Omoa, as usual, was prancing along her little invisible pathway across the borders of the roguelands. It wasn't really the borders, per se, but it was close to her home pride and close to the wandering lands, so it might as well be a border.

She sang a happy little song to herself, thinking of how big her little siblings were getting. They were! They were quickly going to be as big as her, and even though she was a good bit older than them, her size did not reflect her age. At all. She could very well remain the size of a juvenile for the rest of her life, but her attitude and outlook on the world would quickly reveal her true age.
It was a dilemma, but she looked past it.

As she walked along, shaking the bangs out of her eyes with a smile on her face, Omoa looked around the area and spotted a few lone lions. She wondered what their stories were, and also wondered if she would meet them. If not now, perhaps one day.

Jasiri'ka yawned, and stretched himself as he stopped in his tracks. Looking around, his nose twitched as he lifted his head to sniff the air. Was he nearing another pride? Maybe he should ask for permission to stay for the night; maybe they have a spare den... It was nice to sleep under the stars, with nothing but your own shadow as your companion, but it can get pretty lonely just being by himself.

Sometimes he wish his father had enlisted him into the pride... Then maybe these things wouldn't have happened. But you learn to let go. You learn to move on. You learn to cherish what you once had. You learn to believe things can be better. The male smiled to himself, and continued walking, this time towards what he believe to be the pride territory from the rogue lands.

As Omoa walked along, tail low to the ground for comfort, she spotted a large orange lion rumbling along towards her pride. Straight towards them. It wasn't as if he was aiming for that direction, but would suddenly switch to another. She could see his confidence in his step, and she smiled.

Someone interested!

"Good morning!" she called out, bounding closer to him. It wasn't a warning call; she didn't want to scare him off. "Where are you headed so early in the day, sir?" Her good manners began to come out; Jethro had taught her some things as she had gotten older. It was good to have that line of formality there, between yourself and a stranger, she was taught.

"Goo-Good morning!" Jasiri'ka replied in surprise, blinking at the younger female in front of him. After a few seconds, he regained his composure and with a bright smile, nodded briefly in greeting. This lioness sure was small compared to him! However, she seems to be older than what her physical size was telling him. Sitting down on his haunches, he tilted his head as he thought about how to reply to her question.

"Well... Uh, I was thinking of heading to the pride up front," The male smiled again, gesturing towards the horizon with his head. "To ask for permission to stay for the day, and get shelter for the night. It gets lonely wandering around the rogue lands by yourself sometimes! It's nice to have others to talk to once in a while!"

Pausing for a moment, he continued, "By the way, I'm Jasiri'ka, but you can call me Jasiri for short... What's your name?"

Omoa beamed up brightly at the male. He was interested in her pride! This was great news. But he sure was big. When he sat down, this male was still a good bit taller than she. It didn't bother her. She was used to being always smaller than all the other lions she met. Even Ithie had been bigger, when they had been cubs.

"I know that feeling," she laughed. "Wanting to talk with others and to have a nice shelter for the night." Omoa smiled kindly at him. "I was once a rogue as well, before I found my family." Then she laughed at herself; she was being so silly.

"Oh, how rude of me! I am Omoa, it is so nice to meet you, Jasiri. I am a part of the pride you seek; I will gladly escort you into our lands, if you'd like. We always have extra room for whoever needs it. Wandering lions such as yourself."

"Its nice to meet you too, and thank you for the escort offer, Omoa! That would be great!" Jasiri'ka grinned happily, rather relieved at finding an escort so quickly. He know some prides can be more than just a little weary of strangers wandering into their lands uninvited, so it was always good to have someone show you around instead, and to signal that you mean them no harm.

Tilting his head curiously, the male couldn't help asking, "But what are you doing out in the rogue lands? Since you now have a pride... I thought most don't leave their own lands?"

Still smiling, she bounded off to the side and gestured for him to follow her. The pride lands weren't too far away, but they could have a nice conversation as they walked.

"Our pride is different," Omoa began to explain. "The Simbafutaji pride is made up of nomadic lions. And other creatures, for that matter. But we offer a home to any who need it, who are wandering past and can't find one on their own. They can either become a member of the pride and always be welcomed back from the journey, or they can stay a night and then leave the next morning. We aren't truly strict with our rules, or as far as I can tell, anyway." Truth be told, Omoa only knew what was necessary for her pride. Other than that, it was all boring stuff to her.

"But you can get more (and better) information from my father, Jethro. He's one of the leaders." She puffed out her chest fur in pride. "I sometimes come out here to the rogue lands to just walk and explore. I tell stories to my little sisters and brother. And in the case of meeting new lions," she gave a friendly wink, "I introduce myself and my pride."

Jasiri'ka followed the smaller lion, listening attentively as they walked. Part of what she was saying, he already knew from a lioness he had ran into, but there were still some interesting facts - like how he can stay in the pride even if he wasn't a member. Hopefully, this will make the joining process easier. He blinked in surprise when she mentioned her father, and he smiled.

"You must be really proud," He chuckled, his tail swishing behind him as they neared the pride lands. Pausing at the wink, the male nodded and laughed, "Well, you are doing a great job telling others about your pride! And about a story... Aren't there interesting stories of how some end up being in the Simbafutaji? I've met more than just one lion with a colorful history in my travels, although some are less... Fortunate than others."

