was a serious miscalculation on the trajectory of your face." The pre-teen was completely unharmed; the lobster armor had done it's job and protected Leviathan from the jaws of a would-be predator. Little did he know, of course.

"So do you want the lollipop, or not?" Because if Vox didn't, there was no sense in wasting a perfectly good piece of candy. Leviathan would stash it in his pocket and save it for later. Whether Rook remembered to pay for the candy or not when they paid for their videos didn't really matter to him; the boy's morals were very warped.

"I don't like candy, and I know what I was aiming for. I'm just a little disappointed at how strong my teeth aren't at the moment. If I were a little bigger, I would have crushed you."

Vox sat back into Rit's arms, the woman now glaring at him instead of the other boy like she had before, and he turned his nose up towards the treat he'd been offered. It was mostly like he'd said before - he didn't like candy - but it was also because Rit had instilled the constant 'take nothing from strangers' montage into his brain from early on.

"Shut your face, Pony boy. And thanks kid for the offer, but you should have learned to pay for things before you eat them. Even moreso not to offer them to others when they weren't yours to begin with. Who the hell raised you?"

Leviathan looked mildly stunned. The child was incredibly well-spoken for someone so small. "What the ******** are you, some sort of cannibal?" he spat out, words traveling directly to his mouth before his brain got any say. He pocketed his lollipop; it'd be just as good later. "You don't go around biting people, you little freak." Leviathan laughed quietly to himself, the shock vanished. He was a bit of a freak himself, after all.

The teal-haired boy shot Rit a glare before tossing his head back in the direction of his ashen-haired brother. "Him. Rook. My brother. My dad's always busy and stuff." It wasn't like Sable was a very good enforcer of anything, either. He was too nice, and he always gave in to Leviathan. But Leviathan loved him all the same, and loved him very dearly. "Not like that's any of your business, really. Your rugrat bites people.

"I'm not a cannibal, I'm a Kelpie. There's a subtle difference, lobster, and I don't bite anything that I would consider a person."

Vox's words had little dagger in them as he spoke over to the older boy, his eyes narrowing thinly and his whole face seeming to animalize. His ears drew to a slight point and when he opened his mouth his little teeth seemed to point, but it all quickly changed back within a blink of an eye.

To Rit it looked like she may have imagined it all...but she quickly snapped back to reality as this little brat before her smarted off again.

"Eh, biting's better than stealing or just being a general a**. One can outgrow biting, but one grows into what you are. It's a shame."
PostPosted: Tue Feb 03, 2009 5:31 am

Leviathan noticed. Oh, Leviathan noticed. The boy was not particularly concerned; if nothing else, Vox reminded him of himself. Now, he wasn't exactly sure what a Kelpie was, per say, but the teal-haired boy was fairly certain the came from the ocean and were not the most...friendly creatures. But hell, he was a summon. Sort of. And the sole purpose of a summon was to vanquish people. So Leviathan was fairly certain they were on equal terms, as far as rabid beasts went.

"My name is Leviathan, Kelpie, and I'm much more summon than I am a lobster." It would be a grave mistake for the boy to think he was the only one like him, Leviathan learned that ages ago.

He snorted and gave Rit a dreadful look. Couldn't she tell her kid was far more interesting? "That's because my dad actually has a job to do, and stuff. And I don't think your runt's going to stop biting, lady." He did just say he was a Kelpie.

"My name is Vox, lobster, and you would do well to remember it. Summon or not, a lobster is a lobster - only glorified."

Rit peeered at the bundle in her arms and raised an eyebrow. She didn't think Vox knew that word, but then again it seemed the toddler was surprising her more and more with what he learned. Maybe his rate of intelligence was because he was not human...?

"And yeah, I'll admit he probably won't. I can take comfort in knowing he won't be much of a problem with others since the little thing doesn't socialize except to insult or bite - and people know to avoid things like that."

She moved Vox up in her arms a little, his body growing uncomfortable on her hip, and she frowned at him as she watched his expression at the lobster boy.

"Rit has a job too, you know. She cares for me as part of it."

Leviathan rolled his eyes, not terribly impressed with the insults Vox was throwing around. "No, you idiot, I am more than just lobster," he tried to explain, wondering if the Kelpie's toddler brain was functional enough to grasp that concept. Well, he was throwing around words like glorified. There was a good chance. "Just because you cannot see it does not mean it isn't there," he tried to explain further. "Just like your hidden form, yes?"

Just because he chose to say nothing early did not mean the lobster-boy was about to forget what he witnessed. He was raised by scientists, after all. Every single detail mattered. "You and I are no so different," he warned again, convinced that this was the truth. "You ought to stop thinking so highly of yourself." Because Leviathan was totally one to talk regarding ego issues.

"But we are extremely different. We may both be water beasts, but you are not a Fae. I am an Unseelie, and you are...something of another plane. My kind came into being of their own will, you were something called and bound to serve a human. You stay because of that contract, and I stay so I have cover."

Vox seemed to be making a point with what he said, at least he was making sense to Rit, who was listening in mild disbelief at how much her child was bickering with someone else (at home, he was so quiet it was mildly scary).

"As for a hidden form, it's not hidden. I just don't like it yet, it does me no good."
PostPosted: Fri Feb 20, 2009 10:37 am

Unseelie? Fae? What on earth was Vox talking about? Leviathan scowled, baring pointed teeth as he brushed teal hair behind an ear. "Servant? I will have you know, you audacious little p***k," Leviathan spat, "that I am no one's servant." The very idea! The child bristled and leaned in closely, growing in the back of his throat as he resisted the idea of throttling the boy. It was a shame there was no water around. A good drowning could do the punk some good.

"I was not summoned and I do not have a contract. You don't know what you're talking about. A leviathan is a great sea demon. You are just a...you are just a nasty little cannibal. I hope you choke on bones," Leviathan sneered. What do you say to a man-eater, anyways?

"I'm not a cannibal - Kelpie do not eat other Kelpie. It's considered rude and rather stupid, as our kind is pretty rare to begin with. Or at least, that's what I think anyway since I have yet to meet another one and Rit says humans have never seen them before."

That was the child in him talking now, the lack of information. Being a toddler so limited how much he could hear and learn about his own kind, not that he ever knew much about it. What he had learned mostly came from Brig and from shoddy books owned by the duShepe family.

"Also, doesn't it bother you that you're hating on...a toddler?"
