The darkness was closing in all around her. Israi's eyes slowly shut as a stray wind shuffled its way through her pitch black locks. At the feeling of this new elemental presence, Israi let all her worries over what had happened lately dissipate. So much had been going through her head, so much had been rendering her mind useless. And tonight... tonight with all the commotion about the stupid rat she realized she had lost her edge. What was happening to her? Could she honestly blame everything on Makya?

Turning her head, she let out a breath of air that had been turning over and over in her lungs. With eyes now ajar all she could do was sit there and try to let a peace wash over her, but she knew it could only last for but a few minutes...

Makya moved silently through the darkness, his paws making no sound on the soft earth on which he tread. He moved with a swift, feline grace, tail swishing slowly behind him as he wandered the night. It was quiet out here, with no other sounds but the wind itself as it swelled and waned. Silence and solitude had its place...but the Wini wasn't looking for that tonight.

He had other things on his mind. Namely, Israi...or at least how oddly she'd been acting lately. She never wanted to talk about it, or herself, either. Makya didn't push her; he knew better than to try that. However, what choice did he have? Simply leaving her be didn't seem to be solving much of anything.

She'd disappeared again earlier this evening. He'd left her to her own devices for a while, but when she didn't return, he'd set out to find her. Somewhere in the back of his mind, a little voice whispered about how she might be in trouble...and how it would be all his fault if something happened to her because he hadn't gone to find her. And so, the Wini slid through the shadows, senses on alert for any sign of Israi. The wind was making things difficult, but he could have sworn he'd picked up her scent a moment ago. She had to be close by...

Israi let out a soft sigh as her head turned, suddenly she stopped in her tracks when she saw the striped wini standing in the clearing. Her lips pursed for a moment before pulling into a thin line at his presence. "Are you stalking me?" She asked a little more harshly than she meant. Her walls tried to build themselves up around her but she knew he'd knock them down again... he always did..

"No...not unless you'd like me to, that is," he answered with a half-hearted smile. He was simply relieved to see that she was safe...even if she wasn't in a very pleasant mood. He padded closer, only enough that conversation would be easy and neither would feel like they were shouting to be heard, then sat, tail curling around his feet.

"You'd been gone for a while. I just wanted to make sure you were alright," he finished honestly, discretely glancing her over to search for signs of injury. No...she was fine. His fears receded into his mind, sure to surge again the next time she disappeared like this.

Huffing a little, Israi was trying hard to keep up her rough exterior that always seemed to melt away when she was near him. "I was out... aren't I allowed to be?" Her eyes shot over in his direction. She wanted him to come closer. She wanted to feel his fur brush up against hers, but she would never say this, she would never let him know even in action. Frowning, she turned her head to watch the moon above her, "I get too ansy being in one place too long." She tried to better explain herself.

"No...I didn't say that at all. Just that I got worried when you'd been gone for so long." Makya's tail twitched at his feet in a mix of irritation and anxiety. He didn't like being snapped at for worrying about her...but he was used to how she was. He didn't blame her for it. He simply shuffled his feet a bit, glancing away before he continued in a lower voice. "I just wanted to make sure that nothing had happened to you. I don't know...what I..."

He let himself trail off, not sure what he was saying. Or maybe just in denial. His eyes flickered towards Israi and he noted that she wasn't looking at him anymore. Taking the opportunity, he rose to his feet and moved closer to her, speaking softly. "You can stay as long as you like. You know where I'll be whenever you decide you want to come home...just take care of yourself out here..." Steeling his resolve, he leaned in and gently nudged her shoulder with his maned head, eyes closed. Before he overstayed his welcome, he withdrew, nodding slightly before preparing to leave.

Home? Is that what he just called it? Was this her home? Did she have a home anymore? Frowning, she finally turned her head, immediately overtaken when he came closer and nudged her. With a sigh, she let her shoulders slump slightly, "I'm sorry Makya... I'm sorry for worrying you... I didn't realize..." She chewed her bottom lip in thought, "I'll... make sure to let you know from now on..." She mused as she thought about this, did she really have to check in? She had never had to do so before, she had never had anyone care for her like that. "Do... I... really mean that much that you'd worry about me?" Her head flicked in his direction as her eyes were slightly swollen as she thought about her life previous to meeting Makya. She wouldn't let herself cry, she couldn't. Feeling an immediate need to be comforted, Israi let herself do something she probably wouldn't have months before, stepping slightly to the side, she let her head briefly lay against him. "I didn't mean to upset you... I didn't know..."

While shocked, Makya didn't show it. He merely paused, no longer leaving...and relieved not to be doing so. The briefest hint of a smile crossed his muzzle as he took a seat, allowing Israi to lean against him for as long as she'd like. "It's alright, really. I'm sorry if I'm being a pest. I'm certainly not trying to take away your freedom. That'd be rather counterproductive, considering all you've gone through already."

The earlier anxious twitches of his tail had stilled and the appendage now curled calmly around their feet. "But, of course I worry. Why wouldn't I? I care about you and you know that. Why else would I have stuck with you for all these months? If I didn't care, I wouldn't be here. Simple as that."

