We have all heard about this item that has floated around the White Dwarf and internet for some years now. And somewhere around last year it was cancelled.

Why?

The sting is that GW was having too much input on the game, making too many demands and thus restricting the developers, pushing the game back further from it's initial release date and going way over the alotted budget that GW had.

But, Gamespy came with the happy news that Sega was out of the picture (Sega was the old distributor) and that Mystic Online (known for Dark Age of Camelot mmorpg) has taken over, building a complete new game from scratch without the nosy influence of GW.

The article can be read here.

Release for this game is 2007, no more, no less is given.

Still, I would like to hear opinions and thoughts on this matter.

It's nice to know that WarhammerOnline hasn't been abandoned completely. I was quite looking forward to this game, and was really dissapointed when I heard it had been cancelled (as were many others it seems).

I wonder how many of the different races will be playable, and what parts of the world they'll include in the game. Pity it's too early in development to know. crying

Sounds cool, and hey, by 2007 I may have a computer that can play mmorpgs.

I wouldn't bet on having all the races in the game, not from the start and not through add-ons. Still, things are scetchy and hush-hush, but the best would be that it is situated in the Empire and it's surrounding lands (Border Princes etc.).

Bet they'll have Tilea.

I'd like to see Cathay in the game. We don't see enough of that part of the human realm in Fantasy, GW just keeps hinting about it and giving it as some mystical land far away. Maby they're going to pull something like the ogre kingdoms, and produce an army book for it randomly... sweatdrop

But yeah, that's what I'd like to see in WarhammerOnline.

My best bet is, think of Mordheim, but then blown up into a larger digital world.

Id be thinking that it would be more akin to age of empires

I'm betting World of Warcraft, except World of Warhammer.

I hope not, I don't want another game filled with senseless item gathering, killing a set amount of enemies or traveling across the continents without a horse. But if it uses the same system, that should be a great start, with people starting their own warbands, advancing together, as I said, much like Mordheim.

hmmm i don't know...without the meddling of GW won't there be some important bits missing ?
i'm thinking about less famous stuff which was in white dwarfs.
think about : the battle of la maisontaal , the happenings during the dark shadows campaign and archaon's bloody path through the old world...

stare You can't win them all, remember that most of the people playing it will be unaware of the history and things that happened on the table top.

Most wouldn't understand why it's better to have GW out of the picture, as it leaves the creators with more input of their own, leaving them to their own devices and ideas. GW wanted the game to be molded into their vision a 100%, thus it began to cost more and more, making it impossible for the game to release on the said date this year.

Still, it's a shame that they'll take out a lot. They'll probably leave out tons of races, kind of like in the RTS games they've made for 40K (Dawn of War, Winter Assault, etc.). They're good games, but they dissapoint in that aspect...

Personally, I play Chaos. I wonder how the PKing thing will work. Certain areas where you can kill people or just everywhere or what?
