A long day was ahead of him as Seiki soared through the skies. It was daylight, a strange time for him because he normally stayed hidden in the Jungle of Sleep during the day. He had to move though, something in his heart told him so. As he soared through the sky above the slowly thinning trees of the Jungle he looked towards the sea, at the western Island. Did anything live on that island, and what did it even look like on it.

Rolling himself away from the clouds, his body shimmering like a thousand stars in the sky. What a great feeling it was to have a face full of wind. His claws flexing at the pure enjoyment of a face full of wind.

Continuing on his strange daytime journey he came to a clearing very close to the sea. His backdrop was the foreboding Western Island. Was his heart telling him to take a look, or was there something around this little clearing that was important to him?

I will figure it out soon enough... he thought as he lay himself down on the sandy ground. The heat of the sand making his whole body calm. Maybe he would take a nap and when he awoke have a better idea of what was to come. "Good night..." he whispered as he soon feel into a deep sleep as the sun heated his dark body and the sand around him.

A large, dark shape moved swiftly through the water, unperturbed by the volcanic island looming to its left. Overhead flew a Dire Owl, its bright colors making it visible in the darkening sky. It swooped down upon the swimming shadow as if it were trying to catch a spectacular fish, wheeling away with an indignant squawk when a Merdrac’s head broke through the surface, causing a great wave. The Owl took in the aquatic dragon’s toothy, shameless smirk and released a round of harsh whistles, cries, and clicks, obviously angry. Ignoring the loud bird, the Merdrac scanned the shore with golden eyes, searching for something.

The Merdrac, Alvilda, had come to this place to meet Sin Vanya, the newest Painter her human had befriended. Spying a dark lump upon the shore, she sped over, fully intending to splash it, slowing down when she realized that the shape was not Sin Vanya. Slowing further, a mischievous grin curled up her lips as she slipped quietly through the water and hauled her great body onto the dry, sandy land.

“ Hoy dere!” She bellowed. “ Lest I be much mistaken – and I'm ‘friad dat s’not the case – den you s’not Sin Vanya. What are ya doin’ in dis place?”

{{ Alvilda tends to replace "th" with "d" in the front of her words, amongst other things.

Sin Vanya will appear in a post or two.}}

He had been dreaming of a rather wonderful little waterfall full of rocks, wonderfully vivid green plants scattered about the area when he heard a rock talk to him disturbing him greatly. Rocks had genders? Who was this Sin Vanya? Was this her area and the rocks watched over the area for her? He looked around his surroundings but spotted nothing that would give him a clue about this Sin Vanya that the rock spoke of. Looking back at the strange rock he began to smell a very strong scent of sea. He wasn't around the sea in the dream, and you couldn't smell in dreams either.

His body lurched as he jumped awake, his eyes bright and shocked. There was someone there, and it was more than likely her that spoke. "Oh my goodness I thought I was loosing my mind. Dreaming rocks could speak! Thank goodness it is just you." He looked over at the curiously colored merdrac and cocked his head. Had he feel asleep at the beach? Looking past the female that spoke to him he looked toward the Western Island. The realization that he was in direct sunlight soon followed when he noticed the bright light that was being reflected from his scales.

"Ugh.. I hate you sunlight!" Brow furrowing he looked towards the female merdac again. She was on the sand? Didn't that hurt her? "Are you uncomfortable being on land Miss?" He rolled his shoulders in order to stretch his spine as he spoke to her, still curios as to who this 'Sin Vanya' was. "Oh.. and no. I am not this Sin Vanya you speak of. Are you looking for her?' Maybe he could help find her friend for her.

"Oh! My name is Seiki by the way. Nice to meet you Miss..." Smiling he raised paw in an attempt to shake with her.

“ I confess dat I ‘ave never heard of no talkin’ rocks.” Alvilda cocked her head to the side, causing the jewelry on her head fin to swing as she studied the Aviadracus. He was smaller then her, but that was to be expected; Merdracs were, after all, quite large. On the other hand, he was larger then the feather-wing Sayuri with which Alvilda was acquainted.

