He sighed and shifted Magdelen up onto one shoulder. This would be the second time he saw Dr. Calgori over the same stupid pocket watch. It was getting to the point where he wanted to just send the watch back home to get fixed, except that wasn't an option. Luka was lucky he could send messages to his family! Sending a material thing was probably out of the question.

"Hello, Magda," he said, gently disentangling her from his necklace. She had gotten her little hands tangled up again. "Now, there might be another little girl or a big cabbage. Leave the cabbage alone. The little girl, now, that'd be all right, wouldn't it? Well, ask first, though."

"Kay," said Magdelen, bringing the chain of his necklace back to her mouth and chewing quite contentedly. He knocked on the door of the Doctor's house, uncertain as to who to expect...

Emma sighed when she heard the knock on the door, and sat down her duster. Today had been full of interruptions. She answered the door swiftly and was surprised to find a young man on the steps with a small child in his arms.

"Hello." She said smoothly. "You'll be here for the Doctor, I suspect. He's in his lab but if you'll follow me I shall show you to him." As she opened the door further to allow them into the house she heard a noise from the hallway behind her and turned to see Isabella standing directly behind her.

"Who is it, Emma?" She asked politely, in a quiet voice, her eyes fixated on the man and the child.

"Good morning," Luka said, bobbing his head. "Yes, ma'am, I would appreciate it." He set Magdelen down, holding her hands until she found her feet; the white-haired girl toddled forward and before long her ivory eyes found Isabella. Something like curiosity colored her stare for just a moment, but it was gone as fast as it arrived.

"Magdelen," she said in a tone bizarrely free of inflection for a girl so young. She frowned and looked back at her father. "Daddy."

The man hung his head, sighed, and then smiled as Isabella. "It's good to meet you," he said.

"It is nice to meet you too." Isabella replied, looking at Magdelen then at Emma. "May I play with her?" She asked in her polite little voice. Emma frowned.

"If her father does not mind, then yes." Emma said thoughtfully. "The doctor would not take kindly to having a child in is laboratory."

"Can Magdelen and I play?" Isabella asked again, this time posing the question to the man Magdelen had identified as 'daddy'.

Luka nodded sagely, made a shooing motion with one hand. "Go on, Magdelen." Then white-haired child took a few steps towards Isabella, then glanced back again. Was her daddy really gonna let this silly frilly pink thing drag her off? Well, not really drag. But was he really gonna let her go like that? He smiled back, and she stopped in front of Isabella.

"Where?"

Then her father turned to look at Emma. "Could you show me to the laboratory, please?"

Emma nodded and motioned the man down the hallway, throwing one last watchful look back at Isabella. Isabella was examining her new playmate with a childish curiosity.

"Hello." She said finally. "I'm Bella."

"Am Magdelen," said the white-haired girl. Against herself, she wanted to like this girl- even though she really didn't, since this Bella was silly and frilly and pink, all of which were bad but combined they were like a cardinal sin, at least for this girl. Other people, she might make exceptions, but...

She scowled. But then, she had to be here until her father was ready to go. "What you want to play," she asked sulkily.

"Uh. . ." Bella knew it was unladylike to stare, but the girl had white hair. It was all too weird.

"We can play in my room." She said. "I have dollies and stuff but I don't really like my room too much, it's big and I don't feel good in it so I mostly play in my studio where I like to dance can you dance." She stopped abruptly when she realized that her words sounded like one very long garbled mess.

Okay. She really did not want to like this girl. "Don't stare," Magdelen admonished. Then she had to spend several minutes just figuring out what Isabella had said. The silence, though, was freezing cold. She admitted reluctantly, "I never try dancing."

"Why not?" Bella asked slowly, trying to talk like a normal person. "Dancing is fun, and good for you. I think you could do it if you tried, whould you like to try?" She bit her lip and paused for a moment to let her offer sink in. "I can help show you." She smiled and offered her hand to the other child.

"Because I do not like it," she said bluntly, as if she'd assimilated in just one moment Bella's coordinated speech pattern; from her mouth, though, it sounded like a mockery. "I do not want to try, because dancing is something silly pink things do and I am not silly and I am not pink."

All evidence to the contrary, of course, the deep rose shade of her clothing being quite silly and pink. But it was rather clear that Magdelen would not put up with anyone actually thinking she herself was silly. Or pink. Clearly, she was a nice shade of white.

Isabell blushed, she didn't think she was silly. Pink, maybe, but she liked pink so she didn't mind being it. But silly she was not.

"Okay. . ." She said slowly, the exciment gone from her face. "Then what to you like, Maggie?" Maybe she needed to appeal herself to the other girl, and try and get her to open up.
