((This thread is for myself and Lady in the Golden Wood only. 8D ))

User Image Each day followed a seemingly delicate schedule that should not be disturbed lest one wish to risk the balance of the universe. Every moment was carefully planned. Each sigh the perfect length and volume. If there was ever to be an award given for the most perfect meticulous Drei around, naturally this one was under the firm impression that he deserved it. His high and haughty fancy to-do attitude had only come upon him recently, but wasn't that simply a mark of Fate? He himself saw it as nothing less than the most blessed miracle of all blessed miracles. For how might one not think it so?

In days of youth, he had periodically made a visit to the Garden to preen and fret over every little flower petal, for he could only dream of being so gorgeous. It wasn't that he wished to attained that beauty exactly, but rather the splendid and sparkling glory and valor that came with being like that. Gorgeous things could be denied as nothing less, and he wished for nothing more than to be that way too. To be fascinatingly beautiful would be a sin! It would be a delicious crime he could revel in for all his life. It was not that he minded being plain, it was merely that he preferred being the center of attention much more.

Yes. Perhaps that was the right way to describe it. And so, to his gentle and pleased surprise, when he grew he was granted his heart's desire. He now was as gorgeous as the Garden he so adored, and his prissy self found himself more and more conceited every day. If someone couldn't respect his beauty, or acknowledge it, than he had no reason to speak to them. Plain people should be pitied and the gorgeous should be compared to the Garden, for the Garden was still the only thing he considered prettier than himself.

Hence why he was walking amongst it again today. It was the ritual. Part one, wake up and make sure you look fabulous. Check! Part two, stroll through the Garden to feed the flowers and compare yourself. Check! Part three, sit about in the sun admiring the world's fragile beauty. Incomplete! The third thing on his list was in fact the next, but right now he had what looked to be water cupped in his hands. This he took with a subtle gesture from a nearby pond and spread it out like glitter upon all the flowers so that they sparkled and shimmered in the makeshift dew. He too became slightly inconvenienced by the little droplets, which he sported like a new outfit and posed as if they fit. Smiling softly, a look he would only give the flowers, he hummed a little, continuing his antics. There was no shame in this, no matter what any might say.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. The little pink pala shivered slightly in the chilly air as she skipped cheerfully along the path. A biting wind blew through the air causing her to shiver again. Though her fur kept her moderately warm, it didn't seem to stop the cold wind from slicing into her heart. The dreaded cold season had finally arrived and a thin blanket of snow covered the ground like fairy dust. Christmas was coming soon and her owner's house was already full of the whift of a good many foods and the tree had been all set up and decorated. All that tinsel and ornaments all over it and song and laughter sounding through the house. To be honest with herself, she had become almost as fed up with all the noise as her sister, Kafei, was. THe little pala had finally decided to abandon the noisy sanctuary of the house and go and get some peace and quiet. So here Kiana was, skipping around in the freezing trying to keep warm as she skipped towards the Garden.

It just felt like the Garden deserved a capital "G". She had only found it a few days before when she was hurrying home And then, she hadn't been able to examine it closely for she had to return home before her mother had started getting worried. But now, she had all the time in the world to look and take care of every single petal. Her bright green eyes danced happily at the thought. It was a pity that none of her sisters had come with her. Kafei had fretted about all the snow getting on her fur and that she really didn't want to be bombarded with a great many snowballs... not without good reason. As for Halia, Kiana couldn't find her, but she had good reason to think that her sister might be sneaking a peak at all the Christmas presents under the tree.

Kiana had almost reached the Garden now as she slowed herself to a walk. Her long chestnut brown hair fanned around her like another fur coat as she clutched the long pink ribbon that she always held as she went towards the direction of the Garden. The Garden, there were no other words to describe it but beautiful. Her eyes sparkled at the chance of walking among the flowers that she had only had a glimpse of before. Kiana's own adoration of flowers and beauty had led her to adorn herself with flowers much like her father. Vines were entwined around her wrists and neck. Butterflies sometimes flew around her as if she was a mini garden of her own. But compared to the Garden, no, she was only but a fragment of its beauty, like an ant comparing itself to an elephant. There were little things in the world that Kiana admired and one of them was the Garden. She smiled playfully as she entered it.