“ I’ll ‘ave to tell Sayuri dat she’s a runt.” Alvilda chuckled to herself before pondering the male’s question. “ Uncomfortable? Aye, I’m uncomfortable, but ‘ow else am I supposed to talk with you landlubbers? Sin Vanya and I ‘ave got business to do, but she thinks dat da water is goin’ to sneak out da ocean and throttle ‘er.”

Alvilda let out a barking laugh, amused at the very thought.

“ Well, since you asked all nice ‘n all, I guess dere be no harm in tellin’ you my name, though I ‘ope you take no offence if I don’t shake yer paw.” Having only two legs with which to support her upper body, she rather needed them both.“ I be Alvilda, and Sin Vanya is one of dem wingless four-legs. She is supposed to be comin’ and meetin’ me ‘ere to give me some supplies, but maybe she ‘eard da water and lost ‘er nerve.”

"Well I most certainly hope you have never heard a rock talk to you, I would be concerned for your state of being." Seiki laughed loudly as he looked over the female again. She was weird looking, her face painted closely to mock a true skull. Unnerving but very cool. As he continued to watch the female her noticed the soft flapping of wings. Shifting his eyes up he caught sight of the brightly colored dire owl and smiled. It had been awhile since he seen his familiar Nora, he would have to go looking for her later.

"Hah, most females are smaller than males and to be honest I am pretty small for a male." The breeze blew softly cooling his rather hot body. A dark body was never good in the sun, and one that could reflect it was even worse. "it is sort of embarrassing but I do believe it is because of my diet." Fruit, nuts, vegetation, insects and the occasional fish or rabbit, what a wonderful diet indeed.

She had a point, Merdrac were constricted to sea while most painters were either constricted to the sky or the land. "If only you could walk the land and still swim the sea. It would be so much easier on your race." Frowning at her he pressed his lips together in thought. "She is afraid of the water? Do you have any idea why?" He knew that fear was a very strange thing, but to be afraid of water, Crazy.

Noticing that she indeed did need both legs to support her body he slowly lowered his paw in embarrassment. "Sorry, I didn't think that one through all the way." Chuckling his embarrassment off he caught her name, Alvilda. "Your name is wonderful!" her exclaimed trying it out himself. "Alvilda... Alvilda. Love it. " He had no idea what she was talking about though. There was a race with no wings? "Do you know what species she is a part of? I am not sure I have ever seen a painter like that before."

“ So you like my name, eh? My human told me ‘ow some other humans call themselves “pirates” and she told all ‘bout what they be like. I took a fancy to ‘er tales, so I decided I wanted to look like a “pirate”; fits me nice, seein’ as my human says I’m named after a pirate.”

Alvilda loved the concept of the swashbuckling racketeers and considered herself to be the Sandpaint equivalent, so the fact that she like to jabber about pirates and related topics was not so unusual.

“ Sin Vanya is a – what did my human call dem? – a Chi’lin. I don’t think she can swim too good, if she can swim at all, so dat might ‘ave somethin’ to do with why she be scared of water.”

A movement beneath the shadowy eaves caught Alvilda’s attention, as well as the attention of the Dire Owl, Alf. As four fiery, glowing balls floated out from between the trees, Alf dived towards them, causing the balls of light to scatter in panic. Alvilda was prepared to ignore her familiar’s antics and resume her conversation with Seiki when a new voice stopped her.

“ Will you kindly stop your pesky Owl from chasing my spirits away?”

Lips pulling back in a grin, Alvilda turned to spy two glowing eyes amongst the shadows.

“ I’ll call ‘im off if you come out and be social.”

A snort could be heard and soon the owner of the unusual eyes stepped out into the moonlight. The newcomer was revealed to be a Chi’lin who’s body glittered faintly in the pale light.

“ I had planned on coming out anyway.”

“ Sure ya’ did. Now, why don’t ya’ be nice and introduce yerself?”

