Feathers flapping in the wind, Madoa Waya was on the move. Running at near top speed, she appeared very focused on wherever she was going and managed to avoid all obstacles that normally might put one in danger of tripping if they did not pay careful attention. While she looked like a lioness with a plan, the youth actually had no clear idea of what exactly she was going to spend her afternoon doing. Rare were the times she actually pulled something off, but she never let the failures (or incomplete attempts) get to her.
So, paying little attention to her surroundings, she just kept running.

The young and studious Tala, deep in thought, had seen nor heard any sign of a disturbance quickly approaching his person. No, he was carefully and quietly observing a little bird, his curiosity piqued by the tiny creature's actions. Smiling softly as the young thing hobbled closer and closer, he was perfectly content to lay here all afternoon watching it. What better company was there than something so precious? Nothing! And besides, think of all the incredible things he might learn in his observations!
Only moments before it was too late, Tala finally heard the thunderous approach of another creature- what on Earth was it DOING? Flicking his ears up, Tala looked around in confusion in an attempt to pinpoint what exactly was approaching him so quickly. Finally, as the lioness came into view, he scrambled up quickly and snarled at the little avian to scare it out of harm's way...
...only to be hit dead-on by the lioness as he did so. Falling to the ground with a heavy thud, the young lion was stunned out of any earlier thoughts he'd been having, be they profound or not. Terribly, horribly dazed, Tala raised his head with a slight groan as he attempted to see straight and figure just who had hit him.
"W...who're you?" He grumbled out, vision still fuzzy and head throbbing horribly. "A..and what were you DOING? You could've seriously hurt someone, you know."
Well. She easily would've hurt that poor little bird more than she'd harmed him, anyway.

While Madoa seemed very tuned into the smaller objects that could trip her, she was completely blind sided by the smaller lion that popped up out of, seemingly, no where. For a split second, he almost looked like he was going to get out of the way- but he didn't, and she tumbled head first over him and was brought to a very sudden and rather painful stop.
Scrambling around to right herself, and stretching her neck while waiting to regain equilibrium, she looked blearily at the stranger that had tripped her and was now grumbling at her for it.
"W-what?" she said, finally feeling right once again- and stomping a foot down emphatically, "You tripped me! That's more dangerous than just running, I'd say." Her expression was serious, but the feather on her ear was stuck up at an angle and her pouch and feather around her neck was completely turned around backwards. She looked rather ridiculous.

"I... I most certainly was not intending to trip you!" He objected, poofing out his chest slightly in annoyance. "I was observing, and then- thanks to YOUR running- protecting a little bird! YOU should watch where you're going! I don't have to be on alert for stampeding lions at all times." Tala grumbled, shaking himself slightly as to dislodge anything from his fur. Huffing slightly, he finally turned to get a better view of the lioness.
...And nearly laughed when he looked over her once more. Padding over to stand closer to her, Tala was already at work turning her pouch the right-way and attempting to adjust the feather on her year. His voice taking on a slight paternal tone, he shook his head in mild amusement. "Really. And what would've happened if you'd hurt yourself, hm? You have to be more careful than that when you're just charging around.
Stepping back once more, Tala sat a respectable distance away from the lioness, and put on his kindest and best introduction-giving smile. "Well. Despite the earlier mishap, it's nice to meet you! I'm Taladu Subiani, but you can call me Tala."

"Well, I most certainly was not intending to trip over you," she argued without hesitation. And still with an almost angry expression on her face, she looked at him. Only looked, she said nothing else and moved not another muscle- even when he boldly moved closer and righted her feathers. He was a very interesting little lion suddenly, and it was evident in the way she stared.
"Wait a minute!" she said, barely letting him finish his introduction of himself, "Wait right there." And Madoa stepped around him carefully and then jogged a couple steps before slowing down to a stop and then she only stared- giving no indication of what she was looking at.

"Well, my apologies, then," he sniffed lightly at this, turning his head away ever-so-slightly away from the girl. "But really," he started, tone not hostile in the slightest anymore, "I don't... it's not entirely my fault, is it? I think if we both take a bit of the blame, and accept that, well..." smiling back to the girl once more, he flicked his tail in happiness. "That just sounds better, doesn't it?"
When the girl interrupted him towards the end of his introduction, Tala fell dead quiet, readily obeying her command to wait. Raising an eyebrow, he said nothing else, watching as she... well, watched him. Honestly, this was a bit.. strange. Not horribly, terribly weird, but definitely enough to make him feel a tad uncomfortable. Shifting slightly under the girl's gaze, Tala's eyes fell to the ground, ears flattening against his head.
"I.. oh. Uhm.. what're you doing?" He asked quietly, frowning ever-so-slightly at his predicament. Trying to watch her- and observe, as she was doing, Tala sighed.
"Can I at least... have your name, or something?"

