The wintertime was unexpected for Jingfei. Although her siblings and parents had warned her about the sudden change in seasons, it wasn't until the cold air arrived when she realized how destructive nature really was. Jingfei had chosen a quiet life of solitude, since she made personal vows to nature and chose to meditate daily. The winter season had brought about a new kind of nature and she wondered if her choice to speak to the spirits was really a good one. Despite this slight struggle, she continued to meditate and find beauty even within the grey skies. She had a feeling that spring would arrive eventually, but Jingfei was grim when considering how far off that would really be...
To give herself a much needed break from thinking too much she decided to go off and find her sister. Jia Li was always more confident and steadfast then she, and if anything her sister would comfort her as she always did just be smiling. Jingfei had never spoken to anyone outside of her family so she was naturally craving some kind of speech. She was also curious as to what her sister had been doing since she and her siblings set off on their own destinies. Oh, how Jingfei missed the simplicity of their youth!
So, with quick legs she marched forward and throughout a quiet forest. She was pained to see all of the dead trees but tried hard to keep her mind focused on finding her sister. She would find her, even if it took all day! She and her sister would stand out amongst all of the dark colors, so she was hopeful in finding a familiar burst of color.

There was another storm coming. Jia Li somehow just knew it. The dark clouds covering the blue of the sky, fewer birds flying in the skies choosing instead to stay home and of course the bite the air had all pointed towards it. Much like a bird she had made her way into the tall trees of the forest where there would be shelter.
It was not perhaps the most inviting place she had ever seen at this time of the year. The leaves had fallen leaving angry looking branches bare to face Winter's anger alone. Of course she imagined she would be quite angry herself if her protection from the elements had just fallen from her during a time of need. She found that she had stopped moving as she contemplated the feelings of the trees and quickly reminded her feet just what they were to be doing.
Quickly she made tracks deeper into the woods where any snow would be thinned out by the closeness of the trees. The poor leafless things would not be able to stop it entirely but it would be much better then standing in the open waiting for the wind and ice to freeze her.

Many minutes went by and Jingfei started to get worried. What made matters worse was that the sky was also becoming a bit darker in color. For a moment she felt as though she was in a dream, and her hair flew behind her as a wind gust disrupted her thought. No, she couldn't be dreaming. She was here and in the now trying to find her sister. She had something to do so there was no reason to space out so suddenly.
Just when she started to consider giving up, she looked ahead to see a bright figure. Jingfei felt her expression change drastically, and a gloomy frown transformed into a wide smile. Those colors and that hair.. yes, her sister was amongst her. Rather then yelling or exclaiming, she ran forward so that she could catch up with her sister. She was sure Jia would notice her eventually, so she continued to run forward until she was finally approaching her sister.
"Oh Jia Li, how wonderful it is to finally see you." she let out a long breath of air and moved in to lightly nuzzle her sister. Finally, she had found the light she was looking for in the awful forest! "Maybe we should find some shelter before catching up too much." she looked around and hoped for a cave of some sort.

The sounds of approaching hoof steps drew her attention. She turned her head slightly to see who was coming her way. Her blue eyes lit up to see the sunny form of her sister racing towards her. Jia Li turned about completely to face the horned mare a smile spreading across her face. She had not expected to see any of her family but she was beyond thrilled to see Jingfei. She always had liked the company of her sister.
"It is wonderful to see you Jingfei." She said returning her sister's touch with a nuzzle of her own. Surprise was no reason to be cold to her sister. Some of the best things in life were surprises after all. The threatening clouds however would give perfect reason to leave the catching up to later on. Jingfei was very right, they needed to find shelter or a very cold reunion was in order.
She turned her head this was and that looking for some place within her shelter for greater protection. She knew no such place. "Hmmm...perhaps if we walk in one way or another we will find something?" She offered making a note to spend more time investigating the trees in case she needed to know something else of the sort in a future time.