Sin Vanya stood, unmoving, giving Alvilda a piercing look. With a grumbling sigh the Merdrac looked around for her wayward charge and, spying him closing in on one of the sprites, called out,“ Alf, leave ‘em be!”

Seemingly pleased that the Dire Owl had relented in its chase, Sin Vanya turned her attention towards Seiki.

“ Greetings. My name is Sin Vanya, and this is my familiar Pa-Kh’keeka.” She curled her tail around her, revealing a molten Salamander clinging to some leather straps wrapped about the horns of her tail. “ You needn’t worry about trying to pronounce her name.”

{{Sin Vanya should have the Advent spirits, recolored to look somewhat like fire.}}

His face it up as Alvilda spoke to him. What in the world were pirates; did they all have skulls painted on their faces or was it something special? His head kept filling with questions about the topic of pirates that is almost hurt him to not know what they actually were. With a tail flicking back and forth in the sand the male watched her intently, eating up the information hat was given like a starved dog.

Seiki was a creature of curiosity. He lived to find out new information and use his knowledge later to inform, impress or just entertain himself or others. To bring up a topic about something that he had never heard of was like giving a child a large box of puzzles. There were so many ways to use and enjoy new information.

With lips pressed together in thought his mind conjured up what he thought a pirate would look like. Large, striped, ad painted. Humans were truly strange when it came to being different. So many ways for them to hide who they truly are, or allow them to to state what they were.

"Will you tell me about the Pirates some time? I have never heard of them until just now and am rather interested in the concept. Do they... -Well, um, do the have painted faces to match a skull like yours?"

Cheeks reddened in embarrassment for asking such a questions. He was more than likely wrong, so why had he asked? Kicking himself mentally for asking such a stupid question her looked up as Alvilda continued.

"Chi'Lin?" Head cocked to the side in curiosity. Why had he never seen a painter such as that? It sounded like a creature that would be easily spotted in flight, thought, he did fly at night most of the time. "It must be tou-"

He trailed off as he watched Alvildas's dire owl, Alf, attack the glowing spheres at the edge of the forest. Never before had he seen such a thing and found it rather enchanting to watch as they danced to and fro in an attempt to hide from the madly screeching owl. Where had they come from, and why were there two others set so close together that glimmered gold.

Squinting at the gold glimmering orbs he shivered. Those were not the same as the red orbs; those were eyes of a painter! Seiki was wordless for a moment as he watched the two converse. He had guessed that the female with the glowing eyes had been other one that Alvilda was looking for. Sin Vanya.

As she made her way out his head bowed down in polite greeting before raising his head ot stare at the salamander clinging to her tail. " What a strange creature! What s it?"

Sin Vanya’s fiery spirits twirled away from the Dire Owl, returning to Sin Vanya. Alf landed by Alvilda, scraping at the sand with his talons while eyeing the spirits. Diverting his attention with a nudge of her elbow, Alvilda ensured that her familiar was not about to attack the Chi’lin’s companions before answering Seiki’s question.

“ Tell ya’ ‘bout pirates? I’ll tell ya’ all ya’ want to know ‘bout pirates, ‘n maybe more. You best have a lot o’ time on yer claws if you be serious ‘bout that.”

Although it was difficult to tell, Sin Vanya rolled her eyes here.

“ Alvilda doesn’t lie, she loves to lecture about pirates.”

Alvilda sent Sin Vanya a half-hearted glare for interrupting her before continuing.

“ As for the skull, well, lot’s o’ pirates used skulls ‘n bones identify demselves.”

Pa-Kh’keeka was fascinated by Seiki’s colors. The little Salamander tensed up before flinging herself at the starry Painter, intent upon examining his colors up close. Sin Vanya quickly lashed her tail out, catching the Salamander mid-jump.

“ My apologies. Ph-Kh’keeka does not understand such things as boundaries and permission. She is my companion, a Mythic Ember Salamander, but she is not very intelligent.”