"Shhh!" she shushed him, very focused on whatever she was looking at now and completely ignoring his asking for her name. She ducked down and kept her eyes on a very shiny blue beetle. Madoa didn't say anything but she knew it was perfect- but for what exactly, she couldn't say. She glanced back over her shoulder to Tala.
"Psst, come here!" she called, "Come here!"
Tala was going to help her, she seemed very certain of that.

When shushed, Tala fell perfectly silent- and while he was slightly offended, yes, he was beginning to realize that maybe this was just how the other lioness was. Biting his lower lip, he slightly rolled his eyes. Well. That WOULD explain... a lot of things, really. But so far, she was at least entertaining, if not anything else. And maybe, if he observed her more, he could put together just what was going on in her head. It was... a game, really. Smiling at this, Tala felt satisfied with his reasoning.
At the quiet beckon to follow the girl, he did so stealthily, sneaking over to her on tip-toe and as tensely as possible. Standing next to her, muscles tensed- and admittedly, heart racing- he looked up to her curiously.
"What're we doing?" He whispered in response, still desperate to put together what she was thinking.
He could figure this out. He WOULD.

"Shh!" she hushed him again, and in a much louder voice than he had been using. Her eyes stayed on the beetle, which seemed completely unconcerned with whatever sounds they were making.
"We have to catch that," she said quietly, not indicating what she was talking about more than 'that', and inched forward slowly. Then she stopped and waited. After a moment, she looked over at Tala expectantly. Clearly, she had been waiting a moment for him.
"Go get it,"she instructed, and backed up a bit so he was in the lead. Once she was behind him, she turned and looked rather like she was going to run off.

When hushed again, he mumbled a very soft apology, then followed her gaze off to the beetle. What... what was she planning? Watching the thing in silence a moment, he barely registered when she spoke, too deeply enamored in his thoughts. Tala had to backtrack and think over her words once more to figure out what she had said, and nodded mutely in response.
As the girl backed away, Tala lowered himself to the ground and tensed a moment, springing forward when he felt it best. It took a moment of fumbling- more than a moment, really, as catching tiny bugs really wasn't his area of expertise. When he finally had the beetle within his grasp, held gently but firmly under a paw, Tala turned back to look to the strange girl once more.
"Got it." He stated simply, too confused and trying to piece this puzzle together to offer any kindness. Cocking his head to the side slightly, he frowned.
"Now what?"

Maddie practically jumped when he said he got it, despite his rather calm tone at the accomplishment. She turned around very quickly to see the outcome, pleased to see Tala holding his paws over the ground so gently- obviously it was still alive. She turned around again and hurriedly finished what she had turned to do- she was digging a small hole in the dirt.
"OK, bring it over here," she said, "But be careful!" Then she got up again and started looking around for something else.

Watching as she dug the hole in the dirt, Tala couldn't help but frown slightly. No matter how he thought about this or considered it, it made absolutely no sense. Maybe she was stupid? Or... was she thinking on an entirely different level than him? If that was the case, then... shuddering slightly at the thought, he tried to not consider that as a possibility. He was intelligent, and had a good head for a boy his age. Just because she was older than him didn't mean he was a fool!
"Alright." He responded softly, bending over to gently take the beetle in his mouth. Cringing horribly at the way it tasted, and trying not to crush the thing with his teeth as he made an unhappy face, he padded over to where the girl was waiting. Still holding the poor creature in his mouth, he spoke in a muffled tone- barely intelligible, but understandable if she tried.
"And now..?" Hopefully it would be something that would get this... thing... out of his mouth. UGH. It tasted absolutely HORRIBLE.
He would definitely be getting a drink once this whole thing was done with.

Maddie watched Tala walk over, not seeming at all concerned with how he had picked it up- though she watched it very carefully. It would be dreadful if he crushed the poor thing. Though she wouldn't say it didn't deserve it! That bug had been evading her for weeks now. She nodded seriously when he got to the little hole in the ground, and then nodded towards it.
"Put it in!" she instructed, sounding as if it were a very obvious next step to follow, "Be careful, and don't let it get away."

He listened carefully to her instructions, and nodded gently- enough as to not disturb the bug- when she instructed him further on placing it into the hole. Considering the task a moment, Tala wondered how he might get the bug into the spot without the thing flying away. Trying to push it forward with his tongue, the poor boy finally got the creature out of his mouth (thank goodness, he'd later add) and into the hole, gently covering it with his paws. Looking up to the girl again, Tala silently awaited further instruction.
Staring at the seemingly crazy girl, Tala frowned. Why was he still going along with this? It was foolishness! Her logic made absolutely no sense!
..Then why was he still here? Sighing to himself, Tala figured he might be going crazy as well, and simply waited for her to explain more.

Thrilled to have caught the bug finally, even with help, Maddie was smiling widely. She nodded when he got it into the hole and covered it up, laughing triumphantly despite the unusual look Tala gave her. Perfect, that meant they could move on..!
"OK!" she said, "You just wait here." Very suddenly, Maddie turned around and started to scramble away. There were some things she needed to get now if this was going to go right!
"Don't let it get away!" she called back, "I'll be right back!"
But she never was.