Jingfei quirked her nose a bit as she thought to herself. There HAD to have been a cave around them somewhere. "Here, follow me. Let's head deeper into the forest and I'm sure that will keep us safe anyways. Chances are we'll come across an opening eventually." She was still smiling even as she spoke, since for her she was truly overjoyed to see her sister's face again!
"Now we can walk and talk, then." she then said, while leading her sister off and back along another gloomy trail. "So what have you been up to, sis?!" Obviously the question was broad, but Jingfei wasn't sure where to start! "It feels like its been ages since we all ran around together. I hope mom and dad plan some sort of reunion or something." Yeah, that would be nice. RIght after Jingfei did grow she tried to stick around Huojin. But he was too busy worrying about some mare, so Jingfei decided it was best to go off on her own.
When she felt another wind gust, she lifted her eyes upward and sighed at the smokey sky. "Every day I find myself hoping that spring will come along and make this place beautiful again. But then I wake up and see that nothings changed. I can't help be childish, but I'm sick of this cold environment!" If only there was someplace warmer she could move!

Jia Li nodded with a smile having no problems with this plan. It was true that the trees would protect them at least until they found shelter. Assuming of course that they would find shelter and with her sister in the lead she held no doubts that they would find a place to stay. Without hesitation she followed after Jingfei the smile never fading from her face despite the weather and the unfortunate condition of the trees.
"What have a been up to?" She asked quirking her brow at the question. How exactly was she supposed to answer that question. There weren't many things that she hadn't been doing since she had parted from her family. "Just traveling really." She said summing up everything with one word. Somehow it didn't feel right to crumple such an amazing stretch of time into one word. "I've seen so many things, sis. A half frozen lake, the ocean, I even saw someone climb up the side of a cliff!" Speaking these things widened her smile. She had been waiting for just such a chance to speak with her family about it but she had always imagined her whole family there to hear.
The breath of the sky drew her attention away from her answer. "Spring will come again I'm sure." She said following her sister's gaze up into the sky. Grey reflected in blue and she frowned slightly. "I suppose, it's natural to wish for things like that...especially in conditions like these..." It was an attempt to make Jingfei feel less childish for wishing. Jia Li herself often wished on the morning breezes though what she wished for wasn't warmer weather, at least not all the time.

Ok, whoa. When Jia was explaining what she had been up to in greater detail, Jingfei felt herself get jealous but excited at the same time! She needed to travel along with her sister! "Ah, I want to see the ocean! And how did you see someone climb a cliff?" Was that even possible? Until now Jingfei had never head of such a thing! "You must tell!" she then said, while giggling lightly. "And it may be that you are just traveling, but I'd say you've already created some amazing experiences and memories." Hmm, Jingfei would need to work on that sort of thing for herself.
In terms of the weather, Jingfei scrunched her face a bit in discomfort and glanced forward. "I'm glad I'm not the only one wishing for the Spring to arrive. Hopefully the spirits will hear us all hoping and change the weather already." But the spirits were busy it seemed. They had enough land to deal with on a daily basis. "The sky tends to look deceiving almost everyday in the wintertime. So hopefully nothing will come from the gloom above us." Snow was so unpredictable.. but Jingfei was hopeful in that it would not disturb her and her sister's time together.
There was one last detail about Jia's travels that Jingfei was dying to know about. "So, have you met a lot of Soquili?" she grinned at the thought and flicked her tail naturally. "With your personality I'm sure you've made all sorts of friends already!" Jia was confident and strong in everything she did, so it wouldn't be surprising to Jingfei if soquili all over were attracted to that quality.

She smiled and laughed a little at her sister's enthusiasm and curiosity over her life. She had to admit she enjoyed it. "There are little ledges along the sides of cliffs and you can climb up them...but they're so tiny in most places you can't stand normally at all. If you tried you'd fall." It was a rather scary thought about how narrow the ledges were but she had seen it with her own eyes and knew it could be done which made it all rather exciting. "They are...nice memories but it's more fun to share them I think." She was completely serious. After all the reason she had gone off to see so many things was to bring back stories to share with her family.
Right now it mostly seemed like her family, or at least her sister, just really wanted the warm weather to return. This wasn't a problem. She could wait patiently for the best time to tell her stories, perhaps when the spring actually returned to them? Until then...her eyes focused on the clouds. "Hopefully nothing will...or perhaps the winds will favor us and blow the clouds away?"
She smiled at the thought of the winds coming to the rescue as she listened to her sister. "I've met a couple others." She said slowly with a bit of a nod thinking about it. Quite literally she had only met two soquili outside of her family while on her own and neither were male. She was not sure if she could consider them friends or not. They spoke kindly with each other but she did not entirely know what defined friendship.

