Helios had decided it was too hot, well it was always hot in the desert but today it was just too hot. He had decided to lay by the water with his front paws in the cool water, that way he could lower his head on his paws and feel the cool water lap against his face, it was a pleasant cooling feeling that he had come across by accident when he had slipped or lost his footing or whatever it was that made him fall in the water by accident. He was sure his sister had set some sort of trap but he couldn't prove it and wouldn't try too.

He wasn't paying attention to any of the lions that had come and gone. He was just relaxing and trying to ignore the heat. He felt a little sorry for his brother and his 'aunt' both of which were rather unlucky in the heat. His mother had explained to him that being black meant that you felt the heat more then others and so Helios had learnt not to complain about the heat on days like this around them. It was just not nice. It was much better to lay half in the water and say nothing, at least that way he couldn't offend anyone. Then again he wondered if his father would care about offending anyone, he so wished to be like the father who ignored their very existance. Helios couldn't help but wonder why their father ignored them so, his mother had explained that it was because his father was strange and though Helios wasn't sure about it he didn't have the guts to actually go and ask his father. He was so big and scary and Helios was so small. Maybe when he was a little bigger but for now he would lay and dream about the day when he finally had the guts to talk to his father.

Jua'Mwiba, despite his black fur, almost never found it too hot out. But he supposed that he just liked things steamy outside. But even then, he needed a drink every now and then, so he went to try and find some water. He knew where the spot was, but he had a tendancy to wander off and get lost every now and then. His sense of direction was not exactly the best in the world. Still, he had other things to think about as he walked... like a poem. Yes, he had a poem in mind. He had heard his mother mention something about mixing words to make beautiful sounds the other day...

When Jua finallay did make his way to the water, he barely noticed the other lion sitting beside it trying to escape the heat. Jua just glanced at him, and then set about drinking, trying to rhyme words in his mind. But he wasn't very good, and it was tricky... and he didn't have much to ryhme about other than sand and water. What could he possibly ryhme with desert? Or sand? What would sound cool? Should it sound cool, or more romantic? He wasn't sure... So, he turned to the red lion before him. A nickname came instantly, as per usual, "Hey, Fringe-mane, are you any good at ryhming?" He asked, tilting his head to the side, "I can't think of something for sand or desert... sand... dand... mand... cand... Those are no good at all. How do lions make up poems off the top of their head? I don't get it..."

Helios was more then happy to ignore the cubs presence as well. He wasn't a mean lion, not really but he mother, well she couldn't hurt anyone and so he knew how to be polite but today he really couldn't be bothered. The sun was hot in the sky, he wasn't overly keen on these days but that was just life. He didn't expect anyone to talk to him. Then if they did talk to him it would be about something relevant but no the cub talks of rhyming and poems?

"I haven't a clue what you are talking about. I have never heard anything like it."

Helios hadn't. He had met a few lions and none of them had mentioned a 'poem' or 'rhyming words'. He sounded rather strange and he made a note to ask his mother about them later. He didn't think it would be something you just asked others about, they sounded a tad well, odd.

Jua tilted his head to the side and sighed. It wasn't exactly suprising that he wouldn't know really, Jua's mother had only told him because he had pressed about it for a very, very long time. He wanted to understand rhyming before he gave it a shot... but so far it was proving to be way too complcated for the little lion. Still, it didn't really bother him that the other lion hadn't told him much of anything. He hadn't expected much.

"A rhyme is when... you have two words that sound the same, but aren't the same. Like... man and can, or might and... dwight? Stuff like that..." Juat muttered, sighing, "I keep trying to figure it out, but I honestly have no idea how to do it yet."

Jua just sighed a little, wishing that he knew someone who could help him with the whole poetry thing. But really, he was supposed to be a warrior. And frankly, had every intention of being one... but something about poetry just made him smile. And that alone made it worthwhile, didn't it?

Helios didn't want to hear it. It was just boring. Poetry? Ryhming? What was that about and where had the cub heard it from? It was just disgusting. He shook his head, trying to make some sense from this strange cub.

"Where did you hear it from?"

He wondered what his father's reaction to this would be and decided he might be better off not knowing. Helios dreamed of getting to know his father better but he knew it wouldn't happen and so the cub stalked his father trying to mimic his behaviours. He was probably a pain in the backside to his father but Helios cared not.

Jua turned and tilted his head at the other cub, who seemed neither the least bit interested... or really that nice. Though he had met a few members of the firekin who had been quite kind to him, it did make him crack a grin when one was rude. Good. That was just the way he liked it... kept on his toes... itching for a fight. Even though the other cub was quite a bit larger and could likely beat the snot out of him.

"I heard it from my mother... and from one of the huntresses, when I asked her. She told me that all great warriors know about poetry, it's how they get right and famous, don't'cha'know. Only idiots don't know about poetry." Smart a**.

Helios laughed.

"The great warriors know about poetry? Right.... the greatest warriors show no emotion, feel no emotion, can kill and not care. Poetry? Thats just pathetic." He found the cub amusing to say the least. Poetry and warriors? What an idiot. His father he could almost be certain would know nothing of poetry and care even less about it but yet he his mother knew him during the civil war the pride had and she had admitted to the cubs, though no one else about how amazing his father was.