The little pink pala blinked, coming to a short stop. Only a few moments before, she had let out an exclamation of joy at the sight of the Garden, but now she noticed another pala standing in the garden with her. He had been barely visible due to his colors that blended neatly with the rest of the garden, but now she had noticed him. A glimmer of curiousity glew in Kiana's eyes as she took in the stranger's appearance.

Standing proudly amongst what he considered to be no less than his brethren, the conceited Drei (though perhaps that is a repetitive statement), was looking forlornly along the flowerbeds now, seeking out any stray weeds or dying petals. It seemed that he could hear all of the world speak to him through this place. For although outside this area it seemed cold and chilly, he felt none of that here. Though it should have been different, to him it was only summer occurring again in winter. A mix up of seasons, yes, but beauty prevailed through all hardships. What sort of place would this be if it could not? Delicately, holding out his hand, he observed as a small yellow butterfly sought out a perch upon him. It fluttered once, twice, and then lay still and calm on his hand. A grand smile caressed his lips, for butterflies, he thought, were just as amazing as all the flowers. Without butterflies, one could not truly call out life's beauty. Butterflies seemed insanely attracted to anything gorgeous, and so Aedyn felt privileged to be one of these things.

Fluffing his shoulder length honey brown hair, he let his deep teal eyes graze over the flowers on himself. Wrapped in vines that made a sort of necklace and sleeve combination, he was certainly a unique looking thing. These vines continued down his legs, speckled with flowers and of course, the piece de resistance... his most prized flower, a beautiful Bird of Paradise. Paradise. Aedyn had been named for that Paradise. He had once been named something different a long time ago, but upon gaining all this beauty, he could not stand the old name and chose a new one... more similar to a sort of Paradise. The name he'd chosen had exuded excellence and superiority. Beauty and longing. Something just out of reach at all times... for this is what he was. Aedyn never dared let another touch him, nor did he make much contact.

The Garden was his only friend. It was the only thing he needed. It was the only thing worthy of his presence. For it was the only thing as beautiful as he was. The only thing he knew that he was even close to in beauty. Nothing and no one could ever compare to such an adoration! Just then, his sparkling eyes grazed over something that didn't belong, but only slightly. The colors were a little off, the flowers a little too bright, the luster and sheen a bit too... wrong. He knew every inch of his Garden, and whatever it was, it wasn't part of it, although it had almost evaded him.

Turning with the grace of an elegant dancer, he locked eyes with it and tilted his head. Someone else. Frowning a little, he assessed it, not quite sure what it really was but knowing that it was sort of like him and that it was cute. Not beautiful, but cute. Pretty, but not gorgeous. Still, that was better than most others could say, and so he would find his voice and talk to it. Her. Him. Whatever it was. Besides, he simply couldn't allow intruders even if they look like they belonged.

"Who are you?" his voice was singsong, and almost a little bitter, but still crisp and clean like the morning air. It was as beautiful as he was, and just as catching, though what he hoped to catch, no one really knew.

Kiana studied the stranger closely. The pala looked strangely like herself. Pink fur, brown hair and the flowers. Perhaps they were long lost cousins? She twitched at the though. No, that couldn't be possible, as far she she knew, she was the only one in the family with pink fur and brown hair. Strange though, that there might be a pala so much like her with her right at this moment. A slight dash of annoyance shot through her as she contemplated the similarity. She had been spoiled constantly by her parents resulting the little pink pala to have a certain aloftness and deliacy that nonetheless caused her to treat stranger in a condensending manner and treating rather like the little dolls she played with when she was child. Yet here there was a pala, looking very much like her. How strange, and slightly annoying it was.