When she heard her sister describe the scene, Jingfei just couldn't envision it. Man, it sounded quite amazing visually! Though to see another try to climb them would be even cooler. "I really need to get out more." she then admitted while smiling at her sister. "The ledges sound cool looking, but I'm glad you didn't injure yourself at all when being near them." Jingfei would have been devastated if her sister was hurt too badly. Then again, Jia was really strong so she could probably handle anything!
"Well I'll admit quite shamefully, I haven't met anyone yet, so that's why I'm totally jealous." she took her eyes off of her sisters and let them bounce around from tree to tree. "Were your few encounters fun at least? I can imagine socializing is fun most of the time!" Well, unless someone really crabby was ruining the situation.
Her eyes changed directions very quickly and Jingfei was amazed to see a cave just ahead of them. As if the timing couldn't be more perfect! She could feel a brisker wind hitting her fur at a strong speed. "Up ahead! I spot a cave!" The cave would be much more pleasant, and she and her sister could relax without any threats of the weather. Jingfei led her sister towards the caves entrance and felt better when they reached past the cave's entrance. "It already feels warmer!" And thank goodness for that.

"I would not be so careless to let myself get into danger like that." she said casting a reassuring smile her sister's way. She avoided getting into sticky situations at all costs. She was more daring then her sister but she was not reckless. If a price for something seemed to high, her life for a new sight for instance, she would not risk it. It was not worth the pain it was cause for the others around her and herself.
A little laugh escaped Jia Li at her sister's words. "Don't be jealous. They were very interesting...a bit fun but mostly strange. There are so many different kinds living on the outside." She was smiling but her voice was very serious. She had no idea what to really think of the few she had met. She tried to keep an open mind about them both but they were so strange compared to her family. Even compared to Houjin they were odd, though they were not as loud.
She was not sure whether it was the wind or her Jingfei's voice that drew her from her thoughts again. Perhaps it was a mixture of the two. Whatever it was though the cave ahead of them brought a smile to her face. The end of the biting wind at her side upon entering brought a content sigh past her lips. "I am grateful for your sharp eyes Jingfei." She could feel the warmth returning to her body and it was wonderful. If not for her sister she would have walked straight passed it.

Well, Jingfei knew that her sister was wise enough not get into trouble. She only giggled while imagining her sister doing such a thing anyways. "Still it makes for a nice story!" And stories were always good! Jingfei was a sucker for any kind of new information.
When she heard her sister say something about her encounters being strange, she tilted her head a bit and wondered what she meant. "So... was it the way they acted? Or how they looked?" She wasn't someone who judged others by looks, but she found it a valid question! "I don't know what I would do if I met someone strange. I'd probably pretend I was sleeping or something." Or run away!
Though, Jingfei was itchin' to meet anybody at this point, so she'd probably think that everybody was the same in personality. "Did they give you good advice or any useful information? Or something you could take away from the conversation at least? I can at least hope for that!" From the sounds of things Jia now had some great tales to tell, so maybe the conversations were worth it.
"I am just thankful that no evil creates came near you at all. I try to be careful in these areas but I never know where the worst of monsters could be lurking." She sighed somewhat and hated knowing that there was danger in the world. She didn't want any kind of trouble, so why would others bring that on to her?

It did make for a nice story which was good. She would hate to have run into Jingfei with nothing interesting to tell her or really anyone else of her blood. "It was really how they acted..." She said cocking her head to one side trying to recall the behavior of those she had met. One sang at the top of her lungs then bolted only to ask odd questions of Jia Li once she caught her. The other, now that she thought on it could have been considered strange as far as looks went as well. She had scales covering half her body and a normal coat covering the rest. She had also been the one climbing the cliffs. She had reason but Jia Li would have headed down and swam for the shore rather then risking a higher fall. "And I'm sure if you met someone truly bizarre pretending to be sleeping would not help." She added with a bit of a laugh.
As for information she was not entirely sure that she had taken much from either encounter. "Well...I found proof of other unicorns outside of our family and that there is another kind with a single horn..." It was painful knowing that she didn't have a great answer for such a question. She had not gone into the meetings thinking that she should bring pearls of wisdom back, she had only wanted stories to tell and to see a bit more of the world.
At the mention of evil creatures she stopped smiling. She was not too terribly worried about them coming near her. She could handle herself well enough and either talk them out of hurting her or make her way somewhere safe. "You know, if anything evil ever comes after you, you should run as fast as you can and find me. I wouldn't want anything to happen to you and I won't let anything hurt you." She was completely serious though it was not because she was a great fighter. It was more of she would throw herself in harms way to protect Jingfei.

