Samantha grinned at the beautiful scene that lay before her. Several acres covered in sculptures made of ice and snow, coloured ice, frosted ice and even a real small walk through castle made of snow bricks. All part of the annual Gaia snow and ice festival . A celebration showing off the skills of artists all over Gaia and their abilities to work wonders in snow and ice. It was favoured celebration of Samantha's and one she attended every year
" Look but don't touch" Samantha reminded the girl as she placed a hand on Winona's shoulder and guided the girl past the front gate and onto the festival grounds. Young and excitable Winona could be dangerous if she was left to examine things with her usual enthusiasm.
Winona sighed and stuffed her three fingered hands into the pockets of her Jacket. Everything looked so nice though, shiny or sparkly and she wanted to feel it, to know if ice sculptures felt the same as the icicles that hung down from the porch roof at home. It wasn't like she wanted to break anything. Still, her tail flicked back and forth behind her lazily showing her contentment for the most part.

Caps loved the snow. She loved the ice. There was something strangely fun about the cold substance. It could be molded into anything, it could take the color of anything - and the skill it took to manipulate such a substance was something that she had always appreciated.
It was a high risk running about in the dead of winter, particularly at such a wonder-filled event; but she had never cared about danger. What did danger matter in life? It was a small fragment not meant to conflict with the endeavors of adventure, and she was nothing more than a child herself, a young teenager waddling along stiffly in her thin jacket and ball-cap as if they would provide a bit of warmth. The cold hadn't phased her smile, however, and as she led Luc along the pathway, she could only help but sigh with giddy content. "I always have loved these." She had cooed.
Luc had looked up at her curiously. He had never seen an ice sculpture. He hadn't even known someone could sculpt ice. The substance was solid; it seemed inflexible, unlike metal, and iron, and gear. He supposed there was a way. Fire was a powerful force, but the beautiful things that stood before him? They surpassed his mind, and his childish curiosity wanted to know all that it could. Thus he walked along, slack-jawed and wide-eyed; his shoulders occasionally quivered beneath the over-sized coat that he had borrowed from Pockets' bag. It was almost a blanket, the thick flannel and plain swallowing him to his knees and well beyond his hands. At the very least it kept him warm, but it hadn't made walking easy. He would occasionally trip, nearly running into statue after statue.
"Careful! You don't need to break any of these!" Caps would scold him as they went along. He would roll his eyes and grin.
"I en't doing it on purpose."
With something of a huff, he had felt his tail begin to wag. He had grinned from cheek to cheek before bounding off, tugging Caps along. He wanted to look at the castle. "I want to see this one!"
"Ah, Luc! Luc, don't run!" Caps had staggered after him, scurrying along without much mind to where she was going.

The snow castle rose high above the rest of the sculptures and was without a doubt the center of attention even if perhaps some of the delicate ice faeries or horse drawn snow carriages had a more lifelike or technical quality to them. There was something truly majestic about the towering mass of carefully stacked and carved snow. Something that draw all who saw it to it.
Winona was no exception and while she thought that a Christmas tree carved of ice with batter powered lights inside was really really cool, and could they please have one, she wanted to go inside the snow castle and thus dragged Samantha towards it with dogged determination. " It's one I can go inside and touch. I see people touching it."
With little regard for the people around her or a little thing called balance Winona trekked forward recklessly and before Samantha could say anything the small girl's hooves slid out from under her and she tumbled to the slightly slippery ground.

Luc had nearly toppled over himself once he had reached the castle. It was a wonderful thing, and, looking up at it, he could only begin to deconstruct its architecture. He had shifted left and right with earnest joy, tapping the occasional brick with mild curiosity. "Caps, look at this!"
Caps had hummed as she caught her balance, planting her feet firmly. She had heaved a great sigh as she leaned to look at whatever it was Luc was talking about. It had been a close call. She had almost ...
She slipped when a bit of air had rushed by her. With a loud gasp and a slight squeal, Caps had fallen to the ground, landing flat on her rear and sliding onto her back as Winona had tumbled by into the castle.
Luc had looked over his shoulder, his ears and tail sinking at the sight. "Whoa! You okay?" He had stated generally, confused as to whether or not he needed to help either of them. He wasn't sure he could if he tried.

