User ImageDespite the complete darkness of night on the savannah it was as loud and busy as ever at the watering hole. Creatures of all sorts came to slake their thirsts in the waters made cool after the sun had set. From the large herd of elephants that splashed and sucked down water noisily at one end of the water to the small servals lapping carefully, keeping an eye out for any danger.

A few other larger creatures roamed about... another lion walked stiff-legged and agressive, a water buffalo stood munching it's cud completely unworried of attack. Pao would have to be starving before he went after one of those bad-tempered creatures by himself.

The orangy lion found a spot near the water's edge, leaning down for a cool, refreshing drink. Ears alert and swivling to follow the different sounds amongst the cacophony created around him.

Thirsty thirsty thirsty! Kukuruza's tongue hung out of his mouth as he spotted the watering hole in the distance. Finally! He'd gotten turned around sometime back, and been wandering long past when he'd meant to be. Having found no water, he'd become more and more harried until he'd finally gotten himself back on track. From there it had been a dead run to where he knew the water must be.

Unfortunately in his haste, he missed the lounging lion, and he sped right over the poor fellow, tripping on and trampling him before finally coming to a stop, knee-deep in the watering hole. Around the area, silence had fallen. Then, finally, a meek laugh from the cheetah.

"Heh...carry on folks! Nothing to see here..." Oh how he wished he could just hide under a rock right about now.

Paoum splutered as something hard and fast collided into his side, causing him to jerk forward. The impact was swift and left his side stinging... not only that but whateveritwas had stepped on his head. With a slight rumble the lion stood up, shaking himself to recover from the surprise attack and cast about to see who the offender was.

Standing in the shallows was a rather wet and sheepish looking cheetah. The initial shock of something interupting the usual buzz of the watering hole was wearing off and the other creatures had begun to go about their own business once more, as though nothing had happened.

Pao sighed and sat down at the edge of the water again, tail curling at his side in a mix of amusement and perhaps a little annoyance. "Perhaps you should either pay more attention while running or move at a slower pace when it's so dark." He looked the other cat up and down, guessing that he was still young, strong, and foolhardy.

Kukuruza had ducked his head the moment the staring crowd had begun to go back to normal, and was gulping mouthfuls of water so fast, he may as well have been trying to catch a fish in his mouth. Sated after a moment, he sat back (still in the water) and sighed blissfully.

"--slower pace when it's so dark." Huh? He looked over his shoulder and grinned innocently at the lion there. Probably the one he'd trampled. "Ah, yeah, I was sort of dying of thirst. I got lost and..." He waved a paw about with a splash.

"Anyways, sorry I ran you over! I didn't hurt you, did I?"

Paoum sighed in resignition and lay back down by the water's edge. "No, you didn't, thank you." He let a paw dip lazily into the water, enjoying the cool feel.

With a snort of laughter he shook his mane. "You were lost? Are you not familiar with these parts or did you get confused?" Somehow he thought perhaps it was the latter. This was by far one of the more colorful characters he'd met in quite some time. Then again, a life of solitude suddenly broken by daily interactions with strangers would make anyone with more energy than he seem 'colorful'. He didn't dislike it, though. On the contrary he found he wasn't sure how he'd gone so long as a hermit.

"You aren't hurt, though. Are you? That was quite a fall. I think you turned over on your tail twice." Again a soft snort of laughter.

Kuku busied himself by drinking a bit more water. Nothing like critical thirst to make you want to drown yourself a bit. "Got turned around in one of the areas I'm less familiar with." He explained. Of course, he'd only been through the area once before, so that an area was 'familiar' wasn't saying much.

"Nope, I'm right as rain! Or well, rain that's the good kind. Not the kind that makes things flood. That's bad rain to be, isn't it? I fall a lot too. Head-over-tail twice is pretty good though. Usually I only manage one turn!"

"Should I call you Ena then?" Paoum remains in his rather comfortable spot at the edge of the water, tail flicking over his side as he yawns. The copious amounts of energy (he seemed the embodiment of his species) and recklessness did not grate on the older lion, rather made him chuckle and wonder what life would have been like if he'd been that way as a cub.

"Where are you usually from?"

"Ena? Oh, no. I'm Kukuruza! Kuku's fine!" The cheetah amended as he stood and shook himself, his little tufts of hair frazzling out in every direction. He trotted back to shore and past Paoum, right to a nice dusty patch of bare ground. With an OOMPH! he'd flopped over on his side, and proceded to dry himself by rolling around and kicking, like many prey beasts were known to do.

"Sorry, I think I missed your name...I'm from, I don't really know anymore."

"It's Paoum." He watched as the cheetah kicked up dust as he rolled his lanky body around. It reminded him of how an elephant. "You were just in the water... won't that make mud rather than... whatever it is your trying to do?" This cheetah continued to take the large lion by surprise.

"Ah... I can't really say I'm from somewhere either, truthfully. I suppose anywhere but a pride's lands is where I roam."

Kuku continued his thrashing before finally pulling himself from the muck, splattered with tan splotches of mud. "Heh, yeah...but the mud keeps the bugs off, and it'll fall off later." He plopped himself on his rump near Paoum, and on a whim raised a foot to scratch behind his ear. Of course, that sent mud flying, mainly at the lion. Kuku seemed not to notice.

"That'd be the same for me, yeah. Though I guess sometimes I cut through prides. So long as I keep running it's safe."