"I am very proud of my father," Omoa beamed at the larger lion. "He's not my real father; he adopted me when I was a cub and we've never been apart since then. And then I met his mate, my mother, and they just had cubs." She couldn't hide her prideful smile at that, either. "They're all adorable; I love having little siblings."

She bounded up the side of a hill, albeit slowly, and grinned. "Right now, our pride is mostly composed of our close family members. My aunt and uncle just had a litter of their own (she had some leopard's cubs before she met her current mate) so we have a lot of cubs running around at the moment. To be honest, our story is that we used to live at another ocean pride, but then we had to leave for some reason. So we founded our own place, on the beach, that any and everyone can join."

For Omoa to be completely honest, she wanted to go back to the roguelands and bring her best friend back to the pride with her. Because then Ithemba would have a home, with Omoa, and they could always see each other. It had been too long...

"Having little siblings is like... Well, its what some refers to the whole older brother or older sister complex, I believe! Like you want to be there to protect them and look after them because they're younger than you," Jasiri'ka smiled, chuckling a little as he continued, "Of course, those are the things I've heard. I was an only child, and my parents... Well, they weren't together long enough for me to have siblings, and my mother never found someone else after than, I guess."

He looked a little sad for a moment, but quickly smiled again, "Still, it was nice to have just mother and me!"

Jasiri'ka listened to the origin of the pride, his eyes filled with curiosity, "That is interesting!" Then, looking closer at the young lioness, he couldn't help asking, "But didn't you leave anyone behind that you miss? I'm just asking out of curiosity, feel free to ignore the question if you don't feel like answering it..."

He smiled at Omoa, hoping that he didn't just sour their new friendship.

Omoa giggled. An older brother or sister complex? There was no way that she would ever not want to be a part of her siblings' lives, for however long they wanted her in them. She had a feeling that their parents had told them the truth about Omoa, and how she wasn't truly their blood sister (Maha had taken it especially well, though). Nonetheless: she loved them.

"I'm sorry you were an only child, and about your parents." Her smile softened to one of sympathy. "It is nice to spend so much time with a parent, though. I'd love to meet my real mother one day, but I have no idea where she is." Omoa chuckled lightly. "Oh well. What's in the past should stay in the past. No use in bringing up bad memories."

For his question of leaving someone behind, she paused. "Not anyone related to me," she began slowly, looking at the ground in thought. "But my best friend lives in the rogue lands with her family. We met when we were cubs, and spent every day playing together. We made little statues of each other out of mud on the day I had to leave with Father. But if I could bring anyone here with me, it would be Ithie. I miss her so much." She smiled up at Jasiri'ka. "I'm thinking about going to visit her, soon."

She kept the walking pace, up over small hills and through areas of sand and tough grass that sprouted up from the ground. Soon they would be to the pride, and her parents and aunt would wish to speak with the stranger about his intentions towards the pride. Omoa herself hoped he would join; he was such a nice lion. Kind, interesting. He would make a g good friend, to be sure.

"It sounds like the two of you were really close friends," The older lion chuckled softly, flicking his ears. He quickened his pace a little to catch up, and slowed down only when he was just beside Omoa. Walking, he glancing at her and continued, "I'm sure she'll love to see you again as well... Its always good to see an old friend again, especially after a long time of being seperated."

Omoa nodded. "We were the very best friends! Hopefully I can see her again soon, though," she repeated, mentioning her hopeful visit. "Then I can tell her all kinds of stories and what has happened. And I can bring her a gift. We live by the ocean; there are all kinds of shells there."

She giggled as he quickened his pace to match hers; she increased both. She was excited to see his reaction when they finally reached the lands. Shouldn't be long now, really. They were almost there...

"Did you have a best friend? Or do you have one?"
PostPosted: Tue Jan 06, 2009 9:12 pm

"Ah, yes... Shells by the sea are the most beautiful," Jasiri'ka nodded, the edges of his lips widened to a happy grin. Flicking his tail, he paused, a thoughtful look on his features. Then, he continued, almost excited, "I met this lioness from your pride. Her son gave her a seashell, and she actually made it into a sort of necklace so that it is easy to carry around. Maybe you can do that for your friend!"

Musing over the question the younger female posed to him, he thought about his travels and the people he had met. Then, she shook his head, "I don't think so... I've always traveled on my own, and I guess I was never in one place long enough to actually make a best friend... But who knows? Maybe after I settle down, I might find someone I can really relate to!"

Omoa blinked in surprise; he had met another of her pride? "Who?" she asked aloud. Though there were many mothers with sons that she knew of, the lioness was curious to know who else had ventured away. She giggled at the idea, though, and smiled. "That is a wonderful idea; I'll be sure to try it and see how it works. Thank you."

She nodded at his response. "Sometimes it takes longer than you would expect to find a true friend. Other times, it can happen in a second." She grinned again. "I hope you find them in our pride! We have lots of friendly lions to befriend."

And then they reached the land boundaries. She paused for a moment, turning to look at him. "Well, here we are. Ready to go meet everyone important?" she teased, one paw waiting to step onto her pride's lands.