Winona scrambled to her feet and shook her head to clear it. " I'm Ok." Finally up she looked aroudn at the inside of the first part of the castle in wonder it was so pretty. There were even windows with panes of ice as glass in them. it was more than worth falling for. Although for the moment her attention was briefly brought back to the boy who was looking at her and someone else. " Hi"
" My apologies Winona is a bit over enthusiastic about things." Samantha said as she looked carefully over the young woman who'd also fallen. " Do you need a hand?" She'd have commented on the girl's less then winter proofed clothing if it hadn't been for the fact that for all she knew this person radiated heat like furnace. it was never ever good to judge by appearances on Gaia.

He had come to with a quick shake of his head. Luc's messy hair had rattled in time with his ears until sound struck him. He wasn't sure what the funny girl who had just tumbled through was - but that had never stopped him before. Little had stopped him before.
Caps had laughed lightly as she held out a hand to accept the offer. "If you don't mind? Today hasn't been my day for balance." Her voice was calm, nonchalant in a sense, and perky. "... It's alright!" She had added after a delay. "Kids, right? One minute they're perfectly calm, the next they're dashing off into some crazy scheme!" She had smiled broadly, without hesitation.
Luc had shaken his head to himself, blinking a few times before searching the ground. If Caps was talking, it was safe. It smelt safe anyway, but he had started doubting the integrity of his own sniffer. Brushing it off, Luc's ears had lifted as slightly as they would. He had grinned a doggish grin before tilting his head at Winona. "You wanted to see the castle too?" He'd asked, patting one of the brick until the cold made him recoil.

Winona nodded " It looks so neat," She too reached out to touch the snow with her small three fingered hands. With hard ended fingers she could withstand the chilly contact better than the average person. Leaning forward she breathed out all hot against the frozen snow and smiled in glee as the large than normal steam cloud that appeared. The silvery air was pretty even if it didn't last very long.
Samantha just nodded, reached out and pulled the younger woman to her feet. " I know what you means in both cases." The auburn haired woman hadn't been a parent for long but she had plenty of memories of babysitting cousins and neighbors kids. She knew what they could be like and Winona was really no different so far despite her looks.

"Thank you ..." Caps had smiled broadly as she straightened herself. Her nimble hands had fixed her hat with what may have been construed as meticulous dedication. Everyone had their own particular quirks and habits; for Caps, it was her hats. "For the help." She had added after a moment of thought.
She had hummed a moment, shuffling her feet against the ground in a kiddish manner as she looked about the castle. Being surrounded by so much snow made everything seem colder. "But, you end up loving the little rascals. Kids, I mean." Caps had motioned towards Luc. "I'm always babysitting. This one's trouble."
Luc had snorted briefly in the direction of the older crowd before returning his attention to Winona. The conversation of children wasn't that interesting, and he was rather intrigued by the look and smell of the buffalo girl, enough so that his nose had wriggled as he gave a large sniff of the air. A doggish habit, of course, but it was a formality.
"It's amazing." He had spoken of the castle. "Putting it together must have been hard! All of these bricks, and they're neatly stacked ..." He could feel his tail wagging with excitement. "Do you know how they build these things?"

Winona shook her head, she didn't have the slightest clue about how things were made. " Very carefully." she pointed up to one of the windows made of ice "Maybe they used ice to hold the snow together in some places." The girl has noticed snow balls coated in ice seemed to not fall apart even if she accidentally stepped on them." Like they poured water in between the bricks but not enough to turn the ice slushy."
Samantha laughed and nodded " I've only recently started caring for Winona but she's already wormed her way into my heart." It was unavoidable really, children just had natural talent to appeal to most people.

Luc would have commended her observation had he not been so enthralled with the discovery. His eyes had brightened as he observed the window from the distance. Again he had tried to touch the slow, rolling the flannel shirt over his hands to try and absorb a bit of the cold. Ice. That made perfect sense! The ice would harden, and the snow would not break, because it would be trapped within a box. How clever! "That makes perfect sense!" He had given a yipe. "That makes absolute perfect sense. I wouldn't have thought about that."
"Oh, they do that! There's one other I usually watch, and, I swear. They can't make me angry." Caps had smiled sheepishly. "So, you're here to enjoy the festivities too? It's a shame this doesn't happen year round. I always thought it was cool how they shape the ice."