The little pink pala had long held her own belief that she was herself in her uniqueness. Rather less vain than her sister, Kafei, about her beauty, but Kiana always deemed herself pretty and thought that she was well enough was and hadn't particulary cared about it. As long as she looked pretty, and not ugly like some smelly toad in the mud, she was content. After all, she absolutely despised the thought of sitting still and staring at herself in the mirror all the time. How boring it was, really queer how her sister could do it all the time. Yet, she had always prided herself with the flowers she adorned herself with. The bright yellow flowers wrapped around her hair in tangles and the vines on her shoulderblades. As well as the big yellow one on top of her head the resembled the one of her father's. It was these flowers that let her stand out among her sisters so and she was happy about it. But here there was a stranger looking very much like her.

Kiana's ears twitched at the question. It would have been much more politer to say a greeting before asking a straight out question. She could detect a hint of bitterness in it, but ignored it. Ah well, it was her that had intruded on the stranger's place without warning. She twirled one of the strands of her brown hair with a finger, making it even curlier as she continued to examine the stranger in front of her critically. Perhaps he would supply her with some amusement in this bitter cold, after all, Mommy had always mentioned that making friends was fun. "Hi! I'm Kiana." She replied, offering a warm smile,"And who may you be?"

]Aedyn had expected many things from the other, but not what actually happened. This was only further proof that he had no idea how to socialize and that he preferred to look down upon others, rather then meet their eye. It seemed all that easier rather than taking the pains of communicating properly. Stepping on eggshells and pins and needles was not a pastime the Pala could say he particularly enjoyed. No of course not, how could anyone like that? It was easier to come right out and say things. Skirting around the issue was useless.

And it was this trait that made him a bit of an outcast even without his own help. Others simply couldn't accept it and saw him as nothing less than a rude little brat. Prissy and gorgeous but with a tongue sharper than knives. Despite this, he was certainly not the brightest crayon in the box. His knowledge was limited to only things he cared about, and if something wasn't interesting, he was quick to rid himself of it. Waste of space and worthless nothings. However, this did not mean he didn't understand certain emotions! It was because of his conceit and haughty attitude that he knew what love was. He was a narcissist, and so naturally, he loved himself more than anything. As he saw it, there was nothing about him not worthy of love, and so he would love it all.

With everyone else, there were always flaws. For instance, the female, as she clearly was, had a few flaws. Those white markings? They stood out too much, didn't quite blend. A compliment, yes, but only to her and not to her beauty or the flowers. Her eye color was a little too subtle, in fact, everything about her was. Sure, she looked a little like him, but not enough for him to be bothered. She was far too light, her colors were all subdued and mild in compared to his bright exotic ones. It was that dullness that made her fade against the background she had chosen, and that was enough of a flaw.

He found that by this one encounter, he was extremely critical and that he had wasted the precious he could have spent interrogating her, thinking of her instead. His face contorted a little, halfway between a grimace and a smirk. He couldn't quite tell what emotion he wanted to wear. He wasn't impolite, that was for sure, but he really never thought too highly of 'talking' to people. It just wasn't his ...thing. He preferred the silent company of the flowers.

"Aedyn," he hummed, standing up a little straighter, tilting his head with the slightest bit of curiosity. Everything calculated. He had never really felt natural around others like him, he only felt natural amongst flowers, and she was certainly no flower.

"Aedyn." Kiana repeated, feeling the word roll off her tongue. Aedyn, what a strange name. Did it mean anything in particular? She knew that her own name meant heavenly and divine in Hawaiian, but what could "Aedyn" mean? Surely something to do with flowers or some of the sort, considering his appearance? Ah well, whatever. She mentally shrugged. After all, considering such little things only wasted her time and distracted her from the things at hand.

Kiana twitched an ear in amusement. That was fake, held back. She had long been used to seeing through the acts of others. After all, one of the perhaps best actresses in the world lived right in her house. The pale blue pala named Cassiela had long amused herself with toying with others and perhaps some of her had rubbed on Kiana for now, she herself had the tendency to play with and see through others though not having the right skill to manipulate them. Yet still, the aura around Aedyn seemed very much like Cassiela's, full of indifference, just that Aedyn's had a tinge of narcissism. It seemed that unlike Cassiela's way of just bluntly shoving her cruel and unfeeling emotions up front while concerning some of the more darker thoughts inside, always having a smile of nonchalance on as she faced the world, Aedyn seemed not to know what emotion to show. How interesting...

