I recently stole an old skirt from my mom that seems like it wants to be lolita but just can't do it by itself XP so I wanted ideas on what I could do to it
the skirt
Bottom
the awkward fit

Also, I wanted some opinions on what I could do with this
jacket/vest thing
back
it's more aristocratic and I'm cutting off the sleeves because they do not fit properly for they seem to be sewn on a vest fit. ((without sleeves = same shape as my vest))

The skirt doesnt seem like it has the right shape for lolita. You might be able to use it for a Kawaii princess summer look.

Nope, the skirt isn't going to work period. Summer lolita skirts are the same as any other lolita skirt.

These are really cute items!

If you do remove the sleeves from your jacket remember to finish the raw edges neatly. Maybe add an armhole facing? I can see your vest working in pirate loli style too.

How is the length of the skirt when you have it at your waist and tied to fit? It doesn't look like there would be any fabric left over for modifying it.

These are hardcore modifications but:
Maybe think about adding in panels of a similar or contrasting fabric at the sides?
Or (even better) slit the back of the skirt (but not necessarily through the waistband if you are happy with that part) and add in a white ruffle part to add more volume to the shape of the skirt. And to be awesome!

Look at the back of this skirt or this skirt to see what I mean smile I like the width of the ruffled area in the first skirt, but in the white cotton of the second skirt.

I am a bit jealous. If you pull this modification off nicely you will have a gorgeous loli skirt! Best of luck!

I really do not think that the shape of the skirt will work properly with Lolita unless, as Seamstress suggested, you cut the back of the skirt to add a bustle back effect with ruffles (I'd make the ruffles black, personally). But whether that would work is rather questionable, because of how narrow the skirt is.

grr I knew it's straight pencil-like form would be bothersome but I might try the ruffling in the back. I'm going to shorten it too so that may help.

yes, not to worry, I'll be sure to sew up the edges of the vest nicely n.n

Thanks everyone!!

I don't think you really understand XD Shortening it would not make it better in the least. It still lacks the fullness in order to fit a petticoat underneath. You'd have to add fabric to it's circumference in order to make it lolita, not just add decoration.