Winona startled at the boy's loud exclamation and jumped a bit but smiled anyways at having been the one to suggest the idea.Curiosity getting the better of her she strayed to the edge of the current room to peek into the next. There seemed to be one more beyond that and then a door.
The auburn haired woman nodded " I always come to watch every year, you do it often enough and you can start to recognize who carved certain things becuase they have particular ways of carving things." There were always new people too and as far as she remembered this was the first year the snow palace had had a chandelier. Seeing as it was made of frosted ice she imagined it was probably molded around an actual one you couldn't see for structural integrity. No one wanted twenty or so pounds of ice crashing down on their head and that'd be one hell of a lawsuit.

Being the technical young man that he was, Luc could only marvel at the discovery and ideology behind the architecture. It was fascinating, though, admittedly, he found himself easily dulled by the prospects of ice and construction. Neither were his forte, however intriguing they were to look at - but he could only observe so much before the mysteries would begin to lose their glamor.
Breaking for a moment, he had peered in time to noticed the wild young girl slipping away to peek into another room; then he had looked back to Caps to gauge her face for something. She seemed preoccupied and safe, and Luc wanted a look himself. It wouldn't hurt to have a look. Inhaling a deep breath, he too had slipped away, peeking into the next room as his tail drooped from the anxious feeling within his stomach. "What do you see?"
"Oh, you definitely can!" Caps had smiled broadly, proud of herself for being a festive nut. There were beautiful things lodged all about. Swans, and dolphins, and tigers, bears, and people ... Each had their own markings, and, year after year of similar contestants, one was bound to learn names or recognize methodology. "Especially if they carve similar things. I know there's this very nice old man who carves nothing but cars out of ice."

" It's a church thing like on tv" Winona said excitedly" there's one them of them funny coloured windows and and a tall table and benches." Wondering of sitting on a snow bench was different then falling back and sitting in a pile of snow the girl slipped away fully into the other room.
Her ears flicked a litle to catch the sounds of the few other people in the room talking but mostly Winona was concerned with the benches. There were others her age sitting and standing on them so she should be fine right?
With a careful hop she seated herself on the closest one. instantly feeling cold seeping through her pants to free her little bottom . Still it was sort of neat to sit on a bench made of snow. With a smile she turned and waved for Luc to follow her.
" I don't think I know who that is but I do believe I've seen a few of those cars. I can't imagine the time it must take to make them, especially full scale" Samantha was quite happy with her chosen career though she did wish she had a hint of artist talent like this.

"Tv?" Luc had given Winona a funny look. Television. He knew what it was, of course! He could remember it vaguely when they had passed through the town one afternoon. They had stopped for a brief moment on the edge of the street, peering through the windows as a funny man's head talked on a screen, a box floating next to it. Even so, it seemed absurd that anyone would enjoy watching a talking head.
The matter became irrelevant, however, as the girl slipped away. Luc had glanced over his shoulder somewhat anxiously; he had inhaled a deep breath, and without a sound, he was hurrying after her. He wanted to see more too.
"Longer than I could sit still." Caps had acknowledged thoughtfully, her fingers grasping her chin as she looked towards the ceiling. "It's a shame they melt."

The Bison girl waited patiently on her bench for Luc to catch up " I dunno what's going on" she whispered " but it's kind of cool." The pace looked like a church from on Tv but there was no minister man and so singing people. Still the benches and stained glass window made of ice were pretty neat and made it feel sort of like a church, not that the girl had even been in one.
" Sort of" Samantha replied " Then again I imagine they'd lose their appeal if we could see them all the time." She figured it was liek driving which had held so much mystique and aww to her as a child and when she was first learning. years went by and d needed to drive every day made it lose any magic it might once have held in her eyes. To see these kinds of sculptures all the time would make them something she expected and took for granted which always seemed to strip away some form of beauty.
