Lucien knocked at the door of the Sadril residence, readjusting himself after both tripping up the stairs and awkwardly juggling a brightly wrapped present back into his arms. Grace stood by the gate, allowing Lucien the freedom to approach the house without her accompaniment (after insisting that he was not a baby, despite the fact that he very much was), and waited until he was securely inside. Lucien stood patiently by the door, his fingers pulling absently at the bow tied neatly to the wrapping paper before looking back at Grace and smiling excitedly. Grace have a short wave and leant against the gate, waiting in a not-so-patient manner indicated by the tapping of her left foot.
Lucien knocked at the door once more for good measure before resuming to wait.

Joshua heard the knock and hurried to the front door. Thali was closely following; of course. The boy decided on ignoring her this time, and opened the door. "Luc!" He cried, surprised. "Hi! Come on, let's play!" He noticed the box. "Ooh. Who's that for?"
Thali spotted Grace at the gate and waved at her. "You want a cup of coffee?" She offered.

Lucien accepted the invitation without hesitation and sprung off the front step. Grace waved a hand dismissively, shaking her head and gesturing that Lucien wanted to play alone. Nodding to the boy quickly, Grace turned on her heel, bringing a hand to her ear and extending both her index and pinky fingers in an indication for someone to call her when he was finished. During this array of hand signals, Lucien had positioned himself awkwardly in front of Thali, his arms outstretched and his feet turned inwards.
"This is for you," he said quietly, shaking the present for emphasis: a card hung loosely from the corner, attached by a delicate red ribbon, and read Happy Birthday, Thali.

Thali's eyes widened in surprise. She smiled, "Thank you!" She said, opening the gift. "Did you pick it out? It's adorable!...How'd you know?" She looked at Josh quickly, who hid his grin.
"I told him! Mommy needed friends over for her birthday too. She can't be lonely! So I saved the day and told on her!" He nodded as wisely as a small boy could, before whispering in Luc's ear. "Mommy didn't want people to know. She says she's ooold."

Lucien giggled, placing his hands against his cheeks and eyes in pseudo bashfulness. He tapped his fingers against his eyebrows, stretching them out so he could peek through the pointed gaps. "Joshua told me than you liked kitties," he explained, pausing for a moment to lower his hands. "And that you hated pink. So I asked mommy to take me to some stores to find you a kitty with no pink and -- oh no, his nose is pink." He groaned, his face crumbling into a frown. "I'm sorry."

Thali hugged the kitten to show her happiness with the gift. "I don't like pink," She said grinning, "But I never said I didn't like pink noses." She tapped Lucien's to make her point.
Josh giggled. "Mommy'd like a pink kitty anyway." He whispered. "She loves kitties more than she hates pink."

Lucien smiled brightly and wrinkled his nose as it was squashed gently against his face. Looking over to Joshua, Lucien crouched down on his hands and knees and clawed the air in a vicious manner. "I'm a kitty! A big kitty, the biggest kitty of them all. I'm -- um, I'm a tiger," he said proudly, running -- or rather hopping awkwardly after Joshua with a loud graaarrl.

Joshua grinned, was this a challenge? "I'm a-- a lion! Lions are bigger than tigers!" He decided, mimicing Lucien and getting on his hands and knees. "Rawr! I'm the king of the jungle!" He said, scratching the air with his fingers. "...Do lions really live in the jungle?"

Lucien tilted his head thoughtfully.
"All big, wild animals come from the jungle," he said knowingly, nodding his head. "That way they can't hurt people with their big claws and teeth. But I can!" He grinned, moving towards Joshua with still-clawed hands and securely tucked elbows -- however, before he could attack Joshua with tickles (his favourite kind of attack), his left foot connected with his right, sending him sprawling across the floor. Lucien made an incoherant noise, his nose aching and his eyes watering from the impact. Pushing himself back, he glanced up at Joshua with a pout.
"I guess I'm a clumsy tiger."

Joshua couldn't help giggling, but paused in concern for his friend. "Are you okay?" He asked. "Need a bandaid? Tigers get owies too." He nodded as wisely as he could. He helped his friend up. "Maybe we can play another game! I got a sword for Christmas and we can be pirates or knights or something!"

Lucien raised a hand to touch his nose gingerly before letting out a pained wince. He lowered his hand to peer at his fingers curiously, his stomach suddenly twisting at the sight of red smudged lightly across his middle and index fingers. Lucien began to sob quietly and his face scrunched, clearly in pain from his carpet-skinned nose. Hesitantly, he brought two hands to his face to cup at his nose and looked over at Josh, nodding at both the comment on bandaids and the comment on playing another game.

Josh's eyes widened. "You're bleeding!" He said. "Mommy! Luc needs a bandaid!" And maybe he needed a hug too. Joshua thought, pushing Luc to the kitchen where Thali was starting lunch.
Thali bent down to Lucien's level. "Are you okay?" She asked, gently prying his hands away from his nose. "I know how to make that all better." She moved to the cabinet and pulled out a brightly colored box.
"Josh is always getting hurt," She reassured Luc. "You can pick out the color you like."

Lucien looked up at Thali with bloodshot eyes. He made a small noise at the back of his throat as she removed his hands from his nose, the cool air unwelcome and stinging. After a moment of self-pity, he looked at the box in her hands, his body shaking and his face still scrunched. He extending a hand towards the box, his index finger hovering above it before landing against a purple bandaid. He had made his choice.
"I don't wan'na be a clumsy tiger," he mumbled under his breath with a sniff.

Thali gently placed the bandaid on Lucien's nose. "There, all better." She said. She ruffled his hair, before going back to making lunch. "I hope you like maceroni and cheese." She said.
Joshua looked at Lucien's bandaid with interest. "Want to play knights?" He asked. Knights weren't clumsy. They wouldn't get hurt playing that, would they? "And we can save Mommy's kitty from the evil wizard!"

Lucien smiled weakly and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Thank you, Thali," he said quietly, nodding to indicate that he did indeed like macaroni and cheese. After a moment of curious prodding at his purple bandaid, Lucien turned to Joshua with a widened smile. Knights? He'd never played that before, but it certainly sounded like fun, and much less dangerous than clumsy tigers and lions. "Yeah, yeah yeah yeah! Let's play Knights!"