"The Garden really is very beautiful isn't it? It's amazing that flowers so gorgeous could be found it. I wondered who grew them here in the first place." She said thoughtfully. Yes, nice casual conversation to allow herself more time to examine this new pala's character. Perhaps even make friends with him. After all, friends were supposed to be fun to play with, weren't they? "Did you?"

Raising an eyebrow slightly as she repeated his name, he wondered what the point of that was. Was there a reason someone felt the need to repeat what had been said? Was it a memorization tactic? Was it because the word was strange? Eyes narrowed slightly, if that was the case he wasn't quite sure how to take it. Having an encounter and an ensuing conversation was a lot more complicated than he'd predicted. So this was why he'd always shunned from it. He'd forgotten the real reason long ago; it was just too much of a hassle to be burdened by. Sighing slightly, he turned back to face the flowers. It was much easier to look at them than at her. They were peaceful, quiet, and they didn't expect anything from him. He didn't have to prove that he was beautiful. Then again, he didn't have to prove that now either. He was. He didn't need confirmation of it, so he was unlike certain other loudmouth actors who had to go out of their way for attention.

Perplexed, he turned back to her, folding his arms a little and... amazingly enough... not tangling up his vines and flowers in the process. He supposed he had to go back to the conversation. Despite how he didn't like it much, he was not improper. Flowers could have grace, and sometimes they had to deal with unwanted conditions as well. There was no reason Aedyn could not do the same. He could have the strength and beauty of the entire Garden.

"No. I have simply been caring for them for a long time," and with that he shrugged very lightly, very elegantly, as if it was no big feat at all. And it wasn't. To him, it was just a part of his life. There was nothing particularly special about caring for the entire place. He just devoted himself to and loved it that much. Perking up though, he noticed how she had called them gorgeous and could honor that statement with a small proud smile, as if she had been complimenting him, "They are beautiful, aren't they?" There was a fondness in that statement previously unseen to him. Yes. He didn't care about what people thought of him, even if it seemed out of character. What character did he really have to speak of anyway?

Aedyn was just Aedyn. And that was that.

Kiana blinked. That was suprising, she had originally thought that he must have been the one who planted the Garden in the first place. Who had been the one who had planted it in the first place then? She paused considering the point before saying,"You take very good care of them then. They all look very healthy considering that normally these types of flowers don't bloom in the winter. I think that they are mainly found in the tropics...It's amazing that they are still blooming." She smiled happily and the fondness in the other pala's next statement. He must really love flowers.

"Mhm. They are very beautiful." She nodded thoughtfully and continued,"You must be a very good gardener or else caretaker. I doubt the flowers in this garden could have survived in this bitter cold weather without you." Kiana herself had taken a great interest in gardening once before, but due to the unlucky circumstances that she was born at the end of this autumn, she had little time to plant and grow a garden, much less time to even learn and experience it. Yes, she had tried quite a few times, but the dry brown dirt refused to let any seedlings grow as the weather grew colder still. Finally, she had given up this amusement due to the severe climate and supplied her own amusement by helping out with the little plants in her own house. Yet taking care of those little green plants didn't supply as much joy as looking at the Garden. Ah well, might as wait for spring then, though that seemed ages away where she could perhaps plant a garden of her own.

Gently, Aedyn let his gentle hands fondly handle the flowers as he turned back to them ignoring her a moment. It was amazing, he supposed. Amazing. Almost magical, but not quite. In truth, Aedyn hadn't ever really noticed that while the outside world was bitter and frigid, his world had been nothing but sunshine and perfume. Dapper daffodils and fanciful fauna that didn't dally in showing off. Everything else was a nuisance, an unwanted specimen in the circle of life. Beauty and compassion rolled into the most beautiful place in the whole world. There nothing more perfect or wonderful than the Garden. Nothing. And there never would be.