He gazed at her fondly out of the corner of his eyes. She was a beautiful Wini...outwardly, obviously, but despite how she acted at times, he'd caught a glimpse or two of the inner being. It was just as beautiful, if she'd ever let anyone else see it.

Letting out a breath that had been locked in, she looked up at him. "It's... I'm... just not use to it... I... was always the one that took care of everything... no one has ever worried about me before... I'm sorry Makya... I'm sorry if I'm being... irritating." She moved a little closer at the touch of his tail. She let her head rest on a better position at his shoulder, letting her eyes shut. "..I don't understand anyone caring about me... I'm... not worth it.." Letting out a sigh, she had meant what she said, and she couldn't bring herself to let him care about her that way. Could she? Could she let anyone care about her that way? Makya had been the only other wini, or human, that she had ever let be this close. The only one that she had ever let touch her, or comfort her. And she knew she was failing at giving him what he needed and wanted. Was she a failure in the fact that she didn't know how to let anyone care?

"Well, it's about time someone worried about you then, isn't it? Only right after you took care of everyone else for so long." It was what Makya honestly believed, so that's what he said. He wasn't the type for being vague or secretive or sneaky. He was a simple, honest soul. He just wanted her to feel better; to stop believing such negative things about herself, especially when they weren't true.

"You're not irritating, not in the slightest. If it makes you feel better, I'll let you know if you ever are," he joked lightly, smiling. Lifting his front paw, he reached up to stroke Israi's cheek gently with a claw. "But, even if you were, you'd still be worth it. So stop thinking so little of yourself. It makes it harder to convince you of how much you mean to m--everyone." He tried to smooth over his slip, hoping that awkward moment wouldn't have been as obvious as it had felt to him. He was trying to help her with her own sense of self-worth...not bring up the issue of these odd conflicting feelings he'd been battling on his own recently.

"But I..." Tears were now falling down her face, even though she promised herself she wouldn't. As much as she was trying to hold it in, trying to tell herself that she didn't deserve any of this... it had become too much for her. "No one... should worry about me.." She was now hiding her face against his chest, unable to hide the fact anymore that she needed to be held. "I.. don't understand how I could mean anything to you... to anyone.." When he stroked her face she felt her body shiver slightly, she let her eyes shut as she nuzzled slightly against his paw. "Makya..." Her face moved up a little. "...Thank you..."
PostPosted: Tue Feb 10, 2009 4:57 pm

"Shh...it's alright...just let it out..." Makya continued murmuring soft words of comfort, one paw looped around her back to hold her close while she cried into his fur.

While a bit unnerving, Israi's 'breakdown' was in a way, a relief for Makya. Not that he was happy she was upset. Of course not. But it meant that all his hard work, that all the months of tolerating coldness and mood swings, had paid off. He'd been making headway afterall, even if he couldn't see it.

"Don't thank me yet," he joked lightly, smiling down at her. 'Though the hardest part is over. Now, I just have to convince you that what you think about yourself isn't true. That you are important and that people do care." He shifted his paw against her back, still holding her close if she needed to cry. "It hurts, I know...it hurts to open up to anyone else. Personally though, I think it's worth the pain for the happiness and the bonds that can come with it. I think it's worse to stay locked away and alone, separated from everyone else. Isn't it worth the possibility of a little pain, for the experience of truly living your own life?"

Makya wasn't normally one to wax philosophic; it was normally a bit much for his own brain to cope with. He was willing to share what he believed about life, though, and he thought this might be the best time to reveal just what it was he had been working for all this time with Israi.

"Makya... no one has ever cared about me before... it means a lot to me.. that you'd do this.." She lifted her head to glance at him, moving closer to gently lay a soft kiss to his cheek. Blushing a little, she wiped away a few stray tears and just let herself stay close to him. "I.. still don't understand it.. but I have a feeling I never will.. Being alone isn't always so bad... I never hurt the way I do now.. because I never knew what it was like.. I didn't know what I was missing out on... and now I do..."
PostPosted: Tue Feb 10, 2009 5:17 pm

Makya blushed warmly beneath his fur and hoped greatly that she didn't notice. "True enough...it does hurt a lot less. But at the same time, it's like only half-living. Living comes with pain...but also with things that make it worth it all. The trick now is showing you what makes it worth opening up to others." He smiled gently, leaning down and nuzzling her cheek.

Israi finally gave a soft smile in his direction. She lifted her head so she could fully return his nuzzle, lingering slightly against his touch as she let out a minor purr. "...Maybe... this is what makes it worth everything... this moment... right here.." She hardly knew what she was saying, she only knew that she felt it. That she felt that she didn't want this small moment of closeness between the two to fade. What that meant she couldn't be sure, but she had never wanted to be so selfish about enjoying something in her life. "Makya..." She stated in a quiet manner. "..Can we... stay like this.. for a small while..?" Moving her body closer, there wasn't much room between the two of them now.
