SHEMSPEED'S 40 DAYS 40 NIGHTS TOUR

Shemspeed's 40 Days/ 40 Nights Tour is designed to inspire college students across the country to explore their promote positive Jewish identity through innovative music and workshops. An exciting tour flooded with entertainment and education, the NIGHTS will be packed with unforgettable performances from the cutting edge of Jewish musicians while the DAYS will be filled with sessions and workshops led by the musicians themselves on songwriting, music marketing, and spirituality on the road. Students will be connected through a Hillel-wide Battle Of The Bands in which each school's winning band will perform as the opener for the 40 Tour as it comes around.
While most performers usually only show up to a venue, play a concert, and then leave, the artists on the 40 Tour will be interacting with the audience of college students through sessions, infusing Jewish learning with entertainment; educating and encouraging our next generation to learn more about the Jewish music genre. Shemspeed will present performers who have much to contribute to the development of Jewish American identity through their talents and embodiment of Jewish values.
40 Days/ 40 Nights will reach over 8,000 college students directly in its first year, and thousands more through CD hand-outs and media exposure. Stopping at 20-30 colleges, the 40 Tour will join with Hillels and sponsors to promote each show to its maximum capacity. Also, the Battle of the Bands will help create a buzz on campus for the event.

- Bible Text Study / Torah in Modern Music (finding Torah allusions in pop songs)
- Politics & Torah (which party's platform does the Torah fit into?)
- Torah & Social Equality (is the Torah anti-racist? feminist?)
- Judaism and Racial Identity
* The tour will interconnect national Hillels through programming and new media outlets in which students can share this unique experience together. The website will be interactive, with the musicians blogging every day via journals and videos, and the student participants posting their feedback and thoughts. This will develop an online community where discussions that were opened on the tour can be continued...
The days and nights will be filmed and included in the upcoming film by Shemsped entitled, Shemspeed's 40 DAYS 40 NIGHT. (on the road with the semitic music underground spiritualists). Short videos and blog entries will be posted daily on Shemspeed.com everyday of the tour. Students will submit their own writing on the experience to shemspeed.com/40

may be it's because Britian originally took jews out of the Holocaust and then put them in camps in Cyrus, and tried to eliminate Israel before it could become a country for the third time.

They don't fully counteract each other. Britain is still just above Neutral, bordering on Friendly.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Britain took on a lot of Jewish people, sheltering us from poverty and starvation in Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, etc. So it can be forgiven for turning away a much smaller number of us a few years later.
As for the camps in Cyprus, and trying to destroy Israel... that I've never heard of. Like, not a word. I'm not sure I fully believe that. It was British Mandate in Palestine, and although they were harsh (setting up a fascist police system there that were biased towards the Palestinian mobs, etc), at least they gave it up.

It's true. They sent us to camps in Cyprus (thank you for correcting that). There are several fictional books based on it bu Leon Uri (or is it Uri). They are really good. During the last twenty years of the nineteenth century several attempts were made to settle Russian and Romanian Jewish refugees in Cyprus. The first attempt, in 1883, was a settlement of several hundred Russians established in Orides near Papho. In 1885, 27 Romanian families settled on the island as colonists but were not successful in forming communities. Romanian Jews in 1891, again bought land in Cyprus, even though they did not immigrate to the country. Fifteen Russian families under the leadership of Walter Cohen founded a colony in the year 1897 at Margo, with the help of the Ahawat Zion of London and the Jewish Colonisation Association. In 1899, Davis Trietsch, a delegate to the Third Zionist Congress at Basel, in August 1899, attempted to get an endorsement for Jewish colonisation in Cyprus, especially for Romanian Jews. Although, his proposal was refused by the council; Trietsch persisted, convincing two dozen Romanian Jews to immigrate to the land. Twenty-eight Romanian families followed these and received assistance from the Jewish Colonization Association. These settlers established farms at Margo, and at Asheriton. The Jewish Colonisation Association continued to give a small support to the work in Cyprus. Most Jewish communities during the early 1900s were located in Nicosia In 1901 the Jewish population of the island was 63 men and 56 women. In 1902, Theodore Herzl presented in a pamphlet to the Parliamentary committee on alien immigration in London, bearing the title "The Problem of Jewish Immigration to England and the United States Solved by Furthering the Jewish Colonisation of Cyprus." During World War II and the Holocaust, Cyprus played a major role for the Jewish communities of Europe. After the rise of Nazism in 1933, hundreds of Jews escaped to Cyprus. Following the liquidation of the concentration camps of Europe, the British set up a detention camp in Cyprus for Holocaust survivors illegally trying to enter Palestine. From 1946 until the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, the British confined 50,000 Jewish refugees on the island. Once the State of Israel was created, most of the refugees made aliyah. 2,000 babies were born on the island as they waited to enter Israel. But in truth many of the Jews were sent there for no reason, even the ones wanting to go to the US. They are really good.