Not looking at her anymore, for it was a tiresome thing to be social, he wondered how to take her words. Clearly they were meant to be compliments, and they did affect him in the normal way: swelling ego. But he already had one of those. Unlike most others, he didn't need the praise to reaffirm his abilities. And so what to say to her? Nodding a little, he continued looking over his flowers, "It takes pains to be beautiful. I think they could endure worse than this, merely I live through it with them..." He smiled a little, proud to be able to compare himself so closely to his beloved Garden.
PostPosted: Fri Dec 26, 2008 8:10 am

Kiana blinked, the other pala seemed to be confident in himself that he shouldn't need any compliments to reaffirm himself. What a pity, just another waste of words that probably caused him to be even more confident of himself. Aedyn seemed to be independent by himself and his flowers, not particularly caring about others as Kiana took notice when he drew his attention back to the plants. He must not have known that proper conversation etiquette was to have eye contact with the companian. Ah well, not that it particularly mattered. He was a pretty interesting character to watch though she didn’t have much experience from this for this was the first pala that she had ever gotten in contact with outside of her family and Cassiela. A very interesting experience it was too. She highly doubted that he would come to consider her as a friend though, more of a kind of acquaintance considering his personality that she had since thus far. He seemed nice enough though the narcissism irritated her a bit. Ah well, everything had a flaw, didn’t it?

She paused, a small smile creeping on her lips as she listened to the pala’s reply,”You must love them a lot, don’t you? To be to look after them like this even though the ground outside of the Garden is covered in snow. After all, it’s Christmas Eve.” Hmmm…perhaps she could discover something new about the pala now. It was strange that there would be someone else other than herself who would be out here when a fire was roaring inside the houses and Christmas cheer in the air though of course the Garden had its merits. ”You do celebrate Christmas, don’t you? I would expect most people to be home now spreading the holiday cheer.” She paused,”Well, aside from me. I got a bit sick of all the holiday carols being sung all over the place and the sparkling lights all over the place. It made my head hurt.” She made a face. ”What about you?”

It took the Drei a moment to answer. He had concentrated most of his efforts upon the flowers now, caring for them with as much devotion as any father might dote upon a young child. It wasn't necessarily that Aedyn was unkind, merely that he didn't understand the etiquette everyone else went by. He only knew what he had discovered himself, and he was confident enough with that. Confident enough in everything he didn't that he really didn't have to question things. Nothing aside from flowers ever really captured his interest unless it could rank in beauty with him. Sure, Kiana was close, but not enough so that she could captivate his attention. If she had been that way, he would've certainly invited her to sit amongst the flowers with him and perhaps made a better effort, since it would be no different than assuming the flowers could talk back.

A silly thought, that, but it was how he computed things. Everything went back to the Garden in someway. It was as much him as he was it.

But at her words, he found himself looking at her with an incredulous curiosity, "Christmas? No. I don't even know what that is..." He said it very matter-of-fact, like it was a normal thing. Almost as if anyone that did know, was completely ludicrous. He seemed to have a knack for being condescending indirectly. A real talent, though perhaps not a good one, whether he meant it or not. "Carols? Lights? It sounds almost... useless. A waste of energy for something that can't be beautiful anyway. It's too artificial sounding." And with that, he raised his eyebrow and tilted his head, giving her a bit more attention now. It wasn't that he really cared, but she had said something strange and somehow he felt insulted by it (though it was impossible to tell from his reaction). And so this was simply a matter of pride.

The little pink pala's emerald green eyes blinked again. Eh? The drei didn't know Christmas? An incredulous look came onto Kiana's face. As far as she was concerned, everybody knew about Christmas, maybe not all celebrated it, but of course everybody knew it. Had the pala before her not go to a simple convenience store for the past two months? Seriously, Christmas things were on the shelves as soon as Halloween was over. Santa was waving nearly from all the windows, Christmas trees glowing through the windows as she had passed by. There were so many Christmas lights on, plastic deer grazing on people's backyards. To be living in the middle of all this and not know Christmas? That was outrageous! Despicable! This pala was idiotic, how could he not know Christmas? And to say it in a matter-of-fact voice? Blah. She wrinkled her noise slightly at his attitude. But seriously, how could he not know Christmas?

