User ImageAs a full moon rose slowly into the sky, a lone female gargoyle soared out of the sky and landed softly in the middle of a small clearing in the forest. This was Maura's favorite spot to go to when she wanted to think or relax. It was always full of flowers that opened after the sun sank and it was in general quite a sight to see. She folded her wings around herself and gently smoothed a stray bit of hair behind one ear, smiling at the flowers glowing in the moonlight. If it wasn't for the fact that she liked the cliffs more for their safety during the day and her clan, she would let the sun catch her in this lovely place.

She slowly bent, carefully touching the blooms and taking in the scent. Things were just so much... quieter here. Softer, almost slower. She loved it.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Nightwing had awoken to the bright full moon restless and brimming with unspent energy. The dark male had immediately burst forth into the night sky his wings catching a full breeze. Swooping and gliding he inhaled the fresh air and suddenly let his wings catch the air at an angle to land. His claws grasped the earth as he descended and looked around with curious river blue eyes. This clearing had caught his attention with it's rich scent, the smell of night blooming flowers. Flowers were perfect for a charmer such as himself, normally no good with words, he relied on his looks and actions to garner the attentions he desired from the ladies.

He knelt on one knee and let his wings drape over his shoulders as he inhaled the flowers rich scent. He moved to pluck up a few and grinned with a nod to himself certain that he could find a lady who would appreciate the small bouquet. He jerked up suddenly and turned to stare surprised to see another gargoyle opposite him.

Words froze in his throat, but his eyes skimmed her over and he imagined a greeting.

Maura's head jerked up when another gargoyle landed on the opposite side of the clearing, stooping to... He was going to pluck the flowers. She didn't have a clue why anyone would was to remove them, but she didn't question it. It wasn't her business. She simply stood, and nodded a bit when he finally noticed her.

Let him make the first move, she thought to herself. She wrapped her wings around herself, modest as she was. Her face was calm and expectant, her arms folded slightly as she waited for him to say something.

Nightwing stood awkwardly holding the flowers at his side with his wings cloaked about him and his mouth half open as he waited for her to say something. It soon became clear to him that she wasn't going to say anything, he tried to imagine his greeting once again. In his head it sounded to suave and charming Why hello there miss, what brings such a lovely creature to such a lovely place? Care to take a glide?

Instead of his rehearsed mental dialogue all he managed was to take a step forward and murmur. "H'llo there..."

He looked down and took a little breath before lifting his head and walking closer to her. He tried to make his gait a bit more confident, but really he was a bit shy meeting someone new, and such a pretty female at that. What wretched luck, or exceptionally good luck depending on how one viewed the situation.

Maura couldn't help it.
She smiled at his shy attempt at a hello. In return, she bowed her head a bit, causing her hair to fall loose again.
"And hello to you, too," she replied, her tone hushed. Her murmur wasn't because she was shy, more that it felt like she shouldn't talk very loud in the clearing. She didn't really know why, it just felt like one of those places that you didn't talk loudly in.

Her response encouraged him and he thought for a long while of what else he could say. He held the flowers out to her and motioned to them "Humans gather flowers...and give them to each other..." He trailed off uncertainly feeling strange for trying to explain the ways of humans.

He looked back at her trying to figure out what she might be thinking of him, probably how to escape his random babbling. "They call me Nightwing." He added uncertainly, he hoped that would prompt her to respond with her own name, if she had one. He knew a great portion of the clan that was unnamed, but humans had names for everything and to interact with them they normally had to call you something.

Maura held her smooth smile, and carefully took the bundle of flowers.
"I know, I'm just not sure why anyone would want to pluck them. I mean, they wither and die so much sooner, then," she replied softly, eyes focused on the bundle as she stroked the pretty white petals. She glanced back up at him when he gave her his name.
"Maura, my name is Maura," she added, introducing herself. She actually kind of liked her name. It was short and to the point, no need for nicknames or anything like that. And it had been given to her by an old friend, some time ago.

Nightwing smiled as she took the flowers but his words made him frown as he considered them. "Well yes, but then they dry and smell as sweet..." He hadn't questioned the human way, he had simply mimicked it with good results.

"Maura, that's pretty." He nodded feeling a bit more certain speaking with her, his nerves were easing away a bit. "Do you come here often?"

"Once they dry? I've only ever seen them dead and withered," Maura replied frowning a bit in confusion. She smiled again, though, when he said her name was pretty. She certainly thought so, so she was happy to know that he had picked up on that.
"Thank you. Nightwing is an interesting name," she returned and considered his question. If she had read him right, if she said yes he might come there more often and she would lose the time to herself. But if she said no, that was a lie, and he might come there anyways, thinking he had the place to himself. The truth was always better.
"Yes, actually. It's a lovely place to reflect and relax."

"Once they die the humans tie them and let them dry out, then hang them places and it smells very nice." He nodded trying to explain the ways of the humans to her, though he wasn't very clear on them himself. "Nightwing was given to me by one of the castle maidens, she said my wings reminded her of the night sky."

He spread his left wing out for her to see before folding it back up against his chest. He frowned a bit at her next statement and looked around embarrassed.
"Oh, I'm sorry if I disturbed you...I've never been here, and well the flowers smelled so strong. It's not often I find such an abundance of night blooming flowers, such beauty." He looked at her a long moment.

"I can go if you would prefer to be left alone?"

Maura hadn't known that. Humans were quite smart, when they wanted to be.
"Well, then, perhaps I'll have to try that. Thank you for telling me that."
She nodded when he explained his name and showed her the inside of his wings.
"Oh, it's nothing to worry about," she assured him with a small shake of her head. She looked down at the flowers again, smiling a little. "I like to come here to be alone, but having company's an interesting change. You don't have to leave if you don't want to."

"I'd love to stay! I mean, normally I don't get a chance to have a lot of company, or to talk...this is nice." He tried to stop himself from stumbling over his words and gave her an uncertain grin.

"I'm sure you'll like them when their dry, their pretty still...just in a different way." He nodded and looked around, it became clear to him why she would come here to be alone. The entire clearing gave him a lightheaded sense of peace, he would have to remember this location for another time...but next time he would make sure he wasn't intruding on anyones solitude.

"It is beautiful here, so...peaceful." He murmured and raked his claws back through his mussed blue hair.

Maura actually giggled. She could barely believe it herself.
"It is beautiful here," she agreed, nodding her head a bit and turning away from him. She walked over to a patch void of flowers and sat down, curling her legs and tail beneath her.
"You sound a little mesmerized, Nightwing. The flowers aren't getting to you, are they?" she asked in a sort of teasing manner, tucking her hair behind her ear and she smiled up at him.

He laughed and moved to sit across from her shaking his head "Maybe I am a bit mesmerized, the flowers are so strong, it's a heady scent and one not often encountered in the night."

"Of course it's not just the flowers..." He glanced at her before allowing the rest of the words to escape him in a tumble. "Your quite mesmerizing yourself..." He gave a slight smile and leaned back trying to stay casual. This was much harder when he had to talk, normally he managed to find a more flirty aggressive female, but this was nice...different. This was almost like having a friend.

"I've gotten used to it," Maura replied, waving her hand a bit to dismiss it. She smiled a bit more when he flattered her and shook her head a bit. She wasn't much for flattery, well... That wasn't entirely true. She just wasn't used to it and hadn't yet made up her mind whether she liked attention from males or not. Nightwing was charming, there was no doubt about that.
"Thank you," was all she managed to finally say in acknowledge to his complement. She wasn't too sure how else to respond.