Her sister was right, her sleeping idea would have to be worked on! But Jingfei could only giggle lightly as they discussed some of the strange mysteries that existed in the world. "I guess we'll both have to wait and see until we can find the strangest encounter each. Only then can we compare and contrast." So, for now Jingfei would only focus on her sister like she always did!
When she heard Jia talk about other unicorns, Jingfei widened her eyes a bit and felt her own horn on top of her head. "More unicorns? Well.. at least I don't feel as strange now!" She appreciated her sisters finding and nuzzled her lightly. "Luckily most unicorns are kind as a species, so I'd be glad to go out and find some others. If Huojin has been able to survive then I suppose we all have that chance!" Eh, she couldn't help herself. Huojin was usually cracking jokes about her, so lately she was always making jokes about him! "Shen on the other hand knows what he is doing. So I'm never worried about him!"
Jingfei had to admit, she felt herself get a bit emotional when she heard her sister proclaim her protection for her sake. Jia would really do that? "Thank you, Jia." she then said, with a wide smile. "You are always too good to me." But, that's why family was an amazing thing. Jingfei was so lucky to have such an amazing sister. There was something about being the only sisters in the family that gave them a strong bond together, and she was truly grateful to feel that every time she talked to her sister. "Well for your sake and my own, I will try and be careful for the both of us!" It was the least she could do.

She liked that idea. It would be something like a friendly competition and a learning experience all at once. First find a truly bizarre creature and then return and talk about what she found with her sister. Where would she find a really strange one though? In the deep forests, the mountains or beyond the mountains probably. She had heard rumors that strange creatures lived in those dangerous areas. Though, it was probably better to avoid those areas because they were dangerous. She puzzled it over for a moment before deciding it really didn't matter at all.
"Why would you feel strange Jingfei?" She asked with a cocked eyebrow and a smile. Sometimes her sister just did not make sense at all but she loved her more then anyone really. She returned her sister's nuzzle with one of her own and a small giggle. "In a family of seven, four have horns, I would say you would fit in better going off of that." She tried not to comment about her brother but could not help but snort a little in laughter. It was rude to say such things even if they were family and were more or less allowed to torment and poke fun at each other.
"I appreciate that." She said feeling the air about them calm. They were touching on a more serious subject and Jia Li knew this well. She was glad that her sister would try to be careful because she did not much want to end up injured. It was an appropriate price though and if she had to she would pay. Jingfei said she was 'too good' to her. Jia Li didn't buy that. Her sister was worth everything and more. Her whole family was!

Well, maybe she shouldn't have felt strange. Now that her sister brought about the statistics, Jingfei could only chuckle herself. She had the horn after her mother, and her two brothers also carried such a trait. "I guess a part of me just wonders what other unicorns will look like. But I'll let you know once I find them!" It was sort of funny that she ended up with a horn and her sister hadn't. Her sister was the strength in the family, and she was probably the opposite even with such a trait some used for combat! But her mother didn't use if for combat so maybe JIngfei would be alright in that sense.
There was another question Jingfei wanted to ask, and she narrowed her eyes a bit and made a smile circle around her sister. The question would involve some serious sister-talk. Jingfei hoped her sister would be ready for it! "So, Jia, you don't happen to have a boyfriend or anything?" She wiggled her tail in delight as she asked the question and stopped walking when she reached her sister's view again. "You would tell me right away, right?!"
Jingfei knew that she and her sister were 'at' that age now. "Huojin is off with a girlfriend so I have to check up on you too ya know!" she wiggled her nose in a playful glee and knew that her sister would tell her. But, the subject was a fun one to bring up! "I wonder what kind of stallion would suit you best..." she tapped her front hoof as she thought, and knew that he'd have to be just as strong and valiant. "Are you planning on finding such a stallion?" she finally asked, with excited grin.