After a few moments of still trying to digest the pala's obliviousness, she said finally,"Christmas is a holiday. And you do know what a holiday is, yes? Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December when families typically get together and just be happy. And of course there are carols and lights and presents." She paused, trying to consider Aedyn's point. Well, as far as she was concerned, everything had beauty in its own way...well, aside from things like slugs, cockaroaches, squids...yeah. She guessed that Aedyn must have some decree about nothing being as beautiful as himself wasn't worth any attention. She sighed,"Well, carols and lights aren't meant make things beautiful, pyshically. It's more like spreading all the holiday cheer, to make everybody happy." She gave a small smile, hoping that the other pala could understand it.

Distastefully, he watched a variety of reactions spread across the other Pala's face. She had stopped for awhile on a look that he despised. He used it on everyone else, but naturally to use it on him was blasphemous and unacceptable. It was the look of a haughty know-it-all who couldn't believe the 'idiot' kneeling before her. Yes. He knew that look. He knew it well. He could easily guess his own expressions and how they might look. It was a shame, she was entirely ugly when she wrinkled her nose. Ruining the flowers with such an ugly face, he almost wished she could be punished for such a crime. Almost. He never really extended his nexus of caring to encircle other people. She would soon be gone, he hoped, and then he could get back to the peaceful and undisturbed silence of his Garden.

He listened to her with a grain of soil now, not really in the mood for this game of 'socializing' anymore. Especially not after being so told off. You do know what a holiday is, yes? This made even him frown and if Aedyn enjoyed sarcasm or found it useful to him in any way, he would have used it in his next reply. However, he found it unsophisticated and shrugged away most of her words, "I am happy here with the Garden. I do not need lights, carols, or this... Christmas."
PostPosted: Wed Dec 31, 2008 11:33 am

Kiana gave a small sigh, noting the other pala's displeasure. No doubt he was hoping that she would soon be gone and leave him in peace. What a pity that that wasn't going to happen anytime soon though. The little pink pala was having too much fun to leave now. Mother was right, meeting new people is quite fun. Little did Kiana know that she had interpreted it inaccuaratly. And even if she knew, she would probably shrug her shoulders and not care about it. For such was the character she was, seeing others as a source of amusement instead of on the same level as herself. It didn't really matter if others got annoyed by her. In fact, it was amusing to Kiana that she should be the source of frustration for another pala. Very interesting experience.

She paused. She was well aware that she had been rather rude to Aedyn when she had allowed her mask to slide and all her shock and increduality to show on her face when she had heard that he didn't know about Christmas. But alas, it was really quite shocking. Who didn't know about Christmas? Well, apparently the pala before her didn't and didn't seem to be interested in it anyway. Instead, he seemed to be more attentive to the Garden than anything else. But why would that be? Had Aedyn's world revolved around the Garden so much that he had forgotten all else that there was in life? She pursed her lips as she thought of the question. Who was he? Where did he come from? Kiana played around with the thoughts in her mind. This was an interesting pala. After awhile, she remembered that she had yet to respond to the conversation.

"The Garden isn't the only thing in the world to be happy with. There's pretty of other stuff out there that's fun too...like Christmas."

Honestly, what was this Pala's obsession with Christmas? She really was just wasting her time here, and not only her own time, but Aedyn's too. There was a strong wish for her to simply go away and leave his Garden in peace again, but he knew that she would probably do no such thing. She seemed interested in the place, as well as him. Well, he couldn't blame her for that. She was plain and boring in comparison to the beauty he and his Garden shared. There were very few things in life, if any at all, that were as worth looking at than he and the Garden were.

"The Garden is the only happiness I need," he commented, having felt rather insulted by that condescending tone she had used on his Garden. What did she know honestly? Nothing. She was obsessed with petty and fake holidays. She wasted the little beauty she had on silly frivolous things that made no sense to the Drei. Why waste effort on something that simply wasn't worth it? He saw no benefit in caring for a holiday like Christmas. The Garden had much more to give back to him. It shared beauty and brightened his days. How could she possibly know or understand it? She wasn't gifted enough. Aedyn realized his thoughts were cruel, but he had never cared for fickle unnatural things, and this other creature reeked of them. He could not stand her chatting much longer.
