So...several of you fellow lolitas, seem to have this huge violent hate against Hot Topic and/or lolita becoming mainstream in America. You know it may happen within the next 10 years (how many of you will still claim to be a loli then I don't know...). A Japanese film centering on the friendship between a Yanki and a Lolita entitled Kamikaze girls is soon to hit American theatres (I don't know the exact date but you bet I'll be there in my amaloli dress!). I just want to know why so many of you don't want to SHARE the pride and joy of being a lolita with other fellow Americans (or Brittish or Australian or German or w/e nationality). RULES POST:So the next few posts will center around previous posts I've made. Then I want each of your opinions voiced the best way possible. If you're to make a reply to someone else's post, make it via PM if you're gonna be mean. I just want opinions from each of you as well as pictures of YOU and only YOU (well, you could have a few friends in the pic as well) dressed as how you percieve lolita to truly be.

My Point of View Part 1This is the dress I got a Hot Topic for homecoming: http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/store/product.jsp?FOLDER<>folder_id=2534374302024145&PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524442086589&bmUID=1128101017930 I'm not fond of the model, but it's still a lolita style dress (and I think the name is cute too: Tokyo Doll Dress).
I do hate how it's not of good quality, but it was $64 so I don't really care 'cause it's not like my other dress that I spent over a $150 on.
Now I also can not stand these people that diss Hot Topic and the people who shop at the store. I shop there. I know other people who shop there. This hole "Goth is an architecture and ancient people. I'm nonconformist so I don't shop at Hot Topic. I won't wear anything that someone else already owns or buys after I buy mine" ideas bug me. They're unfair. So what if I shop at Hot Topic every now and then? I'm gonna wear what I LIKE. If it happens to come from a mass producing store that is well known for its poor quality or if it's ordered from some unknown dress maker in China, WHO CARES? I mean, really, how childish are you gonna be? It's clothing for christsakes! I mean, I do not shop at Old Navy, but that's because of a bad memory from childhood involving that store. I know people who shop there. They sell cute boxers that I wouldn't mind getting a pair of for my boyfriend. It has nothing to do with "OMG Old Navy isn't gothic." or "Eeeew! Old Navy is so not kawaii! They don't sell anything lolita-esque in there." I mean seriously. Does it really matter in the long run? No. Not at all. And personally, I do find the dress I bought at Hot Topic to be truly lolita. Maybe not the best lolita dress, but it fits the desription. Sure Hot Topic is just trying to make money, but that's just what Baby, the Stars Shine Bright is doing, that's what Mary Magdeline is doing: trying to make money. So what if Hot Topic is going about this lolita thing the worng way, it's still lolita. I mean, would you hate Mana if he came to America and saw that dress and bought it? Would you really? If you really feel the way you do, than you would hate Mana if he did such a thing. Yes, I realize it's HIGHLY unlikely that Mana will do such a thing, but if he did...?
If you still don't see my point of view, read this journal that I posted on DA about an argument I recently got in with a friend over the same issue:Quote: And then at lunch today, Justin was a total a**. I mean yesterday he said that I was "too Hot Topic." Okay, no big deal. Maybe I am, even if I haven't bought anything from there in months and the last thing I did buy was 4 months ago and was for a friend not for myself. I don't see any problem with shoipping in stores. But Justin does. I don't think that because lately I've been buying most of my clothes at Charlotte Russe and the Body Shop makes me preppy. I like the clothes there, and they're at good prices (except Charlotte...@_@ ). And then I told him how Dan is taking me to see The Corpse Bride this Saturday and he starts going on how its gonna be such a bullshit movie because Hot Topic endorses it. This made me REALLY mad. I've been waiting for this movie to come out for over a year. This was before Hot Topic endorsed it and before I knew Johnny Depp was voicing Victor. I LOVE ZOMBIES. Plain and simple. He needs to quit being such an a*****e (seriously, he's been worse than Dan lately... >_< ). It shouldn't matter where people buy their clothes. It shouldn't matter what company endorses what you like. I mean, I support PETA, but not everything they do. PETA's not going to tell me to go ******** myself because of that. :/ And then he calls me Rebecca. His words were "The ******** b***h goes by Recca to be and cool and different. Her real name is Rebecca and I'm gonna call her that 'cause she's ******** Hot Topic chick." I then told him, "Hey, if you wanna call me by my real name, then it's Lisa. It was changed to Rebecca after I was adopted, b***h." (I was getting angry). I don't consider Rebecca to be my real name. I've been going by Recca since the 6th grade, and that was before I knew Hot Topic existed! I didn't find out about Hot Topic until Dani-cakes asked me if I shopped there. And besides, what I go by does not make me a "******** Hot Topic chick." I know I'm not making any sense, but it made me really mad that I'm being judged like that by him. I've stood up for him when people have talked smack about him. He was my first friend at Gulf Breeze. But he just crossed the line. I seriously lost all my respect for Justin today. And just because he wants to be so original and different. Well, if he wants to label me, then he CAN say that I'm "a Mana and Rob Zombie poseur who loves zombies, is a vegetarian, draws anime and anthro, and I will call her Lisa because that is her real name." http://seraphynth.deviantart.com/journal/6565868/ Do you see what I mean yet?