He looked at the cub and then turned away, walking back to the water and allowing himself to ignore the cub. After all who an earth would want to talk to a lion who thought himself a firekin who liked poetry? He would have to talk to aunt Ilahle about that. Ilahle wasn't really his aunt but she was a friend of his mothers and so Helios just saw her like an aunt. She would know if the cub was indeed talking about rubbish.

Jua tilted his head to the side, completely not understanding what the other cub was telling him. No emotion? No emotion... "Well, that just sounds completely boring. Dull, useless... You should fight because you like to, and speak poetry about it so that everyone will remember your name and idolize your brilliance in the future." He grinned, following the other lion, content with bothering him for the time being. "Of course killing should be easy, it always is. But why should we do something that we don't enjoy?"

He couldn't fathom that. No emotion? Why would he even bother fighting, catching and killing if he couldn't have a great time doing it? That would be... awful. And boring for that matter. There would be no point in doing anything! A good brawl, a fight to the death, those were the only reasons worth living! "I can't believe you'd resign yourself to boredom... when you could really, really get into it! Fight until you can't fight anymore! Until someone pulls off your head and you still go down swinging! That's what fighting is all about!" He laughed, clearly very pleased with all of the above ideas, "And if someone wrote a poem about it... everyone would know you'd done it! What could be better than being known throughout time for being the greatest warrior who ever lived!?"

Helios couldn't get over this guys idea of poetry, it seemed so pathetic. Poetry? No it was just wrong, completely wrong in every way possible.

"Emotion leads to weakness." It was the only answer Helios would give because he knew it was what his father had told his mother. Emotions hold you to things, they give others something to use to attack you. That is why he didn't know his father. His father didn't attach himself to anyone.

He just looked at the cub, he was little and easily influenced by this mother of his obviously. His mother, didn't deserve to be called a firekin talking about poetry, it was pathetic. Firekins didn't sit around thinking of poetry to make themselves known. Kidondo had never been heard talking about poems and he was sure No never had either.

Well, now Jua was completely resolved on disagreeing. And he was going to enjoy it, because if there was one thing he knew for certain, it was that emotion was the only point of being alive. His mom generally held the same opinion of this cub. Loyalty to the firekin and nothing else, that was why she was a magistrate. She had only told him a poem because she thought it would get him to stop bothering her. It had the opposite affect on the young cub.

"No offence boring-boy," Though Jua meant offense quite readily, because he had always been a little low on the tact-side of speaking with others, "but why would you do anything if you didn't have at least some emotion about it? You need some emotion to want to fight or be a firekin. I mean, if someone were to tell me that the firekin were a bunch of worthless cowards, I'd get mad and I'd kill the lot of them. What would you do? Don't tell me you wouldn't want them dead for being liars and cheats!" He declared, not ready to back down.

Despite liking his mother more, when it came to emotion, Jua was more like his father. He liked to live large, fast, and hard. Why be just a lover or a fighter? Why not take everything you could sink your claws into and run with it as fast as you could? He didn't much care about what anyone else thought of him. All he wanted to do was get everything he wanted. Have his cake and eat it too.

Helios just stared at the male. The male had a point but he knew what his mother had told him about his father. He had seen his fathers emotionless eyes and if anything this cub was just making him want to be more like his father.

"Emotions hold you back, they trap you, they betray you." He snarled back at the cub. To be fair if anyone insulted his pride he wouldn't hurt them for any of those reasons, more for the fact that they weren't worthy to even be talking about his pride. He loved the pride he belonged to and part of him resented the fact that he was so attached to it.

He knew the cub had a point, he wasn't completely stupid he knew emotions meant alot, his mother believed that. However he wanted to be his father, not anyone else.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 08, 2009 8:56 am

Jua stared right back at the other male. He just... didn't get it. The cub would have never been able to understand the concept of having no emotions, or not throwing his heart behind something. Even as an adult, he would likely never grasp the concept that Helios had brought forward.

It just didn't make any sense to someone who wanted to feel every little thing, "Pfft." He answered, shaking out his mane and grinning, "So what? I'd rather use them to make me want to get better. I mean, I'll use my emotions to drive me! To make me the best! So what if I get betrayed and in trouble because of them? Better to have everything than nothing!" He grinned.

He did suppose that Helios had his own point. But Jua was nothing if not stubborn, so he would never admit to that.

Helios snorted as the other cub spoke. He wouldn't understand, the cub like poetry, what weirdo was he? Poetry... of course that was enough for Helios to decide that there was nothing this cub could say that was worth listening to.

"Whatever." He hissed at the cub and turned away.

He was not going to waste time with this cub. He would go away and train some more it would without doubt be more interesting then staying here and wasting his time.
PostPosted: Fri Feb 20, 2009 7:34 pm

Jua rolled his eyes and stuck out his tongue at the other cub, "You're really boring! Come back when you have something more to offer than just wanting to do nothing!"

He himself had gotten rather bored with the other boy. After all, no fun at all. But still... at least he had had something to do for a while. Better than being bored on his own.

"Eh... time to find something better to do..." He mumbled under his breath before he took one last drink, then he readied himself to take off. Time to find something with a little more adventure instead of just sitting around and wasting the day!
