Today is the 36th Anniversary of Roe vs Wade, the supreme court decision that made abortion legal in the United States.

I'm grateful to live in a country where I have the freedom to control my body, to make decisions about my health and my future, and to make my own moral decisions. I know Roe is under great attack, but it's inspiring that this decision has stayed around for so long. Women have had freedom of choice for longer than I've been alive! My generation hasn't had to deal with seeing their friends and family die from unsafe abortions, for the most part women and girls are not forced to carry a pregnancy to term against their will. It's tremendous to think about.

I don't think he has, otherwise it'd be all over the news. I know there's already a facebook group for #X Days of Prayer Against FOCA group, though... rolleyes

And while thinking about Roe v Wade and talking with a very Catholic friend of mine tonight, I realized that without safe, completely legal abortions, I wouldn't have a mother or a younger sister... After I was born, my mom had an ectopic pregnancy. I didn't realize that that involved abortion until tonight when it suddenly hit me, and I was like, whoa--if I lived in Nicaragua (that's the place where abortion's 100% illegal, right?), my mom would most likely be dead... And my younger sister (the "miracle"/accident baby) would never have been born. Made me even more glad we have the freedom to choose to live.