The Dress That is so ConfrontationalI took pictures of myself in it while I was in St.Augustine (I figured if I wore it while there, no one from school would bash me for wearing my homecoming dress before homecoming first!). I haven't made the headpiece for yet ('cause I'm LAZY) and most of the pictures involve a zombie and graveyard (but that's because they had all these Halloween decorations up and because I love old cemetaries with history).
So...here they are:

(What?? I have a zombie obsession!!!!)

i chose option b. i hate most people. i despise most people. i live in a bad place with bad people that are a detriment to the world. thats just me. ive grown up in bad places, thus may not be the case for most people, but it is for for so i deepseeded hate for other people. they annoy me, they bother me, they drive me insane. so it would only make sense that i want the things i love to be shared with the few people i love; or can stand.
as for the ht thing; i dont like most of the people that shop there, thats a given. i hate drugs, theres a bad past in my life with drugs and bad past with my bfs familes drug problems (neither of us do drugs, its our familys problem) and in my place ht attarcts the druggies who smell and attarct mall cops and impeede on my shopping experience b.c they have big eyes. i raraley shop at ht but i do ocasionaly when i actually find something i like in my size. (houston = fat. me = small)
i am proud of what i do. im a fashion freak. i shop at normal stores, ebay, and i sew. i come out looking awsome. all the hot topic idiot drug shojo goths are jelious because they cant put togher clothes like i can and sewing isent even a novel idea in thier head. thier main hobbies are drugs and liking bad anime and getting drunk. im not proud of people and i dont share unless they deserve it.
i am verry smart and run by my own semi catholic morals and can not stand people who have no moral conduct. i hate the unruly.
arg. im in a bad mood so i yattaed a bit but i did touch on your topics. im left with one question though, is that dress really that straight or are you not supermodel trim in the middle? i cant tell but i do like the top part of that dress somewhat.

Personally, I would be thrilled if loli became more mainstream. Maybe then I wouldn't have to remove a rib to wear my favorite brand-name dresses! whee Also, I think it would be beneficial to our culture if more people decided to become lolis. In my opinion, gothic lolita isn't just about the fashion, but about the sophistication, culture, manners, and modesty that go hand in hand with it. The values of a loli are, surprisingly to most, values that would make the world a much better place to live in. 3nodding

Eh, I don't really care either way. I like Loli and I'll keep wearing it, but it doesn't really matter to me if others wear it. It's a free world, and people are allowed to wear what they want, and they're going to wear what they want regardless about how certain people may feel about it.
I do hate all this fuss about Hot Topic though. =/ I mean.. it's just a store.

Ryashaa I do hate all this fuss about Hot Topic though. =/ I mean.. it's just a store. Seconded. 3nodding It's slightly annoying at times, but is it really that big a deal? So what if they have cheaply made, "alternative" clothes? If they have a cute loli dress, I'd still buy it regardless of its label. sweatdrop After all, we all know what's what and by who, so is it really a big deal if other people buy it? whee

I suppose I agree, as long as people portray it right and not try to make it into a slutty, cheap, or too gothic mainstream fashion. But I personally have a sticker that says ******** the mainstream. Most the things that are mainstream I just don't like but other things are okay. If the fashion or lifestyle (however you see it) ever became mainstream I wouldn't mind as long as it was done right. <3

i'm slightly confused by the topic...but i will try my best to type what i think i'm meant to o.o lol anyway... am i proud to be a Lolita? Like REALLY proud? of course!! Lolita for me is an escape, a reason to not want to look like everyone else, to be individual...especially here in England. Anyone who is slightly alternative do incredible things just to make themselves them, so they don't 'fit into the crowd' or get mistaken for someone they're not. To me, Gothic Lolita was a destiny for me to find. I've always liked black and pink and cute things, so i was concidered a 'bad goth' (how pathetic, ne? ..i hate that stereotype). When i found Lolita it changed me and every moral in my life. It's made me polite, it's made me more confident with my body and mostly, it's made me wear skirts..after traumatising moments where i just refused to wear them... I loooove it when i find Lolita's in England, it's someone to talk to who knows what your on about! I love my boyfriend, don't get me wrong, and he loves what i wear, but going to an anime convention with him, he doesn't dress up so i feel weird...but when i'm with people who do dress Lolita, i feel confident and happy. The only thing i dislike, is brands bringing out tacky, and i mean tacky, little short white skirts with a bit of lace here and there, and thne you see a chav walking around wearing it with a hoody! it makes me cringe...
Hot Topic though...i love it. We don't have one over here, so i find it facinating that theres a shop that sells semi cute stuff! and when i go to America, i told myself i'm going to at least check it out and see what all of the hate and hype is about. The thing that makes me cringe the most though, is when it's conotated with sex...and emo! on ebay every other auction says 'EMO!!' or 'SEXY!!' and it's just...cringing to see that... I think that if more people get in to it, the better we will be able to walk around and not get harrased, and get accepted for who we are...

cloudyhead arg. im in a bad mood so i yattaed a bit but i did touch on your topics. im left with one question though, is that dress really that straight or are you not supermodel trim in the middle? i cant tell but i do like the top part of that dress somewhat. Actually I appreciated your answer much better than what I've seen previously. I mean you actually EXPALINED why you feel the way you do. Everyone else is all just not giving real reasons. I wish I could sew. But there's no one around here to learn from. ;-; And my mom won't teach me 'cause she's too lazy. stressed
As for the dress part...My size is (inches): Bust: 36 Under bust: 32 Middle: 30 Hips: 38 I have hardly any curve in the middle. The black dress fit to my body right there, and gave me the illusion of a more curvy middle. The pink dress though, was too big (I wear a size 6 dress but this was like an cool , so it gave me no curve and left me looking like a plump stuffed doll with porcelain extremitites. x:

I mean...OUCH! Kinda harsh treatment from fellow lolitas. x:

'Cept when I go to school I bring a hoodie with me ('cause my trench doesn't keep me warm enough and neither do regular sweaters...I'm ALWAYS freezing x: ) and it does look really bad with lolita...but when you're freezing...the long lolita sleeves made out of thick fabric coupled with thick hoodie fleecey fabric...its like a miniature heater! It feels so good! Yeah...I still don't understand the EMO paired with lolita on EBay....I understand the sexy, 'cause at my school, my lolita fashion turns on a LOT of people. O_o And i'm wearing knee length skirts! (don't climb a tree in a lolita dress...it hurts! as I found out today... @_@). Well, whenever you come to America, enjoy the shops over here!

Number 1, I think that dress is very nice, and it'll be good if where I come from tries to sell stuff like that, at affordable prices, and not at $300 (about US$150+) for a lacy dress that just looks too overdone.
Anyways, to the topic... I'm from Singapore, smack bang in the middle of Asia, with maybe a couple of loli stores in Singapore. Yeah, truth to be told, a few GLs/GAs I know, myself included, are pretty proud of trying to follow this fashion here, where most people will be wearing jeans and T-shirts til the day they die. And so, naturally we get riled when Ah-Lians... Now I'm not too sure how to describe them, but they're sort of the loud talking, female gangster-ish kind of people, who usually wear clothes inspired by say, Topshop... So yeah, it's kind of irritating to see them shopping in Lolita inspired stores, especially since those stores tend to be so small that you can't squeeze more than 5 people into one. And as I heard from my friend, she had to wait for them to get out before she could go in, and her friend with her called them "Posers". And, in true Ah-lian fashion, they told her "See what see??? Want to fight ah?" Although I do concede he really shouldn't have called them posers. Maybe I'm one of those who won't like to see the fashion become too mainstream, especially since there will be alot of girls who'll just buy pieces of the outfit they think is nice, and pair that with all the wrong stuff. And also, there'll be the kind of girls I mentioned above wearing Lolita, which personally is quite scary. So I suppose to me, I'm not against other Singaporeans dressing Lolita, although it would be preferable if they wore it properly, and not in the fashion the magazines and newspapers seem to promote, where anything lacy=lolita, even if it is a see through lace top worn by some teen star, and do not act gangsterly in Lolita.
Not like I've got the money to shop there anyways... Since one top=my entire month's allowance, so I stick to random clothes I get from my mom (yes, my mom has Lolita-ish clothes, I don't know why), and headpieces I buy from friends.

I mean...OUCH! Kinda harsh treatment from fellow lolitas. x: Yeah, I'd thought about that, too; I wanted to be a designer for a while, but I gave up on it when I realized that if I designed clothes in the style I loved, nobody would buy them. The people who don't like gothic lolita obviously wouldn't buy it, but those who did wouldn't either simply because it wouldn't be straight from a big-name Japanese company or might be less expensive and more readily available to lolis over here through one of the only stores that might sell it: Hot Topic. whee I mean, we all want loli outfits in the States, but which other chain store would sell them? I doubt that a chain store only for loli clothes would be a success, no matter how many dresses we all bought; there just aren't as many people who would shop there as they would at, say, the Gap. 3nodding I dunno, it's a complicated issue, it seems..
